  1. So… The night before we were due to leave for Namsoft I suddenly find myself voiceless and shivering, running a temperature. A good night’s sleep and I am just fit enough to drive by nearly midnight the following day. Not the best of starts, but there we go. The van was packed, the tickets bought and the Covid test passed A-OK. Set up camp at about 2:30am as quietly as possible after nearly three hour drive. Decent safety brief; comprehensive despite almost every player being something of an old hand at the game. For the few that were new, nothing was omitted or rushed. Game started with clear objectives and well defined fire teams to carry them out. The basic premise of the game is the film Southern Comfort. This was about a group of national guardsmen on a training exercise in the Louisiana swamps that fall foul of a group of Cajun’s who believe that they have been fired upon. Good film, great theme for a game. The action started with some LARPY shit, role playing as F.B.I., local Sheriffs, Cajuns and Guardsman. Plenty of banter and an increasingly tense atmosphere as everyone anticipates the start of the fighting. Someone slots a sheriff and a several way firefight starts. The various groups pull out and regroup to decide how to achieve their objectives in a newly hostile environment. Playing as a Cajun, I accompany the small four man group to retrieve an ammo crate, having first to find the cash box to have the necessary funds. This goes surprisingly easy, as we find the sheriffs have arrested a fellow Cajun, and due to the presence of the hated ‘Feds, we surround them and demand his release. This achieved, he reveals that he is our contact as we lead him away. A good start. Crates retrieved, we proceed to hunt the US troops. Eversley Alpha is one hell of a site. There is a pile of rhododendrons, dense marsh and thick cover. With only about 35 players, we restricted the action down to easily identified areas and soon had the US in sight. They were oblivious to our presence, which is just how it should be. A short and murderous firefight followed, with excellent sportspersonship. I say sportsperson as that rare beast, the airsoft female was present in some numbers (OK about four, but it’s a start.) The swamp dwelling set victorious we carried on hunting the sheriffs in order to attack the F.B.I. contingent that accompanied them. All great fun. At some point I reverted to true character and lone wolfed for the rest of the weekend. I harassed and harried the opposition at every opportunity, sniping with the M14. The ML hop set up lofts .3s with ease, whilst over hopping .28s madly. I get some great shots at range, bopping GIs through sanger observation slits and picking off squads at long range. At some point I end up stalking at close range, and keep a whole section pinned down by firing from some rhododendrons at fifteen yards range. I feel guilty when one chap walks over, thinking that he has spotted me at range, and I shoot him at about two feet. One skinned knuckle and an apology at endex followed. Not that said chap was aggrieved. Admiration for crafty concealment far outshone the odd flesh wound. I lost the exact set up after this and concentrated on harrying any opposition that I saw. An attack of the enemy base I learned of via my radio; and this was joined with enthusiasm. Following on from my highly successful solo escapades, this was bound to end in disaster and I was captured. The closeness of the enemy’s respawn allowed them to swarm us before we could change position. Not being fools, this was exploited in full by the enemy. The game progressed in similar fashion for hours, neither of the sides having a complete upper hand all day. The site was amazing as ever. The gameplay is excellent. The scenario is brilliant and easily learned. The cherry on the cake as it were, came at the close of the day. Number one son had bought his girlfriend, assuming that the usual round of shopping and cafes would be indulged in as the players played. Unfortunately, no other female company arrived, and so as cash free and in totally unexpected twist, a hostage appeared. By the end of the weekend we had one really excited young lady, hell bent on playing air soft at the earliest opportunity. That to me is a result. Good on the organiser for giving a second (personal) detailed safety brief, and for changing the storyline so that everybody had a good game. Sunday dawned far too early, the night centring on Cuban cigars and single malts. I dragged a reluctant arse out of bed and lone wolfed the US soldiers again. I worked my way into the middle of the enemy position and let fly with the M14, many players moaning at ‘friendly fire.’ Ho, ho, ho. Overall, given the price, plus cost of diesel, this was not cheap. However, you only live once, and the fun factor was off the scale. I still feel ultra shit re: congested chest, lack of energy, lack of strength, BUT the buzz from the game has stayed for hours later. The social and in game play was simply spot on and I will attend next year, yet again. If anyone fancies a spot of redneck carnage and or Vietnam style airsoft action, send me a PM.

