  1. Unfortunate, and I expect that this "airsoft team" is as imaginary as the rest of his "the dog must have undeleted those pictures" excuses. And now back to the scheduled controversy: why didn't he just join an existing historical reenactment group or team, dress up in SS regalia, and then say "bUt I'm OnLy InTeReStEd In ThE HiStOrY, i'M nOt A nAzI" ? Personally I've got little time for that, particularly in airsoft. Wehrmacht, knock your socks off, but I've seen a couple of folks on Failbook who who go full lightning bolts, and then play the "muh history" card. Sure, that will be true for some, but it's also useful cover for those who harbour views like Licking Mustard's. I'd rather scorch that earth and leave them out in the open.

  3. This is why I like dead rags and really do advocate their use. Last game I went to I didnt take a dead rag and noticed a huge difference with getting shot while walking back to spawn. it seems that even though they are not used people recognise what the red rag means and its a hell of a lot easier to positively ID someone you know is out of the game. This goes onto my next point. arm bands, I sat looking at one dude for ages because i couldn't see his other arm and was unsure if i had flanked enemy or a friendly was pushed up with me. I didnt shoot for fear of taking out a friendly but I did end up getting lit up while I was trying to figue it out. Id love to see more sites use the opposite arm rule to help identify players.

  4. if you mean the difference between say a decepticon and autobot bucking? it's the shape of the contact patch, forget which way round they are but one is more triangular and the other is more square, realistically the difference is most likely 90% marketing. the key is meant to apply a more even pressure, similar to how for example the omega nub is for an aeg. the different sizes/shapes will be to fit different pistol designs, for example if a gun has a wider or narrower, longer or shorter window for the hop arm. it's useful when combined with one of the ml buckings (or buckings of a similar style), as it means the whole patch gets pressed down rather than just the middle. the whole idea behind the ml products is you get the same result as the s/r hop without any of the associated hassle. by all accounts the S hop tends to have a very short lifespan, and whilst R-hops last longer these days (thanks to off the shelf products like the ml stuff) they tend to have limited use. the only advantage an R hop has is the ability to have different compounds for the feed lip and hop patch, so a soft patch for spinning heavy ammo combined with a hard feed lip to hold a seal at higher fps. however for the autobot/decepticon this can be solved with the metal c-clip they come with

Carried out some changes to my 10.3" URGI-1 over the last few weeks. Some because I simply fancied a change but others because I have taken some things I like from my MRE build and wanted to transfer them onto this much modern rifle. I was going to swap out the front end entirely and build up an 11.5" barrel complete with a Geissele MK4 rail. But I just love the compactness of the 10.3" and I know its a very common rail in the safe zone, but the URGI is just fantastic and it would take something pretty special to beat it IMO, in terms of its slim profile and ergonomics. So the 4 prong SF Flash Hider has gone in favour for a SF closed-tine. Think of it like a modern day bird cage flash hider. (Both made by Angry Gun) The Magpul hand stop has been replaced with a TrueNorth Concepts Handstop-K a much smaller profile and takes advantage of the slim design of the urgi rail. Having really missed the ambi fire selector fitted to my MRE I wanted the same on the urgi albeit a little more modern. So enter the PTS Radian Talon ambi selector, which is very well made and offers solid/precise manipulation. I was so impressed with the PTS fire selector I coupled it with their licensed version of the Radian Raptor-LT charging handle. I love the vertical shooting position of the Magpul MOE K2 Pistol Grip, but prefer the rubber grip that the Hogue offers on my MRE. Luckily Magpul make the 'K2+' which is an overmolded grip with rubber, giving me the best of both worlds. I've now fitted a Angry Gun Milspec buffer tube as it has worked flawlessly on my MRE and takes out any slop with genuine stocks. This has been followed with a SixG HSB to improve single shot performance, I've tested it and it works very well indeed. Looking forward to testing it further in game! Lastly as much as I'm a fan of the small form factor of the Magpul MOE SL-K, I just miss shouldering a rifle with a CTR fitted. Let's be honest that stock suits any build even if its been around for a while now! A Magpul enhanced magazine release, and Magpul ODG magazine pulls are also on route... Thanks for reading my update, another post from a geardo/geek!

