EvilMonkee and 3 others reacted to Captain Darling for a topic
Sad to hear you’re not getting on with the MWS experience. As an ex PTW fanboy myself, I’m finding the overall reliability of the MWS platform very refreshing. I enjoy maintaining and tinkering with the gun, and it’s never let me down in a game, which I found was a major issue with my PTW’s, which I ran for about 10 years. I got sick of having to send them off to mysterious gurus for months at a time, to have various weak design flaws rectified at hundreds of pounds of cost. Worn sector gears, faulty motors, chopped bb’s, misfeeding magazines, catastrophic failure in very wet conditions, and a general lack of feedback from firing the PTW are all things that are thankfully long behind me know. They just got in the way of me enjoying skirmishes in the end. With a light bit of fettling, and good maintenance I’m glad to say neither my MWS or MP7 have ever failed to fire, and shoot accurately absolutely miles. Yes the mags are real capacity and realistically heavy, but I’ve completely got used to that, and I’m getting as many kills as I usually got, just with much more satisfaction of having bettered my hi-cap hose, sewing machine wielding opponents.4 points -

So I picked both these up from these forums and because I got them at a decent price it left some cash over to do a bit more upgrading. The NGRS M4 came with a prommy inner barrel and purple hop rubber. I was going to S hop it but i'll run the prommy stuff for a game or 2 before doing that. I fitted a titan and new pistol grip as the A2 style grip really gets on my goat. The M4 also came with the Knights rail in the box (it was a socom so comes with the plastic handguards). There is a small air leak between the cylinder head and nozzle and a new nozzle still has a slight air leak so I've ordered a new cylinder head and a O ringed nozzle to get rid of that problem (not really a problem as it's only a FPS variation of about 10 at the worst but enough to annoy me). The NGRS G36K I added the Jefftron V3 (first time trying one of these and seems to be a straight forward swap). I'll probably S hop this as well but right now it came with a Prommy flat hop rubber and flat nub and seems to shoot fine so I'll do the S hop at the same time as the M4. I actually prefer the Jefftron app over the Gate Titan App but that might just be because I connect the Titans via USB whereas the Jefftron is all bluetooth.2 points -

you sir have a compression leak either in the hop chamber / rubber or in the gearbox. chamber problems are easier to work on but gearbox issues you'll have to open her up. have a youtube search on "aeg compression tests". as roger says could just be something as simple as replacing or lubing orings2 points -

Hello everyone, I am Sebastian, and I am quite new to the airsoft, but I really enjoyed every last bit of it, including after lunch when belly is full and many players just go home. Got myself some stuff already a decent rifle, pistol, some gear, waiting for my medium rifle size bag to arrive and actually I want to take advantage and ask for some tips, I am looking to buy an ACOG scope 4x32 which I have seen is very nice and found it for about £60 on Amazon, is for a G&G TR4-18, any advice? I am booked for next week at Ambush Activities and this will be the third site I will be trying after South Combat closed and Badlands have nothing until end of June. Anyone here going next Sunday to Ambush Activities? Thanks1 point -

Sounds like you’ve had good luck with that. I don’t know if I was doing something wrong, but I ended up not trusting my PTW. Dropping it in a lake in Sweden or crawling around in torrential rain at Copehill may not have helped either. I’m over the moon to be rid of finicky, over complex electronic toy guns. I think it was my 15 or so mags all slowly developing feeding faults that put the final nail in its coffin. I understand how to take these and AEG’s a part to fix, I just resent doing it and find it no fun. I really like the look of the new Infinity, but I suspect I’d get bored pretty quickly.1 point -
Had a great day at Warminster Airsoft today. Blue won the morning game with one bridge out of three to Red's none but some good teamwork by Red after lunch got the the bomb in place for a convincing win. First time out with my new SRS and got plenty of good hits with it. Loved the short length and balance of the SRS, very easy to move around with it slung on my back. Ran my P90 as a sidearm and enjoyed using both all day. Good hit taking on both sides from what I saw. Suffered from bad fogging in the first game of the day but managed to sort it and goggles stayed clear after that. I'll definitely go with the SRS/P90 combo again, just need to make sure the P90's weapon clip doesn't fall off again. Good day out, many thanks to all at Warminster today. Good pic of the P90 sidearm.😁 New hat causing fogging issues. Hat change sorted the fogging problems followed by a successful first day with the SRS.😎1 point

