Just joined the site and the sport. First off... it is great to have a proper forum for a change. As someone who ditched FB for good a few months back and of an age who remembers when forums were the place to go for information and connections, it is so good to see a very active forum again. I remember all the old forums I used to visit for various hobbies that died out with the rise of FB and groups. I hated the lack of diversity FB groups offered in terms of sub forums and individual threads etc... Anyway I digress, had a nosey around and the forum looks great and well categorised with an absolute wealth of activity and information. Cant wait to get stuck in more and learn more about the sport and contribute where I can. Have a great day!6 points

He heβ¦ well through all the fun above I have learned stuff - which is great! Seems that the site is actually testing Joules on bb weight - they always ask you to bring your mag and say what weight you are using. Just they didnβt actually ever say so at the site previously. But I can now see that they have changed the website at some point in the last few weeks to confirm that they have a flat joule rate and will test at your weightβ¦.! which I suppose is what we are saying is the right thing to doβ¦.3 points -
Note to self...never role play as a Zombie against 60 players. I've lost count of all the BB welts on my poor knackered body..LoL (Was fun at the time though)3 points

Very true itβs quite amusing at times when you see a player who you just assume would know the answer to XYZ but instead havenβt a clue BUT equally thereβs A very fine line between coming across as being surprised by this and coming across as a right arrogant twatwaffle ? its all about that first impression . Aahh right , no theres a very simple answer to the discrepancy between the two of them , Xcortech is a trusted brand who make very reliably calibrated chronographs , where as Nuprol only sell shit products made by the lowest bidder they can find . π3 points

Weather not looking great this weekend - wet weather gear?
Tactical Pith Helmet and one other reacted to RostokMcSpoons for a topic
Kit review coming up... But first, the weather. I shall now review the weatherman. He's a twat. Not only did it not rain at all, it was in fact sunny. So glad I bought that poncho π Anyway, the boots were good. Sure it was nice when I took them off, but they fitted ok. I think they also saved me from a twisted ankle when I slipped on a tree root. They are heavy though. I bet a modern pair of part cordura boots would weigh 60% less. I'm not going to swap though, need that waterproofing for the coming months...2 points -
The 'What have you just bought' Thread
MagpieTactical and one other reacted to TheFull9 for a topic
Spiritus sent over some new stuff. Their sling isn't my favourite one but if you want a 2-point it is very good no doubt. The new JSTA is interesting and makes a lot of sense for real dude-bros but I put it on my belt in place of my usual mag pouches and I'm not sure if I'll stick with it yet; the bit at the back for inserts is great for a rifle and pistol mag for quick reloads, but there's nothing else I really need to put in the rest of the pouch space. Might have to do some thinking and maybe move it around.2 points -

It's the exact same problem as that which spawned this thread: an ingrained habit of thinking in terms of 0.2g because that's what used to be common in the dawn of airsoft time. The law says nothing about BB mass. It actually says "a missile (of any kind)". The intent is clearly to limit what non-firearm airsoft guns could do in the hands of the malicious, rather than what us law abiding types intend to do with them. The State could drop 0.86g steel BBs in there for testing. We'd gasp in horror and say "you'll ruin the hop and barrel", but that's not a concern for Charlie Chav or the State. On the issue of sites chronoing with 0.2g because it's quick and gives you some estimate of what the gun might be doing with the ammo that's actually in it, well, that's true enough. It would be equally quick to use 0.4g though, and it would be more likely to catch hotter guns. It's not a panacea, but if you pick just one mass of BB to use, I'd advocate heavier rather than lighter.2 points

FPs ok - joules too hot?
colinjallen and one other reacted to Adolf Hamster for a topic
that's its own kettle of fish. one side of the argument is a players personal chrono won't be subject to the countless tube strikes, bb shards and damp storage conditions that a site chrono will. the other side is the site chrono (wether it's correct or not) is the one that will define wether or not you're allowed to play. the other approach to the argument is any cheap chrono that isn't properly calibrated should be deemed useless. as a practical term, if you can't access 2 or more chrono's that give agreement for a particular pew (under the same conditions that is, so same gun, same ammo etc), go with whichever one reads highest to be safe. it's part of the reason why you don't want to necessarily push to get a gun to be right on the limit, as it just takes a site chrono to be over-reading by a couple of fps for you to be turned away.2 points -

