This morning with SHS 12:1 gears: So glad I got rid of that annoying whine. I'm putting those spiral gears in everything now.

  5. There is a reason for discharging LIPO's that are not being used. Typically, you charge, use and then if not being used again, you check the voltage and then charge if needed otherwise you can elect to do a storage charge. What this does is stop the collection of oxygen at the anode and lithium ions at the cathode and prevent the lithium oxidising and going nuclear when the lithium oxide causes an internal short. The storage charge prevents this, keeping a cell on full charge and not using it leads to cell degradation early. Remember that you get about 150 to 200 cycles out of a cell, so caring for them is helping keep them in peak condition and able to deliver the currents demanded of them. safely. Capacity of your cell or number of cells do not matter, it happens to all Lithium even 18650''s

  10. All really well said. In my very humble opinion that everyone's more than welcome to disagree with there are some fantastic bargain AEGs to be had in the sub-£150 range. Personally (again, my own view...), I prefer the cheaper guns as they are much lighter (plastic), have less to go wrong (no recoil, MOSFETs, ETUs etc) and many come with a plethora of useful features out the box e.g. rail systems, tightbore barrels, half-decent internal gubbins etc. Plus I can afford them... Changing BB weight can also improve things in outdoor games, accuracy and consistency for one. I've gone to. 25s recently.

    Discharging AEP Lipos?

Hey gang, just wondering how people discharge AEP lipo batteries? My fancy-pants Turnigy 6 Accucel charger hates them, since they charge via the balance lead which my charger dislikes (my charger requires you to plug in the balance lead AND the normal lead). However, storing lipos at full charge is bad and will burn my house down and explode and make the frogs gay and it seems like the chargers that will charge my AEP batteries will not discharge them. How can I make sure I can discharge and store my AEP lipos at the safe voltage levels, since I can't just stick my Turnigy on "storage mode" like I can with my other lipos. Plz halp am scured 😢

  14. I'm pretty chill about lipos in general, but I always keep them at storage voltage when not being used for more than a week or 2 at the most. And I have lipo's that are over 10 years old that work perfectly fine. Things that will reduce the performance and lifespan of a lipo include keeping them at high/full, voltages. In fact, lipos in long distance satelites are never charged to 100% at all. I don't recall the optimal figure, but I believe it's somewhere around the 80% mark. You have to take into account that most of energy stored in a lipo is in the middle range of voltage, say 3.6 - 4.0v. I don't recall exact numbers, but something like 4.0 to 4.2v accounts for something like 5% of storage capacity but 20% of voltage range, and 3.2 - 3.6v accounts for about 5% of total battery capacity. We're not talking about memory effect here, it's just that lipos are not so happy with extremes. That incudes extreme discharge or charge rates (relative to C rating), extreme charge states or internal temperatures. Now most people aren't going to lose sleep over a £10-£20 airsoft battery compared to a 6 cell, 16,000mah lipo costing £180+ or a lipo on a satellite, but a lipo will last longer if charged slowly and not fully charged or kept with a high charge for extended periods. In the real world, an airsoft battery used once a fortnight or so is still going to last a good while; just it will last longer if stored at 3.7 - 3.8v between uses/charge cycles. I've even bored myself now, but to answer the OP question, chargers typically discharge lipos very slowly. I personally have a couple of car bulbs wired in series to discharge lipos faster than a charger will, but still not too high a discharge rate. Airsoft batteries will be fine with a single battery and my rig can split into 2 x single bulb sets for 2-3 cell lipos. Leave a lipo alarm set to around 3.65v and job done.

    Discharging AEP Lipos?

All good chargers require connecting the balance connector AND the main lead. I have an AEP LiPo for the MAC10 and I made an adaptor from the old charger base so I can connect it to the main leads on an IMAX B6. I think discharging to 'Store charge' is more of a concern for larger capacity packs, perhaps 11.1v and higher if unused for months at a time. I've never discharged a 7.4v battery and they are all good according to the meter.

    Discharging AEP Lipos?

Er, I don't, any more than I discharge any other of the many lithium based grenades surrounding me each night, whether airsoft, phone, tablet or laptop. Are we talking these AEP lipos, the drop in replacements for the stock nihms? I guess if you reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally care, you could make a connection between the main battery contacts and the charger power lead. I'm seeing pictures of that Turnigy charger coming with a lead ending in a couple of crocodile clips. If you have that, or can fettle up something similar, you can stick the ends to the battery contacts with magnets - that's how I use my B6 to charge 18650s and similar. Heck, you could do it with a couple of bare wires and a clothes peg to hold them on. That's guaranteed to end in a towering inferno, but then you at least wouldn't have to worry about the potential for that any more.

