Kicking Mustang, SO Whats the Story?
Impulse and one other reacted to Lollingsgrad for a topic
What's even worse is that his videos are popular enough that they appear in more mainstream media like Ladbible (note I said "mainstream", not "good"). That makes his stuff the public face of airsoft. The most recent one I spotted was him "punishing" people for not wearing full face protection by purposely hitting them in the face with his SRS. I reckon airsoft has enough of a stigma with the realistic guns and military gear without this guy making us look like thugs.2 points -
I believe that I’ve seen that episode before. It’s nothing in comparison to the police officer who entered my friends fathers flat when alerted by neighbours. He had died of a heart attack sat on his chair. The policeman found a revolver and was watched by neighbours as he carried it by the barrel with his fingertips. He failed to observe: that the revolver was in a western belt & holster, but there were two holsters - one of which was empty that a blood stained divers knife was hanging beside it that a rifle was leant on the wall beside the door ..... and if he was concerned about the firearm he failed to ensure the flat was secured to enable a search to find the remaining multiple rifles, pistols and knives around the flat, nor did he notify the firearms team. (He also allowed the letting agent go through filing cabinets and failed to contact her as NOK for a number of hours despite all the neighbours naming her) The revolver was a blank firing pistol, the remainder were air rifles and airguns. Her father was an old school ‘adventurer’ and film maker. The ‘missing’ revolver was later confirmed by his brother as having been sold in the past She didn’t tell me until after she collected the revolver that the police officer had mentioned that he had also taken ‘live ammunition’. He asked her why she wanted the pistol (none of your business, but as his executor it’s one of his assets / part of his property) and whether she wanted the ‘live ammunition’. She declined the ammunition and let it go for disposal - whereas the right response would have been to ask what ‘live ammunition’ had been found. There should only have been blank ammunition and air gun pellets. If there was live ammunition then what was it for, and what unknown unlicensed firearms had disappeared from the insecure flat ? (Or did the officer have no idea what he was handling? ..... particularly as the revolver was kept in his drawer until she collected it) She did raise many queries with the station about standard procedures when finding bodies and firearms...... the officer was subject to ‘re-education’2 points

Arrived today! Very impressive, 5 days from Spain! For a €20 belt I'm thoroughly impressed. Made very well, and will more than stand up to the rigours of Airsofting (not that I move with much pace anyway! 😁) I've got a game tomorrow, so we'll see how it gets on. Got an evening of molle threading ahead of me now!2 points -

Heya gents. A tech friend is working on my Ares SOC-AR. Thought I would pop up some info of the internals as well as photos because of how little there is about these rifles in terms of upgrading. Reasons for upgrading was because A) I dont trust Ares QC, B) Looking for longevity, C) Bring the Rate of Fire down as it is over cycling then the ETU auto corrects, D) Accuracy is god awful because the stock Ares Hop unit is just the worst. First of all, three of the six screws holding out outer barrel in place were rounded out from the Factory. More Ares QC! The gearbox unplugs from the Trigger/Selector Sub Assembly which makes things easier. The stock motor is a standard balanced motor, ferrite magnets. A bit disappointing considering the price, but not unsurprising from Ares. Ares ETU, Three big power MOSFETS, Top one is for AB. Decently powerful Microcontroller brain. Back of the ETU, Capacitor and Cycle-Detection Hall-Effect sensor. Gearbox looks similar to the Ares Tavor and PDR-C box. Tech reckons the motor is angled like that to accommodate the sling swivel sockets. He also makes an observation that the molds for the body castings must have cost an absolute fortune considering how intricate it is. This is all one casting, pockets, voids etc. Likely an eight part mold. It's just a shame that Ares made it out of the cheapest pig slag metal. But costs had to come down somewhere. Stock gearbox, Air seal was... Ok which is good for Ares, however the piston was damaged, premature engagement has pushed the rack up into the piston body. Note the fracture. Ares gears arent noted to be the best, so decided to change them out for some G&G's. However needed to install a new magnet into the new sector gear for the ETU to work correctly. With a bit of force... The Sector and spur gear were mounted on stainless bushings with the Bevel being on a bearing, these were all switched out for Hardened steel bushings for longevity. Along with a SHS all steel racked piston. Which was then swiss cheesed. First permanent mod was to the gearbox wall near the pinion motor. A small chunk had to be chopped away as the new gears were slightly wider in diameter then the stock ones. Bushings and gears went in as well. Next step is to run the new motor SHS Neo 16TPA motor in a little bit before installation and putting the gearbox back together. Other parts to install are a MaxxModel Air Nozzle, MaxxModel Hop unit, new 420mm Prommy barrel, Maple Leaf Bucking with Ohm nub.1 point

