Skirmish days will tend towards just that, simple skirmish games. A lot of people go to skirmish days for that brainless video game-esque experience of "hold this area" or "capture that objective". Yes, I call it "brainless", but that's a good thing. Silly skirmish fun is a great time at the end of the day, especially if you have friends at the site and can laugh about the stupid stuff that happens. Sounds like the spawn ideas were awful though and I dislike both teams having the same spawn points. My local site has been trying this idea and a few of us are feeding back that it doesn't work well as it promotes two negative play types: first, it allows you to just walk in the open, get hit, then walk to a spawn point behind the enemy, removing any impact from the stealthy players who would normally spend huge portions of the game simply moving low and slow to avoid detection to get on the flank. Secondly, even if you tell people not to spawn camp, it happens. If you respawn, then 5 mins later a wave of enemies respawn from the same place, you're going to engage them. I've seen my local site has started doing longer games once a month, tending a little more towards the filmsim side, and it has been well received, but I think doing it every week would dissuade a lot of people from attending the site regularly, as sometimes you just want to go to the woods and shoot each other with toy guns without thinking too hard. Variety is the spice of life, and if all I did was narrative filmsim every week, I think I'd get tired of it. If you find skirmish tedious, maybe you should look at attending milsim events, or film/battlesim, or even period airsoft. They're a very different experience to skirmish days; it's not an experience that I'm that keen on (milsim, that is...), but it's another way to experience the airsoft hobby. I attended my first milsim a few months ago and I'm going to my first Vietnam game in a month or so. As I said earlier, variety is the spice of life.3 points

Got the B18 to fit and finally got around to sorting the paracord on the stock. It could certainly be better, but it could equally certainly be worse. Have a B19N and RK-6 on their way from the Motherland, and a PBS-1 replica to throw a tracer in. Loving the build, but my wallet is very much looking forward to it being done.2 points

Get the NGRS, you’ll not be disappointed and if you ever want more performance it’s easily done. It takes a lot of experience, time and patience to make a cheaper gun even perform equally to a stock NGRS. Much easier to cock it up than make it better 😉 PS whenever I see TIA I think of Blood Diamond 😂2 points

There’s a challenge As a scenario paintball organiser airsofters used to tell me that they wanted to play the game formats, and they were “well into all the missions because airsoft is about realism” So with a simple game format running I then got told “This is far too complicated, airsofters want to just have a simple shootout” The truth is - people want to play games the way they like to play games Some want to pose, some want to tinker & chat in the safe zone, some want to shoot people, some want the adrenaline of possibly getting shot, some want to run around like demented idiots, some want to sneak around, some want to sit and take potshots, some want to find objects, some want a super special mission, some want to watch and laugh at everyone else around them At a regular site the games played are a combination of what the regulars like to play every week/month At an organised event it depends on the organiser and what they think people will come and pay to play At an event organised by us it is a collection of ideas we have taken from others, missions/games that we want to play, ideas that we have had and fancy seeing how people will play them Our most popular theme was based on the battle of Takhur Ghar / Roberts ridge, and then spun off to numerous sequels bringing in Columbian drug dealers & somali pirates Our most popular format was intended to be a one off mini game version of Battle Royale intended as a laugh and a method of bringing in a competition format to bring one person on stage and win a bag full of sponsors products2 points -

problem with using video games as inspiration is that mechanics that work well in games when enforced automatically such as being able to respawn at captured points don't work in airsoft where you can guarantee at least one person will either through ignorance or cuntishness respawn at an enemy held point and proceed to wipe everyone out. at least every game i've played with capturable respawns that's what happened.2 points -

Here is my trusty G&G GC-16 Predator. It has a removed fire selector switch on the right side as I didn't like or use it, this has minorly affected the stiffness and clicky-ness of the fire selector, it doesn't always initiate safety however it is an easy fix if you know what you're doing. its had gearbox work done to it in the past, I couldn't tell you specifics but I know it has an upgraded piston and gears with an upgraded motor. A new OEM mosfet was installed after i fried the original one that came with it after that i probably played 3-4 games then covid hit and I haven't touched it since. maple-leaf hop-up. TNT titanium extended barrel running about half way through the suppressor. last time i checked it was shooting 344-348 so very consistent and pretty much bang on legal limit. I honestly cant fault it in terms of operation other than the fire selector switch, it shoots laser beams and it served me well for the entirety of time i had it. It currently has an original Magpul industires MOE stock with a LaRue Tactical R.I.S.R which i wont be selling with the rifle (I will install the original stock. however the rest of the accessories are staying on such as the Micro-T1 clone (not working) and the flip to side 4x32, The MOC grip, Foam filled suppressor and the paracord wrap on the handguard. I will also include 4 plastic Nuprol midcap magazines (130 bb capacity) and 1 metal Nuprol midcap magazine (also 130 bb capacity) I do have more stuff for sale such as an OD Green plate carrier that weighs about 7KG with all the mags, and ammo which also has the sling mounted into it for the rifle. selling due to not having the time to play in over a year due to getting into a different hobby and it hurts looking at it sitting there collecting dust. collection only South East London based Please contact me on whatsapp - 07474808247 in regards to more pictures as i don't have them on hand at the time of posting the ad£550

