So, I have a small pistol torch / laser combo that seems noticeably brighter than my larger torches even though it has a smaller collimator / reflector. It takes 2 x 16340 / RCR123A cells side-by-side, and I had a crazy thought: what if it's actually running the same LED chip as every other torch that takes a single 3.7V 18650, but driving it at 7.4V, and damn the consequences? And further, are 16340 cells close enough to half the length of a single 18650 that you can just drop two of them into an 18650 torch in series and over-drive it at double voltage? Well, it turns out that you can, that it's super, duper bright, that you really shouldn't look into it to see how bright, and that I hope to regian my vissoin by moarning.3 points

G&G CM16 Raider Worthwhile Upgrades?
SSPKali and one other reacted to Speedbird_666 for a topic
I don't normally recommend 'upgrades', but for the v1.0 Raider I would say inner barrel (stock one is like compressed tinfoil) and a Hi-Torque motor. Nothing else. Not a single penny more unless the stock hop rubber is worn. Then replace that. Otherwise leave it. Then: Use it. Abuse it. Break it. Bin it. I tend to think of the 'old skool' Combat Machines as the Bic Biros of the airsoft world. Bloody handy when they are working good, but not worth trying to fix up when they shit themselves. You will see a slight increase in accuracy with the barrel. The Hi-Torque will largely mitigate the issues with semi-auto lockup (what Fatboy is alluding to) and will give semi auto good trigger response even with lower voltage batteries. And for the front sight....😜:2 points -
I would recommend going rental and having an AEG first time round. Sniping is an aquired taste when it comes to using it at an airsoft field combined with the minimum engagement rules, you might not get the full feel of airsoft by going sniper first time round and could find it "boring" or too slow. If you like the look of it from youtube/fb videos, just remember it takes those guys a whole day / weekend to get enough "hit" footage to fit a video a few mins long.2 points

Hi mate, welcome to the forum. 25 is still classed as "young" in this hobby, so you'll be fine (I started when I was 33). Where in the Midlands are you based? I would have a read in this forum category, taking note of the pinned topics that will help you get a feel of what to expect from the community and the hobby in general. General concensus is to go Rental first and see if the hobby is for your liking before spending money on kit. Take a look at @GAMBLE's channel, tailored more for the beginners if you perfer watching videos: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCL-V_yVApaCpm096XBAQE1A/videos2 points

Hello all, So I'm looking to get into Airsoft (I'm 25 is that too old??) I'm new to the west midlands so was looking for a place around here, any friendly faces about who can introduce me to the world of Airsoft? Not to go too deep into my background but I have proficiency in handling and firing weapons and tactical movements.1 point

👍 Weather dependant. T-shirt or long sleeve, obviously less bright colours. Baggy helps reduce impacts. Cargo pants or something with lots of (closeable) pockets. Again, baggy for movement. Take a bottle of water and some snack bars for energy.1 point

I used to have air rifles too, BSA Meteor and Jackal Hi-Power. (No hunting) I'm not advocating for any change in legislation but I do find it strange that there are very few requirements (just age) for purchasing an air rifle as opposed to an airsoft rifle even though the air rifle is FAR more dangerous.1 point

Except it doesn't meet the forum rules for selling, something we're all expected to abide by. Thing is, these are sought after, of that there's no doubt, but expecting people to potentially get in to a bidding war over it, that's not how it's done here, nor is it that ethical when it's all done behind closed doors so to speak. Edit: since my posting I see the seller has posted a price 👍1 point

Tackle reacted to Stratton Oakmont for a topic
It’s the ‘sensible offers’ that gets me. the poster wants the most money he can get/ fair enough, who doesn’t. if however you stipulated that you have a sensible offer in mind then that’s the price you are willing to accept so factor in some haggling value and just sell it. (Or maybe it’s to appeal to the scratch card lottery buyers and cash in on their gambling addiction buy introducing a semi competitive element.)1 point -
Firstly welcome, I’ll suggest what others will suggest, take it for a game first, see how you get on. (If you’re anything like I was when I started you’ll nah I wanna spend money on upgrades) haha but seriously go get a game or two under your belt, heavy(er) bb’s and you should be fine.1 point

Is it new? How does it shoot? Probably not worth 'upgrading' internally until something breaks or you get another gun so its not a big deal if tinkering messes it up.1 point

If I were unethical, I'd book profits to my sole trader account, and sink expenses into the limited company with the intention of folding it (again). I'm sure that doesn't describe anyone being discussed here though.1 point

I picked up an AKS74N Essential recently and had my first game with it on Saturday, absolutely no complaints, great bit of kit. A friend has an older (and a bit more "loved") CM.042 full metal AK and I will say that the E&L feels significantly sturdier. However they both chuck bb's out of the barrel without any issues and probably have similar quality internals with comparable longevity. A side note, I think LCT do 7.62 AKMs with the "N" rail if that's what you are after.1 point

