Missing Links in Airsoft?
Ebeneezer Goode and 2 others reacted to FreeFrag.UK for a topic
Wishlist. At the moment I'd love to see a return of a decent line of FAL's, specifically an L1A1 SLR. If the Ares was half the price then I'd probably grab it simply due to a lack of options but given the plethora of known issues it's a firm pass. Admittedly I wouldn't mind picking up an M-16A2 but these seem nigh impossible to find, especially with trades. I'd love to see a GPMG/FN Mag but if I'm being completely honest I probably wouldn't buy one myself. I'd like to see a decent Browning Hi-Power but based on the most recent WE Hi-Power Mk.3 I suspect it's another case of keep on dreaming. I can think of a few other hand guns I wouldn't mind seeing (be it due to them not being produced or due to wanting to see it from a better manufacturer) such as a Tokyo Marui Sig P228 or P229. Beyond that the main stuff on my wishlist would be accessories such as an LLM 03 (maybe we'll see one from Element in the not so distant future?) or the accessories required to throw together late 80's to early 2000's impression kits. That's not to say that these accessories can't be found, at least the early 2000's stuff, but it is very challenging to find at times. I'd also like to see the UGL front end for the L85 re-released, even if it came from Angry Gun (think it's AG) who currently make the RIS for the L85 platform. The boring stuff. I think part of the issue is that as soon as you start to stray out of the immediate realms of your average Nato/Russian grunt or "Tier 1" Operator then options start to diminish rather rapidly. While there is certainly a demand for airsoft kit that falls outside of the last 10 - 20 years of usage, this demand seems to diminish rapidly as you move further back across the years and/or as you move progressively further away from the big NATO countries and Russia in terms of armaments. Thus creating products outside of this range gradually increases the likelihood of incurring a loss. I think some other major issues worth considering are clashes in terms of trademarks, design copyright, import/export issues and distributors. Another growing trend in recent years is the seeming increase in various unnamed companies pursuing the purchase of licensing rights which in turn only further hampers things, be it through companies facing potential lawsuits or due to inferior products at a premium price all for the sake of a name. I'd also argue companies such as Nuprol are a major issue in the UK/Euro market at the moment as they seem to be causing significant price hikes while simultaneously throttling supply.3 points -
265fps on a M100 Spring
Lozart and 2 others reacted to James Baker for a topic
That's very kind of you. I have a few spare springs....and have now solved the problem! I put a bigger spring in the gun, that got 370 in my masada, still got 300 in the 416....so as it turns out... The issue was the ported cylinder! The stock cylinder has a port at 4/5s ( my guess). I didn't consider that to be the limit with a 275mm inner barrel...and I was wrong! Just put a full cylinder in there. 360fps now! What a roller coaster!3 points -

Back home from work trip away, new sight and speedloader arrived. Soon as the kids were in bed, bunged it onto the 933 😄 happy with the result, however too knackered from work to try it out tonight. Some fun this weekend practicing in the garden to zero it. Added the rubber jibber/bayonet for a bit of old skool effect. Not sure if I'll skirmish with it mounted but will have it on my vest as a SHTF/superCQB backup. I'd imagine it's a typo, 5mW (milliwatt - typical laser e.r.p., 5MW (megawatt) is Sci-Fi weapon territory and would fry whatever it was pointed at...) Sounds about right. Still if be careful. Used to work with lasers in a previous job, as a private pilot I've known plenty of private and professional colleagues who've been Lasered by some fucking twat at night and nearly blinded - a couple of mW is enough - bloody dangerous to your eyes if not careful. I personally feel uncomfortable with others pointing them about the field, and would never fit one to my RIF. Just my opinion...1 point -
Aeg Assault Rifles?
Ebeneezer Goode reacted to EDcase for a topic
You should concentrate on good eye protection. Search the forum for threads about best eyepro. Ankle support boots are important too as twisted ankles are the most common injuries. Army surplus is good for that. Classifieds on afuk are generally safe but check the history of the seller. As far as selling you a realistic imitation firearm (RIF), it depends on the seller. They can legally sell you one if you can convince them that you will use it for airsoft properly. As Adolf Hamster said, you should really rent for you first 3 games to get a feel for the game and get UKARA registered. You may change your mind about the kind of gun you want.1 point -
Aeg Assault Rifles?

as much as we all know the excitement of wanting to get yourself setup, why not wait a bit? keep saving, wait for sites to re-open, do your games to get ukara and have a bigger budget to have some fun with?1 point -
Sight Recommendations
Zitch reacted to Adolf Hamster for a topic
tbh, red dot. the main thing magnification is useful for in airsoft is shot-tracking, but if you've got the gun dialed in and are shooting at an honest target you can do anything at airsoft ranges with no magnification. how are you planning on mounting? siderail ris/top cover or gas block?1 point -
Aeg Assault Rifles?
Ebeneezer Goode reacted to Adolf Hamster for a topic
as @Shamal suggests it's probably gonna be a stretch to get something new and get attatchments. first things first- have you played to get ukara etc? because that's gonna affect your options (fewer 2-tones going through the classifieds) next is have you any equipment already? things like eye-pro, batteries, chargers etc or are you trying to get a full starter package for that budget? i'd suggest forgetting about attatchments initially, easy enough to pick up things like scopes/flashlights/grips etc cheap off the classifieds as and when they pop up.1 point -

