Well it helps having friends who do electrical engineering and stuff for far more complex stuff. I'm currently in the learn the genera basics about circuits because I've never had to think about them since I did my GSCE's. I think most things are a function of how willing you are to learn and how readily the information you need to achieve you goal is available. All the info needed to make a gate titan like mosfet is out there, its just a matter of finding it and I have friends who could do this as a hobby project I can talk too. As for willingness to learn, I love doing stuff like this. In another life I'd have gone into some sort of engineering discipline. Alas in this life I chose to be clinically insane and do a PhD in a biology based science. All I've got to say on that is, fuck biology. It bollocks and never does what you want it too. 🤬🤬🤬 I've got some experience in electrical design - made fog proof goggles that use a transparent conductor applied to a thin film to heat the lens. A humidty and temperature sensor for inside the googles and a temperature sensor for the lens hooked up to an arduino nano. A simple program works out the dew point based on the humidity in the goggles + the temperature and modulated voltage supply to the film to heat the lens above the dew point. No noise, no moving parts, no reliance on continuous and sufficient airflow. Never fog, no matter what the weather is doing.4 points

@GothicGhost i bet thats actually quite effective camo in use! Finally got around to assembling the G36C, on the whole very happy with the build, although i think im going to have to swap the X-ASR for a Pico AAB, the internal rollback noise of the gears to the anti reversal latch drives me mad on semi!! Of all the colours i feel the FDE on the mags is the least effective, its too bright i feel, ive got some good ol' Humbrol Dark brown (FDE) aerosol which il prop spritz them with as its such an awesome FDE in use. The whole layout of the gun colouring was to blend with myself / Pencott Greenzone at the rear of the gun, and wrapping the gun around trees/fortifications/dirt etc at the front end.3 points

My absolute lack of guilt when shooting people with "skills" in the leg so I can outrun them. Hey if sacrifices have to be made to survive I choose to sacrifice them not me. I don't even have any skills. You know, like nunchuck skills, bo hunting skills, computer hacking skills. Girls only like guys who have great skills.3 points -
Old School Airsofters.

I started airsoft about 20 years ago, I used to muck about with some friends with springer pistols and SMG in some waste ground near where we lived. All fun and games till armed response tipped up one day, they were really cool about it (wouldn't be today) the cops were muckin about plinkin at each other with "guns" The police gave us a stern talking to, and sent us on our way, thats when we started looking for a site to play on, we finally found Pheonix, went a few times, then changed to Free Fire Zone because it was closer. after a while we formed a team of like minded Milsim types, and played for a few years at a couple of big games around the country (Copehill down, SWAT over in Wales) loved it, we finally drifted apart, I hadn't played for about 12 years, till I got dragged back into by my best mate (used to be on the team with us) happy times. /thread. Just go Dynatex for timed. For impact I'd normally say TRMR, but it looks like they really are out of production and stock now. There are other brands of impact grenades including some that take 3 or even 7 blanks, but they tend to be single-batch manufacturing - only buy from stock, never on a promise. And in particular don't give your money to the rogues at SWAT as you'll be looking at months before you see what you've paid for. For example (other retailers are available!) https://www.defconairsoft.co.uk/product/dynatex-timed-delay-grenade-bfg/ https://www.defconairsoft.co.uk/product/dynatex-dominator-impact-grenade-bfg-100-blanks/ Gas BB-shower grenades are a bit feeble, I've seen them go off at players' feet (self included) and they haven't even noticed either the sound or the gentle patter of BBs (if any even hit them). If you need to shout "BANG, YOU'RE DEAD!" you might as well be throwing dummies. The gas grenades that make a bang by popping a plastic window are also erratic, I've heard them go off fairly loudly, but also make just a sad little "pop". Some grenades can take either .209 primers or bigger 9mm. 9mm is much louder, but 0.209 is much cheaper. .209 primers make a satisfying bang indoors. In noisy woodland they can be missed, but 9mm blanks cost so much more that I'd rather fling .209 and shout "BANG!" (nobody can accuse me of being consistent ) Disposable, no thanks. As shark says, the number of times I've seen folk just take cover, or even kick them back (I know, don't kick them back) makes them very poor value for money. I actually make a point of standing still and taking the kill just so that the player that threw it gets their money's worth. But when you add up how much they cost, you quickly get into the region of buying a Dynatex. The big difference is that with a blank-firing grenade you're paying pennies per bang, and you have an asset to sell.2 points -
Thanks, definitely something to think about as the difference can be spent on other things for it! Yeah ive seen they downgrade it for free which is nice for sure saves me doing it! Suppose I've got 3 months or so to decide and when its in stock, not got my first game until 8th! Cheers1 point

