When the AAP-01 first came out, though the price/performance was really good. I really couldn't get behind the aesthetics.. So when the CTM ruger kit came out. I had to get it. I think the only thing I will change in the future is the trigger and the bolt.. But for now I'm pretty chuffed with how it looks!4 points -

If my son punched like that or 'defended' himself by cowering like that I'd call him my daughter. I wouldn't actually thinking about it as my daughter knows how to use her fists. She'd flatten both of them. I don't know what I'd call him but it would be uncomplimentary, and by now I've lost interest in the airsoft part of it all. Seriously, don't take the piss if you can't take a punch/multiple whacks from the HPA using androgynous being. Also disappointed by the lack of relevant soundtrack. I'd have liked the Rocky theme for the build up with the Benny Hill theme for the 'punches.' Soundtrack: 0/10 Artistic Interpretation: 3/10 Degree of Technical Difficulty: 4/10 Direction: 3/10 Award: Everyone involved needs burning at the stake. Twice.4 points -
21yrs for me my 1st gun was a 4th or 5th hand TM M16 that the front end wobbled like a leaf in the wind no matter how tight you tried to get it ! 😳 who used to buy their gun from RSOV/Gunner/WGC that used to arrive doing 400+fps all the time pre UKARA ? You’d get that letter from parcel farce saying your parcel from Hong Kong was at your local Depo and you had to go and pick it up from there and you possibly may have got caught and have to pay some charges(they’d usually say something like ‘toy parts with a value of $10 on this honking big box !🤦♂️) on it ! 🤬 🤣🤣🤣2 points

I'm about 20 years in now. Good fun in the old day. £300 for a TM M4, that had about a 5 piece barrel held together with grub screws, 2 piece hop unit and lugs that would break if you ever opened it up. To this day... Famas am best gun. Airsoft dynamics was an absolute shit show but had a good player gallery. There seemed to be a lot more variety. When a new gun came out it was often a different weapon rather than a new varient. There was also some great kits if you wanted to put the work in. Anyone remember smokey's? That used to be the only way to get a 74 or something exotic like a Swedish K. UZI's were plentiful, midcaps didn't exist and AEG's were all the rage getting rid of those annoying guns that required external air tanks... Won't see the likes of those again... Sun project Xm177's... Old technology long forgotten... No sir never again... Thanks Marui man!2 points

Of course, the real unforgivable offence is posting Reddit clickbait here. Man, woman, I don't see gender, I just see an HPA wanker and a burger-roid-raging plonker who seems incapable of shouting the word "hit!". I don't know about you chaps / lady-chaps, but at the sites where I play, the briefing tends to make a point that you'll stop getting shot if and when you acknowledge the hit.2 points

AAP to Ruger project is going well. Lower receiver arrived and that's the first pistol lower I've had to completely strip out (as the Ruger lower comes empty, you have to take all the AAP-01 bits out of the stock lower and put them into the Ruger lower apart from the safety and the mag release button). Still want to get some real wood grips, a metal upper (but they're pricey), a new inner barrel as the stock one is short and some different rear sights, but it's now very much usable as a Ruger. New Namsoft sidearm acquired, and this one is more reliable and shoots better than my 1911. VC sniper now has a period-appropriate assassin pistol2 points

Exactly that.👍 I've never played to win(right or wrong). Only now I can afford a real(ish) stick. It still goes brr, brrr though.( I really must get it fixed)lol. Regards Do revision wipes actually work? Hello everyone Dad and son combo new to airsoft!!!! Any top tips on what to do and what not to do would be welcome, especially as I'm no spring chicken and the prospect of running around for the day fills me we dread lol. Any advice on AEG rifles, what to look out for, what's good and what's not etc would be welcome too (I understand there is a qualifying period and joining UKARA before purchasing a solid colour set up). I'd be budgeting around £300 - £400 for each of us and that would include weapon, mags, batteries, chargers etc etc. Look forward to hearing your words of wisdom Thanks Confused Dad1 point -

Aye, a Perr Mike is what I've got on mine. Trades are present and correct as well, and the barrel has had the 0.3" removed to make it the correct 10" (not that it's something I'd actively go out and do myself but I welcome them being there). All it's missing is a few bits of machining on the top rail and it's pretty much there... whether that's something I'll ever get around to doing is another question entirely.1 point

