England vs Scotland at Stirling Airsoft
Guardsman394 and 2 others reacted to GeorgePlaysAirsoft for a topic
i went to stirlings 'themed' game at catterick last month. i think jacobs post has it covered, though i will add: from my sole experience i wouldnt expect you to be sleeping in game as its from 11-11 sat with a break overnight with a few hours on sunday ending at 11. cant remember if it was game on at 8 or 9. i slept in one of the aforementioned barns. i didn't see anyone with a tent,i dont see why you would need one, and i didnt see an obvious place where you put one. everything i needed to play with i had on me: loose bbs, spare batteries, water and snacks. there were 2 respawns in play and which one we used was dependent on the objective we had at the time. everything else i had in the car which was easily accessible. thats where i had my lunch and dinner. bring absolutely everything on the kit list and that does include a pen and paper as we were given our objective location and timings all at once, and quickly.3 points -

Welcome to the forum and airsoft, you will love it, it's great fun and a chance to met some really nice people. We just played at Skirmish Billiericay site for the first time this weekend and it's a great site with a good mix of game types and is well marshalled. They also have a great selection of kit and accessories onsite to hire or buy so you shouldn't need to worry about gear for your first game, other than a some decent foot ware with ankle supp if possible? On the whole once the games get going everyone is really friendly and up for in game banter and laughs without taking it all too seriously.3 points

Welcome to the forum and to a hobby that will occupy a lot of your thoughts and loads of your bank balance. As others have said, airsofters are generally a very welcoming and friendly bunch. Everyone has been the noob at some point, and even now going to a new site can bring back that same feeling. The main thing to remember is that everyone there has a common interest, so you've got a natural start point to strike up a conversation. Airsofters also love showing off their gear and most will happily pass on their experiences, tips and advice to make sure you enjoy your day and want to come back. As for fitness/experience, don't worry about it. Play your own game until you're comfortable and confident enough to step things up. Additional cardio exercises will help as you progress, and, because there's a lot of crouching and ducking behind objects, get some stretches and leg exercises in. Yoga is awesome for easing the effects of Elvis leg the day after a game, especially for those of us built more for comfort than for speed. Above all, have fun. Keep jumping into the forum as there is loads of helpful advice here, and don't be afraid to ask questions.3 points

Wow, that's a weird one. I mean, he has actually modified it rather than just chucking a bucking in, but he's ended up with a gun that's too weak for woodland, and too auto for CQB. However, I think my favourite bit is posting a video of a different gun.3 points

helmet mounted Howard leight ear pro
MagpieTactical and one other reacted to ghostwalker for a topic
So in an attempt to take a little pressure off of my head when wearing my ear pro and helmet, i found the combination was pressing on my temples and giving me head aches and making my ears hurt like hell from the head band being pressed down by the helmet. A few Google searches and armed with some knowledge and no skill I decided to 'modify' my Howard leight ear pro to be helmet mounted. To clarify they are out of warranty as this would invalidated it and its also pretty darn permanent. So here it is before hand.. helmet, ear pro and some earmore exfil mounts. So.. After cutting the leather headband and carefully avoiding the wires. Then using a dremmel to cut the metal wire mounts, I removed the headband then twisted the remaining wire mounts and removed them from the ear cups. Inserted the wire mounts on the earmore attachments into the ear cups, mounted them to the rails on my exfil and ran the wire under the helmet cover. All still works they have enough flex to be stored up or down for use. Simple enough for even me to do.2 points -

I did see in the youtube videos that most of the helmet mount arms are ever so slightly thinner. But on mine they are tight enough to stop the cups just sliding off. You could possible use a thin layer of electrical tape to thicken the stems. The other thing and I know as I did it myself is to make sure the plastic arms on the side of the ear cups are the right way up. I put one side the wrong way up the metal arms just slipped straight out.2 points -
go at your own pace. go light weight with gear and make sure you have good boots with ankle support.2 points

So i'm going to my first ever battle-sim which is zombie themed (halloween I guess) and the game plan looks pretty fun, there is even prizes for best kills etc. I haven't played in a long time so i'm going to get shot to sh*t but it's all fun and for a good cause so what's not to like? If anyone else is interested in going its based near Richmond (N.Yorkshire) and all proceedings will be donated to 'the army benevolent fund'. link below to their Facebook advert or google Adrenalin Airsoft and give them a call to enquire. https://www.facebook.com/events/380456973783297 (Just thought I'd mention that I have no ties with this site what so ever and this will be my first time playing there)2 points