Don't worry mate, some people don't know the difference between a statement & a question, it's not like you asked "wot am bestest gnu" π. At a guess, when you fitted the new hop parts & reassembled, you prob drastically improved the air seal, which is obviously a good thing, easiest option is a new spring, especially if you've got a quick change box?2 points

New(ish) player north London

Hi everyone, Just wanted to introduce myself on here - I am a relatively new player from North London currently dragging a full metal AK74 across the grounds of either Reforger Airsoft or Driver Wood activity center π I hope to learn a thing or two on this forum and hopefully make some friends in the process. Hi chaps, A new experience for me today. I played at my usual site using my usual .25s and the same gun Iβve always used there and which has passed chrono fine before. I had, to be fair, just changed to a Maxx hop unit and maple leaf bucking. Today at chrono it was shooting 320-330 fps - but 1.27-1.3 Joules which was over limit. We tried with several chronographs and got the same result. field limit is 1.14J for Joules and (in all honesty) this was the first time I was aware that they measure J and FPS. to be fair they let me play locked on semi (have a Titan so thatβs no issue really) but this is a new one one me. I wasnβt aware you could have FPS quite that way under the limit (even on .25s) but still be too hot on the Joules. any idea how I can remedy?1 point

I understand that Jersey whilst owned by the UK is technically not part of the UK. I believe they have the same laws as us and that me posting a VSR Receiver and scope rail shouldn't be a problem. But I do have to fill out a customs form. Will I be covered legally if I put Toy parts? Or should I put something like "Airsoft parts" or "Low powered air weapon parts" ? Cheers!1 point

Newcomer to the scene :)
shadowfacex reacted to Khyber for a topic
Hey all, My name is Steven. Live just outside of Whitby, North Yorkshire (any members nearby?). Played my first game of airsoft last weekend at District 23 Billingham. Man was it fun, the most fun I have had in countless years. My only regret... waiting until I was 33 to try it out. That being said I can't wait to go and play again. Made a few purchases already to make the next game a little more comfortable as the rental face pro was awful. So purchased some Bolle goggles, a lower face mesh mask and got some armored gloves from the site on the night. I already have my heart set on a certain rifle but I know my best bet is to just go out and play for now with rental. My closest site is District 23 with Dirty dog not too much further and in the other direction have SAC101. Sure looks like a very informative and friendly community on here and look forward to getting stuck into the sport some more. I'm a tech geek at heart too so am excited to also learn as much as I can about what goes on inside the RIFs as much as the outside. Thanks fur 'avin' me (as we would say up 'ere)1 point -

Rogerborg reacted to Tactical Pith Helmet for a topic
I use mine a boring amount of time. Basic rotary hop and a plug in 'fet and away you go. I originally bought it as I saw how the rentals were abused at a local site. Years later it is still running as well/poorly as it ever did.1 point -
Lighter weight and compact rifle
Tactical Pith Helmet reacted to Rogerborg for a topic
Oh, sorry to hear that. Airsoft guns can be phenomenally fragile, it only takes any one of many tiny pieces being fractionally off to ruin your day. My sniper just barely made it through chrono yesterday before locking up solid, and it was onto backup AEG #1. I wouldn't even show up now without at least 3 usable guns. But it's good to hear that you had a G&G epiphany. Yup, the CMs might be plastic, but it's a robust plastic. They might have dial hops, but they're consistent. There are few surprises in there, and still worth considering even if the likes of Specna Arms and Lancer Tactical list more features.1 point -
Yeah isnβt that what we are doing on this forum? Yeah telling site owners and staff how to run their site is aβ¦β¦ sure way of being told not to come back? Yeah itβs called a margin for error, effectively keeping the players rif just about within the 1.3 joules But yeah. If youβve got something constructive to say about joule creep, I would probably listen.1 point

