  3. That's the A2. Pre-2013 they were 12in (assaulter version). The gun I saw definitely wasn't 'new' but was in very good condition. No indication of any kind of sound suppressor, and was setup with pretty much the same kit as the L119A1 (Grip pod and ACOG with red dot). Definitely not setup for long range precision shooting (that's the L129's job). If I had to guess, it's employed for counter body-armour. That being said, I had less than 30 seconds with it and was more concerned with cocking, dry firing and looking through the sights, so it could have been a 13in version, but it only seemed fractionally longer than L119A1. In fact when I approached the stand I thought it was a '416 and took me a good couple of seconds to realise that it was it's 7.62 brother. Once I put the gun down and asked a few questions - it got nabbed and put into it's peli case. Anyway, cool day in the office.

  4. Hello everyone, I am professional propmaker, based in Austria, with a focus on airsoft-grade items such as helmets, armor as well as gun-modifications and soon even airsoft guns built from scratch. In this thread I would like to share with you some previous work and love to hear your thoughts on each piece. Also feel free to share your own work. If you need something made, I have a few standard items from the Halo Series available and I also do costum orders. Anything is possible. First one is my ODST setup. The helmet is a glassfibre-infused polyurethane cast with an active 50mm fan, external LED light modules, face illumination, side rails, NVG mount, tactical foam inserts, adjustable chin-strap. The visor is a 2mm polycarbonate visor, which withstands up to 520 fps bolt-action shots from point-blanque. The armor is MOLLE compatible and fits most plate carriers. It is also made from glassfibre-infused polyurethane. All the best, Alex

  5. Ask and ye shall receive: This is how it should be (with an eotech style sight) So basically the magnifier sits way too high to use with the open style reflex sights. You can pretty much just see the top frame of the sight in the magnifier.

  6. There’s an interesting blog post from ASG about their ‘Open Blaster’ bio BBs, and they touch upon the materials used to obtain the BB mass. https://actionsportgames.blog/2021/12/16/_can-you-have-truly-bio-bb/

    Bio BB questions..

The whole 'bio' bb thing is bullshit really; breaking down into microplastics quicker makes them worse for the environment, not better. Keeps clueless landowners happy but that's about it.

  8. Sorry to bump a month old one but it's about tools and I like tools. 😂 Grab yourself a decent set of wire strippers too, if you're doing a few connections. I have some rs ones that have survived about 10 years. I'll dig out the number in a bit. It's better than using side cutters (although I'm a sparky, so still use them a lot) and makes sure your 1.5mm cable is still 1.5 and not 1.3ish when you accidentally stri off strands. 👍

  13. Pre-game? Then yes, there's no point. Specifically, there's no point in pretending that 95% compliance solves the 5% of problems. The goal is to stop hot guns being used in-game, yes? Pre-game chrono doesn't ensure that. It helps the honest and compliant players to be honest, and to comply. I'm happy to use pre-game chrono as a facility. But I remain baffled as to how it's meant to stop the dis-honest and non-compliant from taking and using hot guns on the field, via any of the methods mentioned above. And aren't those people the problem that we're trying to solve? Related, does this sign actually prevent shootings? How, exactly?

  17. Spec Ops have always mandated Bio BBs and I think I've heard of just one instance of bits of a BB getting through a mesh mask in the (checks notes) 'several' times I've been there. It's a shame if they don't break down as we expect... I'm all for leaving the woodland environment and wildlife as undamaged and unaffected as reasonably possible. It could also be one more (small) thing to beat the sport down on.

  19. Lots of different opinions here, thanks for all the input! Novritsch sells a 1-4X scope, so that might be worth checking out? And there's also some cheaper options than Nov, like this one for example: https://www.taiwangun.com/scopes/victoptics-zod-1-4x20-riflescope-vector-optics Yes I wear glasses, and I got my eyes checked last year when I got contact lenses for airsoft. So that should not be the problem, good call though. Would that work with an open red dot that looks like this? Or would the distance between the magnifier and the dot be too big you think? I might get the cheap magnifier, or go for one of the 1-4 scopes, so I can easily switch between no zoom and 2 or 3 times zoom. Or I might get a cheap monocular... lots to think about!

  20. oh for sure, the few times i've ran irons i haven't had too much trouble making awkward shots, and for sure i would not rank myself as any kind of expert marksman, or for that matter a particularly good marskman at all but it's defo easier to do when both the sighting system and rif are working in your favour.