  8. I still chuckle about the guy who was fuming because I shot him as he was rolling a cigarette, while stood immediately next to the building his team were defending. Of course that's not quite the same thing, it's more like the guys who stand around after being hit and then moan about being shot again (even if their teammate is shooting at us from behind them). However it does bring me back to my point, that I shot when I didn't have to because I was unsure and that's not the mindset we should be spreading.

One of my better upgrades as it removes the bite from the trigger guard ERGO Gapper

  12. Hi all, I've just completed another one of my son's guns his aug, basically the same as the others fitted a micro switch behind the trigger and used the g&g etu v3 MOSFET £35 bargain. Fitted the electric trigger into the V3 gearbox as normal, but cut the wires for the trigger and selector, ran the trigger wires to the trigger (obviously) then ran to wires rearwards too a separate selector switch in the butt. He used it for the 1st time a couple of weeks ago and said it was awesome, lol.

  13. Freshly purchased in a rather nice grey to use as the basis for a DMR. The stock, grip and handguard are plastic, but everything else is alloy or steel. Buffer tube, receiver, outer barrel, delta ring, sights, sling mounts, trigger, fire selector, charging handle, forward assist, rear sight and its adjusters are all metal. The receiver is a really good tight closure with no wobble there or in the barrel or grip, and there's not much in the stock. I've not had the gearbox apart yet, but there's blue goo lube in there, it's not too loud, and with a little squirt of silicone lube down the nozzle it's shooting at a respectable and consistent 1.07J / 340fps @ 0.2g on the M90 spring, so the air seal seems fine, as it should be with double-o-ring piston and cylinder heads and an o-ring nozzle. It's got the advertised rotary hop which seems very similar to the ZCI plastic rotary which works well, although the adjustment wheel isn't as secure. The hop rubber is generic, but it's got a style of hop nub that I've never seen before, semi-circular on top, but flat on the bottom and extended front-and-back to fill more of the length of the hop window. That seems to make sense and was a pleasant little surprise - it should work well with the s-hop that I'm going to inflict on it. The "enter and convert" QC gearbox is as described, the spring can be changed without taking the gearbox out, just get the buffer tube off. That's a bit of a chore to get off and back on, mind, and I'm just off to buy a properly long screwdriver. The wiring cable is stiff and doesn't want to coil up inside the buffer tube either, making shortening the stock rather difficult. Being wired to Deans via a basic Gate X-ASR mosfet is a great idea, and it's practically begging to have a Gate Warfet or MERF dropped in for 3 round bursts. The 275mm barrel is heavy brass and has no obvious internal blemishes, although it's not the neatest on the outside. It was well oiled internally and needed a thorough clean out using the supplied and usefully long cleaning rod. It's not all great though. The handguard is very disappointing, being a hard, cheap feeling plastic that's wobblier than a politician's promise. It's slightly bananad and the halves don't want to close up tightly - you can see that even on PatrolBase's advertising pictures. The wobble is down to the halves not gripping the delta star ring securely. I've bodged it all tight with electrical tape around the barrel, between the guard and the star ring, and whipped around to hold the guard tightly together. It's fixable, but shouldn't need to be. The tight interface at the rear of the receiver halves also made it a sod to get apart, I was looking for a pin that I thought I must have missed, but it's just the standard front pin. When it eventually did part company, I was using so much force that I managed to stretch the charging handle spring to an unusable length and snap the plastic part of the mechanism in half. My bad, fixable, and not a big deal. The secret is to lift the front of the upper receiver a faction, both during disassembly and reassembly. I can't really blame them for having achieved a secure fit. The no-screws latch mechanism on the bottom of the pistol grip is nice in principle but in practice the pinned latch just gets in the way, and it's not an area that really needs quick access anyway - I might replace the grip with something less clever. The Specna Arms "advanced" motor isn't that strong and the wiring is disappointingly thin. The motor height adjuster doesn't have a separate E-Z-Looze disk, which is a nice change. It's a good fit for the Specna Arms motor, but I had to do quite a bit of filing to get a slightly longer Big Dragon M140 to fit instead, and the bottom plate mechanism is unforgiving there, it either closes, or it doesn't. On balance, it seems decent enough out of the box, just clean the barrel and hop, plug in a Deans battery and go. I do have to flag up the poor handguard though, it's fixable, but that's no excuse. Would I recommend it? Provisionally, yes, pending playing with it. I don't expect it to be either poor or magical. Puff is consistent, the hop mechanism looks decent, the barrel is probably OK, although I'll be replacing both of those anyway. At £140 for a metal body and a set of decent air seal parts that sharply reduced the size and cost of my followup AK2M4 order, the value proposition is what sold it to me.

