About the issue of projectile weight, erm lets call them "jewellers scales" have come down in price dramatically as checking the weight of "gold" has become more common. They are tiny and very accurate and even the cheap ones go down to .1 of a gram. Could be easy to carry with a chrono, pop bb out the mag, weight it, stick the mag back in and then run it through the chrono.3 points -

Well that was a full on, but really good, few hours and my youngest son and I are totally knackered out (lots of up and down stair wells) but very happy 😁 We played today, Saturday games open up at 12:00, start around 13:00, and finish at 18:00. Including us only 10 of 35 tickets were sold, but to be honest I think this probably made for a far better game as with a sell out people would have just camped and spammed the trigger. Sneaking around pitch black rooms and corridors between the low lit areas, being wary of shadows, and not knowing if that shape you see is a green or yellow team member made things exciting and tense. With things being at times very close encounters I've never had so many, and so big, bruises 😆 (I've a whopper on my forehead) The marshals were very friendly and a good laugh, people took their hits and the site shop is very good with the usual plus loads of RIF's to buy as well (and my son's now an AAP-01 owner too). Edit: I thought I'd just say, like others on this thread have, that fogging of goggles was really bad for me (I do huff and puff a bit though, I'm not fit) and it was for my teenage son. At times for me it was so bad that I'm thinking of buying an ExFog unit.2 points

Just because something has been removed from it's packaging, it doesn't magically lose 30% of it's value. Sure, it may not be brand new and sealed but who really cares if something has been opened and test fitted and then put back in the packaging. As long as someone hasn't fucked it up with scratches and stuff from the fitting, so what? Is it any different from a retailer, in this case Airsoft Global stating this? "Whenever we test any guns, scratch can't be avoided. Therefore, we are hoping that you may consider carefully before you purchase it! But we can guarantee that all items are brand new." If someone has gone to the trouble of going through the waiting time of importing something, paying customs fees etc, I see no reason why you wouldn't pay a bit less than the "brand new" price to save that time and end with something in the same state as it will be when you open the packet. The whole paying full price for customer support and warranty is also kind of overrated. Sure, for some stuff you absolutely want that in case it's properly borked but I'd guess lots of things can easily be sorted for lower that the cost of return postage to a retailer. You just have to evaluate the risk on an item by item basis. You're pretty safe with accessories and similar, especially ones that don't involve any electronics. I think at the end of the day, just be honest and make sure stuff is described accurately. Now if people are trying to pass stuff like a RIF off as "only skirmished once, as new", and trying to get retail price, now that's a no no.2 points

You can’t really boil anything down to a general consensus. The 60-70% is more a starting point based on retail prices if you’re entirely clueless on a fair price (which is why that’ll often be the outcome of advice on appraisal threads), but it’s much more a guideline than anything else. Real steal, airsoft, brand new, used is all largely irrelevant. There are two things that really matter in all of it in regard to those terms which are condition and warranty (or lack thereof). The other things to consider being availability, desirability, whether the price is an ‘all in’ price (which based on previous experience of buying from Rob I believe they are, please correct me if I’m wrong @RMDavis) and whether the seller is looking to shift their wares quickly. The only reason I’d personally be considering adjusting any price down on would be on the K2, despite the fact that within theory the cerakoting would increase the value it makes it more niche so the chances of a quicker sale would likely see a lower price… if the seller doesn’t care about ‘shifting things quickly’ then that’s largely irrelevant. As noted at the top of this post, the 60-70% is a guideline not a rule and there are various things (mostly subjective) which can adjust that percentage up on down from either the seller or the buyers perspective. My perspective as a ‘bystander’ prices a fine, but I’d expect them to take a while to sell at those prices because they aren’t ‘hype items’ that all the cool folks on YouTube that airsofters tend to watch are running around using. Now, that’s not to say they’re bad by any stretch… they’re just not rammed down your throat like Magpul and BCM tend to be as a consumer in the UK picking up RS kit (and no, that’s not to say I think Magpul or BCM are bad either… simply better/more prolific marketing).2 points

Had a brilliant day at Absolute Airsoft in Reading. Very well run and great fun. Took lots of heads today and had my share of bbs hitting me too... We also had a young man turn up with a claimed £500 of new kit. From gun to boots and everything between... so? He'd never played before (buying everything during lockdown) and decided, after the third game of the day.... "Airsoft is not for me!"... He has provisionally sold all his gear to another player and left. Hmmm. Me thinks he bigged himself up a bit too much....2 points

£22.55 from Brownell's (in OD green or black and brown) and a further £5.99 for delivery £28.54 total brand new (70% of retail would be £19.99) Strike 1 £31.90 again brownell's, £5.99 delivery. £37.89 total brand new (70% retail would be £26.52) Strike 2 £67.65 Brownell's, 5.99 delivery. Total £73.64 brand new (70% retail would make this £51.55) Strike 3, you're out! I get that it's real steal stuff but even at 80% of retail value those items seems a bit over priced to me. Those prices are so close to retail that I'd buy new just to the new item smell and the unboxing/opening experience of a new item. Maybe I'm being unreasonable here?2 points

