Welcome Leo, Interesting thread. I'm not much into tech'ing so can't comment really. I would guess some upgrade choices are base on parts availability over here. As for ROF question, personally I HATE high rates as it spoils the gameplay and if everyone went in that direction it would make games shite. High ROF is for children with no skill 😆 Some of the most fun games I've had were playing in single shot. I'm sure you'll get more tech related replies...

I can only give my opinion on each of these points, so... For me, I prefer stainless steel barrels to brass barrels as stainless steel barrels won't corrode and to me they seem to require cleaning a little less often. Had one brass barrel corrode pretty bad, while I still use the same stainless steel barrel in my first VSR build for the past... 14 years? It's pretty much that simple. Reason for ZCI is their prices are great for what you get; £25 for a stainless steel tightbore is pretty nice. Trial and error for me. I've found that I might get a higher maximum range with the MR hop, but the macaron gives me way better consistency and better effective range. For me, effective range trumps maximum range every single time. Nubs, probably, but I wouldn't want to try to replicate an autobot or macaron contact patch by hand, though I'm crap at that kind of thing. Also, hop rubbers are pretty damn cheap. They're usually less than £10 and the nub is less than £5, so it's not exactly breaking the bank. I think it's "all of the above". I know my local site has a 25rps limit, because if you put a 1 second burst into someone that's still 25 BBs hitting them, potentially in the face. It's not nice getting absolutely hosed by someone with a wankergun build and an itchy trigger finger. I've got some pretty snappy builds, but none of them are over 20rps on full auto (and I never use full auto anyway). Also, if you're going that snappy, semi-auto might as well be full-auto. Insert the "that's not full auto, this is" video here. Also also, full-auto on something that isn't a support gun is just a crutch for people who can't aim. The crutch gets bigger the higher the ROF. Change my mind

A cool looking, but otherwise very average chinese red dot. Why Zero One charge £90 for these new is beyond me - I guess the MD has to pay for his new Merc somehow, and they got enough unsuspecting punters through the showroom door to actually sell them. Anyway, got this in a kit bundle - but it's not my cup of tea at all. It functions, and the dot moves as it should when turning the dials. Just don't expect HolyWarrior or third-shift Sig Romeo 5 performance/brightness - it's just a cheap red dot with an insane mark-up, hence my price. Couple of small marks commensurate with use. Price includes Postage and Paypal fees

  13. It's a lot of money for a G36 - but I never knew that I wanted a G36 with an MLOK rail so bad until now... Doesn't appear to be S&T/Ares based and the plastics (and barrel mounting) don't scream JG/CYMA. I'm wondering if its based on the WE 999K AEG.

  14. I'd not bother, could be one of those overseas £1k per minute jobbies, sounds like a random bot that's just latched on to your pm to chance it's arm. End of the day, even if its a genuine attempt to purchase from you, do you really want to get involved with someone who can't string a coherent sentence together, never mind give them personal details to allegedly proceed with a payment, & don't get me started if it's anything rif-like their after lol. I'd block them if possible ?

Thanks, there are a couple in stock at airsoft direct but it's hard to justify a 10er of the 50 quid your paying for a mag is a tiny plastic part that is essentially a consumable but hey ho. Guess it's a necessity for the reward of playing with a GBB. Still gives me big smiles each time I let off a round.

  18. ^absolutely agree You can’t go wrong with Revision; they’re rated to stop a shotgun so they’ll be fine for anything we go against. That’s my setup above. They’re Revision Sawfly’s with the clear lenses over the prescription insert. The lenses are extremely well made so don’t have any distortion. The helmet is a PTS MTEK Flux, and there’s adequate room for the mesh mask to not cover the mic’s on the hearing protection. Whilst there’s a tiny gap in skin protection on my forehead, the chances of getting hit there instead of the rest of me are minimal so I’m happy with the reduced risk.

  19. A proper DMR is always built up from the ground. Not saying you can't buy decent base guns but a DMR requires extreme amount of fine tuning when you really want to push it to the limit. Internally perfect air seal, shimming, stronger motor for heavier springs, decent quality inner barrel/hop-up unit/bucking/nub, using quality heavy BB's etc... If you can't outreach your opponent when you're forced to shoot only on semi and follow MED rules then there is no point to struggle with it.

  20. I'll agree with you there--the lack of ability to easily add an ETU is a big consideration. Jefftron does make a unit that goes in place of the microswitch, but I don't remember too much about it, other than that it did add microswitch debouncing and optional AB functions. I think it cost under $40? So not cheap but not nuts either... So far the microswitches in mine have held up... and hopefully will continue to... My NY06 microswitch is nearing 100K cycles with no issue, and I have a second at 20K (CAT Versatile). Of course, this is airsoft, your mileage may vary! If not, the replacement costs about $3 and needs to be soldered to three wires, so it won't be a huge deal, but definitely something to consider. Kinda like how the Cyma Platinum ETUs all burn out and need replacement eventually. 😑 My Cyma M14 has been nearly bulletproof so far... but it's heavy as heck and the M14 isn't a great platform to work on, which kept it off my recommendation. The long barrel is also a detriment potentially for any heavy BBs. I can't remember what the exact voluming numbers are, but I think above about .28g you start undervoluming. I may be wrong though. And, to be fair, y'all are in the UK where FPS limits aren't as high and you may not ever want to use BBs heavier than X weight.

