How old is to old
SussexMatt and 5 others reacted to MadMole for a topic
58 here. With age comes wisdom. You dont need to run around like a teenager when you can out strategy them We play shoot em ups on the PC every Tuesday, us oldies, our sons and grandkids, they thrash us every week with their better reactions. So we took the youngsters to play airsoft. They were slaughtered!!, unfit, no tactics, not used to carrying a weight (a rifle is not like a mouse or game controller). In short it was a bit of a shock to them and great merryment was had by the dads6 points -

I did some running yesterday, took out a sniper by just running at him firing (semi auto not hozing) once I was inside his MED he was toast 🤣 Then in the next game I scored a bang kill with my 249 by spinting around some cover to take out a lad who had us pinned down, spotted his mate a bit further away and lit him up . Some of my Old Git mates aren't talking to me now 'cos of the running thing 😭😂2 points

Most efficient storage for rifles in a Studio flat.

Tackle and one other reacted to clumpyedge for a topic
Personally for me and depending on budget I would look at everything people have suggested however there are a couple of options people haven't mentioned. Peli make multi rifle lock boxes (this is a very expensive route) see the multi rifle case - this was just for reference but other models would accommodate 5 or 6 rifles. 5.11 also make the CAMS bag that has double or triple rifle (depending on the dimensions of the guns) underneath the main compartment. The main compartment has removable inserts to make it differing sizes which could potentially hold all of your surplus gear as well. This is also somewhat lockable if you use a few padlocks on the zips. This is also the better option in terms of footprint. 5.11 also make the SOMS (some of my shit) which is the smaller of the variant and without the under bag storage (I currently own a SOMS and its great for storing all my stuff minus guns and takes up the space on top of my wardrobe, if I organised it a bit better I could fit all my gear, my M4 and my MK46 in - Alas I am lazy). The CAMS or SOMS are a lot less conspicuous in terms of storage but also allow for better transport as they are both wheeled with extendable travel handle. Peli (or other rebrand) also have travel handles which would be useful for peace of mind if traveling to games that you aren't leaving your stuff at home. Looking at your list of guns the CAMS would easily store them all plus your gear (depending how much stuff you have obviously)2 points -

If I were hoping that someone might pay me eighteen hundred pounds for a toy gun and a sight that won't make it any more accurate than the cheapest Chinesium red dot at airsoft ranges with airsoft accuracy, I reckon I'd make a bit of an effort to come across as a reasonable chap who would be a pleasure do to business with. Re-spraying two-tone with vinyl dye rather than plain old spray paint
Rogerborg and one other reacted to mightyjebus for a topic
I used RIT dye to change some AK Mags and furniture from Black to Plum. It worked really well and I ended up with a Mid life Plum AK74. You could do the same using Black and it might take more than 1 application to get it completely back but worth a shot. It's a bit messy (hot water with the dye and leave to soak for 20 mins if I remeber correctly).2 points -

West London newbie reporting in
GAMBLE reacted to Pseudotectonic for a topic
Got interested a few months ago but have not played a game yet. Mainly interested in the game play and tech side of things. Spent many hours watching Youtube videos and researching about gear boxes etc. Now wants to get a two-tone and do a budget build before first game. Also putting together a basic kit, already got eye-pro and pair of boots. Not high on budget so is after a simple kit that works well and is fun to play and tinker with, and easy to transport. Now I am based in west London and can only use public transport, Red 1 Chislehurst is around 1 hr 45 mins from me and seems to be a good site judging by reviews etc so I am thinking of going there to do my UKARA and do regular games afterwards. My biggest problem now is how do I lug my stuff around on the Tube and buses easily and without drawing attention? I don't imagine a backpack will be big enough and I would rather have everything on wheels so I don't exhaust myself before even reaching the site. Are wheeled duffel bags good? Any tips and tricks? Much thanks.1 point -

I tried the Madbull and AI metal adapters and never got them to work even with o-ring mod. Some people found the plastic AI adapters worked better. Unfortunately AI are no more so don’t know what a good choice would be. With ASG Ultrair being on offer and propane prices rising quite a bit I wasn’t going to save much if anything.1 point -

Hi @Pseudotectonic welcome to the asylum.🙂 Get yourself a padded rifle bag with lots of pockets and one that can be worn on back. You will find it fairly comfortable and can easily be slipped of and put between legs when on tube or bus and as far as anyone knows it could be holding a guitar or sports equipment. take a look on eBay or in the classifieds on this forum. if you want tips on gear and game play then I would advise to check out our very own @GAMBLEhe has a tube channel which will give you lots of advice on gear and gameplay. have fun, enjoy and call your hits! 👍 regards1 point