Today's game, everyone was calling hits, no overkills, generally people were there to enjoy the game and no shot guns. The previous week was a mixed bag of issues, people not respawinging after being hit, not calling hits, head shots despite centre mass being the bigger target, I am not bothered by head shots, had one this week, got a bleed from it, it wasn't intentional unlike the previous week when I had been hit in the head then a few seconds later, again with three more despite signalling and calling my hit. Overkill. So this weeks game was like a breath of fresh air.1 point

Mea culpa, I have a habit of doing that. When I'm tempted, I try to think "What would colinjallen do?", then I do the opposite. In this case, I do try to remember that sites are primarily responsible for educating players, and if they only talk in terms of fps, then what else are folk mean to think?1 point

@Rogerborg I completely get you. Itβs exactly the same as air rifles be set below the max joule/ ft/lb limit; to allow for variance in pellet mass. thanks for the school men. Iβm convertedβ¦ chrono on a heavy bb in joules. Everything else is gravy.1 point
-
That would be great. I kinda understand more now, and understand better what @Rogerborgwas saying (apologies). I guess Iβm old school, used to carry a bag of 0.20βs and a chrono to spot check punters- 328 +- 10%. Also most sites are still 350fps that weβve visited. I shall definitely look at a chrono and bb weight differently now. Just took it for granted I guess.1 point
-
I can't believe no one has posted an FPS chart for you. FPS only applies to a 0.2g BB. When they quote an FPS number it is always with 0.2g. If you set your gun up to do the correct FPS with a 0.2g then when you go heavier it should automatically slow down to the new correct FPS for that BB weight. GBB guns can creep sometimes and end up hot, but for an AEG this is mostly true. Joules on the other hand is just a measurement of energy. And more importantly the energy of the BB as it leaves the barrel. It's a more useful figure, but you still need to know how heavy the BB is. This chart lets you visually see where those J and FPS number line up. Take 320fps with a 0.2g BB = 0.95J. With a 0.25g BB the energy is still 0.95J but the FPS will now be about 285FPS. For your example you were shooting a 0.25g BB at 330fps = 1.26J So the converse 1.26J for 0.2g is = 365FPS. I hope that sort this out for you.1 point
-
I get this - and this was part of my confusion. At the site they have a new sign that says βlimit 350fps/1.14jβ which, well, clearly I found confusing!1 point

New items may be subject to import VAT etc and must be declared A lot will depend on how EuroTunnel classify airsoft & replicas and how it sits within their terms. In some older threads a few years ago there are some indications of them being treated as firearms due to the appearance of replicas and therefore should be declared in advance and declared to security for inspection on arrival https://www.eurotunnel.com/uk/legal/conditions-of-carriage/1 point

Druid799 reacted to Adolf Hamster for a topic
i can understand where your coming from, kinetic energy as-applied to airsoft chrono'ing is literally gcse level science. but at the same time, it is a very common misconception in this hobby, not helped by the convoluted way limits are stated mixing up metric and imperial units in the most classic of british fashions. so it's not really all the beneficial to be too harsh on folks that get fooled by it.1 point -

Errrβ¦ if you actually read what I wrote itβs clear that I understand they are two different things - what I was surprised by was the idea that FPS would be quite a bit below limit but joules still over the limit - particularly as the same gun (with the only change being the hop unit and rubber) was passed by the same site multiple times.1 point

In a "recreational" setting, I'd far rather be around a stoner than a pisshead (far less likelihood of violence and far better choice of snacks for a start). As for whether or not it's acceptable on a site - it's irrelevant if the site rules disallow it. Doesn't matter if you agree with it or not or if you are fine after a spliff or two or a couple of beers. Airsoft sites are privately run and more often than not have a landlord. If that landlord doesn't like anything the punters do the company running the site for airsoft can lose their lease. Breaking the rules and pissing off the landlord is a dick move.1 point

Going by the ops original question . Is it accepted by the general Airsoft community/players. I'd say there's no definitive answer, people's opinions differ as we have seen in this discussion.1 point