Seeking opinions on the various "spitfire" tracer units available
Rogerborg reacted to Enid_Puceflange for a topic
I have the version that Amazon is showing (bought it from eBay) I also think these are the very same item , just packaged differently the only thing I don’t like is the inability to have just the muzzle flash on its own. I run mine on my gbbr and like the flames from the muzzle effect, though you cannot switch off the tracer function. Reasonably well made piece of kit, which I anticipate it getting rattled to death and failing using it on my Ghk. Would like a better style to it, making it look more like a muzzle break than a small suppressor my mate shooting my ghk for the first time, and sweary 😂1 point -

Inconsistent hop
Pewpewpetie reacted to Rogerborg for a topic
Hmm, that is curious, you've covered most things that I'd have suggested: energy consistency, hop unit, and hop rubber. Airsoft gnus aren't that complicated, it's just puff, spin and point. Is the energy really consistently consistent? Prowin, meh, but if that's a ZCI rotary hop, I wouldn't expect issues with it. If puff and spin are consistent, the only thing that leaves is point, i.e. the barrel. Given what you've already done, I'd assume you've cleaned the barrel as well and had a look down it for obvious imperfections? You could sling in one from your MP5 or AK and see if it's more consistent (even at a different energy), or ZCI or AOLS are both decent choices for not much money.1 point -

In the interests of transparency, BigShow messaged me to have this thread removed. I declined as it is within your rights as members of an open forum to air your grievances and recommendations of retailers freely. After looking, it turns out the email address used for BigShow is Registered to an "ignite tactical" which seemed a little suspicious in how similarly named it was to the company he's defending. Sure enough, they appear to be sister companies: I'm seeing double here! This takes me back to the time when the dude from Cornwall was having a conversation with a secondary account that he also controlled to try and promote his airbrush painting company 😅1 point

G&P RIS Rail and G&P scope mount fit fine. A saddle bag 7.4v Lipo can be fitted in the front RIS however I might need to shorten the wires slightly for it to look a bit better. *edit - A suystema TW5 full stock will fit with a bit of dremeling or sanding.1 point -

Low tech solution here - dual pane glasses from Pyramex I-force slim. Using them with FogStop they were perfect EXCEPT when you pelt it to the 4th floor of C wing and then stand in the corridor defending “Dave” (UCAP VENDATTA players will know!) when I started to fog up in the left lens only (my shooting eye and the only one I wear a contact lens in…weird!) I then took a dremel to the outer gasket frame part (having removed it from the main glasses body) and opened up the scalloped areas to allow more air flow. Still can’t fit a BB through the gap and none should be coming directly UP or DOWN anyway! Result is now that I do get a tiny strip of fog at the top of the lens, probably because the baseball cap slows the airflow but the main part of the lens stays clear. Pics below show one side modified vs the standard vent size1 point

Collecting for quite a while now, still happy as a child, when I get my hands on something rare - in this case, the happyness is accompanied by something like awe, as it doesn't get much rarer than this Tanaka Colt SAA Casyopea (which already is rare as hell in and of itself, as these were banned in Japan together with their Casyopea counterpart, the S&W M500) with a Prime CNC Brass Kit (possibly the only brass kit for Casyopea in existence, either a mod of a Pegasus brass kit, or Prime has begun to build one of these, but stopped when the Casyopeas were banned in Japan). The loading breach is black, as are the hammer and the trigger. Might be, that Prime stopped production midway... or maybe a modder lost interest to go full monty... So this might be a real one-off, in this configuration possibly the only one of its kind. Build quality is extremely high, of course, and it has a very nice, authentic weight of 1.030g. The Casyopea shells are a lot of fun. Really pretty enthusiastic about this one 😃1 point

Seeking Custom RIF Painter

Painting a RIF with the 'dragged through shit just got back from the sandbox' look is hardly a dark art . Plenty of tutorials on the Tube of You and you can get camo spray cheap enough from Halfords. Seeing as I had five minutes spare: Xtreme Tactical Ltd was incorporated on 19th February 2020, George is a Director. Prior to that he was a Director of Quantum Tactical UK Ltd (formerly Rifle Optics UK Ltd) between April 2017 and September 2018 and then again from November 2019 until it went into liquidation on 4th March 2020 with debts of £55,514.36 (£23,943.55 to Lloyds and the rest to Paypal). In the period between the two directorships the company was run by Paul, with the same surname as the aforementioned George. There was also a brief flirtation with Extreme Electronics Ltd but they must've decided against that as the company was struck off the register. All the above has been taken from official submissions to companies house and are available bere: https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/officers/Hz_Oz6Jv_dxKyCzBIxHPKEbrNMk/appointments1 point

