Cool toys at work (Real steel content)
Jacob Wright and 3 others reacted to Speedbird_666 for a topic
That's the A2. Pre-2013 they were 12in (assaulter version). The gun I saw definitely wasn't 'new' but was in very good condition. No indication of any kind of sound suppressor, and was setup with pretty much the same kit as the L119A1 (Grip pod and ACOG with red dot). Definitely not setup for long range precision shooting (that's the L129's job). If I had to guess, it's employed for counter body-armour. That being said, I had less than 30 seconds with it and was more concerned with cocking, dry firing and looking through the sights, so it could have been a 13in version, but it only seemed fractionally longer than L119A1. In fact when I approached the stand I thought it was a '416 and took me a good couple of seconds to realise that it was it's 7.62 brother. Once I put the gun down and asked a few questions - it got nabbed and put into it's peli case. Anyway, cool day in the office.4 points -

Popular Videogame Airsoft Helmets & Armor (Halo, Titanfall, Stalker, etc.)
Rogerborg and 2 others reacted to printingtherevolution for a topic
Hello everyone, I am professional propmaker, based in Austria, with a focus on airsoft-grade items such as helmets, armor as well as gun-modifications and soon even airsoft guns built from scratch. In this thread I would like to share with you some previous work and love to hear your thoughts on each piece. Also feel free to share your own work. If you need something made, I have a few standard items from the Halo Series available and I also do costum orders. Anything is possible. First one is my ODST setup. The helmet is a glassfibre-infused polyurethane cast with an active 50mm fan, external LED light modules, face illumination, side rails, NVG mount, tactical foam inserts, adjustable chin-strap. The visor is a 2mm polycarbonate visor, which withstands up to 520 fps bolt-action shots from point-blanque. The armor is MOLLE compatible and fits most plate carriers. It is also made from glassfibre-infused polyurethane. All the best, Alex3 points -
Bio BB questions..

The whole 'bio' bb thing is bullshit really; breaking down into microplastics quicker makes them worse for the environment, not better. Keeps clueless landowners happy but that's about it.3 points -

Sorry to bump a month old one but it's about tools and I like tools. ? Grab yourself a decent set of wire strippers too, if you're doing a few connections. I have some rs ones that have survived about 10 years. I'll dig out the number in a bit. It's better than using side cutters (although I'm a sparky, so still use them a lot) and makes sure your 1.5mm cable is still 1.5 and not 1.3ish when you accidentally stri off strands. ?3 points -

If I've said it once, I've said it a hundred times... or at least I will do given sufficient time. I'm immensely relaxed about chrono spats. Heck, I might even do some flowcharts.2 points -
Pre-game? Then yes, there's no point. Specifically, there's no point in pretending that 95% compliance solves the 5% of problems. The goal is to stop hot guns being used in-game, yes? Pre-game chrono doesn't ensure that. It helps the honest and compliant players to be honest, and to comply. I'm happy to use pre-game chrono as a facility. But I remain baffled as to how it's meant to stop the dis-honest and non-compliant from taking and using hot guns on the field, via any of the methods mentioned above. And aren't those people the problem that we're trying to solve? Related, does this sign actually prevent shootings? How, exactly?2 points

Spec Ops have always mandated Bio BBs and I think I've heard of just one instance of bits of a BB getting through a mesh mask in the (checks notes) 'several' times I've been there. It's a shame if they don't break down as we expect... I'm all for leaving the woodland environment and wildlife as undamaged and unaffected as reasonably possible. It could also be one more (small) thing to beat the sport down on.2 points -

Would a zoom optic on an AEG make any sense?
RostokMcSpoons and one other reacted to Harvem for a topic
Lots of different opinions here, thanks for all the input! Novritsch sells a 1-4X scope, so that might be worth checking out? And there's also some cheaper options than Nov, like this one for example: https://www.taiwangun.com/scopes/victoptics-zod-1-4x20-riflescope-vector-optics Yes I wear glasses, and I got my eyes checked last year when I got contact lenses for airsoft. So that should not be the problem, good call though. Would that work with an open red dot that looks like this? Or would the distance between the magnifier and the dot be too big you think? I might get the cheap magnifier, or go for one of the 1-4 scopes, so I can easily switch between no zoom and 2 or 3 times zoom. Or I might get a cheap monocular... lots to think about!2 points -

oh for sure, the few times i've ran irons i haven't had too much trouble making awkward shots, and for sure i would not rank myself as any kind of expert marksman, or for that matter a particularly good marskman at all but it's defo easier to do when both the sighting system and rif are working in your favour.2 points -

What do RS users use for running/hiding/slinking game in forests? Usually a 1-4x20 scope with simple illuminated reticle. Use it both eyes open and practise your mount. Set to a low magnification, it will improve your spotting and hitting in deep cover with practice. Fieldcraft is still king though. Where would you appear if you were the opposing team? Look there and look for horizontal lines. Nature goes up, humans hold rifs horizontally.2 points -

Not hard at all, just a strip with the fps figures the site limit for each commonly available weight of ammo. No faffing around changing chrono settings just compare the raw fps figure with the corresponding weight. And having some bags of ammo handy as you say, wouldnt even need mags (the punters after all would have them handy) just a sample range of speedloaders. A single standard weight for double checking would do just fine for most guns (ie aeg's) so its not like you'd be using a lot of the heavier/more expensive ammo as that'd only be needed to check joule creep susceptable platforms. But that would take effort.....2 points -

