Great day at the same event that @Impulse played at. Dustoff is the first game weekend on the ever expanding Namsoft calendar. I couldn’t find the silly black pjs and had to settle for PAVN green and being shot by friendlies three times the first morning. It did feel good donning the pith helmet again. Due to the storyline, both teams were pretty evenly matched number wise, which was a Namsoft novelty. I did wonder if this meant a complete spanking for the US, as the VC usually come away victorious in terms of objectives fulfilled, despite playing two or three to one. Anyhow… Saturday started on time, and consisted of much more of a straight infantry skirmish than the usual VC guerrilla stuff. Attacking The Wall, I was hit with more grenades than I have ever seen thrown in my life. Honestly, I was hit by BBs and then about seven MKVs. On the second or third rush, someone started chucking orange (incendiary) smokes too. It was hilarious fun, if noisy. It later transpired that someone had put a box of pyro at the base of the wall to sell, and in the heat of the moment the lot got used by over eager players. I expect the would be entrepreneur will punt them in the car park next year. Or I heard another tall airsoft tale. We’ll never know. The afternoon produced a series of attacks on the hilltop bases held by Aussie and US players. These were accompanied by much whistle blowing and charging like loons up slopes with sparse cover. I had been using an AK, but the full on style attack had me reaching for my trusty RPK. The rules only allowed full auto for support weapons, so the suppressive fire that the RPK gave was useful. Sunday proved the maxim that all plans fall apart in the face of the enemy. The carefully worked out fall back game turned into the US really getting it all spot on and outflanking us until the two US forces met in a pincer movement. We got completely hammered, although we did put up a lot of resistance at the beginning. I got the RPK set up on high ground with a mate, and held out until the inevitable happened and the GIs got within pyro throwing distance. TBH, I enjoy these games so much that I don’t mind missing skirmishes and the like for weeks on end if work etc gets in the way. The storylines and high standard of gameplay are great. The social side of things is brilliant too. It’s a proper weekend away in Victor Book for Boys fantasy land, with industrial quantities of BBs through the support weapons, stupid amounts of pyro being thrown, and a huge amount of beer. Anyhow, being evenly matched didn’t suit us and we lost for the first game in ages, if memory serves. In any case it hardly matters as I had a great weekend and am all set for the next in May. No need to apologise for being right. Fantasists gotta fantasise. One specific issue is that the sort of people who will provide medical and fire cover without production liability insurance to cover them when things go Baldwin are exactly the sort of people that you wouldn't want to be relying on. It's amazing how many people with huge ideas would rather hang around in forums arguing about them than actually getting on with implementing them. Remember that stable genius here who was poised to file patents on an team tracker device that it turns out had already been invented at least twice before? That all went a bit quiet, didn't it?3 points

Ahoy and welcome. Have you airsofted before? Do you have any particular requirements or desires about a platform? Since you didn't say, I'd assume the default M4 and that you're OK with plastic polymer bodies. In that budget, I'd say: CYMA for internal robustness but meh externals. Whatever you like the look of, they're all much the same internally. G&G CM-16 for much the same reasons. Double Eagle M90X range (and nothing else Double Eagle) for a surprising amount of features at the same price. The sad fact is that there's no 100% guarantee on airsoft guns. They're really expensive toys, and the moment you open the box, they're considered used-and-abused by 2nd owners and the retailer alike. Even the biggest UK retailers will cheerfully flog on returns as "new" guns. However, if you're OK with having pieces of hard plastic shot at your face while wearing a few £££ of eye protection, I hope you're not completely risk averse.2 points

Had a cracking day at strikeforce Gloucester on Sunday. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea because of all the HPA speedybois, but the frentic in your face non stop action suits me. Didn't get shot in the face too much for a change lol. Highlight of the day was tug of war which was played just before lunch, out team absolutely steamrolled the other team and pushed them right back all the way around the site. I also used the opportunity to practice switching shoulders. Firing from my left shoulder is something I've basically never done until recently which is partly why I get so much use out of my pistol as its always been easier for me to switch to that than to change shoulders. The ferro slingster has made a massive difference.2 points -

