Joules or FPS?
Druid799 and 2 others reacted to Adolf Hamster for a topic
they're both the same thing, well sort of.... feet per second on its own is a velocity measurement, no different to meters per second, miles per hour, furlongs per week, parsecs per year etc however when applied to airsoft it's not on it's own, it's always feet per second using a 0.2g bb, that second part turns it into a unit of energy, same as joules, kilowatt hours, foot pounds etc the reason we describe it this way is because that's how it's measured (a chronograph doesn't know what size/weight the projectile is, only how fast it's moving), or at least how it used to be measured, and it's a convenient number to remember in the same weird way using km/h seems odd to us because we're used to mph when the reality is both are telling the same thing. we're just used to the speed limit being 60mph and can easily visualize how fast that is. i don't know why feet per second is the velocity unit that ended up becoming standard, seems to be it's even used in notionally metric countries (i may be wrong on that admittedly they might use m/s), i'd guess it's a case of resolution. discerning between 328 and 329fps is easier said than between 99.97m/s (0.99948800156877J) and 100.28m/s (1.0055917309061J) these days with folks using a plethora of ammo weights, and chronographs able to calculate joules on the fly it makes sense to be using joules. if a site can't be bothered reprogramming their chronograph for every player you can still just jot down the fps limit for the common ammo weights and tape it to the chrono, then you can still use the velocity measurement the chrono spits out (which will always be the raw measurement) and match it to the limit for whatever weight the player is using.3 points -
Joules, every time. It's not the 1990s, and nobody (apart from indoor CQB) is using 0.2g any more. I've heard the argument that fps is easier to understand because it's one big round number, but that's self-delusional reactionary geezerism. Sure, saying "350fps" is simple, but it's not helpful when it's not going to apply to the majority of players, and they need to translate into Joules, then back to fps for their BB weight. Even worse is sites saying "Oh, everybody knows what we mean", when that's demonstrably not the case. I've seen multiple people on Failbook saying "Yeah, I'm shooting .32g at 330, that's fine, right? Under 350, yeah?" Anyone who has a chrono at home can set it to Joules and their BB weight, end of argument. Anyone who doesn't, well, they don't matter to the argument, because what are they going to do with the information? Look at retailer clamed fps? Those are (at best) results for one example, not the one that you'll receive, and when sites start to specify in Joules, and chrono with site 0.3g+ BBs, then retailers will eventually follow along. </rant>3 points

what your think best experience on airsoft?
Lozart and one other reacted to ImTriggerHappy for a topic
Would be impossible to pick a single moment but best days would be easier. The forum games where some of us went for a meal like the one where @Jedi_Master ended up wearing a milkshake and we all got to put faces to names and then shoot each other. The last few games at the Mall, all sad but some great camaraderie especially the last day.2 points -

Joules or FPS?
Druid799 and one other reacted to Adolf Hamster for a topic
i guess the main thing is not to catch the cheaters, as there's a plethora of ways for them to get around a morning spot check, but to catch the honest accidents. it's why i don't see a problem with merely asking folk what ammo weight they're running, better to make the cheaters have to straight up lie so that when the follow up spot checks catch them you can go straight to gulag, do not pass go, do not collect 200 youtube views. of course this is reliant on sites actually following up on vaguely mumbled threats of in-game chrono'ing, and actually kicking players off the field for rule violations. which is something i'll believe when i see it.......2 points -

Joules. Hands down, no contest. I'm pretty sure I could chrono my HPA guns on .2s, then watch the joule creep as I use the proper weights I like. I imagine my VSR would probably be closer to 3J if I chronoed to 500fps on .2s and then swapped out to .48s that it needs to perform to its best. I might try this and chrono at some point, just to see what the results would be. At the end of the day, the energy is what impacts and hurts. FPS by itself is meaningless.2 points

CYMA CM.127 or CM.127S. The S model has a lipo battery and a mosfet, which should give it a snappier response. Relatively speaking. I've sunk plenty of time and money into my CM.123 (same internals as the Glocks) and it's still very disappointing to use. Low power, not a great hop unit, and poor trigger response compared to a GBB even with a big 7.4V lipo and fatter wiring. Oh, fatter, that too. They are big, bulky things, and the proportions are wrong, as they grips need to be thicc to hold the motor, gears, cylinder, and magazine. Mine likes to drop magazines, and it's not the only one I've heard doing it. The extended 80 (ish) round mags stay in better. And the fun factor is very low. No blowback, a squishy trigger, and the poorish response makes the smiles-per-pound pretty low. I'd suggest skipping them entirely and going for a gas blowback pistol (e.g. TM or Army Armament R17), or if you want small and electric, an MP5K.2 points

Definitely CQB days, they're more intense and there are more memorable moments. The funniest day was fumbling a BFG and TKing myself and @Musica Then getting mediced back and repeating the exact same process again.2 points

My goto is Google. I then see who has it the cheapest and in stock. Best shop is a nice idea but really doesn't matter. It's the same kit and AEG's either work out the box or don't. Once i've taken it out and started shooting, in my experiences and with multiple shops over the years. It is pot luck on in a shop will support repairs when you strip a gear or something goes pop. I usually mod mine the day it arrives anyway, so warranty is kind of moot. But that said, best shops for service are Combat South and Land Warrior.2 points