  15. Hope it works out, never tried the s-hop myself but i get the principle, if you're meaning the rtv gasket stuff surely that's gonna be too soft? I remember that stuff having the consistency of jelly. Honestly for a pistol? Either rubber (i tend to go for green- nice and grippy and pistol wont get the round count to wear out too soon) and whatever key fits most appropriately. Give it a decent barrel and feed it good ammo and that's all it'll ever need. You can get some stupid levels of accuracy/range out of pistols but there quickly comes a point where the limiting factor is more the ability to shoot well enough to make use of it.

  20. Nah - it would be the end of RIFs, but the 'game' would continue, albeit with two-tone guns. Whilst that will put certain players off, and the industry will take a hit as a result, but it wouldn't kill the hobby off completely.

  21. Whilst I'm not a fan of the Edge series, I think this blaster represents pretty decent value at £140. If there are no gearbox issues (check the cylinder around the air port for burrs and the tappet/piston rails for smoothness), then I reckon it could be a good base for upgrading. I'm not convinced by the longevity of the Gate X-asr (I have already nuked one) but that's a quick change. I reckon a good re-shimming, re-grease, hop rubber, an SHS Hi-torque and one of the new Perun hybrid units will make this a cool little death cannon. I'm not so sure the Gearbox shell will cope at DMR power. The Edge GB shell I have in front of me right now is thinner and lighter than other V2s I have knocking around. My Sons Edge now sports an E&C Gearbox and it added a good few ounces to the overall weight of the gun.

  22. Edge 2.0s start at £200 and upwards, and that's if they were in stock which they don't seem to be. That's my total budget, and I've come in under it with the DMR barrels, cylinder and spring. I know that Specna's QC and OEM have been patchy, but the EDGE 1 has all the parts that I want, and I'm prepared to take a gamble on the bearings and gears holding out for a bit. I'll be sure to flag up if I've guessed wrong.

That's what's funny about a certain section of airsofter compared to real steel. Real steel we want lighter with higher capacity, Airsoft I want it heaver with less capacity. Of drum mags actually worked reliably every soldier would be issued one.

  34. Consistency, effective range and a snappy trigger is what you want to be chasing. A DMR is there to reach out a bit further than the standard AEGs on the field and make the shots that the AEGs are finding hard to make. Basically, you want to be designing it the same way you'd build a BASR, just instead of the higher power and slow ROF, you're taking the middle ground between the AEGs and the BASRs with semi-auto fire rate, but also trading in an MED. From my experience, the Cyma m14 is a great platform to start from, but they're not an easy one to work on as the gearbox is horrendous to take apart, barrels have to be specifically designed for it because it's cut differently and AEG hop rubbers need cutting down because the hop up unit is unique and takes shorter rubbers (not VSR rubbers! They're AEG rubbers, but with about a centimetre or two cut from the end. However, they make for some pretty swanky looking DMR builds once completed because the rifle has that classic rifle style. I've built one of mine to look more sniper-y. It's a shame your budget is only around £250 - 300 though, as my advice would be HPA for a DMR, but it costs a pretty penny. It's where I'm going for my m14 after experiencing the silent consistency of my HPA BASR, and if you're not spamming the trigger (which you shouldn't be with a DMR anyway), you can get away with a small bottle in a stock pouch to avoid having lines everywhere. However, I will also give my honest thoughts and perhaps play devil's advocate: Seriously consider what you'll get from that extra 0.5J and consider what you're trading off. I personally don't see the point in DMR power these days. With how advanced hop ups have become and how much they affect our range and accuracy, the extra 0.5J isn't worth the MED for me. The extra 5m, maybe 10m if you're lucky, isn't worth a 30m MED, but if your local site has a 15 or 20m MED for DMRs I could see the viability more. I think designing a "DMR" style rifle around 1.1J is way better as you lose very little effective range, but you gain the flexibility of being able to shoot point blank if someone gets up close.
