    Gun picture thread

Something old, something new. Just picked up the ZP-19 from these forums and only had to add the suppressor as it came with everything else. The other AK is a Kreb's Custom AK made by Classic Army quite a few years ago. It's full Kreb trade marked and full steel.

  2. Well what can I say, other than I'm bored? Haven't played since I headbutted a rock, but still need to shoot things. As do my boys. We'd been shooting in the garden, using tin cans, at ground level. I had an epiphany - I was teaching my boys to shoot people's feet! Useless. So I immediately went out and bought a load of garden canes. I then stuck them in the ground all over the (enclosed) garden. I topped them off with a cat food tin and voila - one course of fire created for pennies! Sod these electric target systems - it was an absolute blast and cheap as chips. You can do all sorts of drills, lay them out in any order you want. The only limit is your imagination. Why dafuq I never thought of it before is beyond me. As the boys improve, I'll start designating different targets as pistol and rifle, so they can transition between the two. By the time they can actually play, they're going to be awesome 😄 Anyway... if you haven't, I can highly recommend it and if you have, I'm open to any further ideas to make it even better.

  3. If you've played a couple of times and had enough boolets and h2o, don't add a thing. PCs are for the look, all of mine are setup as if they were a chest rig anyway - some mags in a placard on the front and then just flanking the mags there's a small GP (phone, wallet and car key) and a smoke grenade pouch for a smoke or BFG. If you add stuff so it doesn't 'look bare' you'll spend the money, it'll be awkward and pointless and you'll most likely take it right back off again sooner or later. If you eventually *need* a radio or some pyro etc then get a couple of pouches if and when that time comes around, but not before. Where you are right now is what people often come back to after gradually ramping up what they carry, so just skip out the middle man if you can. I'd recommend to most folks for average skirmishes to just get the basics as you have, then over time put the money in to upgrading and replacing to 'move up' a fancy rig or camo etc if they happen to so desire and if they stick in the game long enough. Much better plan than carrying around a larger mass/volume of budget gear.

  4. My first loadout! Only skirmished twice in my own kit so far, but I don't have any complaints (touch wood) Tried to build it without breaking the bank. Most of it is bargain basement stuff. Only things I really splashed on a bit was the goggles (Valken Thermal Goggles) which are honestly immense and don't fog up at all, even on Saturday when it was a warm day. Carrier is 8fields I think, lid is an amazon special, pants are Viper (I did originally have some amazon specials too but they were shite and broke on first use). Any suggestions on things I could add? My plate carrier seems to look a little bare so I'll probably look to add a few little extra bits there, and I defo need a battle belt of some sort down the line as the thing I'm using right now is just a plain old clothes belt. Still I'm pretty happy with it for my first loadout I can't lie!

  5. That's a really cool idea. I'm very, very wary of what I do with my gnus in my back garden though, I wouldn't have the bravery to go for what you've done, in case the hits were too loud, or any BB's ricocheted into a neighbour's garden. I do my target practice from inside the house (to dampen the noise from the gun, and so no-one can see the RIF), and I'm shooting at old cat scratcher pads (think multiple layers of corrugated cardboard that trap many of the BBs, and absorb the impact well). I've got a 6' fence, with a big conifer directly behind that as my backstop, but I'm still slightly nervous every time I'm shooting.

  8. Material is mostly irrelevant, just like diametre or any other fancy "feature". The only thing that really matters in a barrel is the inner finish and, since the SSX uses a 6.02 Maple Leaf barrel, I'd argue it's more than good enough! To answer your question, no, you shouldn't replace the inner barrel. Also, bore diametre affects energy output for the most part, so a 6.01 will give you more Joules than a 6.03 (same length, same specs, same everything) and with gas operated guns this may result in more (or less if using a wider barrel) Joule Creep, so keep that in mind

  12. I used to keep the metal lids on jam jars, piece of masking tape with a number on each & hang them on the washing line with clothes pegs. Someone calls various numbers while the shooter then engages said numbered lid as quickly as possible, with the added bonus of an audible "ping" & a visible swing when hit, my lad used to love it & it definitely improved his abilities.

