There are some nice looking boots that are cheap (£50-70) and will look respectable outside of a pew-pew scenario, so yeah might take a wander to try some on. These look very nice for £69 and even inspired this as a review - poetic, you might say even a bit Haiku-like "Very comfortable. That good. I bought 4 pairs. For future. I have tried many boots. For the price. Brillllant." Three L's in "briliant". So instead of mentioning cherry blossoms, he's channelled a bit of Fast Show instead.

That's the thing, your feet don't know you're not a "pro". This is the best advice here. You have to go with what fits YOU, not just what someone else recommends. After hearing how Lowa boots are the best thing ever I finally caved and bought a pair of Zephyr GTX boots. Everyone said they shouldn't need breaking in and that they were like slippers from the first day. After wearing them around the office for a day mine left me with numb toes. TRurns out that wide, supinated feet with a very high in step do NOT work well with Lowa Zephyr GTXs. I have personally found Merrells to be very good (ie comfortable and acceptably waterproof). I've had Sawtooths (ally as fuck but quite heavy), two pairs of MOAB trainers for just walking about when it's a bit wet and currently have a pair of MOAB 2 Tactical Response GTX zip side boots for the BB warz. Conversely I know plenty of folks that won't touch Merrells and that they fall apart after a few uses. The one caveat I'd add to @clumpyedge's suggestion is that there is really a minimum I'd expect to pay for a decent boot that will last for at least a year of semi regular use, cheap chinese stuff may well be made in the same factory as the better branded kit but I can guarantee it won't be subject to the same design constrictions or QA. If you want value, get to Go Outdoors and get their discount card (which is about a fiver a year if I recall) and spend the same budget getting better boots at a discount. Great boots won't make you a better airsofter, but bad boots can ruin your day!

I have been using Geoff's tracers for a year now and had no problems with them at all, light up really well great seeing that green/red stream in the dark.

That's the problem for me. I don't want to socialise. I don't want to hear some half-cut kiddies Airsoft 'war' story or be lectured on the why their gun/equipment/upgrade is 'am bestest eva' over a camp fire. I don't drink, so watching other people getting shitfaced doesn't appeal. And I would bet money that some cockwomble will be letting pyro off at some point in the early hours for shits and giggles. So for me it would be all about actually playing, which frankly is a bit shit on a good day at GZ. But if it's your thing - cool beans. Have a great time.

ASG Blasters have been banned at several sites due to shattering. I generally use Geoffs.

First time CQB play at Biohazard in Stevenston, 4 of us played the night games and really enjoyed the layout of the site especially the second floor, took the Ronin Tk45 but didn’t even break it out, because the arp9 with tracer unit was too much fun and better suited to the environment, fairly decent hit calling by all, really friendly regulars and staff added to the experience, games where varied and evenly paced. Took it slow at first to learn and familiarise ourselves with the chokepoints etc (which possibly pissed off a few other grumpy players that just wanted to push) but we soon picked up the pace.

First time out for me and the boy at Camouflage Bournemouth yesterday. First impressions were of a well run, responsible site. Decent safety brief, quick chrono and a fair mix of players; regulars, newbies, male, female and a decent number of juniors. Terrain was more challenging than I thought it was going to be, with some fairly steep hills to negotiate. The site is set out in a logical way however, with some decent structures, good ambush positions and the games are well organised. The heat was pretty brutal, which was to be expected, but most people seemed to be coping well. Hit taking was a bit of an issue at times, as was over-shooting and players flashing at each other more than usual. Must have been the heat! To be fair though, everyone got a rebrief during a break about all these points, and about some of the language being used towards other players, which was good to see. I get that some people feel that getting lit up by a 12 year old is beneath them, but you have to question the sort of person who goes to airsoft not expecting to receive a hit all day, then calls a child a c*nt for doing just that. Totally unnecessary. We left just after lunch as my NGRS shit itself for the first time ever, and I'd neglected to bring any back-ups. Definitely be back there before long though and my lad absolutely loved it.

Only advice I’ll give on boots is if you want toe protection go for composite toe caps over steels. makes the boot miles lighter and they tend to last longer. my work boots are 6 years old and have recently gotten to the point of needing to be replaced.

