Finally found an airsoft version of the SA80 Bayonet. It fits my ICS L85A2 with repro Surefire flash hider and in theory I should still be able to fire with it on the rifle although I suspect it will largely live in a sheath. Now I just need to get a surplus MTP sheath for it and the black plastic component (think it's referred to as a bayonet frog?). Once I've sorted out the sheath I guess I'll finally sort out my comm's and a batch of new mag's for my L85.2 points -

265fps on a M100 Spring
Lozart reacted to James Baker for a topic
That's very kind of you. I have a few spare springs....and have now solved the problem! I put a bigger spring in the gun, that got 370 in my masada, still got 300 in the 416....so as it turns out... The issue was the ported cylinder! The stock cylinder has a port at 4/5s ( my guess). I didn't consider that to be the limit with a 275mm inner barrel...and I was wrong! Just put a full cylinder in there. 360fps now! What a roller coaster!1 point -

@James Baker I've got some old spare Rocket M115, you're welcome to grab one for free. It should put slightly over 350fps but then you can just a coil. Message me 🙂1 point

From my experience of building with 3 different G&P receivers they are OK. They are made better than most OEM receivers but are still expensive for what they are if you buy at retail and they do have their issues. As mentioned the barrel nut threads are a pain unless you use a G&P rail (However they do have some nice rails to go with their receivers). The ejection port dust covers do not close and the painted finish is average. The E&C are very nice for the money. I would say they are just as nice as the G&P receivers for less than half the cost and are a better fit for most other parts. It also comes with a lot of extras that the G&Ps don't (charging handle, mag & bolt release and fire selector). That makes it really good value vs G&P. I have this one and I really like it: https://www.begadi.com/e-c-m4-receiver-modern-schwarz.html?___store=en&___from_store=de Used with the E&C gearbox you will also get the locking bolt cover.1 point

Guarder SP110 = M120 Spring, so potential 394fps ??? 47rps ??? I could see you clipping near 27rps on 7.4v, then maybe 41rps on 11.1v - but 47 is going some, Though a beefy C LiPo will give you extra zest, The flip side is the fancy ETU's tend to skim a bit of power, (each diode nicks 0.5-0.7v, turn on/forward voltage). 30k ÷ 12.75 (ratio) will give you about 23.5rps, Squeeze a bit more out on 16awg/deans, shim well about 27rps, x 1.55 = maybe 42rps & I've smashed a piston at that speed even though it was short stroked 3 teeth ??? So 47rps is going some, perhaps questionable, given that ETU's skim some juice & motors should make a difference... A 30k motor Vs a 18k G&G there will be a difference. Also forget bells & whistles a second... Set the Titan to do basic stuff, no AB, precock, burst etc... Grab a standard RC power meter, Plug that in and run a 5sec auto burst on 7.4v, NB 7.4v not 11.1v to check amps on meter in auto, coz the way the fancy MOSFETs report stuff varies. Yes the surge from still will be 80-90 amps, But overall the draw over a 5 sec period should, be below 20, about 17 amp if done well 12:1 30k. Draw will be lower on higher TPA motor, But G&G 18k grey will struggle on 7.4v as it's ferrite. The amp draw on 7.4v will be roughly the same as 11 1v, The amps don't change, but the wattage alters on 11.1v, Watts = Voltage X Amps All you are doing is testing the amps on a meter, without risking smashing the piston at silly speed, Or excess heat being generated on a high amperage. Get the amps read from a meter on a 4-5 sec auto burst, Ensure it is below 20amps on a meter reading. Is the sector/gun short stroked ??? Coz SP110 spring is near 400fps Yes you lose a bit on a 300mm barrel, But think you are losing some FPS somewhere too, Coz the gun is losing efficiency it is working more, on the SP110 or M120 spring unless SS'd 2-3 teeth. And if running inefficiently that 47rps is dubious, Unless motor is a High Speed one, Which would explain it a bit along with heat/amps... A number of things don't quite add up to me, The slightly higher rof on a higher spring, Lots of heat & killing batteries etc... Motors not making much of a difference ??? (They should as you have a range of performance) Yeah some stuff ain't quite as it seems to me, So check the amps on a RC power meter/analyser... Seems like you have used a SHS lightened piston, so I wonder if the piston is binding quite a bit... Which would explain some things, heat, amps, some power loss... Yet this would effect the rps, which is quite high still... So yeah, some things are not quite adding up to me ???1 point -
265fps on a M100 Spring
Lozart reacted to James Baker for a topic
Thanks you for your reply, Yea I know its not apples with apples, I was just wondering if I should be trying to "fix" the air seal more before putting a bigger spring in. Barrel length and cylinder are stock - can't remember where the port is on the cylinder or even if it has one- will check next time I go in. I tested it by putting putting the nozzle on the cylinder head and ramming the piston down there with my finger over the Nozzle. I did just try it with my Masada barrel (6.05 PDI) but unfortunate the gun wont feed with that setup. the hop rubber block the bb from entering. so can't rule out that making a difference. Sorry should have said stock barrel length is 275mm1 point -

