Plumbed mains? Amazing well done that site, but how many sites can get or have access to or even the cash to get plumbed in. Bottled water is expensive, even by the palate, Sure give out a few bottles as part of your rental package as some might not expect the exertion on a skirmish day, but for every other fecker? Charge them a little over cost to cover fuel and time taken to get said palate of water. I am firmly on the "personal responsibility" side if this argument I use public transport most of the time and will still find a way to get 5lt+ to site on hot days like these.4 points -

Get some old dead batteries and tape them together or nice smooth pebbles taped together and put them in a jiffy , write his name on it and pop it in a post box with a single first class stamp attached , heโll get a card asking to pay the postage difference and I guarantee heโll do it because curiosity will get the better of him . do this once a week for a month and get your friends from all over the country to join in . obviously forget to write the senders details on it It really upset a known scammer a few years ago , so we waited a few months then did it again3 points -

once made a little tool for unloading a little from midcaps for this reason, used a bit of random steel but since found that an inner barrel is the perfect length. cut a ~2" section, drill a hole in the cut end and stick a pin/grub screw in there as a stopper. as for the general case of guns needing to "warm up" i've seen it happen but never really found a hard and fast reason why, my m4 pre-hpa conversion used to chrono stupid low (like barely able to lob a bb through the chrono low) in the mornings but once it had a few mags through it then rest of the day it'd be fine. best guess is that once the grease/seals warmed up from a few shots it'd start sealing properly although this doesn't explain why on a cold day it didn't happen again after lunchtime.2 points -

I found it on ebay for ยฃ30 or so and took a punt. There's no branding on it, but it is great. Has a fairly decent field of view and the reticule is so minimal. Means it does its primary job of letting me see better down range rather than making me think I can shoot the snot from a field mouses' nose. Ditched my cheap Acog 4x as the optics are so far off that the bb doesn't even hit in the field of view.2 points -

Novritsch sell camo gun covers. I bought a cover that was on sale in the hope it would fit ok, and with a bit of stretching it did, and so the gun looks like this, no permanent painting required: If you're less stingy than me you could buy the actual M4-compliant cover and it would no doubt be even better, but even this does enough to break up the long horizontal 'slab of black' which can be easily seen at distance. (Your hands and arms will block / break up much of the lower receiver and mag, especially from the front) I think this illustrates the worth of it pretty well... side-on is the worst case scenario, and at short range the movement gives away much more than shapes... but even at this super close distance, the only thing that really shows up is the magazine, mag well, and sight. And as someone else mentioned, vertical lines are much more natural than horizontal ones. The super-easy alternative to the camo cover is to get some green or camo scrim and wrap it around the barrel and fore-end, and tie it on with string or (sniper's) tape.2 points -
Tbf I think it's the speedloader that's bumping up the price.2 points

So you want to sell an M16, but you don't say what brand it is and it's also a section 5 firearm because it's firing over the UK limit for full auto. Good job.2 points

I donโt get that either them with their sugar drinks and me with my basic water. When my body says stop, I stop. I have seen players pass out, even though the marshals say drink plenty of water. No sympathy from me there.2 points

It can be done, but 2 litres of water per person adds up quickly, and that's all weight that the site owner (or a minion) is going to have to haul around, along with the usual consumables and rental gear. It's not a burden that I'd want to put on sites. They wouldn't need to bring enough for everyone - at first. Just the lazy forgetful clumsy unfortunates. But there's an endless appetite for free stuff, and if you knew your site was giving it away, would you keep bringing your own? It's far easier to inculcate dependency than wean people off of it. Bit of politics on the stage there.1 point

I'd agree that silicone *spray* is no good. It's the devil. Silicon lubricant has very specific use cases and for things like o-rings it's great, but is best applied sparingly as a grease, and specifically to those parts that need it. Its not good for high friction components. If you get silicone on similar metal to metal bearing parts can be worse than having no lubricant at all. I'm also firmly of the opinion that dry and wet lubes do not mix, so if you do decide to put graphite (do not) or Lablube in your gun, don't then follow it up with oil or grease that then forms a nasty paste in the inner workings. Much like you would get by coating the inside of your RIF with silicon vapour and then taking it skirmishing. But really all lubricants should be applied sparingly, after addressing as many other causes of friction as possible. Fettled properly, there should be little need for lubricant in all but a few places. Lube isn't a replacement for remedial engineering and rarely 'fixes' anything in itself.1 point

Building a motor
Rogerborg reacted to Speedbird_666 for a topic
Had a spare hour this afternoon, so had a go at reusing a short SHS High-Speed motor with a long shaft armature from a 'generic' stock ferrite motor for giggles. The results (so far) have impressed me - You basically end up with something like a 28TPA-ish High-Torque motor. A bit lethargic on 7.4v, but with an 11.1v it's got excellent trigger response, decent ROF (approx) 18-20rps with an 18:1 gear set, but runs very cool, which implies a low Amp draw. It was definitely worth a punt. Just make sure you shim the armature to minimise shaft movement (oooh...errr!).1 point -