  2. Went to UCAP ‘Vendetta’ today , and a bloody good day it was ! was myself , my ‘brother from another mother’ , both my sons AND as a real bonus an airsoft best bud I haven’t seen in over 18mths due to the plague just so happened to be there today as well which certainly made me smile . Combat south where there with a trailer full of ‘shiny things’ , it’s a nice change to see lots of quality products like you find in a proper shop and not the tat you generally find in a site shop ? think there was 60’ish players there so perfect numbers for the site , you had room to move around without tripping over each other and hardly any stalemates due to there being too many players , was single shot all day(favourite of mine)and on the whole game play was excellent and just an all around great experience of the sport which has definitely help me regain a positive attitude towards it . So roll onto next game day .👍

Which is why all sites should load an empty magazine (belonging to the player) with the site's own 0.2g BBs at chrono.

When a site states a limit they are usually referring to the muzzle velocity as tested with a 0.2g BB. There will now follow a torrent of posts telling you that they should be using Joules.

  6. Yesterday we decided to switch things up a little bit: We set up a tournament-like day, so each game had an objective to accomplish (on top of eliminating the defenders), time was set at 10 minutes per game which made things incredibly difficult, so hard that out of 9 games played in this "mode", we only managed to secure the objective once Nonetheless it was a super fun day, hit calling wasn't the best but it's the usual suspects so we already know how to deal with them (aim for da face, KM style) and the kids enjoyed it so much As far as kit goes, I ran my standard "oh shit I forgot to pack the bag" kit, which is my pentagon flatpack clone + rigged 1 point sling, King Arms PDW with drum mag, random camo I found (this time a-tacs fg bottoms and m81 top), many light, much wow.

Yeah, generally if a site lists fps as the unit of measurement for guns, it's on a 0.2g BB. Also they should be using joules

when a site quotes a limit as "fps" they don't mean raw velocity, they mean velocity (in feet per second) using a 0.2g bb. this is a statement of kinetic energy, but instead of using joules it's using a convoluted unit that mixes metric and imperial and sounds like it's just a velocity measurement to really confuse people. kinda the same way you fill your car with 50 litres of petrol but measure the fuel economy in miles per gallon. we just have to be awkward in this country. so in the case of a 400"fps" limit, 400fps on 0.2g = 1.49J of energy, a 0.4g bb fired with 1.49J of energy will be travelling roughly 282fps fortunately, there are calculators available to help out: https://www.zerooneairsoft.com/airsoft_fps_calculator just because you've said that i reckon we should use obol-barleycorns per microjiffy and yes, apparently the jiffy is actually a measurement of time equal to 1/65,536 of a second.....

I'm guessing you saw it here: http://www.nashvilleairsoft.com/custom-gun-gallery/? It's a custom job. AR lower, what looks like a heavily modified SCAR upper and an LR300 stock. Ignore me It's what he said.

  13. Most of the proper Airsoft sites I’ve ever been too(not a bit of woodland used now and again but an established business type site) are usually pretty good at being mobility restricted accessible , you have to remember these businesses are generally targeting joe public who on the whole aren’t fit by any stretch of the imagination so the sites will probably not be that large a venue plus your dealing with customers who’s idea of ‘challenging terrain’ is a muddy music festival or having to park in an unpaved field ! so again there’s usually no that much difficult terrain you need to traverse . I have a very good mate who’s chronically ill and has very poor mobility(even uses a stick in game) and he usually plays by moving around the local area of our respawn/start point with a compact gun (ARP9 , AK74su , etc)that’s got a box mag fitted and sort of ‘guarding’ it for the team . Plus if it’s a medic game he’s always a medic which the rest of the team know so when you recover a ‘wounded’ team member if there’s no medics in that area you always know you can take them too him to get ‘Medic’ed’ back in to the game . I've asked him in the past if he ever gets board playing this way as he spends a fair bit of time with just one or two other players around the respawn area and he said no because if he’s feeling up to it he just moves forward getting nearer to the action but if not just by the nature of the game you always have players from both teams wandering around the site so he frequently has his own ‘little battle’ raging in ‘the background’ that the rest of the team are totally oblivious to this as where all on the main objective ! 😂 So I’d say physical ability shouldn’t have any real affect on your ability to play the game .👍