England vs Scotland at Stirling Airsoft
Rogerborg and one other reacted to Jacob Wright for a topic
So, England v Scotland is a different kettle of fish to all the rest of Stirling’s events; it’s basically one long skirmish. You drop your kit in one of two accommodation areas when you arrive and that’s where it stays. You can go back there to cook or rest if needed, although there’s normally a guy doing hot food in the main safe zone. You can take spare ammo and whatever you want out with you. Unless it’s changed, the weekend will be chasing after points based objectives (hold building x at x time to score 100 points) and normally runs from 1100-2300 on the Saturday and then 0800-1300 on the Sunday (my timings may be out but you get the idea). If you’re not interested in doing the set objectives then it’s probably not for you, it’s a fast paced weekend where the idea is simply to get points and win. When I went lots of people turned up and gave up in the first 6 hours because they got bored of assaulting/holding buildings and thought it would be more Milsim. I really enjoyed it, and Catterick is a mint site. My advice; - Bring pyro and plenty of ammo - Be prepared to be out continuously to smash the objectives2 points -
No one is going to care if you are husky at an Airsoft game. Yes, you might get a few comments, but that's going to be the same in pretty much any situation you will find yourself in. Nothing can be done about that and needs to be risen above. As long as you get stuck in and take your hits, you will find new friends. Simple as that really. Side note, most of us are rocking dad bods anyway. We aren't all chizzled action heroes2 points

Chest Rig Vs Plate Carrier?
lokkers and one other reacted to MagpieTactical for a topic
Viper VX buckle up chest rig with a dangler pouch, with an FRV Tailoring shooters belt. 3 x 200rd midcaps in rig, underwing pouch for the radio if using it. Speedloader and bbs in a bag that stays at the respawn for each game. Belt has pistol, spare pistol mag, 140 round midcap for speed reloads, Dynatex impact grenade, dump pouch, knife and a medium utility pouch which usually has a spare battery, revision wipes etc in.2 points -
Being a bit over dramatic there aren’t we ? Give it a good clean some rattle can black and I’m sure you can offload it on to some chump , oops sorry I ment I’m sure you could sell it on to a discerning fellow airsofter ? 😉2 points

Read your post and might show up for this myself! There is a kit list. Stick to it and you'll be fine. It does say that you will be in an unheated barn unless you pay an extra fiver for barrack access. TBH with the current 'Rona situation I would just rely on the tent. If it's a decent tent it doesn't matter where it's put up. Usually you dump your camping kit at the camping site/area and only carry your game kit in game. I do as many of these types of event as I can each year. Stick to the guidelines and don't be afraid to ask what to do/where to go when you get there. If you arrive in good time you'll be fine. I take a rucksack for the hard respawn with 7 or 8 litres of water, that days food, waterproofs, spare ammo, spare batteries etc. Saves a walk back to the camping area if you need something. Take whatever you think you may need the first few events and discard as you get to know what you really need is a good idea.2 points -

Double Eagle M904g – Aka the Original Q Honey Badger

There are M4 and pdw stock variants then polymer and metal versions of the same guns. I love my 904g, 229mm zci barrel, maple leaf bucking and omega nub from ak2m4 made a big difference.1 point -
It does sound like its not filling properly. How did you purge it? Its quite normal for GBBs to vent as they use the last bit of gas when there isn't enough pressure to close the valve. Don't use WD40 except for cleaning things as its more of a de-greasant than lubricant. Take out the valves and soak in silicone oil. Check O-rings and replace if you can. (Spare generic O-ring packs are available) Worst case, you can also try to find a replacement output valve. I think KJW might be compatible but best to check that. Take apart the piston and clean it up. (Its not very difficult) Ragged nozzle indicates it hasn't been feeding well but shouldn't affect actual firing. Check the Hop rubber hasn't been damaged. For everyone I'd advise getting some fill valve O-rings, also known as silent fill O-rings. They fit into the outer fill valve and prevent any leaking while filling. You can find them in airsoft supplies but THESE are the same for a lot less money.1 point