Heya all. I just picked up one of the new Ares Kel-Tec RDBs. This is the first and probably only generation of these AEGs. I am always loathe to be the first to buy a brand new just released rifle ever since the KWA Tavor GBBr disaster. But... It's a bullpup, and I must have it. With the Ares RDB I was mostly right to be reticent. Looks: Great, the box is similar to the real Kel Tec rifle ones. The Replica looks fantastic. Quite accurate to look at. The Plastic is of very high quality Nylon Fibre. The metal feels like standard Ares Pot metal. Internals: Usual Ares Trash, not that I expected any less. This essentially took the standard Ares Soc-AR gearbox, Quick change spring system, Ferrite motor, innards and mosfet, replaced the cylinder with a one piece cylinder/cylinder head type and called it fine. To be fair the Ares Mosfet is a monster, hall sensors everywhere, whilst it has no real additional functionality, it is made of quite substantial components. The proprietary hop unit is.... meh. The plastic used is sturdier then it's orange appearance would have you believe. Unlike other Ares hop units, this one probably wont adjust by itself upon firing. Sadly the arm has a built in plastic nub, so you will need to modify it to use a rubber nub. The standard bucking is the usual ultra soft Ares rubber which tears easily. I replaced this with a Prommy Purple straight away. Hop adjustment is made in the magwell (So have to remove the magazine) by a small flathead screwdriver supplied within the RDB's pistol grip. The stock barrel is an awfully made 450mm brass barrel with a small hop window. This was changed out for a ZCI 420mm straight away. Fit and Finish: This is where the problems were very close to me returning it. The Outer Barrel and gas tube/Top Rail do not align, much like the 1st gen G&G GK5's and 1st gen Krytac M4's. I had to take the outer barrel apart to align it close enough to shoot straight. Sadly this also means trying to get the handguard pin back in is a nightmare as the pin hole on the gas tube/outer barrel bracket is now at a slight angle. I suspect this is actually an inherent design flaw rather then something specific to mine. If you want to see if your RDB has this issue, just look from the top down at the front of the rail and see if it aligns with the outer barrel extension, my extension is cockeyed to the left. I cant get the flash hider off from the barrel extension. Its stuck on fast and I need to get the heatgun out to see if that will shift it. The gearbox shimming is awful as per usual for Ares. the motor is weak, but the mosfet bullies the AEG into having reasonable performance on 11.1v. As per usual I will be replacing these bits ASAP. Performance: It's not particularly awful, I need to spend some time with the hop unit to get it working as best as it could, even with the prommy purple and ZCI barrel, its performance is lacking a little, range falling short of most of my other AEG's. ROF is fine. FPS was 330 out of the box with a stock M90 spring, dropping to 320 when I installed the shorter ZCI barrel. It's a quick change spring system so I put in a spare M95 to bump the performance up to 347 fps. At least it shoots straight after being beaten into shape by yours truly. Would I recommend it?: Like most bullpups, you have to love the system, be prepared to invest some physical labour and Teching to get it working to an acceptable standard. So for your average user... no. I do LOVE the look of the rifle and the way it feels in hand. If you insist on buying one, try seeing it in person beforehand to see if it has the barrel misalignment issue that I had. Frankly, it's Ares, and I got what I expected, good ideas, good on paper, but woefully implemented. New to Airsoft; what to buy?
GAMBLE reacted to AirsoftRich for a topic
Hey guys I am new to airsoft. I have played my first skirmishes on rented equipment and I love it. working towards my UKARA number so I can buy my own. There is so much choice out there! I want to go down the route of an automatic rifle with a side arm. I have been to several airsoft shops and spoken to seasoned airsofters at the sites and I have conflicting information (I do understand that weapon choice is very much horses for courses). I love the TM HK416 Devgru and have researched, read reviews and had many conversations with suppliers and airsofters alike about it. As far as an OOTB rifle goes it’s pretty top notch and other than the battery conversion really doesn’t need to be messed with. For a first gun I like this idea because I can have great performance for an amateur without having to upgrade apart from batteries. A couple of guys however have said that you can spend much less on a rifle and then spend money on good spring, mosfet, barrel and hop up and have something as good as the TM if not better but spend less. I don’t know which avenue to go down so I thought I would offer the question up to a wider audience. Looking forward to replies and discussion. TIA.1 point -