The 'How Did Your Airsoft Day Go? Thread
Tactical Pith Helmet reacted to Impulse for a topic
Had a really interesting one this weekend. I mostly went to set up all my guns for AI500, as there's a BB weight limit of .28 and I won't be a cheater even though I suspect there will be other people breaking that rule. I set up my HK45 first, as I only had the two pistols with me and I didn't want to use the mk23 (which I was also going to set up for .28s for AI500), but I made the decision to also bring my KJW m700 to test. I wasn't expecting it to be great, as I've never used it and it was the first time I had taken it to the range. I thought it would chrono at 2J+ and then... it didn't. It was 1.5J on green gas and sending .48s into the sky. So I figured, "why not try 144a and see if I can get it under 1.1J? Maybe that'll also stop it sending the .48s into the sky" and as it turned out I was totally right. With the hop basically off and 144a now in the mag, it chronoed at 1J on the money with very low variance on a warm magazine that I kept in my pocket to make sure it didn't creep up in the midday sun. Lowest was 1.005 and highest was 1.009. Furthermore, it was sending the BBs out further than any of my other 1J builds, thanks in part because it was flinging .48s where my other 1J builds tend to be .32s or .4s at most. Was accurately hitting the 60m target with ease, and could even hit the 75m with some rifle tilting, so I decided that the VSR, which I had taken as the gun I was going to use, wouldn't even come out of the bag, all my HPA stuff remaining in the bags with it. Taking it out into the game it was clear it's going to need bedding in. The shots were consistent and accurate enough, but some of the shots would hop more and some would hop less every so often, but I'm not going to take it to the range and feed .48s through it for the sake of bedding it in because .48s are pricey! Managed to fit 3 mags total (2 in the belt, 1 in the gun), so I had a total of 84 shots which I managed to last all morning, going through about half of them. I absolutely loved it and will be using it for the foreseeable future as my main bolt action. Everyone says gas is crap for snipers, but damn this build proves naysayers wrong. No MED, can hit 75m as long as you know how much tilt you need. Also, the rifle wrap I use works amazingly well on it, since the magazine is where it should be and the wrap is designed for real rifles, unlike the VSR where the magazine is further forward than it should be because of how a sprig sniper works. I'm so happy with its performance. I didn't expect too much, because my HPA VSR was my magnum opus of bolt actions, but now it has competition!1 point -
That looks rather peculiar. So, is this being sold by KoA? Like, retail, with a warranty? Or is a customer gun that still there and he doesn't want / can't afford it, and they're happy to sell it on his behalf? I'm almost interested enough to ask.1 point

I still find it very strange that no other companies have made a HP-MK3 considering how ubiquitous it was. But there are endless variations of less iconic pistols.1 point