"Arms and Ammunition - low powered air weapons Low-powered air weapons (air rifles, air guns and air pistols), together with lead pellets and other airgun and airsoft projectiles, can be sent but are subject to the following conditions: These items must be sent on an express48 service only These items must be sent via the Post Office only, and presented at the counter Enhanced compensation cover is not available" But people here have paid for more than that when handing the parcel in at a Post Office counter. It seems that they shouldn't be able to, but money changed hands. Note that I'm being careful with the use of language here. I'm not claiming that anyone has successfully received more than ยฃ100 in compensation for a "low powered air weapon", or even that you'd have a contract with Parcel Force, given that a notionally different company took your money. It'd be an interesting legal wrangle - interesting to legal wranglers - if it came down to it. So it's a gamble either way. You send with PF48, listed as a "low powered air weapon" and hope that you'll be able to pay for and claim on enhanced cover, or you post by any other company, lie about the contents, hope that they don't care enough to check, and that they either deliver it or lose it completely rather than damaging it. Sorry, I don't know of any courier that will accept and fully cover airsoft guns when declared honestly.1 point -

15p for a 500ml bottle of Costco mineral water isn't going to break the bank, especially when you can get a pallet with free delivery - these are customer facing businesses, and while personal responsibility is a thing... Why not make sure there is drinking water available for free - or cost? Especially in this weather. Bottles can split (as happened to us last time), get forgotten, knocked over. All sorts of reasons other than lazy for someone to not have water with them. One of the reasons I took extras yesterday. ๐1 point -

Super-general-purpose do-everything mag pouches...?
Dan Robinson reacted to RostokMcSpoons for a topic
Riiiiiiight... So I found the very first mag pouch I bought, but discarded (not having a proper MOLLE attachment)... it actually works great for M4 (as expected) and AUG mags, and it's workable with the M14 mags once the bungee is well loosened off. So I've ordered 4 of these from AliExpress, hoping that mine is in fact the 7.62 version You can see the construction from the grey version, I ordered green. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4001220175776.html ยฃ3.50 each! Plus a tenner for postage for the 4 of 'em. The only problem I've got now is it'll take a month to turn up. Should I return the WAS pouches for a refund? I guess I should, I could always re-order them.1 point -

Very nice looking shooter. Given these used to retail for ยฃ470 on Fire-support, I think ยฃ250 is a good place to start for the base gun. Personally - If you had a spare stock knocking around, I would consider swapping out the PTS EPS-C jobbie on there and sell it separately as it's probably worth ยฃ25-30 on its own. Do you have the original (LMT) Iron sights and (Tango Down) vert grip with it? That would help the sale too.1 point -

Best: TM MWS (it isn't hype) SADF M83 chest rig (comfortable and adaptable) Esstac Kywi mag pouches, Delta Mike face pro. Honourable mention to Cyma AKS-74u and MP5 - great guns and easy to work on when needed. Pentagon Wolf trousers and UBACS tops. Worst: G&P MOE M4 - horrible externals (but internals ok); big bulky plate carriers (zero benefit in Airsoft and so hot and sweaty) mesh face pro (just nasty) MucOff anti fog (would be better off using mud)1 point -

So I used mine for half a day on indoor CQB yesterday, I was using 0.25s tracers as indoors and a tracer unit (Acetech Blaster). Gun completely stock, haven't even cleaned the barrel or lubed it. Chrono was 290-300 on ASG Ultraair green gas. Thread adapter, I was using this https://www.leesprecision.com/cnc-machined-14mm-ccw-thread-adapter-for-tokyo-marui-mp7 , as I hadn't realised it came with one and had pre ordered the adapter before receiving the gun, it's a little shorter than the one supplied and fits well. Very impressed overall, it was accurate and consistent although the ranges I was using it at were pretty short. But I was able to zero in on door frames etc for people peeking. I have one mag with a very slow leak, so will reseal #Gas huh ๐1 point -

Well got my kit together for tomorrow's Big Skirmish at AWA. My SVU courtesy of @Asomodaiwill be having its first run, which I'm looking forward to. Got a big bag of 0.32s to go with it as well as a 3d printed stock extension which is stuck on such that it can be taken off if needed without leaving marks (the adhesive is still going off, but it will be invisible when it has finished). Also got an alternative 2x scope with a filament reticule which is pretty good. There's a red dot sight in my case too. And of course my obligatory "Running Fat" badge. Have got a second Ops panel so I can quickly swap between M4 spray and pray games and DMR. I haven't decided yet whether to try an run with both the M4 and the SVU at the same time.... That's a pretty heavy kit if I do. But I don't fully trust all my pistol mags.1 point -

So I got my torch through the post today. Has pic mount, tail switch, rechargeable battery, is very respectably bright indeed. God it doesn't seem that long ago that Maglites were as good as it got and they cost a fortune, this cost 15 quid and it could burn yer retinas out. White LEDs are amazing. However, after looking high and low for my red torch filter it looks like it's MIA. Never mind I thought, I'll just dig out the lighting gels my gf got me from her work, stick one behind the lens. Unfortunately I have three shades of blue, a green, and a, er, pin-MAGENTA. Not sure how tactical this is but it may have to do for now ๐1 point -

That's the A2. Pre-2013 they were 12in (assaulter version). The gun I saw definitely wasn't 'new' but was in very good condition. No indication of any kind of sound suppressor, and was setup with pretty much the same kit as the L119A1 (Grip pod and ACOG with red dot). Definitely not setup for long range precision shooting (that's the L129's job). If I had to guess, it's employed for counter body-armour. That being said, I had less than 30 seconds with it and was more concerned with cocking, dry firing and looking through the sights, so it could have been a 13in version, but it only seemed fractionally longer than L119A1. In fact when I approached the stand I thought it was a '416 and took me a good couple of seconds to realise that it was it's 7.62 brother. Once I put the gun down and asked a few questions - it got nabbed and put into it's peli case. Anyway, cool day in the office.1 point