Had a funny incident at the weekend on a TDM game (I think). Middle age dude was hiding behind a wall and made the mistake of standing up. Not realising there was 5 of us all hiding behind various other nearby objects and walls just waiting for something like that to happen. Poor bastard got lit up by all of us at the same time. He was very unhappy and whined and griped like a beeatch thinking it was one kid who was standing the nearest full auto'ing him. Couldn't help but laugh - its not as if a few of us hadn't been parked there a good 5 minutes by that stage picking off people trying to get to the very same wall he was hiding behind. The BB's must have been whizzing past his field of view. I am of the view that your playing a game principally based on getting shot at. Don't moan when that is precisely what happens. I do get a little snarky about being hit repeatedly when you've got your arm up after calling a hit; and I think getting head shotted when there is plenty of other body parts out in the open is a bit dickish. That being said I have been domed plenty of times and have had to exclaim a good shot because was I fucked if I new where the shooter was and how they managed to get the hit. Watched plenty of clickbait vids on YouTube thinking a good majority of the headshots were just to be a knob for the sake of it. Also don't have a problem with full autoing someone not calling their hits though, as long as its at a reasonable range. Had that a the weekend too - was shooting someone at extreme range (for me) thinking I must be hitting this dude. Hit someone passing just in front of him and they called their hit. Then I hit him in the head (confirmed by the massive flinch), all with no arm going up. Decided a couple of burst of full auto to make a point, then it wasn't worth anymore BB's. Think we must have all been there though?1 point -

For building work I do stick to DeWalt for electrical stuff, and Irwin Jacks have stiffish blades, but given how much stuff gets lost/thrown in the van uncleaned/buried/leant out to 'mates' etc, I use any old crap. There a probably a few Blackspur trowels in the back now ready to be used and immediately thrown away. There's definitely a shit encrusted set of Faithful sockets and a hammer from Poundland that I bought when I broke down in the town centre one day. I did have a shovel marked War Dept. for years but it went back to nature. The well oiled and polished spanners etc nestle in my garage with the bikes with which I tinker. Cheers @Lozart and @Iceni I've gone for the ratchet option. I can't take a pic @Davegolfbut the uninsulated terminals that I need to fit do require the dimple to turn the prongs in. Thoroughly agree that brands are just commodities these days. The last King Dick set of spanners that I bought were seemingly cheap Chinese crap that I returned, and I doubt that anyone remembers the days when Britool were the absolute bollocks. Thanks all!1 point -

TBH you'll get a much better idea of what you need/want by going and having a few games. Quite often something that looks super tacticool and slick in the comfort of your own garage turns out to be impractical and/or ludicrously uncomfortable during actual gameplay. I'm now on the 3rd or 4th incarnation of my loadout and its 99% there, but I've spunked a bit of money up the wall getting to this point, some of which I could have avoided if I was a bit more patient...1 point -

Great advice above, nothing much to add to it except some other bits of kit you might not have considered: Kneepads, or trousers with built-in kneepads Something to hang all your kit off, whether that be a belt/battle belt, assault vest or plate carrier ( this item is the perfect happy medium for me) Weapon sling, I like the bungee ones Wet weather gear, even if it's just a surplus DPM goretex jacket you can throw on over the top of everything. There really is no limit to the amount of needless accessories you can buy in this hobby but I'd consider the above to be pretty essential.1 point -

So, yours is the new version with the one piece cylinder, which will save you a fair bit of money! It still requires a TDC wheel (Action Army makes the best one) because the grub screw has a tendency to unscrew itself with use, then I'd look at a new o-ring for the piston head (it's AEG spec so any AEG o-ring will do), new hop rubber because the stock one is pisspoor quality and, if you can find it, a Gunsmithy hop up arm. You can keep the stock hop chamber because it's decent and seals well. If you're looking at reducing the sound, I'm afraid there's not much you can do, airbrakes don't really work on this gun and the cylinder volume is barely enough for 0.32s, let alone heavier BBs.1 point

Surprisingly, yes. I've tried many lotions and potions over the years for biking and then airsoft, and they're the least useless I've come across. They should be, given the price. It's worth keeping an eye open for bulk buys that will last you years rather than buying them at the extortionate sums being asked for a couple of them.1 point