  13. There’s nothing wrong with learning to shoot feet ….. as part of practicing to shoot different targets (though in airsoft a boot shot is an easy one to ’not feel’) You won’t always be shooting from a stand up position against someone in a stand up position, practice for various sizes of targets in various positions / heights Dodgeball A two person exercise is dodgeball, which is practicing ‘first shot accuracy’ I’m a little blurred on the rules as they can be changed for your needs. Two players face to face, with guns down to their side (or pistols holstered etc) Take turns The target must stay in position, they may be allowed to lift one foot, but can lean to the side (hence dodgeball) The shooter raises their gun and shoots The target decides to stay still (think it’s going to miss) or can swerve (think its going to hit) Then depending on hit or miss: The target that has been hit loses use of a body part (eg first take a knee, next down on both knees, one arm behind their back (and can’t steady a rifle) Perhaps go as far as disabling both arms behind the targets back Once a target has taken their penalty it’s their turn to shoot The second shooter either inflicts penalties or restores their penalties : If you have taken a penalty then you restore your body part when you make a hit (If you’re restoring penalties then this could last a long time, but if you are just inflicting penalties then you see who knocks out the other first Once one player has no legs and arms then they reset, standup and you get closer or further away (Ideally make it harder, so the winner takes a step back, but you can also make it easier and the loser takes a step forward) If you’re doing step forward then it’s probably best that with every hit the shooter remains a shooter, and with every miss you change shooters Targets Set a line of targets which are each a little harder to hit (such as further away, smaller targets, etc) Set about 3 to 5 firing positions in front of each other Start in the middle firing position Shoot the nearest / easiest target If you hit then take a shot at the next If you miss take a step forward If you hit all targets take a step backwards Take your time to begin with plenty of aiming, once you can accurately hit all then speed up Once happy with a good speed then mix up the target order such as middle, near, far When you can accurately hit all sizes at all ranges whilst standing then you have to walk through, then next jog through (When moving shoot at the middle first, furthest then nearest to ensure that you have to change the distances you’re aiming while you go) On the moving run throughs start from a mid point. If you are missing then start nearer and if you are hitting then start further away & then speed up ((((Note that these exercises are even less suitable for gardens and are best suited for well controlled areas …. Such as on site)))

  16. It's certainly an option, I'd never tell anyone to not carry some water, does all depend on site size/game length as you say. I used to have bladders on my back more because that was haute couture in the late 00s, but what I do these days is drink loads between games and I'm fine at sunday skirmishes; the drinking matters more than the carrying. However I'm a bit of a water addict (I know, shocking) and always get through 2-4L on any normal day in work anyway so my routine is solid (no brews, nothing fizzy). For some folks they might get chatty between games and forget, whereas nobody likes me so that's not an issue. Put it this way, there's plenty of folks at almost every game with maybe a pistol and a hi-cap on a belt, their gun in hand and that's literally it. Sometimes not even that. At most games in the UK that's more than enough to actually participate. Now I love a bit of cordura as do most so some kit is fun, but do try and keep it slick. I mean there's equally some out there who love nothing more than lumbering around like the proverbial juggernaut, 1 bb still takes you out but they look pretty cool sometimes and that's their thing and I enjoy seeing what they put together. Unless you personally really wanna be that guy though, keep it light and simple, learn to appreciate that minimal aesthetic.
    1 point
  17. What Chris said. Also, do yourself a favour: Next time you play, when you get home lay all the kit you brought on the floor, then group all the items you've actually used on one side, you'll be amazed at how much unnecessary crap you carry Anyway, a rough estimate of what I always have on me (regardless of what gun or kit I run) is: 3/4 + 1 mags, bag of BBs, at least one litre of water, radio, multitool, small tin with adapters/programming card/Titan usb thingy, 1/2 spare AEG batteries in case someone forgets his, cigarettes, phone (not always) and car keys. Maybe a windshirt if it's really cold/very light rain. Odin if I run midcaps (rarely). Water, BBs (+ Odin) and radio in my backpack, the rest in a chest rig or belt kit. You really don't need more

  18. I see, that's good to know thanks for the heads up folks. In that case I'll just stick where I am and just grab a few more patches haha. I don't carry any water on me atm but I think I'll look at adding some capacity for that when I start playing at larger sites down the line. Probably get a bladder on the rear since its empty on the back anyway

  19. Fully agree with TheFull9. I've been into airsoft for over 20 years. I've had a bunch of PCs and chest rigs over the years. I'll often run a PC but it will be just mags, bombs and comms.

    3-5x Flip Magnifiers

I have a Vector Optics magnifier which is pretty good but the Element/Aim-O one I have is my go to (also in a FTC mount). Clear, adjusts well, cheap. Job jobbed.

  28. Don't wrap the battery, they all get warm under use. A patch of velcro on the inside of the stock and some on one side of the battery will stop it flipping about and won't stop it from cooling. A lot of quad plots used to do the same thing with 4s lipos.