Taiwangun or Patrolbase
Caj109 reacted to AK47frizzle for a topic
Go with patrolbase. Only go with taiwangun if you're absolutely sure you're not going to return anything and/or a massive deal is on. I love Taiwangun. But, I don't like the lengthy and expensive process of returning from uk to poland when something goes wrong.1 point -
TG is fine with a UKARA number. All tracked and only takes about 4-5 working days. Remember that they have higher post cost (£12+) so factor that into the price. I'd put everything you want into a basket for each and see how much it comes to including delivery. (The more you buy from TG the lower the postage is a factor)1 point

-
That effectively what I've done, I've got copper tape running round the edges of the film to ensure good electrical transfer across the film, film is then pressed tight to the lens and taped around the edges to keep it in place and in contact with the lens. I just bought a sheet of ITO coated PET film and cut it to shape to fit tight on the back of my revision goggle lens.1 point

a reverse wired tamiya plug is gods way of telling you to use deans.....1 point -
Balance plugs are wired the same, decent chargers will require you to connect the main lead though and yes airsoft mini Tamiya plugs are wired the other way around to standard RC Tamiya plugs. The charger will tell you though if the polarity is wrong.1 point
-
Also the fizz and long time on disposable pyro often end in a disappointing death toll in many situations. Although impact bfgs are popular and great when you want an instant bang the timed are more versatile ime. Fizzy pyro excels if you are going for a longer throw though as over arming hard bangs is a big no no.1 point

Get an old style Dynatec, very simple technology (ie feck all to go wrong), cover it in bright paint/tape, & then marvel at how cheap it is to run on small calibre blanks 😁. Forget BB propelling grenades, none of them are any good.1 point

I'll get pictures just as soon as I've got my final prototype assembled (made a few test rigs but they were just to prove the concept, think flat sheet of polycarb inside a box one the back open to mimic goggles) I'm just waiting to get my hands on a soldering iron to put the final goggles together in a non kludge and ghetto way. Should have them setup and working as an end product soon. I want them done by the time winter rolls round this year so I can unleash hell upon the fog blinded masses at my local games 😈 My plan is to find someone who could make them on request for people and split the profits.1 point

this, afaik the white balance plugs are wired the same so if it charges through there. a good charger (rc or airsoft) should make it very clear if it thinks you've got the polarity wrong. i've been using my old rc kit since i started, still going strong.1 point -
Mate, you'll be fine - and by the sounds of it a heck of a lot more self aware than some people too; so see that as a strength.1 point

np . The fn57 was the first to have a 15mm bbu, then the px4. I think I'm possibly wrong with the uspc as I think it came after the px4 because the uspc introduced the improved slide stop mechanism as well as using the 15mm bbu1 point
-
Your RC charger should work just fine for airsoft batteries, if it's designed for their chemistry - nihms are nimhs and lipos are lipos. Just check the polarity of the wiring - I believe airsoft mini-Tamiya connectors tend to be wired up opposite to RC for reasons that escape me. Deans (T) connectors seem to be consistent, with posiTive across the Top of the T.1 point

I would use my years of camping skills to move out of the cities once the food supplies dwindle. Relocate to where my real guns are stored. Then use my shooting and moving quietly skills, to keep myself and family alive. Judging by popular zombie law. The .22 should be very useful at dropping a zombie, quietly. I will of course also require to learn to ride a large and overly noisy motorbike. Then probably pick up a crossbow somewhere.1 point

There’s no more that I can say that hasn’t already been said suffice to say “Just do it,”. The smile on your face when you finish that first day’s skirmish will last all week. Hell it may even last till your next game. The only thing you won’t smile much about is that you’ll probably ache from here to kingdom come. But that’s all part and parcel of Airsoft. It’s simply damn good fun! P.s. I’ve seen them TM fairies. They are real!1 point

Smith Boogie Regulators Airsoft Warning: Should I Return Them?
Lollingsgrad reacted to Rogerborg for a topic
Then it would be a bit cheeky to return them. One of these? Yup, works a treat, I've put one on my lid running off small 7.4v 300mAh lipos that just tuck up inside it. I tried a 3.7v 18650 battery but it didn't spin it up quite fast enough, so I'd suggest 7.4V, or you could use a step up regulator like this. If it's attached directly to the lid, you will hear a fair bit of noise, but you only need to run it as necessary, not all the time - I would recommend fitting a switch. I didn't bother with a splitter, just ran a single piece of (initially) soft silicone tubing from around back, through the helmet shell behind the ear, and running around under the brow of the helmet. However, silicone tubing is so soft and squishy that it's a sod to cut holes in it, you have to snip out wedges, and I wasn't happy with the result. So I replaced the section inside the helmet with clear 5mm ID / 8mm OD aquarium tube which you can drill holes into. Two holes above either eye seems OK, although I may drill another on the side furthest from the blower. Just be aware that your helmet brow will likely be in front of your goggles, so you'll have to point your tubing / holes at an angle backwards towards you, not just straight down.1 point -