Rogerborg reacted to Emergencychimps for a topic
I think rogerborg has a good point. Have you played before? If you haven't, the best one is probably one that a site rents to you. Rent the first at least 3 times. Yes it will cost you a bit extra but I swear there are thousands of people who have thought airsoft was the dogs danglies on YouTube, maybe had an awesome first game, but by their 3rd/4th game have lost the hype and they've sunk a small fortune into the hobby and you never get back what you've paid when selling it. It's also a great way to get chatting to other players on site, airsofters love talking about their gear and guns, chat to them, ask to hold them, test shoot them etc. You'll get a better understanding of what you want, what's available and you'll at least get a bit chatty with the other players. If you haven't played before then you'll need to get a two tone, which if you get into the sport you'll probably be keen to replace, so you won't end up saving any cash. If you have played before and like m4s personally I'd suggest a g&g m4, anyone in your price range that you like the look of. They all basically do the same thing and the quality control of g&g seems good for the money, so then just getting one you like the look of is sensible, longer barrels aren't more accurate etc. The performance and functionality of them will all be the same/very similar. Don't like m4s? well......I'd honestly recommend sucking that up and getting an m4. You can get some great cheap ones, Parts are easy to get, they're common so onsite techs aren't working on something weird and they should be good to go out of the box from a brand like g&g or specna. Accessories, kit (chest rigs, mag pouches) are common and cheap. Also, they can be lovely. If you really must have an AK or some other weird shaped one, by the time you can justify spending the money you'll be in a better place to understand what's good, what you're looking for etc. Just don't be one of those people who is like.....I've just bought this gnu , is it any good?1 point -
Done a bit of digging and from what I can work out is that with all the types of Alpenflage it was always just the jacket and a small pack no webbing(only a small number of the full time soldiers used German webbing as all others where doing their national service) as such up until they moved on to the M90 uniform pattern when they first fully fielded a load carrying webbing system .1 point

Help with choosing new RIF
Lozart reacted to Speedbird_666 for a topic
By all accounts minor component changes, but I think the shell is the same. E&C produce some of the Specna line (maybe the One or A series?). E&C-based guns are pretty good. My Specna V1 Edge now has been running an E&C 'box for a while. With a couple of shims and a re-grease it's working pretty nicely and a worthy upgrade base.1 point -
Nope I am well up for that idea I've just struggled to find an all metal RIF with a decent gearbox that I can gut and upgrade myself but i am open to any recommendations. I had bad experiences with specna arms so I have pretty much ruled them out. I absolutely love the look of the classic army and Ares and love the locking back bolt catch but they are at the upper end of my budget and the ares is proprietary and I have been told the internals might be a bit shite. Ideally I want a nice shell with gearbox that isn't made of paper that I can install higher end parts in1 point

Help with choosing new RIF
Rogerborg reacted to Speedbird_666 for a topic
Action Army? You mean Classic Army right? I wouldn't buy any of them TBH. Reasons: - G&G. Pretty much a mildly-upgraded £150 Combat Machine stuffed into a metal body with a stupid price tag. Desperately lacking in features for the cost (no QC Spring for example). G&G are rapidly pricing themselves out of the market, especially as they have recently announced new price increases across the board. - Classic Army. Struggling to stay relevant in a world full of decent replicas. I hear that the compression parts on the higher-end models might be 'bore up' sized, if so upgrade/replacement options might be limited. Not 100% on that though, so I suggest a bit of research first. - Ares is just, well, Ares. Proprietary wank with questionable reliability on the internals. Looks good on the outside though . For similar money you could be buying Kytac, KWA, or higher-end ICS - each admittedly have their own proprietary 'quirks' but have better support than Classic Army/Ares. If you are planning to perform serious upgrades to any gun you buy, there's not much point pitching your budget where you are at the moment. May as well buy a cheaper gun from the outset and build it how you want it. But you won't do that. Because this is Airsoft. And people never want to hear sensible ideas.1 point -