    Import of a airsoft gun

I know, I know, ask the Firearms section at the Home Office. It's all a bit bonkers when you apply a moment's thought. There are sellers in the UK who will flog you (for example) an SRS with a spring that puts it over 2.5J, i.e. technically an air gun firearm, not an airsoft gun. Strictly speaking, they wouldn't then need a RIF defence for that (but should be following air gun laws, not that they do). But they do need a RIF defence for selling the exact same object with a fractionally less powerful spring in it. Although strictly strictly speaking, because it's not based on a specific real world firearm, it's not actually a RIF at all. Even though by any reasonable-person (non legal) definition it is, and sellers do ask for a defence. Unless the spring inside it puts it over 2.5J. In which case apparently the outside stops looking like a real gun, even though it has now become a real (air) gun. I know, I know... firearms legislation. 🤪

  26. …. And of course all subject to interpretation in court. A Home Office circular can always be removed and no longer be current, or replaced by different interpretation In paintball we have two differing official interpretations: 1) Association of Chief Constables (or whatever it was called at the time) considered that every paintball gun they saw during a visit to a retailer was potentially a RIF. (This retailer didn’t sell bling speedball, but it did include black hopper fed paintball guns) They took no action, but suggested that the retailer ‘do something’ in case they came back formally and went to court. The company created their own membership scheme Therefore you can argue that paintball guns are IFs or RIFs depending on whether then comply with VCRA colours 2) Home Office in response to the UKPSF held that in principle paintball guns are low powered air weapons and therefore not imitations, but with lots of caveats subject to court interpretation and also raised the option that if the VCRA was found to apply then UKPSF membership might be accepted as a defence. The LPAW ‘exemption’ contradicted with airsoft guns as the newer firearms act definition exempting UK legal airsoft from firearms legislation didn’t exist. Now that definition is there then there is a distinction to support LPAW non imitation. All quite grey, and I’m always happy that offenders with dickhead activity get dealt with under other suitable legislation rather than ‘responsible’ players falling foul of a court day turning into a test case. I don’t worry too much about legislative elements - it’s the rug being pulled out in circulars or court interpretations that are more likely to have an impact, which could be sudden

  29. If I was spending £500 tomorrow as a newbie, I would get a Cyma M14 and ask a decent tech to fit a simple 'fet, tightbore and Maple Leaf bucking. IIRC a metal toothed piston is a good idea for one too. You will have a great shooting rifle for around £230 - £250. As the man above says, recoil systems etc are a pain in the nuts. A simple mosfet to protect the titchy trigger contacts on a CYMA is a good idea though I think. The rest I'd spend on decent boots, eyepro and a minimal set of webbing etc. The change I'd spend on satisfying post-game burgers, or possibly Curly Wurlys, with a chance of scotch.

  30. I don't know where you are Osh but Battlestations in Snetterton would suit you I reckon. It's a CQB sight that allows snipers. You can literally command almost the full field from the top of the ship on one field or the gantry in kill city. A site regular may know if I have the names of the features wrong, but I have seen limited mobility players snipe there for the reasons you give. (The 'idea' for the pistol ban came from the Cullen Report 1996 (Itself a response to the Primrose Petition) and was accepted for a bill under Major, it was enacted by the incoming Blair. No fan of either but blame where its due.)

  31. Have you tested the gun with it fully built? It may not be a huge issue. I am running a zci 229mm which seems to be fine however the lips need trimming for reliable feeding. It is also possible your hopup rubber is a anomaly and is a bit different to the rest.

  34. I've got an M904G and seen some of you mention putting maple leaf macaron hop rubbers on the standard barrel, but mine doesn't seem to fit properly. The protruding part on the inside of the rubber doesn't quite fit the cutout in the barrel. When I push the rubber down through the cutout, the wider end of the protrusion catches on the thin piece of barrel between the cutout and the end of the barrel. If I stretch the rubber on to the barrel a bit more it works fine, but the rubber won't stay there on its own. I've measured the thin section of barrel between the cutout and the end at 2mm and I think the clearance between the rubber inner protrusion and the end of the rubber (on the inside) is about 1.5mm. The rubbers are from @ak2m4 so are genuine. Does anyone know whether the rubbers are out of tolerance or is 2mm of barrel section more than normal? I'm also interested to know if the ZCI barrel has a thinner section between cutout and end. Would appreciate any pointers. Airsoft Dad.

  36. True that, 0.28g is the minimum that I use in woodland now. And keep your expectations realistic: no amount of money, or belief, will prevent your BBs being effected by wind, rain, or foliage, and nor will they make your targets just sit still and wait for them. I'm perfectly happy and competitive with AEG toys in the £75-£140 range, plus the aforementioned hop rubbers and barrels. Aftermarket motors add snappiness and rate of fire. After that it's about BBs, getting the hop dialled in, and where you point it. If I were going to spend £500 on an airsoft toy, and the goal was maximum accuracy, i.e. maximum consistency, I'd forget about AEGs and think about trying-then-buying a used HPA package.

  37. Op the best out of the box gun is the one where you spend 2mins removing the upper and swapping out the hop rubber for a maple leaf 50 or 60 and the matching omega nub. This can be done by the most noobie of noobies and requires literally no skill or knowledge of AEG's to achieve. Remove two bolts, lugs. Gently pull upper forwards. Remove hop from barrel, bish bash bosh. You have the most accurate AEG achievable. Personally I would avoid recoils like the plague, they are piss poor power out the box and a whore to work on compared to every other AEG on the market. I would look at a https://www.patrolbase.co.uk/specna-arms-daniel-defense-mk18-sa-e19-edge I got one of these second hand an upgrade the hop and spring in under 5mins. It is as good as my 1k Recoil that I sold because they keep breaking after you up the power and ROF. Really any AEG with the hop upgraded is going to more accurate than any out of the box AEG and it is sooooo simple to do. SO SIMPLE! Don't drink the TM Recoil coolaid.