  16. Just got home from another cracking day at Worthing. Took the VSR with its MED to make sure I gave my new sidearms a good pacing and ended up using the MP7 all day, so the HK45 is still untested. The TM MP7 on a lipo is a total beast. Set the hop for .25s on the 45m target and it was hitting it every time, with a great rate of fire and snappy trigger response. Couldn't ask for more from what is essentially a large AEP. Had it in a thigh holster that didn't get in the way, didn't wiggle about and held it nice and secure. Massively happy with that purchase! Had a game where I took a position on a flank. Every time the other team pushed I took them out if there were only 1 or 2 of them, which happened a few times, and when the guy I was with got hit and the enemy team moved past us (after one said "you are dead, right?"), I crawled up to him, dragged him down and mediced him back in, which amused me since he then started shooting them in the back to their surprise. However sometimes they sent large waves of 10 players through and I just held position and stayed still. Wasn't in my full ghillie, just my leafy hood and US woodland camo, and a wave of them moved about 2m in front of me without spotting me. One took cover about a metre to my right, but didn't see me tucked in and then didn't look back. Trigger discipline allowed me to stay alive and then radio in to my friend who was on base defense so he would get some others and just take out the attacking wave. My heart was beating so fast as I watched them all move past my position against the tree in the ditch with my MP7 in hand. This is why I play the sniper role. Not for the long range shots. It's moments like this that make it special. Rest of the day was a lot of concealed overwatch picking people off at long ranges. Leaves are starting to fall from the trees, so sight lines are starting to open up at Worthing.

  17. Don't trust him. It will likely kill you. That's if your lipo doesn't take you out first.

  18. People who tell you to worry about bb bits through mesh are in the same league as the ones who think lipos explode like grenades left right and centre. I've seen someone get a tiny, slightly irritating bit in their eye once.. and that's it. This is even less of a concern if you wear glasses under the mesh, those tiny pieces have cock all energy left if a shot does break on the mask.

  20. E&Ls are a better OOTB gun, but if you plan on ditching most the guts then there is no negative when compared to an LCT. Externals (real steel or airsoft) are also much easier to install professionally on the LCTs The best bit for me about an E&L is the little mag plate in the receiver - makes reloads that bit easier. Agreed standard mags are not the greatest but can be improved with a little love, NPOs are worth every penny if you’re a serious player. Yes F2000 / P90 / AUG are the quietest but any AEGs can be built to have a very low sound signature. Getting rid of the AEG whine / screech / crack / report. Short cycle duration Gear choice Volume matching Motor choice Suppressor All add up to a very hard to ‘find’ gun in the field. Definitely much easier to achieve a quiet AEG with a V3 gearbox too as the motor is so accurately fixed in position. Regarding sight mounts I find Red dots / Holo sights are best just behind the rear sight, this type gives the lowest height https://m.aliexpress.com/item/32419213457.html?trace=wwwdetail2mobilesitedetail

  25. unless you're going hpa it's not really going to help too much, you're still going to have a ton of gearbox noise to deal with. there are "silent" aeg builds but often they're reserved for specific patterns that already lend themselves to quietness, eg something like an f2000 with the gearbox cradled in your arm and that chunky noise absorbing polymer body to dull the gearbox noise, or something with enough room to pack foam in round the box.

  31. Let me share with you my personal experience. I use mesh mask for couple of years now and I had no issues. There where few drawbacks like reflections from the sun making it more difficult to see outside but not a problem indoor. They during pandemic we played one game where we had to wear masks underneath and my glasses were steaming non stop. so I took of my glasses and play the round only with mesh mask. CQB site, sneaking on the dark staircase... To make long story short I got shot at close range in my face (not the first time and not the last) but this time unfortunately the other player or used low quality bb's or I was unlucky as the BB cracked on impact and few shards did hit my eye. Painful as hell. And I call myself lucky as it I have no permanent damage but this experience made me much more aware of risks. Again if you wear glasses (as I do) then mesh mask is more than ok as long as you have this secondary protection level p.s. couple of years ago I remember that one member of this forum has shared a pic of him in A&E with the BB shard stuck in his eyeball from similar accident I had. I believe he was ok afterward.