That's a really neat idea. Cheaper than my plan of buying a scorpion just for spring testing1 point -
Well, since I had a few springs lying around I finally decided to making a spring power measuring device... Using a luggage scale you hold and pull on the orange hose fitting up to the orange line (piston length). The scale holds the measurement so you can read it when it beeps. Takes a few goes to get an average reading but I compared readings of known spring strengths with a friend who uses a slightly different method and our readings do correlate. I will try to find an M10 bolt that only has threading at the top to make the pull smoother.1 point

a&k are a weird one, i've mostly worked on their lmg's but generally they have some good design features and pretty reasonable quality. but then they do some stuff really badly, like the open-bottomed gearbox or the frankly atrocious state of their hop rubbers. fair enough, if you find anything else interesting let us know if only to satiate my rubbernecking1 point -
I've just tried an M100 spring in my new rifle. (A&K LR300) and also only get 260-270 fps. I'm quite sure the piston and cylinder have no major leaks so I'm in pretty much the same situation as you. I just ordered an M110 spring and new Maple Leaf Macaron (Thanks AK2M4 😉) So we'll see what that does...1 point

Could not agree with you more. Had the Mk18 on my PTW for years and would just not go back. Now if somebody doesn't like the looks, that is fair enough but it works on the 'technical' side and handles a lot better. Both PTW and MWS now carry the rail, one has the short and one the long. HAO has worked wonders considering the price (not talking about their body kits here, which are ace but expensive. I will keep the original TM receiver on the MWS for a little while yet. The PTW has a HAO upper and lower now)1 point -

yeah, it's a tricky one though i have a habit of mistrusting pre-production samples these days. the rc thing is an interesting litmus test, never ran them back in the day (was always an internal combustion guy) but the performance even back then was undeniable. like i say the main issue is nobody drives an rc the way we'd run airsoft guns, and i very much am in the semi-spam camp rather than using auto (just feels better having direct control on exactly how many rounds i'm sending downrange) so stop-start is the hell my guns have to put up with1 point -

Yeah, i'm not a big expert on brushless, but from a mechanical sense it should be even more resilient. Electrically i'm guessing the controller will either ignore ab from the mosfet, or maybe take the signal and translate to its own braking. I am kinda tempted, have a new build in the works. Might be a tad spicy for my original dsg plans though.1 point -
Budget and Premium Motor Recommendations
ak2m4 reacted to Adolf Hamster for a topic
yeah, the thing i'd probably be most concerned with is how well they work with AB, i know it's a motor killer generally but i'd be more worried about the electronics than the actual motor itself. iirc the electric rc stuff uses motor braking although their control setup is a bit different (with the controller being pretty big compared to the warhead) and needless to say they aren't getting the same stop/start usage an airsoft gun would use.1 point -
@Adolf Hamster from my tests the bottom line seemed to be, lower power consumption, lower heat, better longevity, if the esc controller goes pop it can be replaced with a simple solder job. No brushes so no carbon dust build up etc. Here's some stats from a test I did with the Warhead Ultra vs a GP 14TPA GP 14TPA Motor with 7.4v (fully charged) RPS = 18 Full Auto Amp Draw = 25 Motor external temp after 2000 cycles = 50 (centigrade) Warhead Ultra Motor with 7.4v (fully charged) RPS = 27 Full Auto Amp Draw = 20 Motor external temp after 2000 cycles = 35 (centigrade) The figures are pretty cool, the Warhead motor is 30% faster, draws 20% less amps and 30% cooler. Although the motors aren't like for like it does give an idea.1 point

i must confess to being curious about those, brushless was pretty well established in the rc world by the time i started airsoft but given in this hobby folk are still using nimh it doesn't surprise me it's taken this long for brushless to arrive.1 point -
If money is no barrier then one of the new Warhead brushless, fantastic motors. On the budget end SHS high torque is pretty much the most popular, quite reliable. Also the new fan-assisted XT motors seem to be performing well1 point