It was my youngest son that got me into airsoft as well, we both played a rental game in 2020 and were hooked ever since (young teenager and me an overweight old fart). Every man and his dog can give advice about what to buy, but all I'd say is both get the same rifle, having the exact same stuff makes life so much easier 👍 (same mags, same stocks so you know what batteries fit, if you fix a problem with one rifle you know that you can do the same to the other etc.). Looking back to my start in airsoft I think there are only two things I'd change, and that's drink way more water (you lose more than you think), and goggles fogging up is a right pain in the arse so get some "Revision" wipes for them.1 point

Welcome Dad and son Everything pretty much said above. I'm just over 50 and my son is 17. He generally runs ahead and I sneak around. (Knee pads are very handy 😉) - First, read a lot of the forum. All the questions have already been asked at some point... - Rent for first 3 games to get UKARA registered. As well as being able to buy in realistic black (RIF) it will allow you to experience the action before investing in a pew. You can chose a long or short style weapon depending on your preference once you get a feel for the games. Even though you haven't mentioned it, Sniper is not advised as a starter. M4 are the most common for their versatility. - My top/down list of manufacturers based on price/performance would be JG, CYMA, SpecnaArms, G&G - A couple of Li-Po 7.4v 1300mAh for each of you will last a day. SkyRC S65 charger (+adapter leads needed) Convert plugs to Deans (T-connectors) or XT30 if you can use a soldering iron. - Check out https://playairsoft.uk/ for sites near you. (Google reviews to check) - As said, have fun. Its not about winning but having awesome firefights 😁1 point

Thanks Shamal Got the eye and face protection, gloves and boots sorted as don't fancy losing and eye or teeth (difficult one to explain away bringing my son home with a gaping smile lol) and it's my son's birthday so made for easy presents lol. Yes going to rent to start with but been looking at shiny things (oh so tempting !!!) and before I jump head long in to the rabbit hole, getting a general heads up on what's good and what's not would be very helpful. We both like the look and feel of the M4 platform and I believe it's the best for upgrades and add ons. Thanks for your help and maybe meet you on the field one day!1 point -
Hi @ConfusedDadand welcome to the Airsoft asylum 👍 it's good that you and your son are starting together.🙂 I would say read as much as poss to get an understanding of the basics. watch videos( check out our own @GAMBLEhe has a utube channel with tips and info) and bone up on the rules of your chosen site. Spring chicken 🐓 or not your gonna have to run till you drop! Lol. No seriously you can take it at your own pace, play within your comfort zone and remember you are there for fun not punishment. I'm very late sixties now and I have times when I break into a sweat but most times I'm creeping around looking for glory lol. £300-£400 is a good amount and you will get some good gear for that.Specna arms edge series, are in my opinion,a good bet as well as g&g stuff. Be guided a little bit by what you personally like the look of,after you will be using it. It might be a good idea to play as a rental player for your first few games to get a feel for it and to decide if it's for you before spending out and also get to look at other people's equipment ( ooh matron).😊 Make sure that you invest in good quality eyepro and nice sturdy boots with ankle support.gloves will protect fingers although direct hit will still be felt but not so bad.Lower face pro is advised but not compulsory unless player is under 18? Check with site. Above all have fun( you are paying) Listen to briefings, watch other people, ask questions, play within your limits, call your hits and have a great time👍 Regards1 point

Externally added a HAO 13.5 MK16 rail & KAC style flip ups , VLTOR style gas block & gas tube .AG Surefire FH , Magpul CTR stock ,Bushnell AR.223 1-4 scope & Aero precision mount. inside a Prometheus tightbore & purple rubber / bucking combo . Using the stock hop unit and it seems to be flinging .28’s quite well.1 point -
Probs a dumb question on counting teeth
Pollynator_bravo2 reacted to Adolf Hamster for a topic
Premature engagement Basically the piston isn't fully forwards when the sector gear tries to pick it up, teeth are badly aligned and something ends up breaking. Most common cause is when folk are building a gun thats running too fast for its power, but as @Skara says can also occurr when something like a bb jam is restricting forward motion of the piston. its one of the arguments for plastic tooth pistons, the teeth are an intentional point of failure where a metal rack might push the failure onto the gears.1 point -