Ak v3 nozzle change how easy is it to do?
Tactical Pith Helmet reacted to Randymanpipe for a topic
Thanks peeps, So, when I took the outer barrel end off (outer 2 parts) there was the smallest amount of wiggle play with the inner barrel like 0.5mm all round. I have wedged a tiny rubber O-ring in around the outside of the inner which now holds it rock solid. Will test again later and see if that has remedied, if not I'm guessing the next easiest fix would be to buy and fit an inner barrel that actually reaches the end of the outer barrel. Current is about 150mm short!1 point -
Ak v3 nozzle change how easy is it to do?
Randymanpipe reacted to Adolf Hamster for a topic
Sounds like a strong candidate. Certainly dramatic fliers left/right are most typically the bb striking something on the way out. Packing the inner to stop it wobbling in the outer might stop this (if the alignment is right might need packed a specific direction), and generally not a bad idea for accuracy anyway.1 point -
So, it's been a while but I'm done with holidays and the kids are back in school and I've finally had a chance to play. I ordered this stuff https://www.vinyldye.co.uk/All-Vinyl-Dye-Color-Sprays/TRG-Vinyl-Dye-Spray-Paint/Black-Vinyl-Dye-Plastic-Paint-By-TRG and a can of the Matt finish clear varnish https://www.vinyldye.co.uk/Matt-Clear-Spray-Varnish The gun is an Umarex Sportline UMP 45 and the upper is made from a blue polymer, rather than just a black one that has been sprayed. I stripped the gun and took all parts off the upper so it was just a bare polymer shell, then gave it a light sanding all over with a 400 grit wet and dry paper. After sanding I rinsed it off with warm water and an old tooth brush and then gave it a final wipe over with isopropyl alcohol (99%). I applied the black dye in several very light coats (maybe 5 or 6). building it up with 10-20 minutes drying time between coats. Once full coverage was achieved I left it for 2 days. The finish at this point was excellent, with no pooling in markings, and the original texture of the polymer surface was preserved. the colour was an excellent solid black, but the finish was noticeably gloss. After a couple of days to make sure it was well cured, I applied the matt finish today. Two light coats with about 10 minutes between. After letting it dry the finish was a very good match for the black polymer of the lower and the black folding stock. I would say on very close inspection you can notice a very slight difference between the original black parts and the re-sprayed upper but overall the results are excellent. I believe that it may just be a case of adding a final application of the matt finish, but I've got a good result as is, so I'm not going to risk going to far. The only minor issue I found was that I accidentally sprayed too heavily in one isolated area and the finish dried cloudy in that one area. Once it was no longer tacky to touch, I put little olive oil on a paper towel and buffed the cloudy area and it want back to black. Further buffing with an oil free towel removed the shine from the oil, but the cloudy effect did not return. I think this trick would not save the finish if you applied too heavily all over , but in limited areas that are just a bit to heavily coated it seems to work well to save the overall finish. I'll put some photos up when the varnish coat has also had a day or two to harden and I've re-assembled the gun.1 point

RPK inner barrels are often a fair bit shorter than the outer. The slightest misalignment can be amplified by the length. If removing the flash hider helped, I'd guess misalignment.1 point -

Check for shorts but it's likely the mosfet is fried if its been smoking. The link you posted took me a set for a v3 gear box, the arp is a v2 gear box so that product won't work. If the etu is OK, then the mosfet replacement should be all that's needed, I'd not look at the g&g unit nut instead look for the perun mosfets. They do a plug in upgrade unit that is very good. Etu++ I think it's called.1 point -
Seems to me like you may have a short somewhere. I've never know batteries to 'spark' when connecting. 🤔 Check all the wiring for worn or bad insulation. Regards1 point

Sorry to hear that. Did she find the receipts? (Too soon?) I'm not clear on what your priorities are. "Not on show" and "not too messy" sounds like you want them inside some sort of structure, rather than just bin bags and a tie-down strap holding them together. Do you care if it's secure? Are you after something more, or less, complicated than a Björk cupboard from Ikea?1 point

Weathering - Yes or No? and How hard is it?
clumpyedge reacted to MadMole for a topic
I spray a bit of chrome silver paint onto a sheet of paper and lightly dab one of those kitchen sponges (small square with green scrubber on back) on the paint, then lightly brush the corners and wear points on the Rif with it. you can use the yellow side for full wear and the green fuzzy side for leas heavy wear Looks just like wear, but you can take it off if you do it wrong and looks less artificial than wire wool scratches, and it works fine on plastic TM's1 point -

It's why I gave up historic re-enactment. The groups I was in were always trending towards "professionalism", i.e. committing to providing clients with more numbers, bigger living history displays, and showier arena performances. It got to the point where we were prepping and loading vans days before big events, and staying on after weekends to tear down, as the chap running each group tried to turn it into a career. Me, I just wanted to eat hog roasts and swing swords. Airsoft needs more hog roasts!1 point

Ak v3 nozzle change how easy is it to do?
Rogerborg reacted to Adolf Hamster for a topic
As with any gearbox keep a good track of shims when taking it apart, then you wont need to re shim. The hardest part of a v3 (especially one with a qd mainspring) is getting the trigger in, i advise taking care when popping the halves to ensure it stays in the bottom half, hopefully it should stay put and you wont have to mess with it. Otherwise once its split changing the nozzle is no different to any other box. As @Skara says the cu nozzle should be a little tight on the cylinder head because of the sealing o ring, as long as it still moves ok under spring tension (a little grease around the cylinder head tube on installation helps) then it's a good thing as it'll boost the air seal and hence performance.1 point -
V3 gearboxes are a pleasure to work with, swapping a nozzle is a relatively simple task. Take pictures of everything you do so you can backtrack when reassembling (or when you don't know where X bit goes), also be aware that the combat union nozzle is *TIGHT* against the cylinder head, doesn't affect performance but might be annoying.1 point