Sniper suggestions?
strykerles reacted to Impulse for a topic
Take your time and get what you really want. I suggested the VSR because it's what I have a lot of experience with, but you can do L96 builds, SRS builds, heck even m24 builds if you look hard enough and are feeling adventurous. Then there's semi-auto builds like SVDs, m14s, SR-25s etc; most people call them DMRs, but the only real difference between DMR and sniper is the style of play. You can be a DMR with a bolt action rifle, similar to how you can be a sniper with a 1J SVD. Everyone sees me as a "sniper" even when I'm running my m21 build at 1.1J, because of how I play and that it's tuned pretty well so it still has pretty nice range. A sniper rifle, whatever platform you choose, can be a pretty big investment if you really like it and decide it's the avenue you want to go down, and you don't want to look at your rifle and go "ew, I don't really want to use that, but I will because it performs well..." I would not recommend HPA as a first build. HPA is something that you need to make the conscious decision to go into, especially if you're installing it yourself as opposed to just buying a pre-built HPA gun like an MTW. It usually involves drilling holes in things and dremeling parts off the inside of your gun to get everything to fit nicely, or at least I'm 2 for 2 on that, since my VSR and m21 both required some DIY modification to the internals to get it together. HPA is a learning curve, but once you understand it it's a lot simpler than gearboxes. I've converted one of my VSRs and one of my m14s to HPA and they're the two main guns I bring to every skirmish day or event (my m21 is my main gun, with the VSR as a backup). The benefits of it for a sniper particularly (we don't need the ROF bulls**t that those zoomer speedsofters want) are that it's really, really quiet, it's really, really consistent and you can fine tune the power to exactly where you want it. Also, an aspect that people really underestimate for sniping, it makes the bolt pull absolutely effortless on a BASR. The number of times I've counter-sniped someone because I've seen their arm move to pull their spring bolt back, while they've had no idea where I am because my movement is a lot less and a lot more deliberate... It's a large number. Being able to pull the bolt back with a short finger movement that you can do nice and slowly makes you a lot less likely to be spotted than having to use your whole arm to pull back a spring bolt. The downside is that you either have to run a tank, which takes some getting used to and may also take a while to get right for you, as different people use different methods to carry their tank around. For example, I run a tiny 10ci tank in a stock pouch which makes it look impossible to shoulder (it's not on the right, but is on the left, but I can't aim on the left through a scope anyway because I can't close my right eye without closing my left), but most people run a tank in a belt pouch or small backpack with a line connecting it to the gun. Or you run a CO2 adapter in either a stock pouch or in the stock itself and run it on CO2 bulbs, but it's not quite as consistent and will start dropping the power as you reach the end of the CO2 bulb. Oh, it also costs an arm and a leg. I think my VSR cost me about £450 all in for the Wolverine Bolt, regulator, CO2 adapter and cylinder (and that's on top of the rifle and other upgrades outside the cylinder), and my m21 cost me around £400 for just the HPA engine. Then a tank, line and regulator is going to set you back another £100+, depending on which one you get. Then if you're running anything but the small 10/13ci tanks you probably need a scuba tank and fill adapter valve thingy, which will be another like £250 - 300... Yeah, it's pricey. Thankfully, I only use small tanks so I bought a hand pump for £50 for mine and just pump it manually. Takes about 15 mins for my 10ci, which means a normal 48ci tank (what most people run) would likely take me about 75 mins of pumping. No thanks! A well tuned spring rifle will sting just as much as an HPA rifle (assuming the HPA player isn't being a dirty cheatsydoodler and upping their PSI or dwell settings after chrono). It's usually because the person is using heavy BBs that it stings a lot. A well tuned spring rifle will also be about as consistent as an HPA setup too, but it's harder to tune to perfection since you are at the mercy of the spring god and all springs are not created equal. A well tuned spring rifle can also be tuned to be really quiet, but I don't think it can be as quiet as an HPA rifle because no moving parts in the latter. However, a spring rifle will never run out of power and doesn't need you to carry a tank. Like most things in airsoft, horses for courses and all that jazz. EDIT: Oh look, I wrote a small essay again. I should approach a university with my PhD thesis on airsoft sniping at this point 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣1 point -
Yes all the controls are very good on the NGRS AR series, the ambi is great on the 416 specifically. They also sport the best hop up system of any AR type AEG out there. NGRS + Dean’s connector + 2x quality LiPo and a charger + 0.25g BBs will see you right for years even if you dont get the upgrade itch.1 point