  33. as long as the can is lined up properly and the bb isn't hitting anything on the way out then it's not really an issue. if it's not lined up and the bb clips part of the can on the way out then it'll properly ruin accuracy, but that will be very obvious. it's relatively common for hpa's to run suppressors without inner barrels because you do get an actual noise reduction, and i never noticed a lack of performance from doing it. plus you can put a tracer unit inside
    1 point
  34. depends on the suppressor, some have an inner tube that will allow the bb to exit without too much trouble, some have nothing and the bb can catch the endcap and be deflected other are foam filled and can deflect the bb with loss of power can all depend on the initial accuracy of the gun and movement etc

  35. @SBoardley - thank you for the image and name of the mount! That's a pretty neat mounting system, not sure how it would work with the standard black polymer type foregrips though (trying to avoid all RIS). Searching for it linked me to some other options so very helpful indeed cheers @Archer - hey! Great to be remembered, a long time indeed away from the forums I could still be found at the usual site until it closed down (sad times), so currently just getting to grips with a new site. My only concern with the side mount was the height of the scope in relation to the stock / grip compared to what I'm used to. I'll have to see if someone owns one and would be kind enough to let me 'have a try'. I agree with the PBS-1, just didn't know if it was 'correct' for an AK-74.

  36. Day went great, we narrowly lost 3 games then absolutly destroyed the other team in a CQB game. Lots of great play by both sides. Lost a pistol mag but got it back at the end of the day after someone handed it in. And once again the WE based L119 GBBR didn't miss a beat all day 😁

  41. Would agree with this 100%. The gun is only one small part of your loadout. Think what else you need. Clothing and protection wise mainly. Not just for looks- you want something that's practical, conformable and isn't going to make you drown in sweat. What site will you be playing at, what camo or colour will work well there etc. Eye pro is your most important thing imo.

  42. at the risk of potentially giving out advice.... OP: have you considered what you're wanting to get with this £500? it's usual to have to factor in things like magazines, batteries, chargers etc for a starter purchase. reason i ask is that spending less on the gun, and more on accessories such as web gear, slings or a nice optic to partner with the gun can be just as valuable as the gun in the first place. eg a bone stock tm recoil with 1 magazine is gonna be a whole lot less useful than say a cyma platinum with a nice red dot, sling, bunch of mid caps and an odin in terms of overall skirmishability. i know i made that mistake first time, dropped all my cash on an f2000 and spent its first day out with 1 hicap and no sling, needless to say i couldn't bear to drop my new shiny toy on the ground so by the end of the day my arms were in agony.....

  44. I don't know where you are Osh but Battlestations in Snetterton would suit you I reckon. It's a CQB sight that allows snipers. You can literally command almost the full field from the top of the ship on one field or the gantry in kill city. A site regular may know if I have the names of the features wrong, but I have seen limited mobility players snipe there for the reasons you give. (The 'idea' for the pistol ban came from the Cullen Report 1996 (Itself a response to the Primrose Petition) and was accepted for a bill under Major, it was enacted by the incoming Blair. No fan of either but blame where its due.)

  46. I'm quite intrigued as to whether these training days teach "real world" tactics, or airsoft tactics. Because real world tactics (I've watched a lot of them in Hollywood movies) mean a SWAT team bursting into a den of crashed out junkies at 3am, or a Delta Beret team bursting into a compound full of women and younglings... at 3am. That's a bit different from two teams of essentially equal players all hopped up and tickling their triggers. Absent grenades, airsoft "door kicking" means shoving some fat bloke in a plate carrier into the room to see where he gets murdered from, and then shooting the shirt out of that area. I'm not sure that "Sacrifice Porkins!" is part of any real world doctrine. However, we live to learn, and I'd be interested to know if anyone is teaching something better than that, that actually works in a game of pretend soldiers.

  47. OK I made a mistake. I'll hold my hands up to that. I'm man enough to admit it. But does making a mistake make me a cunt? It's a shame we can't all be perfect! lol

  48. Maybe whoever sold a RIF to that obvious mental case should be prosecuted, convicted and sentenced. The law-abiding majority are not the problem, and nothing that we do will stop mentalists from abusing the law.
    1 point
  49. Sticking your hand up the front of your jumper and pointing an index finger at someone won't be stopped by any law, and it would be impossible for anyone to tell whether it was said finger or the muzzle of a pistol. John Dillinger used a wooden 'pistol' dyed with boot polish to escape a high security prison. It is not possible to pass laws that cannot be ignored, technological knowledge, or human ingenuity.

  50. If a criminal wants a fake gun that looks real enough to commit a crime with then they don't need anything that looks even close to what we use. They could easily make something that looks realistic enough (or even easier than that they could simply buy an airgun that's just as realistic-looking as any of our RIFs), so imposing any further restrictions would be utterly pointless.