THE TM MWS thread
Hypokondrikern reacted to ajumma for a topic
I’ve been testing the G&P 46rd PMAGs for a few days now and thought I’d give a quick write up on here. I got a chance to use them all day in CQB so I feel confident in their capabilities in the short term. First impression: “boy this thing sure is long”. The magazine locks positively into the MTR16 lower, however it does not fall freely every time and likely needs wearing in. I’m able to load 46 rounds consistently using an Odin and the Airsoft Tailoring MWS adapter, however it is a little more finicky than the stanags and does not load as easily. I’ll need to pre-emptively pick up a rebuild kit for my Odin just in case… I loaded them up with a 12-15 second fill of Ultrair green gas but didn’t bother weighing them since I don’t carry a scale around with me. I was easily able to rattle off the full 46 rounds at 20°C ambient temps in semi only, which is no huge feat but is a minimum requirement for me since I primarily play semi-only CQB. My CQB games tend to be fairly short form, lasting roughly 15-30 minutes, and I honestly found myself struggling to get through even two of these 46rd mags in one game. The main question people ask seems to be if having a long ass magazine causes any issues in game, and I can say that for my use case, which is really tight CQB with obstacles everywhere, it did not feel any different to the stanags. The only time I noticed the extra length was when putting them into my dump pouch as they would nearly protrude from the top. As far as I am concerned, I am more than happy to accept this in return for a 30% increase in round capacity. So for now, I can recommend these if you can get over the look. Once I’ve had more time with them, I’ll be able to vouch for their longevity too I’m sure.1 point -

My Action Army T11. Upgraded with Springer Custom Works, Action Army Hop chamber, MAPLE Leaf barrel, twisted cylinder and a Hawke Scope1 point -
Yes did build up a SD6. Finished it last night came out lovely. Wasn't too hard to build if you can get original ICS parts and have access to a lathe to build an adapter. Longer barrel and new spring bumped my FPS up too 340 so looking forward to using it tomorrow for its first outing. Also fitted my magpul guard and gemtech QD suppressor from my other ngrs mp5 I built myself to see what fitted and they went straight on. I have a real steel sliding stock that I wanna try out but I think only the rails of the stock will fit with some milling so I might stick with the original as it's way more solid than any sliding stock on Rif.1 point

Rhetorical question of course - “where do I get it serviced?” You get it serviced through the specialist supplier that you bought it from, possibly as part of the maintenance contract along with the initial purchase …… unless you bought it from a generic Asian exporter. In the olden days most goods were sold with the expectation of support, nowadays in retail most goods are throwaway - you might get sold the extended warranty but often the fashion or technology changes and you replace it before the warranty runs out. If you do buy a warranty then you replace it the day after the warranty runs out when it breaks This wears away at all the tech support there used to be in every town. Now businesses rely on specialist businesses giving the support they will need when they need it. There might be only one company - even one person, who can do the support in that area of the country1 point
-
The question I'd ask is, can you take a compressor to and run it at site? Probably not. A 48Ci steely like most of us buy needs to be topped up several times throughout the day. You would be far better off spending the same money on a decent air rifle type cylinder and then paying £5 every 3-4 games to get it filled by someone with a multi thousand pounds compressor than trying to jerry rig a noisy and dangerous unit at site.1 point

Thanks, you just gave me another reason to not bother with hpa👍 Never realised it can get that "technical" just to get a good set-up1 point

When I did airsoft in Spain about 12 years ago, there was no such thing as an official site (at least not on the Costa del Sol). It was just a bunch of people who showed up to an area and played BB wars, as there were LOADS of abandoned urbanisations on the Costa del Sol, because they built them all without planning permission as holiday homes and stuff, but then had to stop when the authorities realised it was an illegal construction. Nobody was about to pay to demolish them, so they turned into our unofficial airsoft sites. There were a few "events" as such, I remember going to one up in the mountains near Monda and Ojen, but they were few and far between. Like, once a year or something. That said, there was a small urbanisation we played on near Mijas, but I believe it was demolished after someone slipped and fell down the stairs, cracking their head open and had to be rushed to hospital. That was the main "site" we all went to (even if I thought the one in Estepona was way better!). Have a lot of good memories from there, it was like half woodland, half urban and it was really cool. There were some dark corridors on the lower levels, multi-level firefights and even a really dark and a cramped tunnel that nobody ever used (because it was really hard to actually move in) apart from about 5 of us which could take you behind the enemy lines. Here are some low resolution photos I've dug up (hey, 1024x768 was the 1080p of 2008!)1 point

How to increase the range of a Nuprol Delta Recon
Rogerborg reacted to ImTriggerHappy for a topic
Best way to increase range on this gun is to improve your shoulder muscles then you could get at least 15mtrs further away from the skip before throwing.1 point -
First clean your barrel/bucking then use a heavier weight bb, say 0.25 upto a max of 0.28-0.3's (they get a lot more expensive, and the benifits are minimal on 350fps) then an upgrade your hop rubber (I personally like g&g green or a tm rubber) then look into hop units/barrels etc etc why this order ... simplicity and cheapness1 point