@GAMBLEpretty much hit the nail on the head. I started airsoft around the same time as your 14 year old and the best way to start is just bring some friends that may be interested. For me, it was one of my friends in school who introduced me to it, then it expanded to a group of 4 of us and eventually all four of us ended up joining up with a team. That beind said, you don't need a team in airsoft, at least not from a formal perspective. What will probably happen is your 14 year old will bring friends and/or make new friends at the local airsoft site and hang out/ work together with them through a skirmish day.1 point

Couple of key things here with batteries. 1. LiPos should never be fully discharges so using their full capacity in any calculations is not good. Aim for half to have a long life. 2. The issue is not the wrong battery. Don't just get a bigger battery. You need to find out why you have an excessive current draw.1 point

Eye Wear for Glasses Wearer

+1 for contact lenses. Admittedly I've worn them for almost 20 years however for airsoft I'd be utterly knackered if I had to rely on my glasses.1 point -

Missing Links in Airsoft?
FreeFrag.UK reacted to Ebeneezer Goode for a topic
Great post, and sums up the frustrations many feel I think. Firstly, forgive the rant - currently stuck on a very remote wet and windy Scottish island (key worker for my sins) and rather hacked off with Corona and our beloved Scottish and UK Governments trying to out-North Korea North Korea in terms of continual removal of freedoms... I'm a total newcomer to airsoft, so I'm not sure how many of these issues are due to Corona/Brexit. Considering a large bulk of airsoft gear is Made In Covidland and much is probably imported via the EU I'd imagine there is some impact. However, as a newcomer I'm genuinely shocked at the total lack of availability of stock generally among airsoft retailers in the UK. Without wanting to brag I have a number of very niche hobbies - aviation, motorcycling, music, assorted outdoor stuff like kayaking/fishing/hillwalking/camping), airsoft also being very niche, however none seem to have the ongoing chronic supply issues that airsoft retailers have. Various retailer websites are filled with good-looking RIFs, most of which (well over 50%) are continuously labelled "Out Of Stock". Interesting stuff (i.e anything non-M4 - AKs, G36s, Sci-Fi, other platforms like bullpups, G3s etc.) is utterly non-existent. Electric Pistols are particularly badly affected, there's a glut of gas stuff but the electric models are never in-stock, ever. I'm fully aware that the laws of supply and demand are at play here, the MTP-clad M4 or AK wielder being almost an airsoft cliche (not having a go at anyone, purely an observation - wear/use what you want IMO!) however the supply of airsoft RIFs is, to quote a popular Scots expression, pish-poor. So, to sum up, my wish would either be 1) acceptable and accessible stock availability, or 2) airsoft retailers stop tempting us with non-existent stock... if its OOS then remove it from the site!1 point -

Well, since I had a few springs lying around I finally decided to making a spring power measuring device... Using a luggage scale you hold and pull on the orange hose fitting up to the orange line (piston length). The scale holds the measurement so you can read it when it beeps. Takes a few goes to get an average reading but I compared readings of known spring strengths with a friend who uses a slightly different method and our readings do correlate. I will try to find an M10 bolt that only has threading at the top to make the pull smoother.1 point

Sierra's alright, been a while since I've been; Very dark in places and very tight. I'm gutted that Squad assault in Burslem closed; was at the old pottery place on Bournes Bank near the snooker/pool place. Theres a paintball site in Madeley as well that sometimes has airsoft events (unreal paintball maybe) that's good too.1 point

The arrival of my Ferro Mini Dangler and Crye Stretch Flap sees both of my chest rigs finished (at least for now). The AirLite is set up for when I’m running an AR or AK74, the Microfight is setup for running pistol only in CQB or my VSR (turns out Spiritus Pistol inserts take VSR mags pretty nicely). And a Vortex Crossfire, pair of NGRS mags and a Laylax NGRS wrench for my birthday from my long suffering girlfriend.1 point

Hey, I just wanted to report that I managed to get the SAA mags leak free by merging the two halfs with steel araldite. The o ring was removed, contact surfaces roughened and the rod removed. The side body screw which holds the rod was set in place with araldite. Whereas the bottom threads were blocked with a cross threaded screw + araldite. All contact surfaces were oil free and treated with spirits before the araldite treatment. The mag in question was filled with gas sometime in November 2020 and has had no leaks since. A bit of a job to get it done but nevertheless, might be worth the effort or a fitting lockdown activity to some.1 point -
Well, i decided "fuck it, whats another £170-odd on my credit card" and bought myself an S&T M320 grenade launcher. Mounted it on my tippmann via a set of m-lok to picatinny rail adapters i bought a couple of months ago. I did find that the launcher had a lot of wobble on the rails, so i found a pair of screws in my toolbox at work and used them to pin the launcher... just need to trim them down a few mm and paint them black so they dont stand out. Edit. also set up an account with enola gaye, and will be ordering some pyro from them next week1 point