  21. Probably. Either that or a Nigerian prince wanting to move money around

  22. I have a Cyma m14 as well and it's also great, but it's a lot more intimidating to tech than an SR-25 or m4 style platform. Generally most Cyma guns will perform decently well out of the box, but are also affordable bases for upgrading and making something fancy. My Cyma m14 has had some work done on it to make it a bit quieter (though it's still an AEG so there's noise there) and make it super consistent and snappy and I had people at a private game thinking I was using a sniper rifle when I was using it. Oh, also if you wanted to be a bit different... you could go for a Cyma SVD. I rarely see SVDs these days and I kinda wanna get one now. Damn it 🤣

  23. My usual vote of confidence in the Double Eagle. (I'm still waiting on those royalty checks, you bastards!) I've got a Cyma M14 (the full length 'Nam version, rather than the compact SOCOM variety). It does seem a pretty decent gun but I haven't gone as far as skirmishing it yet. From what I saw in the short time I've fired it at range (rather than just the 15-18m in my garden), it's a steady rather than stellar out-of-the-box performer, but it gets a lot of love here. It's a undeniably cool gun though (especially as Full Metal Jacket remains one of my favourite films) Disassembling it, even just to replace the hop-up rubber, seems a bit scarier than with other rifles. And the large quantity of plastic involved in the making a full rifle stock makes it a bit creaky. If you do choose one, I'd send it off to Luke at Negative Airsoft to do the work for you - he'll sprinkle some pixie dust in there to make it a real good 'un (by all accounts) Long-ish story short, the DE 908 would be a simpler thing to 'tech' yourself, and you'll be able to ask Fatboy for all the advice you could need. I'm sure he'll be more than happy to help!

  27. To the best of my knowledge, in 21+ years of playing, I've never owned a gnu fitted with a mosfet, & I've had (& still have) a shitload of them, with no detrimental effect on my ability to play. If your reason for wanting a mosfet is to lock something to single shot, be aware that most sites that have dmr specs insist on mechanical disablement of full auto rather than mosfet, such as modified selector plate etc.

  28. Easy peasy lemon squeezy , get a CYMA M14 Socom, great out of the box, wee bit shorter than the standard m14 so still adept at urban sites, hi caps have big mag capacity so no need to festoon yourself in tactical nylon with a gazillion pouches, in fact a small grab bag & 3 mags would probably cover most skirmish day needs & make being a sneaky mofo a piece of piss. Works for me lol. Edit. Just see your "deal breaker", don't think quick change spring is an option (I could be wrong though ?), but still a great rifle for getting in the dmr/sniper mindset for not a lot of money.

  30. So I spotted this on Gumtree and contacted the seller before the listing was deleted (anything gun shaped is forbidden to be sold there) The seller knows nothing about its history, so I gotta start somewhere I believe it’s made by Daisy, and was only in production for almost 1 year before they were forced to cease manufacture - apparently due to it being too realistic 😂 I can hardly find any mention of it online I dunno if it’s metal or plastic, seller is a bit vague other than it’s working. But it’s on its way to me! More a collectors piece than a skirmishable rif I think (not that I’m a collector , but couldn’t resist) Any of our veteran members able to shine a light on this please? these are the only pics I’ve got until it arrives…..

Heres my A&K Winchester 1892. These normally have more leaks than the Mccanns alibis. This does not. Its seals are tighter than the locks on Joseph Fritzls basement. I've also refinished the metalwork, though not the actual mechanism, and taken the stock orange varnish off. The same shade Katie price is currently using I believe. I've gone over it with the finest wood oil that I could find in the back of the garage. Given the stock a few knocks, been beaten up more than Jonny Depp. Its does actually shoot quite well if you use it like a martini Henry, and live out your Zulu war fantasies. In reality this probably means it's good for shooting the opposition if they're armed with nought but a pointy stick. And then you'll lose the second game. It'll look good on the wall of your mancave, which is the middle class word for mastabatorium. Or even pride of place in the living room, take the pictures of the kids down, what have they ever done for you, right? I'm open to offers, if it doesnt go it'll just sit on the project pile, though I'm going to use it as a single shot breech loader if I still have it next weekends western game. Swaps for revolvers are a possibility. Please have a defence. Shooting the neighbour's cats, no matter how many times they shit on the lawn is frowned upon and not a defence apparently. BlOoDy UkArA pOlIcE. First to see may not buy. Collection preferred. Oh, and just incase. Hello Mack's.