  21. What do RS users use for running/hiding/slinking game in forests? Usually a 1-4x20 scope with simple illuminated reticle. Use it both eyes open and practise your mount. Set to a low magnification, it will improve your spotting and hitting in deep cover with practice. Fieldcraft is still king though. Where would you appear if you were the opposing team? Look there and look for horizontal lines. Nature goes up, humans hold rifs horizontally.

  22. Not hard at all, just a strip with the fps figures the site limit for each commonly available weight of ammo. No faffing around changing chrono settings just compare the raw fps figure with the corresponding weight. And having some bags of ammo handy as you say, wouldnt even need mags (the punters after all would have them handy) just a sample range of speedloaders. A single standard weight for double checking would do just fine for most guns (ie aeg's) so its not like you'd be using a lot of the heavier/more expensive ammo as that'd only be needed to check joule creep susceptable platforms. But that would take effort.....

  24. Taking it in a different route, do you wear glasses? If not, how's your vision, and have you had an eye test recently? It could be something as simple as that. I struggled with spotting people at a distance for a while, until I finally found out I needed glasses. They made a world of difference once I did though!

  28. Best: 5.11 CAMS bag (tldr a 190l bag with wheels, essentially a massive suitcase). Fits all my kit in bar my RIFs and saves so much time, space and energy. Worst: Every bolt action RIF I've ever purchased, because I know all too well at this point that I enjoy building them more than I enjoy using them... and you loose a shit load on them when they're inevitably sold.

  31. best? odin m12, the one bit of kit that could spoil a gameday merely by its absence. although if we're limiting it to guns then it'd be a tie between the WE makarov and the jg aksu, both might have had their foibles (makarov didn't like the cold and the jg was a bit lacking in the externals department) but damn if they weren't decent bb lobbers and fun to actually use. worst? hmm, tie between the cybergun 1911 and the we luger. the 1911 couldn't hit the broadside of a barn, assuming you managed to get it to work long enough to fire more than a couple of rounds that is, the luger at least worked, for a couple of rounds if the weather was nice, and at least shot in a straight line, for about 20 feet thanks to no hop....

  32. Best: Double Eagle M906C. It's been brilliant ever since I bought it. (Apart from the stock spring losing its oomph, which cost all of £12 to replace) My TM Hi Capa DOR has been smile-inducing too, so that gets a big 'Honourable Mention'... that was a good value purchase as well. Worst: Actually there's nothing I totally regret... I suppose my Tippmann M4 might be considered the biggest disappointment. As it's my most expensive purchase - perhaps a bit overpriced - I rather expected it would be my best gun. It's not there yet, but there's still hope I'll get it fettled eventually, and it'll become my true primary. Oh yeah, I bought a set of Lonex flash mags. Great bits of kit, but the one gun they don't seem very compatible with is ... the DE M906. They unwind as soon as they're inserted. Damn them. Hopefully a bit of packing or filing will sort them out. EDIT: It seems I wasn't putting enough BBs into the flash mags... once they're filled up properly and then wound up, they fit in all my guns without unwinding. Result! And a lesson that 'testing' and 'using for real' are useless when they're very different - in this case my test was useless!

  34. Definitely look at the victoptics one instead of the Nov one. Very good glass for the price. The G33 style magnifier is designed to work with eotech style sights so I doubt it would line up properly with that red dot. I do have both though so I can set them up and check if you like?

    Bio BB questions..

Thank you, that's admirably honest of them. It's great to know that their Mystery Mass is is barium sulphate, although disappointing that they're still using so much styrene as well. On one hand, I hope that landowners don't read that. On the other, BBs are only going to get more biodegradable if landowners, sites and players demand it, and don't just accept that "bio" on the bottle actually means that.

  37. Made in Germany. 7.62mm. 12in Barrel (mental). Looked barely used so probably not an SF Cast-off. Only non-SF unit to be issued them in the UK so that's why they didn't want them pictured for OPSEC (their words). There's quite a few gun enthusiasts and ex-army guys on campus, so they realised pretty quickly that they probably shouldn't have put it on display in the first place. The Glock 19 was quite surprising to me. No idea any of these were in use within the Army.

  38. I spent far too long evening after evening looking at all the various options, and finally decided on this and don't regret the purchase one bit, especially at only £60 (if they did a 5x one, if that would be possible, I'd snap that up as well).