Joules or FPS?
Jerry Mike reacted to shadowfacex for a topic
I’m working through a problem with which method of measuring weapon limits on PlayAirsoft. Some sites use FPS, some Joules, some both, and it’s a mess. I’m wondering what is the preference of the community? What do you find most informative for your purposes? If you have any comments as to the practicality of each method, please do chime in below.1 point -
To answer a few questions above. ZCI Barrel and Maple leaf rubber... I don't think I gain any further range (which is quite far already) but I did notice an improvement in shot displacement at range. Running as DMR on 0.4's.... MTW was a laser the the week...taking mofo's out at long range..and them not being able to hit back at me. I run my HPA tank in a variety of setups.. Pic 1 - Single shoulder type bag, which runs diagonally across my back, allows me to carry extra stuff...I'm running chest rig with extra mag bandolier here (Running light) Pic 2 - Plate carrier, with Camelback type carrier molle onto the plate carrier..only room for the HPA bottle really. Pic 3 - Can't see it, but running just a camelback water holder, with the HPA bottle inside it...drum mag holds about 2000bb's...I use this for really light loadout!1 point

Probably sitting in a Bush in a night game and listening to a couple of opfor on the other side of said bush discussing how they're going to flush me out, even down to the 3 2 1 countdown. Since my martial arts school reopened at the start of the month, I've also started going to the gym. I've gone from barely any exercise, to 3 gym sessions and 2 martial arts classes every week, with airsoft every two weeks. I feel a lot better for it all, getting stronger, fitter and all around healthier. Had to take half of this week off though, since I fell off my bicycle when it refused to mount the curb and my knee was hurting from the fall so I didn't want to risk it. Seems better now, so back to the gym on Monday! Working US-friendly hours helps, because the gym is pretty empty around 9pm, which is when I'm down there.1 point -
It really doesn't matter to me. The gun is either site legal or it's not. People are honest, or they are not. The easiest way is for a site owner is force the person to use site BBs to chrono and measure the output. To get a rough idea of hot guns and potential players to mark. Or do what most do and have an fps chart based on the weight of bbs they are "told" are in the mag. A morning chrono needs to be quick and with as little faffing as possible. In "yeah ok" taggem and send them down the line. If a sniper is running 500fps on .2s. You know its going to be over, when they put anything else in it and no one runs snipers on .2s AEG's are a little harder to predict as some people for unexplained reasons still run lite ammo. Joules are nice for nerds. In the grand scheme of running a site; People can cheat the chrono every day of the week, if they want to. Lying about ammo weights, running a cold gas mag, turning the hop right up or changing out a spring.1 point

Sounds like the sort of shite you'd read in an instagram story. '...but couldn’t find motivation. He decided to tend to a single tooth each evening.' So, what would you call the thing that made him floss the single tooth a day? It's doesn't matter what phrase, saying or proverb you wrap it in, the drain you're circling around with this post is entirely attached to motivation. It's just highlighting that motivation doesn't have to focused toward a substantial change, which can make it seem like more effort is required to enact a change than you might think. You still need some sort of motivation to 'just show up', as you put it. I agree that small changes can ultimately lead to larger ones, but you need the motivation to stick to things because the excuses for not doing them come far too easily without it. In terms of my thoughts on the whole 'I'm struggling to find the motivation' thing, my honest opinion is to not bother wasting your time. If you're having to ask others for inspiration about something to get motivated by then whatever it is won't be enough to see a long term change come into effect. And that's not me trying to leave a broadsweeping 'just don't bother', but I've been there. My motivation this time round is entirely based around myself and my partner family planning, and I don't want to be a slob of a Dad. My Dad was amazingly active when I was growing up, and I want to be able to do that for my kids. Before I changed my lifestyle I wasn't going to be able to be the parent I wanted to be. And that's some proper motivation, not this 'I want to look good for an upcoming holiday' bullshit. Not that it's particularly worth anything, but this was the first time I've changed my lifestyle for the better and had aesthetics be nothing to do with it. I just wanted to be fitter, though fortunately looking a bit nicer is a welcomed side effect.1 point -

From years of getting after it: motivation is overrated. Just show up, every day, even if for 5 minutes. It’s all about building a habit. Five minutes is enough to get you going and you’re more likely to stick around for longer. I remember an anecdote from a dude, who wanted to take care of his teeth by flossing, but couldn’t find motivation. He decided to tend to a single tooth each evening. By the time he finished with that single tooth, he said to himself that he might as well do them all while he’s here. And that's the trick: fool your brain into showing up. Motivation comes normally from external factors. Showing up means you don’t give a damn about external factors, you go after it no matter the weather. Even if it means doing 10 pushups each morning.1 point -
Possible answer to the Afghan army question .
EvilMonkee reacted to Rogerborg for a topic
Heck, I'm hearing that half of them didn't even have ammunition, and that swiping gear in lieu of pay was seen as normal. And given their courageous ex-president was Tweeting "Never give up, never surrender!" while his private jet was taking off, why on earth would the poor bastards on the ground choose to stand there and shout "Bang!" ? Then factor in that loyalties run: family -> tribe -> sect -> islam in about that order, with "nation" not appearing in the list at all.1 point -

PMR frequency questions
Jacob Wright reacted to Rogerborg for a topic
If you're using them on PMR channels then there is essentially zero chance of anyone who matters being bothered by it. Stick to PMR channels and it's like doing 100 on a racetrack. The problem is if you go off of those, then you might find yourself doing 100 past a school for blind orphans.1 point -

oooohhhh look at me with my shiney new PTS EPM1 mags!! Had an absolutely brilliant time at Division 22 last Sunday! New mags fed perfectly! My mate ran his new MTW as a DMR, together we were a bit of a pain in the arse for the other team, I just wish my mate would wear his bloody comms!! I stuck to running 0.32's and was seeing some decent range, my mate was running 0.36's @ 330ish FPS (450FPS on 0.2's) and they were absolutely flying, the grin on his face in the safe zone was huge!! Yes, there was a photographer there. Yes, I bought a few photo's.1 point