    3-5x Flip Magnifiers

After playing around with a number of clones and being totally disappointed, I bought a Vortex 3x Magnifier: https://www.opticswarehouse.co.uk/vortex-vmx-3t-magnifier-with-flip-mount Yes, it is a chunk of money but the quality is outstanding, the lenses are crystal clear, the eye relief is unbelievable allowing quick target acquisition and of course the fully transferable Vortex lifetime warranty meaning it holds its resale value. I also run gas blowback rifles so that was also a factor in the decision.

    3-5x Flip Magnifiers

I've had one of these for 15 months now... https://www.combatsouth.co.uk/element-aim-o-g33-magnifier-x3-black/ ... and it's been spot on, using it on both my DMR and 1.14J AEG. The magnification has been doing exactly what I expected of it and also helping with my less than stellar ageing eyesight. I specifically went with this Aim-O clone as others had said the mount had zero wobble, and I've had none from it as well

    3-5x Flip Magnifiers

Worth doing further research on it but I used this during my flirt with magnifiers and was fairly impressed in combination with an FTC mount (my main issue with magnifiers prior to that being flip to side mounts). Ultimately landed on where I do with most things, that being I'd rather have specific tools for specific things, so ended up with a longer railed/outer barrel upper (purely for aesthetic reasons) with a perfectly serviceable LPVO (a Vector Optics Forrester if memory serves, a Vortex 1-6 clone which was about £70 when I picked it up). I have no doubt my astigmatism plays a part, but magnifying an already blurry red dot was zero help meaning the only time I actually got use out of it was if I turned the red dot off and used it purely for spotting/walking others shots in for them. For airsoft use I've found LPVOs work best for the woods, largely because the eye relief/eye boxes lend themselves better to the restrictions eye/face pro can put upon you versus a magnifier. With a 2 MOA dot being king anytime you don't feel mag is required... or you simply can't be bothered of the additional weight glass (and the mounts) bring with them.

  32. Sorry to hear the HW kit disappointed. I've got one of those unfashionably cheap Visionking 1.25-5 x 26 scopes and I have to say I'm very impressed with it, but it's the only one I've ever used, so nothing to compare it to except my old 4x32 Viking air rifle scope (It's better than that!) My daughter's boyfriend who does some hunting back at his home in Bulgaria was also impressed, and I think he's got a little experience of 'real steel' optics. So it's great, but it's quite a chunk of metal, and certainly weighs a fair bit. I've rather left it for use on my sniper rifle and any DMR I might care to build or buy in the future - in the meantime even with my astigmatic and enormously short-sighted vision, I can see well further than I can shoot, so I'm happy enough with my red dot sights

    Pulse Rifle

Latest purchase, Zoxna V2 mini launcher. The barrel diameter is pretty much spot on for the pulse rifle underslung. I'll need to mount the front part of the underslung differently as at the moment it opens to allow battery fitting. Then mount the Zoxna . Will require some faffing about but will be worth it to have the pulse rifle launcher working.

  36. brass can be susceptible to corrosion that a stainless barrel wouldn't, i've always leaned towards stainless for that reason although if you're keeping your barrel regularly cleaned it shouldn't make much difference. as for diameter, i wouldn't worry too much about it, overall barrel quality (ie the straightness, consistency of diameter and surface finish) of the barrel tend to be the more important factors. yes tighter diameters eg 6.01 can foul more quickly affecting accuracy, but this can be solved by regular cleaning. you're unlikely to be getting enough rounds through a mk23 to need mid-day cleaning if you're showing up with the bore spotless.

  37. I was at Gunman Tuddenham on Sat for the night game. All in all, a good evening. Start time keeps on slipping later and later from the aimed 7pm which is bit annoying but hey. Lots of friendly fire but typical of a night game. I just wish people would use the call and response properly. Yes, if you don't reply, I will assume you are NATO scum and shoot you. Sneaking through the village and trenches is a hell of a lot of fun.

  38. Did another game at gunman tuddenham and it seems I'm about to be a cheerleader for them again. Thoroughly impressed with the management team, ran a relatively complex game with a more advanced rule set, objective style etc and frankly they smashed it out of the park. The site has clearly invested in their terrain and made good use of the features already there. The variation of experience available has improved and consistent with what they're advertising. The game play was good, objectives well thought out and hit taking/sportsmanship very high as well. Add onto that, my little group played effectively as a team and it was about perfect.

Strike Industries TM MWS completed(?) Might experiment with a small red dot or something, but I can't see it changing much more than that. Started in March last year! Time flies. Love how it turned out. To match, also built a Strike Industries TM G17 (decided to not go with the EMG/G&P prebuilt one in the end). Waiting on a nicer red dot to arrive, but God knows when that will be. Make quite a nice pair!

    brands to avoid

Just to clarify, I probably should've added a smiley, or some such shit as it was intended to be tongue-in-cheek. I've had a bunch of WAS stuff, and still use my LPC, and a couple of pouches. However, if I compare WAS against the stuff I have from other 'real steel' brands, like Esstac, Platatac, C2R etc, it really can't compete. Of course Warrior is perfectly good for airsoft, but for the price of some of their range, you can get much more for your money imo.