I'm sure a RAS with drop in if it's using a standard Delta Ring. I would consider the RAS 2 - where there is a stabilising section of RIS that bridges the receiver and RAS Rail. Stops wobble which is quite common with this type of handguard. https://www.fire-support.co.uk/product/ares-ris-front-end-ras-2-kit---save-pound66501 point -

Long term you will most likely be a lot better off if the garment (whatever the brand is) uses legit MCT fabric, as highlighted by some experiences above. That's the big difference between more low/mid-range priced uniforms from proper manufacturers vs pure chinese cloners that only make copies for the airsoft market. Shirts and trousers from Tru-Spec and Leo Kohler are what I mainly find myself recommending these days.1 point

karlos103 reacted to Speedbird_666 for a topic
The OP specified the GC16, which is metal-bodied. Likely to be stronger than the Specna as it's billet-styled with extra girth around the rear of the lower The CM variant is plastic bodied, which to be honest is just as good (if not better) as Specna's metal bodies in terms of strength (I have both right in front of me to compare). I would buy the G&G (Plastic) along with a Perun ETU++ personally. You get most of the features of the Aster (no dongle required!!), and G&G's QA/QC is generally better.1 point -
I'd take the "Specna Arms SA-E07 Edge 2.0" out of the two, with the prime reason being the "GATE ASTER" (which is hopefully the "v2" model, but Patrol Base doesn't confirm this). Get your self the "USB-Link" dongle for the GATE ASTER and there are then so many things you can configure in the "GATE Control Station" app on a smartphone... https://gatee.eu/products/aster1 point

sadly we can't, it's what's put me off the hobby tbh as over lockdown kinda reached the conclusion this state of affairs will never change as long as it's a game played by humans. i mean even in the controlled and enforced ruleset of a video game people will creatively exploit/cheat various mechanics. does depend on the game. I'd have loved a decent variant on trouble in terrorist town but literally every single time I've convinced a site to try it you get a minimum of one person treats it like a free for all deathmatch regardless of wether or not they're a traitor. then sites implement rules like "if you shoot someone on your own team it's you that dies" which leads to a riot between people who understand that concept and people that dont. i do love the concept of medics, and i can see how it would be a great mechanic, but it's reliant on the medic playing to the role which isn't guaranteed. looping back to my first point i'm afraid not. reckon the best a site can hope for even if they actually put effort into enforcing their given rulesets and developing a reputation as such is to ensure the core regular player base is good. at least assuming they don't fall down the rabbit hole of favoritism that is..... but it still just takes one group from a different site to show up and ruin everything, whether it's intentionally partaking in the popular creative game mechanics or blanket assuming the rules they're used to apply at the site they're playing at. for example the number of times i've heard things like "where i play headshots dont count", "most sites i go to gun-hits are a kill", "friendly fire does/doesn't count" or "i don't do bang kills" when on the actual site they're playing on those rules are different/don't exist. granted sites are as much to blame for this, given how some of the more fluid rules (enforced/voluntary/prohibited bang kills being a good example) are so rarely actually stated clearly or are changed on a game by game basis.1 point -

@Shamal Took a while, but I think I've got it working good now (just tested it for 100+ cycles). Needed a few iterations and testing of the print orientation to maximise strength, the first prototype snapped instantly on a layer line with a vertical print, horizontal print was too flexible so ended up at 45deg. I beefed up the part thickness and added a strengthening rib running down the length it. I also had to extend the tab that hits the dust cover by 1MM for reliable opening. I'll print some more of the final design in the next few days so you'll have spares.1 point -