Double Eagle M904g – Aka the Original Q Honey Badger
RostokMcSpoons reacted to mightyjebus for a topic
al DE's are the same motor, gearbox, hop and inner barrel although the inner barrel will vary in length depending on the AEG. So there are no differences and you will be picking the one that you like the look of the best or the addition of metal parts to replace the plastic parts on other models. A longer barrel should give you a small FPS boost which will give a slightly longer range but not much to be honest. Being accurate at longer range is probably more important. it's ok flinging a bb 55m but its no use if its' off target by 2 meters. Using heavier BB's will also give you a range increase. A lot of people on this thread use ZCI barrels and Maple Leaf hop rubbers to get better range but for me the standard barrel with a S hop and .32g BB's has the same effect.1 point -
Or go the other route. Go heavy, loaded plate carrier, belt line, helmet, back pack etc. Rock a support gun with extra ammo. Under your winter BDU's, wrap your entire body in clingfilm and really sweat out those calories.1 point

England vs Scotland at Stirling Airsoft
Rogerborg reacted to Guardsman394 for a topic
I'm looking at attending England vs Scotland and just have a few questions about their events... Sleeping arangements; when are you going to be required to sleep in the field mid game and when will their be a designated sleeping area? When are you going to have to carry all of your kit on you? And where will it be when you don't? This would be my first big event so I know next to nothing about how it'll be run and in my opinion the details given on the website aren't too newbie friendly and seem to be aimed at someone that has done that exact event before. What tips and advice would you give regarding the kit and generally playing at the event? TIA1 point -

I have done this myself (same parts etc) but i used tin snips not dremel to cut down arms. however mine aren't fully retained - you can pull them out. as an interim i have used elastic bands to keep them snug. contemplating glueing them in place but concerned it would mean there is no room for adjustment/error. did i do something wrong? thanks1 point -

I am. you have to use a couple of bits to do it. I use a cheap baofeng radio, this fist mic https://www.amazon.co.uk/EasyTalk-Speaker-Microphone-Portable-Talkies-KMC-17/dp/B0768Y2YSD/ref=sr_1_10?keywords=kenwood+speaker+mic&qid=1581976035&sr=8-10 then a 2.5mm to 3.5mm jack adapter as the fist mic has a 2.5mm hole and the howard leights have a 3.5mm cable. The whole set up works a treat and full credit goes to @SgtTalbert who recommended the leight/fist mic combo to me originally1 point -
I've seen 1 lipo battery spark up when somebody had wired it wrong, luckily it was over a chrono/firing range but it went up well.Seen many bloated batteries but also heard the owners saying "nah it still charges ok" ffs...that includes my tight arse brother,I think I persuaded him to dump them.Mine are kept in my shed at the end of the garden with my fat RC batteries and bike batteries, charged in a bag in there or in the kitchen depending on what I'm doing, always supervised.Education towards proper management is the key IMO.Not directed at anyone in anyway, alas my nephew is about to start playing,I might push hom away from Lipos,it's not something you can rush into.1 point

This is pretty common, but it's a very welcoming environment. We had a thread on this a while back with a really great post covering what to expect in some detail, which can help with social anxiety. So many hugs in that thread. Your fitness / fatness level is neither here nor there. If you can walk, you can play. Heck, folk play in wheelchairs. What I would note is that a couple of hours of actual action every fortnight isn't really going to do much for your health, but it will give you something to train for if you're that way inclined.1 point

Oh! That's a 50 degree, it would be fine for a GBB pistol, but I'd suggest a 70 or 75 for a sniper rifle.1 point

Weather not looking great this weekend - wet weather gear?