In my experience of viper kit, the part that fails is their stitching. I've only had a few bits of viper kit but when they've failed it's always been in a corner of the stitching. I'm guessing they're cutting costs on thread quality and saving time not reinforcing those parts.

    Willpower, am I weak ?

Of course they would, but then they could always wear insignia/berets from another nation, something not so close to home that isn't immediately recognised, 99% certain the problem solved. Today's a good example, I'm emotional as fuck, it's either : A. I'm thinking about good friends passed, as well as everyone one else who stepped forward when others were backing away. Or B. I'm on the blob🤣 End of the day, if someone is determined to emulate specific genuine units, they should be prepared for potential criticism, or worse case, someone taking severe umbrage for the reasons I mentioned earlier, all for a bit of kit that will make absolutely no difference in your playing ability. Similar but hopefully less emotive scenario, my missus is a mad footy fan, completely obsessed with her team since her dad took her to her first game at 3 years old (she then went on to teach footy at secondary school level), I casually support her teams mortal enemies (we're both from North London, work it out😏), but every time she's wanted to put a sticker or other footy paraphernalia in our vehicles, I've said no way, all it takes is some pleb to take offence & scratch the motor or put a window in, its just not worth the aggro is it.

    Willpower, am I weak ?

It's not the equipment thats the issue, but cap badges & berets have to be "earned", & some are considerably harder to earn than others. Plus for many of those who have served there is usually an associated pride in your mother regiment, in its history & achievements, as well as the fact that comrades you have served with may have passed, either in the service of their country, or as we're becoming more aware of nowadays, succumbing to their demons due to the things they have witnessed or done in the name of service☹️. While I can't lay claim to heroic actions whilst serving, but many of my comrades did. & then years later, not long after I started airsofting, I witnessed an absolute shitshow of a team, nothing I could say positively about their on site behaviour. Nothing new there you might say, but every one of those twats was wearing (badly) my regimental cap badge & beret, for no other reason than that one of their members had allegedly served in a ta unit & still had backdoor access to some kit cheap😬. I was far from impressed & had to have a word, quite a few actually, some of them you wouldn't repeat to the vicar lol. 🤬 Sorry guys, didn't mean for this to get dark, but it's a genuine consideration that will trigger some players.

  50. Fuck you KWA. Turns out that KWA Pistons are oversized compared to normal AEG pistons by a couple of MM. Luke/Negative Airsoft mentioned this in the video I posted above but I figured it would be OK. I was wrong. So if you replace the stock piston with common (and reasobly priced!) XT/SHS fare - don't expect it to last very long. My XT piston died on Sunday with a lovely crunch as it somehow skipped over the sector gear. Investigating the fitment of the piston on the GB rails reveal that it's entirely possible that the piston can rotate several MM on it's axis AND up and down laterally. Three or four teeth are damaged - it doesn't look too bad in the photo but you can feel it when you run a nail over them - and the piston has dozens of stress fractures where the rack flexed over the sector gear. If you subscribe to Luke on Patreon - you will see that he now has several videos (not on YouTube) about KWA guns. Seems like there's also a tappet timing issue with some guns if you use 11.1v LiPos - causing huge power drops once things (like the tappet spring and plate) start to wear. Slowing the gun down with a 7.4v LiPo will see the power return - but that's a shit solution to a design flaw. Negative Airsoft is now adding a brass spacer to pre-load the tappet spring, removing the delayer chip, and cutting the tappet plate (DSG style) to speed up the forward nozzle movement. I will probably take the same route pre-emptively. Luckily he mentions a fix for the Piston in the shape of the Madbull PX02 - which is a near match for the stock piston in size. Problem is - they cost nearly £30 and are hard to get hold of...😒 So coming full circle - do I recommend this, or any other KWA gun? No. No I do not. Steer well clear. Or be prepared to spend a shit ton of money: £244 - Base gun £32 - replacement Motor (SHS) £110 - Gate Titan (yeah - I would say it's a pretty essential purchase for this gun because the stock switch/COL is terrible and impossible to get spares. No, Gate Asters or Peruns do not work without some sketchy modifications - the GB was built specifically around the Gate Titan) £7 Piston Head (XT) £30 Madbull Piston Total Cost (so far) - £423 *sigh*