Thank you everyone that has commented so far, going to test out all the above tomorrow and get some grease bought. Yes, I haven’t changed the barrel it’s stock, it’s just the guy at the Airsoft shop said with it already having a long barrel it should increase. However that’s good to know Roger about your experience. I’ll watch the videos on YouTube and will update you all! Really appreciate everyone’s help, thank you!! Will update immediately once I’ve done all the above 🙂1 point -

I don't think that OP has changed the barrel, just that it's 400mm to begin with, and it seems to have a full cylinder. It looks to have been designed as a DMR platform and with all those o-rings it should be capable of reaching or exceeding site limits - if everything is sealing OK.1 point -

@ShamalThe Goggles have had some heavy tweakage to fit around my glasses but my glasses still did the fog thing so I attached a couple of 25mm brushless fans in the corner it’s wired up to a small battery box which I used to tape to the strap but now will Velcro since I have got some for another project and a rechargeable 9v battery from my bass, and when my glasses started to fog at any point I would flick the switch it worked a treat a very very low fan sound - so faint someone stood next to me thought they had a gas leak This was before lock down since I have added the mesh, the goggles came with 3 colour of lens but since these are for indoor I went with the clear. The mesh mask is just a cheap one I got off Amazon with some heavy application of gooooo and it seems sturdy enough - I’ll give it a whirl if the Z-Mart meet up happens in July. Probably cost me £40 in total, but as I had some of the materials anyways it would be closer to £50 from scratch version 2 will be just the cost of goggles.1 point

Hi Sebastian, and welcome to AFUK. I'm guessing this or similar? https://www.amazon.co.uk/BESTSCOPE-Hunting-Optical-Fiber-Reticle/dp/B08FB4WY9D I can't speak to that particular model, but I will note that quality control on Chinese scopes is very hit and miss. However, Amazon at least gives an easy return if you get a lemon (as I did from Ali Express), and most owners seem happy. However, several reviewers flag up that the eye relief is short, which might be an issue depending on what eye and face protection you're using. It's also quite common for airsofters to put optics on risers to get a more comfortable view through them. Pic for attention, and you'll notice that I've set the scope as far back as I can because of the eye relief issue. And finally I do feel compelled to note that there's really no need for a magnified scope at airsoft 1.1J AEG ranges. I run a cheap 1x40 red dot outdoors, and a cheaper holographic site indoors (where there are fewer reflections). That lemon-scope there is on a DMR. Oh, and it's got no sight protector because it's a £21 optic with a plastic objective lens that might improve it if it gets shot out. If you're running anything nicer, I'd highly recommend popping a sight protector in front of it, for example: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Tactical-QMFIVE-Shooting-Protector-Foldable/dp/B06XZR34YH1 point -
I keep seeing more and more DMR players at my local site. I don’t think it’s long before they introduce rules about what CAN be a DMR platform only to ensure that gameplay doesn’t stagnate from having 100 people that don’t move and can’t engage each other under 30m. For the same reason, they have a rule that an M4 with a box mag is not a support weapon for games where support guns are allowed automatic fire where anything else is semi-only. For the ranges we engage at, even .22 is a realistic “DMR” caliber If you have a pew that’s capable of full auto and outputs higher than 350/0.2, you’re technically in possession of a firearm from a legal standpoint.1 point

As you have changed the barrel I'd start by checking the air seal of the hop rubber to the barrel and into the hop unit. If any seals a bleeding air then you'll be dropping the fps. Then ehen you reassemble make sure the barrel and hop unit are pushing back to seat on the nozzle correctly.1 point -

Evening. Barrel length isn't that important in airsoft. I've got an MP5K with an M100 spring shooting at 1.04J through a 110mm barrel, and an M4 which hit 1.3J (oops) from M100 and 229mm (I dropped to an M90). The secret is air seal. Your G&G looks like it's got decent parts, like a double o-ring nozzle and cylinder head. But the rubber can dry out and deteriorate, and airsoft quality control is pretty random. Ideally I'd suggest opening your gearbox, lubing all the o-rings, and stretching the piston o-ring. That's easy enough to do, you just get it off the piston head, stretch it over the cylinder, and heat it up with a lighter or other heat source. If you're wary about doing that, the quick bodge is to split the receiver and get some silicone lube (oil or spray) into the nozzle so that it ends up inside the cylinder. Swish it around, give it some time to work into the o-rings, then give it blast on auto before you put it back together so that it blows the excess out the nozzle rather than into your hop rubber. The other easy thing to check is your hop rubber, which might have dried out and be giving a bad air seal. They're cheap enough to replace (Maple Leaf rubbers are great) or you could lube it with silicone oil or spray and see if that perks it up. It's actually fine to get silicone inside the rubber, just clean it out afterwards. You might get a few wild rounds but it'll soon settle down.1 point -
My home site runs red right blue left as well but even with the marshals shouting this out at start of day you STILL get players that put them on the wrong arm ! Now if I’m unsure who a player is but I’m leaning more towards the other team I fire first and don’t ask questions ! 😈1 point