I just wore my DPM S95 combat shirt and trousers that was quite warm enough thank you very much. I know exactly what you mean about the sweat 😔😋 I might buy a pair of MTP trousers and base layer long sleeve base layer, and then a combat smock for when the temperature actually drops... Finding Molle kit to go with my current camo is quite hard.1 point -
Hi fella and welcome to the big boys playground.👋 As already said you will love it and airsofters are generally a very friendly bunch willing and eager to impart their knowledge and expertise for free. Nobody will care about how you look, what kit you have or your ability to run a 100yd dash in 10 seconds or take out a whole team before lunch. Get yourself out there and you will soon overcome any shyness and nerves 🙂 Take things at a pace that you find comfortable and after a while I'm sure your fitness levels will improve. I'm no spring chicken and not gonna break any records for agility (I could, however, break hundreds if i sat on them lol) but I pay my money and that means I play as I want to and that way I get more enjoyment without any pressure. Play and have fun👍🙂 Regards Ps.I like a beer as well 😜1 point

RostokMcSpoons reacted to Ebeneezer Goode for a topic
A problem I find with wet Wx gear is breathability. I sweat like a sumo wrestler even in the middle of winter and end up soaking wet under waterproofs which makes them kind of pointless 😅 one layer of clothing is all I can manage even when the temp is hovering around zero. Quick-drying stuff works best in my case. Waterproofs just don't work for this sweaty sock.1 point -

Late contribution but I’m a mahoosive fan of the surplus MTP wet weather gear , you can wear the jacket on its own or under another jacket/shirt/smock it’s that lightweight and the trousers I bought have zips up the outside of the legs so are an absolute doddle to take on and off depending on weather conditions through out the day on site .👍1 point -
Krytac KRISS Vector
Slothface reacted to Crazy_Crystal for a topic
Unfortunately that does sound very sluggish which makes me wonder if there is some cause of additional resistance slowing things down in the gearbox. could be anything from awful shimming, burning out motor or even just low voltage(Flat) batteries so it is probably worth sending to a tech if you're not confident in opening up yourself. someone like Negative airsoft with a good reputation should be able to sort you out. If you do want to go down the mosfet route for precocking a Gate warfet may be an easier option, but whatever is causing this needs to be looked at first really.1 point -

After the MP7 and the HK45, I said I wasn't buying anything else. I would've stuck to it, but I was given an offer I couldn't refuse. £280 for this beast, now I just need the mags to come back in stock somewhere so I can get a bunch of spares, because 35 BBs isn't enough. There are all sorts of systems available with varying complexities in just about any setting (fantasy, historical, science fiction, naval, aircraft, spaceships) and scales from pub punch-ups to Waterloo. The best systems let you concentrate on actual tactics and putting yourself in the position of a commander, while Games Workshop stuff is much more about meta-gaming to exploit an ever changing set of special rules and trick units, then setting up and rolling huge handfuls of dice without much by the way of actual decisions or tactics once you're playing. You can play at home, the problem these days is finding folk near you to play with who are interested in the same settings and systems as you. That's where Games Workshop shines, they have retail shops and run tournaments where you can use the hugely expensive models that they sold you, and God help you if you try and bring anything else. You could jump on... urgh... Facebook and see if there are any Localtown wargaming / tabletop clubs. True that, I once reduced a grown man to tears in a tournament by exploiting the hell out of Epic with a force composed entirely of cheap Scout Marine companies and Thunderhawk dropships (part played by de-bladed Micro Machines Apache helicopters from the local toy shop). He deploys. My whole army is off table. Turn 1, Thunderhawks drop from orbit to any point on table, and deploy swarms of Scouts directly into close combat with his expensive Titans and super-heavies. Then comes the Epic cheese of "Titan stomps on Scouts, next stand is +3, Titan stomps on Scouts, next stand is +6, Titan stomp on Scouts, next stand is +9, wins, reactor hit, boom." Rinse and repeat until by the end of turn 1 he's lost all his big stuff, and he's trembling and choking up and saying "But all you're doing is trading your cheap units for my expensive ones!" Life is hell in the grimdark, chap.1 point -

£30 and up now for some single models. Utterly bonkers. And the resale value of your armies might be close to zero, as it really does seem like GW have a policy of "if it's not the latest version, from the latest Codex, don't bring it to a tournament or shop". Heck, last time I played 40K it was with a box of knock off "Space Rangers" which cost a whopping £10 for a box of 50 at the time. I hit them with a rattle can of white gloss, an ink wash, and a few licks of gunmetal, and was good to go. Now I think GW would take out a restraining order if I brought them within 2 miles of a store. https://em4miniatures.com/products/space-rangers?variant=317840326984861 point -