I’m yet to experience a large scale battle similar to how Rush game mode worked in Battlefield 3. Back in the day I thought it was a perfect template for Airsoft skirmishes It adds variety, adds dynamism and prevents from camping, because as long as there’s multiple respawn points you’re never sure where the attack will come from. In addition, I always enjoyed game types such as VIP extraction, where speed and tactics are the key. The trouble is, most airsoft event organisers don’t take cues from game designers who spent thousands of hours perfecting game modes for causal players. Instead, they invent bullshit like “three-way warfare” where you have no idea wtf is going on until the day ends and someone somehow calculates points and declares a winning team. Apart from that, causal players and kids want just to shoot someone with BBs, which is not uncommon, and quite expectable. So how the heck do you reconcile the two worlds? I don’t think organisers aren’t capable of designing cool games, but most of the time they are way too detached or cocksure to admit they failed or could improve. Ego is the enemy.1 point -

I think you can get as much as possible or very little out of any game mode! it’s largely down to the level of communication from Marshals and between players in my opinion. if the communication drops then you’ve got no chance and it just becomes a field of people wandering around and getting in each others way! if you get spawn trapped speak to your team about how to get out of it, if you manage it you’ll leave with a massive sense of achievement! Feedback to the marshals as well so they can edit the rule set the next time they use that game mode if it wasn’t flowing well 👍👍1 point -

there's always an aspect to a game folk don't like. simple games (for a hobby where understanding the complex rules such as when you get hit your out, don't shoot people after they put their hand up, don't be an ass etc are often too complex for grown men to adhere to) can be handy for preventing undue conflict. However, a fixed respawn team deathmatch wether there's macguffins thrown in or not will always descend into a boring stalemate defined by whichever team ran fastest out of spawn and got all the good spots. complex games tend to descend into chaos the first time they're tried, folk forget rules. of course if its played often enough to the point where the marshall can go "it's the doodadamajig game" works fine for regulars, except where newcomers raise their hand at the start to ask the rules and had a 3-page rules list explained in 30 seconds. then regulars lose their shit because they missed the bit where they were only supposed to respawn 3 times after the first 2 flags had been captured but only once if the enemy team had crossed the bridge but back to unlimited if the defenders manage to get 4 whirligig's around the vip. it's why i'm a fan of the simple fall-back, simple enough that *most* folk can get their head around the concept and keeps the game moving so a stalemate can be broken by effort rather than simply waiting 30 minutes. but then plenty of people hate fall back games because the defending team always "loses", because apparently you can't have fun if you aren't winning.1 point -

Okay thanks for the reply's. I am just gonna say, I am not throwing a tantrum or anything like that, Its more of a question to see what you guys think to sites gameplay. I have been to probably 8 different airsoft sites and really only come across 1 or 2 that really utilise all of the facilities they have and have really cool and intuitive gameplay, multi game objectives etc etc.... I think maybe my rant might have lost its context but I am sure we have all been through it when you come away from a days airsofting thinking, meh that could have been better and come away at the end of the day going, that was awesome....I wanna find more of those sites. So they run a fairly simply medic rule, to every 5 or 10 players there will be a medic, which has different coloured tape on their arms along with the tape of their team. So to get back into the game, you have a 60 second bleed out time before you can walk back to spawn or wait till a medic gets to you, they tend to give the medics out to guys who are familiar with the site and by doing this guys who are new to the site tend to stick with guys that know the site and it works really really well, breaks down barriers of getting the team to work well together and creates groups of guys who have comms who can communicate with other groups, I know its a simple rule and I am sure it has its downsides but the few times I have been to the site the rule just makes the day run amazingly well. The site that adopts this game has a very large site and tends to attract a lot of players, they run a game on the first Saturday of each month and run multi objective games that last some time, tends to be first game is a couple of hours, the 2 long games in the afternoon.1 point -

At My site, Finmere, they will change game tactics if something isn’t working. It’s all try it and see. We will frequently give any critique to the organisers if something simply does not work and it helps to improve the games the following month.1 point -
I haven’t bothered getting anything from the EU to be honest. Just can’t be bothered with all their faff. All my TM parts come from HK or Japan and are here within a few days with no fuss.1 point

I'm so accustomed to doing it that I just do it anywhere, out and about, walking streets, going the shops, etc, it's kind of surreal sometimes because you can get a kind of dissociation and start seeing everything from a birds eye / third person perspective, it's wild. I think my gf is trying to lose weight so that I /will/ marry her.1 point -

If only.... BMI/health check tax bands. Reward those who try, not those who fry.1 point -