  39. It has to be said that using a scope effectively takes both practice and some luck/knowledge when it comes to gunfit and scope alignment. Possibly why, valid preferences aside, some don't get on with it or don't give it a chance when it doesn't work for them first time. A largeish eyebox (the physical space where your eye can be and get a sight picture through the scope) should probably be added to the list of attributes an 'assault' scope should have. If you can't mount up and immediately find that eyebox then you're gonna have a bad time. I tried a leapers 'bugbuster' clone airgun scope on my G36c when I first took it out; it was totally unsuitable - too narrow a field of view, too small an eyebox. So you need the *right* scope. And mounted in such a way and with the stock adjusted so that you can mount the rifle with your eyes closed, open them, and have a clear sight picture every time without having to adjust your head to get it. This isn't always easy to achieve with certain gun setups, it's certainly not likely to happen by chance by putting any old scope and any mounts on any gun. Through whatever combination of factors (the main one being that it's designed for this gun I suppose) the (goodish clone) ACOG on my M4 specifically really works for me, so I suppose I should give that caveat. Oddly although I've used it plenty in the past, I went through the whole of Sundays game without shooting through the dot at all - spent the whole day looking through the scope, just found it more practical.

  41. Let's be honest, if you were attempting to run a professional site, how hard would it be to have some laminated sheets at a permanent chrono point for immediate reference, along with a selection of proven weight, decent quality bb's & one each of most platform mags. I never get why most sites call people to a hastily prepared chrono, usually balanced on the edge of a makeshift range, & usually manned by one lone Marshall while all the other Marshall's stand together in the safezone swapping war stories & generally doing feck all 🤬

  42. For sure, people always ask where I got my taste in music from and I had no idea until scrolling through some old posts on here that I realised.

  43. I know exactly what you mean having struggled with this myself! As others have already suggested it's not always about needing magnification but knowing what you're actually looking for. Most people will look for a person shaped thing to identify as a person. In woodland games you need to look for movement, colours that don't quite match up with the surroundings, strangely angular things in a natural environment. Now, a magnified optic may help you learn what you're looking for by making it a bit easier to see, but building up situational awareness and knowing what to look for is something that just has to be learned over time.
    1 point
  44. A zoomed optic may help in sporting but you do reduce your field of view, so where you will spot one you will miss another. It maybe better to just slow down a little pause and look. What you are looking for is not people so much but movement. Use your whole filed of view for movement, once spotted zone onto it confirm if it's a target or not and act accordingly. This process can just take a single second once practiced. Also while taking in the your whole field of view you will most likely spot more than one set of movements so you are more aware of where things can be coming from. For the ranges we play in optics can help but being aware of your surroundings is much more useful. K

  45. Spot on. I'd be pissed off being spot chronoed with a depleted uranium BB...
    1 point
  46. Bear in mind that the legal definition of an airsoft gun is based on what it's "capable" of with "any missile". So sites could make an argument along those lines, and test with a variety of BB weights, and with the hop dialled to various settings. You could even test what an HPA rig can do with the regulator dialled to 11 - I wonder how many folk are turning up with Section 5 firearms. Their site, their rules. But they need to explain what ze rules actually are. They're demonstrably not clear, or consistent, and actually contradict their own published contract.
    1 point
  47. I don't know what this statement means. Is that referring to the BBs that are made available at the chrono? I ask... ... because of that. If they're going to have a zero-tolerance policy towards guns (something I actually agree with, especially for HPA), they should apply a similar high standard to their own communication and pre-game testing. That's if the goal is to actually keep everything below their limits, rather than to have the thrill of shouting "Hah, gotchya!" and punting punters.
    1 point
  48. Wellll.... I approve of sites doing regular spot checks all through the day, using their own BBs, and heavy ones at that. But. If they're going to do that, they need to be absolutely clear about it so that you can tune for it, and provide them at pre-game chrono as well. Mugging people with a surprise weight is a cad's trick. And it's a peculiar weight at that. If they're really concerned about what over-volumed guns can creep up to by loading heavier BBs, they should be using 0.4g or even heavier. Sounds like another site owner who has formed a muddled but adamant opinion, and now won't be swayed by reason or logic. Sadly, there's no critical thinking test for running a site. [EDIT] Oh, this lot? https://firstandonlyevents.co.uk/first-and-only-airsoft-rules/ I've ranted about that "actual" and "variance" utter gibberish before. What a bizarrely over-complicated way of saying that they have a 1.1J limit for AEGs[*], but 1J for HPA. And they explicitly say "All our Chronographs are measured with 0.2g ASG bbs", so why would you tune for anything else? [*] Also, they don't seem to know that 350fps on 0.2g is 1.13J or 1.14J, not 1.1J, so it's not even clear which figure they'd use. I'm calling Dunning-Kruger on that.