I'd second the baofeng. I've been using them for years and they are still going. I run a fist mic attached to my rig then plug in my earpro when I wearing them. The only mod I did to the fist mic was to add a mute switch so I could sneak up to folk and not have the radio give me away.

For radios themselves lots of people will recommend baofengs uv5r which can be good and can be good for starter or Airsoft radios. However, to use them you should have a license and when people get the licenses they tend to go for the small business licence (£75 for 5 years) and covers a group of people. Some sites (gunman Airsoft for example) and allow customers to use their licence/channels. Lots of people don't bother to get a license and I have never heard of anyone being caught, but that's the law bit covered. You shouldn't use them on pmr channels (too powerful) but you'll have channels you can use them on They take the standard Motorola or kenwood (can't remember)fittings, so you could get a standard speaker mic for them and a covert ear piece. Or you could go to someone like JCI Comms and get a military style ptt which would mean you can plug them into your military style headset. Going this way is expensive, but good Comms are expensive. There are issues mixing and matching repro comm stuff with real stuff, JCI can recommend. You could also go for standard pmr radios from Argos, but most won't be powerful enough for some sites (especially with buildings). And headsets etc will be more limited. Next up you could go for Motorola, kenwood or yaesu. They're the next level and most will need licenses. Similar issues as with baofengs on the accessories department but the QC on the handsets it better. Baofengs have a habit of failing when they are exposed to damp, I used then for weekend events and after binning off my 4th or 5th one I got a Kenwood and have used it since, £25 per baofeng or £175 for a Kenwood. I was using it for a lot of weekend events, in the rain, cold, snow, hot etc. If you really want to pay out but have what should be amazing comms, you could get a TCA or Tri 148/152, basically repros of real radios, £250+ for the radio + only works with legit ptts and headsets. JCI Comms (Facebook and instagram) will be your friend here. From what I've seen they're amazing when they work but often have issues or niggles. For you, my recommendation would be a baofeng uv5r, a baofeng speaker mic and a covert ear piece from eBay, roughly £45 all in, plus your license if you need one (depending on your site). It works for most airsofters needs 95% of the time. If you really enjoy them etc, then upgrading when you're more knowledgeable is sensible. I don't know about blue tooth for the foregrip based ptts, sounds good but risky Vs hardwired

Amen 100%, I've camped, done 72hr pure milsims, various other crap, often in the worst conditions, all on the understanding that the gameplay & organisation will be top notch, anything less & I'm not interested. Hence why in all the years I've been playing, never even considered doing the naf, it's reputation precedes it, bit like most AI500's lol.

WoW and I thought I was the grumpy my fellow man hating one ? 😉 😂😂 I do see where your coming from , I’ve always gone with my best mate and others have come and gone as well , we go just to try and decompress a bit as we both Have very high stress jobs . We make a point too keep away from the ‘ninja warriors , Gods of war and the crotch goblins with their “my bbgunzuk gun am bestest !” or trying(and failing)to regale me with their exploits of daring do that day but I do enjoy a beer or two and a general chat with the players I can see are on the same wavelength as us . I always head for the back of the ‘quiet’ field my self , far too old for all that noise ! 😱 but no we’re not going this year , I think 3000 too many plus I’m still a bit cautious around very large gatherings due to the Covid risk .

That is almost exactly the same as my rationale for not going; to be honest, I can think of few things worse, except any festival involving hippies. Which is worrying as I am doing projections and lights at one in September that my band is playing at.

It really is a personal choice. If you are looking for a serious mil-sim event then this wouldn't be for you. If you are looking to socialise and engage with players from around the world with a shared interest in Airsoft then without a doubt the best place to do this. Remember its a festival not a skirmish weekend so my advice would be to look at it like that. Myself and my team do a lot of mil-sim and serious skirmishes throughout the year. So we use NAF as a chance to kick back relax and we generally spend more time at the bar then we do out in the field. But it really is a personal choice.