This is why I like dead rags and really do advocate their use. Last game I went to I didnt take a dead rag and noticed a huge difference with getting shot while walking back to spawn. it seems that even though they are not used people recognise what the red rag means and its a hell of a lot easier to positively ID someone you know is out of the game. This goes onto my next point. arm bands, I sat looking at one dude for ages because i couldn't see his other arm and was unsure if i had flanked enemy or a friendly was pushed up with me. I didnt shoot for fear of taking out a friendly but I did end up getting lit up while I was trying to figue it out. Id love to see more sites use the opposite arm rule to help identify players.1 point

Rogerborg reacted to Speedbird_666 for a topic
@Rogerborg If you have any problems with the GB shell, I have barely-used spare if you need it just for the cost of postage - I wont ever use it myself. The Edge I have came with a dual O-Ring piston with bearing. I don't rate it though - the second O-ring means that there's quite a bit more friction on the piston's rearward-stroke compared to something simpler (such as the GearParts POM Head from AK2M4). I'm not a fan of metal piston heads in general though TBH. Perfect airseal with a change of Piston and Cylinder O-Rings though. My (or I should say my Son's) gun had no grease nor shims, burred cylinder, rough GB casting (which I polished-out) and a collapsed bearing after a few hundred rounds. I was chasing issues since with the GB (inconsistent Semi, dodgy Mosfet) and in the end it was easier and more cost effective to replace the GB completely. But this gun was purchased a good 18mths ago and was one of those 'cursed' batches with little to no QC. I keep being reassured that the issues have largely been rectified with subsequent batches and the gun is 'safe' to purchase, but I still struggle to recommend the Edge Series as a first gun for anyone at the moment. I saw the £140 model and have been tempted to get one to try out, but I've become a bit of an ICS fanboi so I'm saving my pennies for another one of those instead1 point -

Carried out some changes to my 10.3" URGI-1 over the last few weeks. Some because I simply fancied a change but others because I have taken some things I like from my MRE build and wanted to transfer them onto this much modern rifle. I was going to swap out the front end entirely and build up an 11.5" barrel complete with a Geissele MK4 rail. But I just love the compactness of the 10.3" and I know its a very common rail in the safe zone, but the URGI is just fantastic and it would take something pretty special to beat it IMO, in terms of its slim profile and ergonomics. So the 4 prong SF Flash Hider has gone in favour for a SF closed-tine. Think of it like a modern day bird cage flash hider. (Both made by Angry Gun) The Magpul hand stop has been replaced with a TrueNorth Concepts Handstop-K a much smaller profile and takes advantage of the slim design of the urgi rail. Having really missed the ambi fire selector fitted to my MRE I wanted the same on the urgi albeit a little more modern. So enter the PTS Radian Talon ambi selector, which is very well made and offers solid/precise manipulation. I was so impressed with the PTS fire selector I coupled it with their licensed version of the Radian Raptor-LT charging handle. I love the vertical shooting position of the Magpul MOE K2 Pistol Grip, but prefer the rubber grip that the Hogue offers on my MRE. Luckily Magpul make the 'K2+' which is an overmolded grip with rubber, giving me the best of both worlds. I've now fitted a Angry Gun Milspec buffer tube as it has worked flawlessly on my MRE and takes out any slop with genuine stocks. This has been followed with a SixG HSB to improve single shot performance, I've tested it and it works very well indeed. Looking forward to testing it further in game! Lastly as much as I'm a fan of the small form factor of the Magpul MOE SL-K, I just miss shouldering a rifle with a CTR fitted. Let's be honest that stock suits any build even if its been around for a while now! A Magpul enhanced magazine release, and Magpul ODG magazine pulls are also on route... Thanks for reading my update, another post from a geardo/geek!1 point