But I thought with the Titan you can recalibrate the selector switch because it's optical? Why wouldn't you do that before advertising it? It's a two minute job 😕1 point

But it DOES come with 30p as per the picture1 point

Oh I dont regret buying it. I managed to get it for much cheaper then what they go for in the UK ( I paid 320 quid brand new). It did work ok when I got it, just not very accurate, only knew about the piston issue once it was opened, I always plan to upgrade my rifles before purchasing anyway. When the goal is to get one of every AEG bullpup, I dont mind so much. Ares QC is usually really bad on their air seal components, M4 style rotary hop unit and poor design of the gearbox shells (See the L1A1 fiasco) However at least Ares push the boat out and bring us designs that no other manufacturer will touch, so there is that at least!1 point

Got some 2 metre packs (red and black) on the website now, it's definitely less flexible than the ptfe insulated 16awg wire but that can also be a good thing, it's certainly improved since I last tried it - impressed with it for the price. Thanks for the suggestion.1 point -

Warfets in Aks
Skara reacted to Adolf Hamster for a topic
tbh the nanohard aint much smaller than the warfet. can't say i'm a fan of the mid range stuff, the warfet is ok because at least you get precocking but especially on v3 boxes i find ab has a nasty habit of causing lockups on semi. of course it's setup dependant i suppose.1 point -
Laylax Going Full Ham on a Gearbox Shell?
Pappa Large reacted to Adolf Hamster for a topic
i'll be honest i dont think beyond a complete shake up of the internals of an aeg that there's anything inherently wrong with the basic split design. quick change spring is absolutely a wonderful thing that should be mandatory, but i can't think of any advantage to that setup that couldn't be solved by simply making a standard design out of good materials and quality manufacturing. for the kind of builds that box is aimed at, you're going to be spending hours getting everything perfect, or using parts that fit nicely from the get go, so saving time in the assembly process is kind of a moot point that doesn't even solve the usual problem of getting the trigger and arl to sit nicely while lining up the gears with the other half.1 point -

Anyone Know Where to Find Decent Wire?
DerDer reacted to Sitting Duck for a topic
It is a tiny bit stiffer than regular wire but is due to thin but very robust nyrol/mPPE insulation which means you get 3mm silicone wire in 2.1mm thick wire (though to be honest some 16awg might have up to 30x.25 strands (specs do vary) & Alpha is 26 x 0.25mm strands, so a whisker less than some high spec 16awg wire, but 16awg varies but c'mon, if space is tight like in V2 channels, you get the spec without the grind(ing of channel etc...) A word of advice - 14awg Alpha is fucking stiff, much stiffer than the 16awg & I'd only ever consider it on ultra thirsty builds like a really really insane DSG for example - so go for 16awg imho (the 14awg is a c*nt to work with if you need wire to bend in say a v2 pistol grip, but 16awg is perfect) an idea of how it compares - 18awg example...1 point -
Remember a while ago on here I mentioned being PM'd by a Chinese manufacturer. Well, turns out they wanted to send me (and presumably anyone else who responded to him) a free plate carrier. Took him up on it, thinking "yeah right, that'll never turn up" Bugger me though, it arrived today! 😂 It's a Big Foot branded carrier. GTPC is the model. It's not half bad actually. Needs a set of phony plates to stiffen it up, but the quality isn't bad at all. The cummerbund has 3 elastic mag pouches on each side so you can carry lots. And the quick release mechanism on the sides is easy to use and quick to take on and off. Lesson to be learned: Always take up the offers for freebies 😂1 point