Slide the plate down and it allows the valve to close. Sounds like it needs a good service. Using green you may break the slide. If you want something that's reliable or to skirmish I'd not use that. A collector may appreciate it.1 point

Right lets run the numbers on those. 1.45Ah / 35A is 2 minutes 29 seconds of runtime (0.04hours). (24C) 1.45Ah/ 45A is 1 minute 56 seconds of runtime (0.03hours). (31C) 1.45Ah/ 95A is 54 seconds of runtime. (65.5C) Your batteries are rated for: 1.45 x 20 = 29 amps continuous. 1.45 x 40 = 58 amps peak. You are drawing double your peak amperage and over your continuous amperage in all instances. I'd be very surprised if those batteries are even holding the correct charge any more the chemicals are probably well on the way to a catastrophic breakdown. I'm not surprised they only give you 1 mag. I am surprised you don't get a nasty fireball at the end of that. Increasing C multiplier rating isn't enough. You need to increase C multiplier and capacity. Assuming you can find a 25/50 3s 11.1 you are going to need at least: 95/50 = 1.9Ah (1900mAh) Add in a tolerance for the overheads and your looking at perhaps a 2.2Ah (2200mAh) capacity. @2.2Ah: 2.2/35 is 3 minute 46 seconds. (16C) 2.2/45 is 2 minutes 56 seconds. (20C) 2.2/95 is 1 minute 23 seconds. (43C) So look for something along these lines. 11.1 25/50C 2200mAh. Assuming 11 seconds of shooting per mag (500/45). You should have enough juice for at least 7 mags, potentially 20 mags per battery ( 3,500 to 10,000 bb's).1 point

Hey, I just wanted to report that I managed to get the SAA mags leak free by merging the two halfs with steel araldite. The o ring was removed, contact surfaces roughened and the rod removed. The side body screw which holds the rod was set in place with araldite. Whereas the bottom threads were blocked with a cross threaded screw + araldite. All contact surfaces were oil free and treated with spirits before the araldite treatment. The mag in question was filled with gas sometime in November 2020 and has had no leaks since. A bit of a job to get it done but nevertheless, might be worth the effort or a fitting lockdown activity to some.1 point -

This is a simple mod to do. 1. Get a soldering iron 2. Unscrew the Marui-stock connectors switch 3. Either snip the wires or de-solder them. 4. Solder deans connectors. Make sure you get the positive and negative correct. 5. Slide the PTS stock back on and feed the connector through. 6. Job done.1 point

I felt the same until I tried it. It feels very skinny and unobtrusive in the hand, it weighs less, and it seems to me to be ergonomically superior. I struggle to use the old RIS style now, it just feels like I'm tring to manipulate the gun whilst its attached to a clunky cheese grater. Whilst the mk18 had certain real steel advantages due to heat dissipation, these are not relevant in airsoft. I really like Magpul as an innovative modern business, and their R&D on M Lok was superb. I remember getting one of the early MOE handguards for my PTW about 10 years ago and liking it's 'high speed, low drag' ergonomics, and what Geissele have done with that concept is refine it further. HAO have done an excellent job again at making it affordable for airsoft. Firm handshakes all round.1 point -

Missing Links in Airsoft?
FreeFrag.UK reacted to Adolf Hamster for a topic
tbh it's a wonder there's as much variety as there is in airsoft, but there are plenty of guns that aren't catered to. the bren is a good example (although afaik there is a zb26 out there) and the sks. the makarov at least has a decent offering in the WE version, doesn't like the cold but with a little tweaking it's a very passable gat as a holster-filler. not just guns either, optics, especially russian ones (that aren't a PSO) are quite poorly covered with only a couple of decent clones for the likes of the PK-A or Kobra. fortunately this is balanced by the real ones being both available and not insanely expensive as RS optics go. i think the problem is it's just so easy to do AR variants, mill out a worn-out mould to a chunkier style, change the handguard/stock and bam you have a "new" gun (psst, it's still an AR....) also how has nobody done a G11? that must surely be one of the easiest wacky aeg's you could make.....1 point -