I get/understand the Negative feedback from NAF as it is certainly a reoccurring theme. To be fair we don't go for a serious Skirmish we do that every other week at various sites around the South. Its an Airsoft Festival and that's the mentality we try to adapt for it. So good times, Brotherhood, Meeting new people, occasional drinking game and untold amount of Red Meat. But i fully understand the frustration of Bottlenecks and occasional carnage idiots.

you're doing it wrong. airsoft reviews are 90% listing how ambidextrous it is, 5% chrono test and 5% accuracy test all conducted within 20 minutes of opening the box you're not supposed to give people actual information or give them any notion of longevity.... i jest of course, good work actually reviewing the thing properly over a period of years.

Raid modded my Helikon BDU shirt. Wrist adjuster and chest pocket buttons replaced with velcro. Lower pockets removed and large loop velcro patches added. These were then attached to the upper arms. Also bar tacked over a small rip. Quite a productive afternoon given how bleedin’ hot it was! Coyote brown velcro from ContactLeft (Ebay) and Gutterman thread (colour 208 - from Amazon)

Picture worth a 1000 words. This is great. Thank you. Well this week has been frustrating. I cut the ab++in half, requested to by Jakub at Perun. It appears to be faulty. They're sending me a new one. Jakub runs Perun and found the time to help me out and answer my questions and fault find. Superb service from Jakub/Perun. Whilst signal getting down signal wire to the ab++ it wouldn't trigger the motor. Lot of tests later it appears board may be faulty. BTW its wired up just like the v3 gearbox in the pic. So awaiting a new ab++. I've got a (Rocket) upgraded switch I'll fit into the gearbox. Whilst waiting. I'll get there. Appreciate the input. Can feel quite isolating working on your own.

Well I wanted to see if the LCT AK19 grip would fit on an Acrturus AK12. The good news is that it does but the bad news is that it's a pig of a job quite frankly. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone else to try.

You can buy a generic AR and it'll look good and fine with 100 different loadouts. You can own some surplus trousers and a t-shirt and have a hell of a time with 100 different guns. People who tell you you're 'doing it wrong' deserve nothing but the block list.

GZ is my local site. I live 20mins away from it. In the 16-odd years I've been playing, not once did I think the NAF would be a good idea from a gameplay perspective. I mean, the place sucks with 200-300 players on site during a 'normal' skirmish day with bottleneck tracks, shit terrain and millions of rhododendron bushes, so the thought of it being scaled-up by an order of magnitude (with commensurate price increase) definitely does not appeal. BUT...... GZ are trying something new with a two day Milsim-ish (battlesim??) event in May - Operation Green Sceptre That seems to be a much more compelling event in my mind - the site itself would probably work quite well in the ammo-limited, Milsim scenario-driven context. Less likely to see the gameplay completely stopped by a kiddie with a drum mag hidden under a bush at the top of a track seemly invulnerable to BB hits.

Well I’ve been to most and can happily say the gameplay absolutely sucks like a busted hoover !🤦‍♂️ Really can be that bad , you have bottlenecks , blindfiring , players not taking their hits , players not pushing forward , sitting around chatting , etc , etc you name the gameday complaint and I 100% guarantee you’ll encounter it multiple times through out the day , I’ve always said there’s just too many players to be able to run an effective game BUT and this is the important bit for me I don’t see any of that as really that big a negative because when you think about it when are you EVER going to get a chance to play with 2000+ players ? 😱 Me ? I don’t go for the gameplay i go for the social side of it , now don’t get me wrong I do enjoy the game(me and my mate just play our own game spending the day trying to shoot as many players as we can AND as inventively as possible!😂)plus I’ll often arrange to meet up with forum/Facebook group members just to put a face to a name as much as anything , I always take a shit load of kit to sell at the ‘airsoft car boot’ sale and I always go with my best mate(we both have very high stress jobs so it’s just nice to get away from everything for a couple of day , forget about work , act like a pair of stupid kids and just generally chill out and decompress 😁) plus various other friends and team mates come and go each yr so there’s always a small group of us . For me if you go expecting a well organised fast paced Mil-Sim event then you are SERIOUSLY going to be sorely disappointed ☹️ BUT if you go with zero expectations and just take it for what it is I’d say you should have a pleasant experience . Is it worth the couple of hundred pounds it’ll end up costing ? Not sure about that anymore but again it’s up too you in the end . 🤞 live long and prosper.😉