The Silverback TAC-41 challenge: is it a YouTube grade sniper out of the box?
TuckyTuckyd reacted to Rogerborg for a topic
With the caveat that it'll need a spring to get it up from about 1.8J to your site limit, my tl;dr answer is: This is based on 1 day's play, versus a Well MB-03 with some upgrades that I've been messing around with on and off. Pros: A numbered and indexed clicky TDC hop. All airsoft snipers should come with this. Once you dial it in for a BB weight, take a note of the setting and you can just reset it to there again. I should note that I'm bang on 8 out of 10 for 0.43g, so it should be fine for 0.45g but I can't speak to 0.48g+ "plastic". A short, smooth bolt pull. It feels lighter than it actually is (17-25kg for a 100 Newton spring), but it's a pleasure to pull. I didn't experience any struggling or fatigue all day, even while prone. A decent adjustable and crisp 90 degree trigger. A quick and simple bolt removal / spring change system, with all the tools needed stored in the gun. The bolt comes unfitted, and the box urges you to Read The Fine Manual to figure it out. It's well illustrated and very nearly written in English. Once you've done it, you'll be ranting "Why aren't all snipers like this?" Great consistency. I deliberately didn't even clean the barrel, just tweaked the hop and spring to get 2.3J with properly hopped 0.43g, and played. Once I had my scope adjusted, I was consistently hitting head sized targets (OK, heads) at 50m (airsoft estimate) and airsofter sized targets at beyond AEG range. The limiting factor was wind, and my ability to hold it steady. The bolt is ambidextrous and can be switched to lefty for Satanic sorts. It's got nice indexing on the rotation, being positively up or down, and not wanting to muddle around in the middle. The parts that matter all seem to be steel. Meh and missing: The body is a reasonable polymer, but not superb, and it's neither heavy, nor light. The barrel is floating. This may be significant for bang-guns, but it's largely pointless for airsoft, and the slight flex feels a little peculiar. It doesn't effect consistency, but neither does it isolate the handguard - resting it on an oil drum resulted in a lot of resonance. I'll probably just shim it. The lack of a cocked indicator is a little disappointing. You can just about tell from the trigger. There's apparently a double feed prevention system, but I managed to get one (1) double-feed today. There are no sling mounts as stock. You'll need to buy some QD sling mounts - there are QD holes front and rear on both sides. There's a decent long RIS rail on top, but the front and sides are m-lok, so you'll need a rail section even to add a bipod. As a Scotch, this irks me a little. The magazine well is just in front of the trigger, but feeds to the hop unit via a "feed ramp" with 20 BBs in it. This needs "primed" by inserting a mag to fill the ramp, then removing the magazine and refilling it. A little annoying, and it means the gun is never really "unloaded" unless you empty the ramp (and spill 20 BBs). In practice, you'll likely just keep it filled and it won't be an issue. Cons: The magazines are a decent capacity, holding 48 BBs each. They just fit in a pistol pouch, with a little wiggling. However, they're tricky to fill, needing to push the feed down very slightly while loading the BBs. That's also how you unload it, and it's an overly sensitive mechanism: I emptied a few mags while trying to wiggle them into pouches. The mags have to go in straight, not front-then-back as they want to do. This is explained in the Fine Manual, but you're fighting against the gun slightly. The cocking handle wants to unscrew itself from the bolt. I've seen another reviewer mention this. I've screwed it in securely, and will threadlock it. It's curious given how well everything else seems to be put together. And that's it. I can't find anything else wrong with it. Once the mags are in, it's a joy to use. As seen elsewhere here, this is what I'd hoped airsoft sniping would be like. The number of times I LOLed out loud today as I face-shot folk sticking their head out of cover would do a "OMG CHEETAR PUNISHED" YouTube channel proud. Keep all this in context, it's an airsoft toy, not precision engineering. Aftermarket parts are available, and might make it marginally more consistent or quieter. However, in a world that contains wind, rain, grass, leaves and Plastic Magnetos, I reckon it really is actually good enough for me with just a spring change.1 point -

I had something similar. I sold an NGRS. When it arrived it was perfect except the power was lower than I had stated. I offered the cost of a service by a gunsmith to resolve or a full refund, as long as it was returned in the state I sold it and not opened. Since it would be such a simple task to up the spring or replace the piston/oring. That if they couldn't do that, there was no way i was going to take the gun back. They refused. Opened the gun, couldn't fix and instantly put in a pay pal dispute. Because of my offer and documentation. I won the case. I think in this case, tell them to go f themselves and let paypal sort it out. The protection works both ways.1 point -

Just finished another weathered paint job. This is 'Starry'*. I wanted it to look like it's been dug up out of a Ukrainian garden after 20 years and recalled to active service... and I think it worked. 😁 Method: I stripped it back to bare metal, primed and repainted black so that when the paint inevitably chips, it's exposes the metal. I then used acrylic rust colours from brown to orange, dabbed on with foam in patches. The whole lot was then covered in an uneven textured 'technical' acrylic to give it the caked-up finish. The wood was sanded to remove the top layer then I used an aggressive sanding brush disc to carve runs into it. It was then doused in an oil-coloured acrylic wash to make it look distressed and a bit rotten. Finally, it was airbrushed with layers of matte varnish and chipping agent. Long live the 'Kraine! 🇺🇦 *Real name 'staryy brudnyy svoloch' (старий брудний сволоч) which is Ukrainian for 'Old Dirty Bastard'.1 point -