i dunno, no matter how much you push the envelope it'll still be stationary...... can't figure out spoiler tags so here's another essay for everyone to scroll past and not read: whilst we are all well aware of the events of Cinderella, her encounter with the fairy godmother and marrying a handsome prince. what is not well known is after the somewhat unconventional events of her youth her life was mostly unremarkable, serving as the roles of attentive wife to her husband who by dint of being a second child never had the chance to take up the crown. however happily ever after only lasts so long and eventually the prince died, a peaceful death but a tragedy nonetheless leaving Cinderella a widow whose common upbringing saw her shipped off out of the royal court to live the rest of her days in quiet solitude. it is here one day, we find Cinderella, time having taken its toll, an old woman sitting in her rocking chair on the porch of a little cottage, quietly knitting while a cat she'd taken to calling bob rested contently on the windowsill. as she's sitting there, her mind idly wondering, she finds herself thinking about time, and how after life seemed to be so much shorter these days. suddenly there's a gentle tinkling noise, subtle, but a noise that nonetheless cut through the silence like a razor and went straight into her mind. there it swooshed it's way through memories almost forgotten to the mists of time until, there. that was it. she looks up "it's been a long time" she says, as if greeting an old friend. "indeed my child it has" replies the fairy godmother "why have you come?" asks Cinderalla calmly. "you have lived a long and exemplary life" says the godmother "your charitable works and your political campaigns to aid those in need have been a shining beacon of hope for the poor of this land. and yet the king has so callously cast you out for fear of some imagined shame it might bring to his house" "the king has his ways, but he is not so bad" replies Cinderalla "that is as may be, but by way of recompense, i would once again like to offer you 3 wishes. is there anything your heart still yearns for?" Cinderella sits there quitely, pondering this opportunity, the wisdom of age tempering the youthful memories seeing the godmother again had stirred. eventually she speaks "the king is not so bad, and my life here is quiet and peaceful, but with time the maintenance of this place has become too much for me and it would be so very handy to pay some local men from the village to fix it up again" "certainly my dear" says the fairy godmother, and with a flick of her arm and a somewhat underwhelming "poof", the world seemed unchanged. silence decended, but not normal silence, this silence was louder than usual because a noise that had been there before was now gone- the creaking of the rocking chair had ceased for it was no longer made of wood, but solid gold. "what is your second wish?" asks the fairy godmother again cinderella ponders getting to her feat and pacing slowly around the room. "you know, i can't remember a time now when there wasn't some creaking in my bones, fog in my sight or pain in my joints. i'd like to feel the energy of youth again, if only for a day" again the subtle flick of the wand, only this time the magic is so much more dramatic as a swirling fog envelops Cinderella hiding her from view. when the fog clears cinderella is once again young, her mind unchanged yet she stood the picture of radiant beauty and youth she had been the last time she crossed paths with the fairy godmother. "and your third wish?" asks the fairy godmother once again the response is delayed, but this time it is not caused by careful contemplation. the funny thing about minds is how like water fills a glass and takes it shape so too does thought fill a body. Cinderella, remembering a long life well lived but with feelings long since forgotten now stirring points to the cat and says "this stray has been my faithful companion for many years, i love him like i once loved my dear prince charming, could you transform him into a kind and handsome young man like you once did with those mice?" "of course" says the fairy godmother the cat, sensing attention half-opens an eye to survey the room. his gaze somewhat distracted when once again the flick of the want, the swoosh of fog, and a gentle "poof" as the fairy godmother dissappears. before the fog even clears clears the cat, now a grown man naked as the day he was born, emerges sweeping cinderella up into his arms with a grace that would ordinarily take years of ballet training to acheive. he stares deep into Cinderella's eyes and leans down as if to kiss her, but instead he gently whispers: "i bet now you're wishing you hadn't had me neutered"1 point -

So this butcher is in his shop working away when a dog, carrying a basket casually walks in and jumps up onto the counter. The butcher goes to shoo him away but before he can the dog points with his paw into the basket at a list for some meat. This gets the butchers attention, so he picks up the list and reads off the items which are followed by a note that reads ‘please can you put all this in the basket, the right money is in a pouch on the dogs collar’. Right on cue the dog lifts his head and points at a small pouch which as it turns out has the right money in it. Once all the bits were in the basket the dog nods his thanks and leaves with the basket in his mouth again. The butcher is stunned. If I could have a dog like that he thinks, it could do my deliveries, even perform on the stage! So he shuts up shop and follows the creature, during which time he sees him visit several other shops, have a pint at the pub and even use a zebra crossing, wow, thinks the butcher, this dog is something else! Then finally the dog arrives at a house, he opens the front gate and lets himself in with his paws and goes up to the front door and knocks waiting to be let in. Suddenly though the door flies open and a man appears, giving the dog a massive bollocking, calling him useless and dumb, the butcher, confused at this, runs up to them and exclaims ‘why are you bollocking this dog? The things I’ve seen him do, he’s amazing!’ ‘Amazing? fuck off!’ Laughs the man, ‘This is the third time he’s forgotten his keys this week!’1 point