A guy at our local site uses a magnet system that works very well. Its basically 2 small (about 3mm) thin magnets and on the one inside the goggles there is a small piece of cloth stuck to the magnet. He swipes the outer magnet over the lense, the inner one with cloth clears the moisture. Everyone's been bugging him to get more, but apparently he got them stateside and importing would be prohibitively expensive. But maybe some neodymium rare earth magnets and microfiber cloth would work. Me i just use fogstop and it does the trick2 points -

there are some good reasons to not actually use steel (is it actually illegal or is that just an urban legend? i've honestly never looked it up), i can see it playing merry hell with magazines, feeding etc then scratching the hell out of the barrel as a goodbye present. and as already mentioned MED rules would need revamping, for example to maintain a given MED you'd need to drop the power, which might not be the worst given poor range judgement, accidental close range strikes and kicking mustang are a thing. however it might ironically solve one problem- it'll be more biodegradable than "plastic". of course as i'm writing that the idea fairy strikes.... lead- quite possibly softer than some of the bb's on the market currently..... although there is gonna be a point where the velocity drop would be so much it'd be impractical, you'd probably draw the line when you had to wait until after lunchtime before all the shots you'd fired that morning actually landed. needless to say this is all entirely hypothetical with a lot of big citation needed stamps all over it, but it's fun to ponder these things every so often. the issue with joule creep is when not chrono'ing on game weight, if you chrono on game weight (without lying) then it's not a problem (compared to say stuffing .2's in, passing and not realizing the power jumps when they put their game .4's in), of course chrono'ing on game weight opens up for liars. i don't think there's any decent field expedient solution that which doesn't invoke the joule creep issue. at least as long as chrono's are just measuring velocity compared to say a ballistic pendulum that can actually measure energy (and would be immune to bb weight liars) of course anyone who lies about ammo weight to cheat chrono, or indeed exploits any other method to do the same well, you said it best:2 points -

But they're not (a bit blunt, but not trying to be rude) both those two items, you say you have tested fitted so by definition they can not be brand new. You can say they're used but like new or open box but definitely not brand new. The general consensus on this forum tends to be unless its from a retailer, you don't class something as new even if unopened. Part of paying full retail price is the customer support and warranty they are legally obligated to provide. Something you as a private non commercial seller don't have to do. Again, not to familiar with the real steal market but I think the same rules still largely apply. Someone chime in if have more experience/info to offer.1 point -

Yeah your probably right, but a price can only come down right? I've amended the used pistol grip but the hand-stop and Ergo are brand new so I'm sticking at those prices. Plus with the issue's with US air freight it took nearly 2 months to get here... Time is money and all that. Personally I only feel the need to apply the '70% retail' to used items. If your selling something brand new I think its irrelevant.1 point

Got the Angry Gun suppressor on, together with the Magpul CTR stock and MOE+ grip, and mounted the Vortex Crossfire just to see what it looks like. MK18 RIS II rail arrived today, as have a Laylax wrench, a PTS adapter ring and a couple of spare TM hop rubbers. A new trigger guard and cheek riser are inbound and I'm waiting to get either a BCM Gunfighter or Magpul RVG foregrip, some new BUIS and maybe a PEQ and weapon light, then I'll start on the final version...until the HAO SMR arrives 😳1 point

Good news, my hat is fully charged! I've just thrown that unit together from a 12V fan[1], a small 7.4V lipo with some kydex wrapped round it to make a holder, a switch, and some silicone tubing, all liberally[2] hot-melted together and finished off with Poundand's very best rattlecan black. [1] This is running much quieter off of 7.4V than the visually identical one sealed in to my Space Soldier helmet. I wonder if that might be a 5V unit. depends on what period of history you're going for. there's the raptor Grach, which seems to have mixed reviews, some folk on here have them hopefully they'll swing by to let us know how they're doing. there's the makarov, which afaik there are 4 versions- ics and kwc do non blowback versions which i don't know much about aside from the kwc having a pretty big issue with power. for blowback there's WE and KWC. the kwc is co2, snappy as hell, but only a single action trigger, slightly "off" in many of its dimensions (ie it looks weird), non-standard hop means how it shoots out of the box is how it shoots (although not that bad all things considered), comes at "you have got to be joking" fps (although they can be tweaked to bring this down to sensible levels as mine was before i got it), and of course CO2 and all the long term reliability that entails. the WE imo is the best of the bunch, decently snappy, more comfy than the kwc the proper single/double action with pretty good (by airsoft standards) trigger pulls in both, with a few minor tweaks you can get hilarious range/accuracy on good ammo, and snappy enough. of course as with many WE's they don't like the cold. the tokarev afaik had WE and src versions, don't really know that much about either of them. but tbh outside of a ww2 through early cold war loadout it's gonna be a bit dated. i also beleive there's nagant revolvers floating around as well, although we're getting pretty niche by this point. personally, i'd say the WE makarov is the best bet, not bad performance wise and thematically can fit most loadouts from the cold war right up to the modern day (although granted the grach and/or g17 would be better fits)1 point -

[Update] Iron Filing Bbs Confirmed (Not Steel Cored)
Adolf Hamster reacted to Rogerborg for a topic
I understand (informally, since I don't really care enough to look it up) that paintball "markers" only escape categorisation as firearms or even air guns because they use frangible ammunition. Ammo doesn't effect the categorisation of airsoft toys one way or another, since for once we actually got a very sensibly written definition in PCA 2017 S125. 57A Exception for airsoft guns (1) An “airsoft gun” is not to be regarded as a firearm for the purposes of this Act. (2) An “airsoft gun” is a barrelled weapon of any description which— (a) is designed to discharge only a small plastic missile (whether or not it is also capable of discharging any other kind of missile), and (b) is not capable of discharging a missile (of any kind) with kinetic energy at the muzzle of the weapon that exceeds the permitted level. (2)(a) is what protects us. (2)(b) is what we like to ignore, particularly HPA or anything over-volumed which could Joule creep to infinity and beyond with heavier ammo. Hopefully that will never be an issue, but if it gets out that some throbber really is slinging steel, potentially from a hot gun (I use "gun" deliberately here), and most particularly in Scotchland of all places, then I can see it ending badly for us. As to whether the act of shooting someone becomes illegal if you use steel cored or steel BBs, I guess it comes down to consent. We consent to be shot with plastic / "plastic" up to the site limit, although that's rather implicit. For all that sites waste their time and ours with meaningless waivers and disclaimers, I've yet to see one that actually serves as an explicit consent form listing exactly what to expect, i.e. being hit with said BBs at said energy. If someone's shooting at higher energies, I don't consent to that, but then again, I don't want it to become a legal issue either, given the potential consequences from the attention. I'd rather that the culprit was just permabanned out of the game, everywhere. As to being shot with steel-core or steel, I'm fairly relaxed about that as long as the energies are within the site limits. Although there's the issue of 2.3J snipers carrying more energy out to the point of impact, but we've already covered that the way to deal with that is lower muzzle energy to compensate for higher mass. And maybe that's something that sites should already be considering. Is it reasonable to have the same muzzle energy and MED for two players, both of whom are shooting 2.3J at the muzzle, but one is slinging 0.5J and the other 0.2J (and sadly I have seen a new sniper player doing that)? I imagine it's not something that sites want to think about, but if not then maybe they should be coming up with some harder rules about maximum and minimum masses, or just binning off higher energy toys altogether. POW airsoft, for example, has got rid of DMRs entirely because of the potential for shenanigans, require 2 games on site before you get to snipe, and have a 2.17J maximum energy for bolties. Sure, it's not a great idea, but maybe some players just don't care. I've got plenty of cheap mags and swapped-out brass barrels that I'd be happy to sacrifice in an experiment, and the contact patch of an s-hop is tuppence worth of RTV silicone. Agreed. Also agreed, and another thing that produces a cognitive dissonance blind spot in sites and players. 6 months at 60C in an industrial composter is not 6 months lying on the ground in woodland. Field chrono using the site's 0.4g+ BBs. If it's OK, move on. If it comes out high, then look harder, i.e. what it chronos at using the player's ammo, and what that ammo actually is (as opposed to what they say that it is). I honestly believe that if you're not doing that, then you might as well not bother chronoing at all. Because (effectively) voluntary pre-game chronoing and taking players' word for it on ammo weights only tests honest players for honesty, and does nothing to address the problem players.1 point -

You can learn as you go, kydex is super easy to use. It's tough but easy enough to cut, then just heat it and shape, and reheat and reshape as often as necessary until you're happy. You can use a heat gun, or just pop it in an oven. 2mm should be good enough, 3mm would be really solid.1 point

Unfortunate, and I expect that this "airsoft team" is as imaginary as the rest of his "the dog must have undeleted those pictures" excuses. And now back to the scheduled controversy: why didn't he just join an existing historical reenactment group or team, dress up in SS regalia, and then say "bUt I'm OnLy InTeReStEd In ThE HiStOrY, i'M nOt A nAzI" ? Personally I've got little time for that, particularly in airsoft. Wehrmacht, knock your socks off, but I've seen a couple of folks on Failbook who who go full lightning bolts, and then play the "muh history" card. Sure, that will be true for some, but it's also useful cover for those who harbour views like Licking Mustard's. I'd rather scorch that earth and leave them out in the open.1 point -