Taking it in a different route, do you wear glasses? If not, how's your vision, and have you had an eye test recently? It could be something as simple as that. I struggled with spotting people at a distance for a while, until I finally found out I needed glasses. They made a world of difference once I did though!2 points

Crimping Tool
Egon_247 reacted to Dan Robinson for a topic
I have those cheap ones from amazon linked above and they're great for the job too. I like those knipex ones as they're one of those few multitools that do all the jobs properly. The only real difficiency is that you don't have a proper mechanism to crimp to the appropriate torque. But I've not burnt any houses to the ground yet. My other crimping related toys are: Bootlace Ferrule Crimping Tool STD AWG23-7/0.25-10mm² Self-Adjustable Ratchet Wire Crimper with 1350PCS Crimp Connectors,Ferrule Crimper Plier Set https://amzn.eu/d/bdm5x4z Hilka 28600209 Ratchet Crimping Tool Pro Craft https://amzn.eu/d/fa0d99P And in total airsoft (spending money for the sake of fancy shit) stylee: https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/crimp-tools/0452473 The ironic thing is I'm a sodding plumber not a cable strangler. ????1 point -

@heroshark does some pretty great eye protection if you can get along with mesh. You get far more visibility with his stuff than normal mesh and I've got a pair with prescription inserts that I keep for when it's a really foggy day and my Revision Sawflys start fogging (which in itself is fairly rare...) Speaking of which, Revision Sawflys are really good. A bit pricey, but quality eye protection is worth every penny spent. I'm also looking to get myself a set of their Desert Locust goggles with prescription inserts and the inbuilt fan to try and combat fogging for a fully covered CQB loadout that I want to put together at some point. They are super expensive, but as I said, quality eye protection is always worth it.1 point

Best is definitely the Wolverine Bolt for my VSR. It got me into HPA sniping and it really changed the game on how well my VSR performs. Absolutely amazing piece of kit! Worst is probably... any of the random sale items I bought thinking "that's a good price and I might use it in the future" and then never used and relegated to my kit bag. Fortunately it's not that much, but it doesn't change the fact that they were awful purchases.1 point

Best: 5.11 CAMS bag (tldr a 190l bag with wheels, essentially a massive suitcase). Fits all my kit in bar my RIFs and saves so much time, space and energy. Worst: Every bolt action RIF I've ever purchased, because I know all too well at this point that I enjoy building them more than I enjoy using them... and you loose a shit load on them when they're inevitably sold.1 point

Best - There's a few bits of kit or guns that could fit the bill here, but actually thinking about it, the one that I've taken to pretty much every skirmish for at least the last 10 years has been my mesh face mask. I *think* it was one of the original Black Bear ones (seem to recall having to order it from Russia or similar) and it's undoubtedly saved me from injury a bunch of times. TM MK23 and GSPEC are also strong contenders just from how much use I've had from them. Worst... I have made a *lot* of poor purchasing decisions. I've managed to buy both M249's and M4's twice and sink money into them before getting frustrated. However, I think the G36 I got as a project gun that I was completely unable to get feeding properly is the worst, but the Wolverine SMP was a close second.1 point -

best? odin m12, the one bit of kit that could spoil a gameday merely by its absence. although if we're limiting it to guns then it'd be a tie between the WE makarov and the jg aksu, both might have had their foibles (makarov didn't like the cold and the jg was a bit lacking in the externals department) but damn if they weren't decent bb lobbers and fun to actually use. worst? hmm, tie between the cybergun 1911 and the we luger. the 1911 couldn't hit the broadside of a barn, assuming you managed to get it to work long enough to fire more than a couple of rounds that is, the luger at least worked, for a couple of rounds if the weather was nice, and at least shot in a straight line, for about 20 feet thanks to no hop....1 point -

Best; my TM Hi Capa. Had it about 10 years, absolutely shot the bollocks out of it doing practical pistol (using black gas too) and it's still going, albeit with a few spares here and there. Regularly used to drop the mags on hard floors doing speed reloads, think I've had to replace one set of feed lips and one floor plate. When I get around to setting up my 'blackbeard' all-pistol loadout it will probably be my primary. Worst; probably that horrible molle vest plate carrier thing I bought, against advice, before my first skirmish.1 point -

Best: Double Eagle M906C. It's been brilliant ever since I bought it. (Apart from the stock spring losing its oomph, which cost all of £12 to replace) My TM Hi Capa DOR has been smile-inducing too, so that gets a big 'Honourable Mention'... that was a good value purchase as well. Worst: Actually there's nothing I totally regret... I suppose my Tippmann M4 might be considered the biggest disappointment. As it's my most expensive purchase - perhaps a bit overpriced - I rather expected it would be my best gun. It's not there yet, but there's still hope I'll get it fettled eventually, and it'll become my true primary. Oh yeah, I bought a set of Lonex flash mags. Great bits of kit, but the one gun they don't seem very compatible with is ... the DE M906. They unwind as soon as they're inserted. Damn them. Hopefully a bit of packing or filing will sort them out. EDIT: It seems I wasn't putting enough BBs into the flash mags... once they're filled up properly and then wound up, they fit in all my guns without unwinding. Result! And a lesson that 'testing' and 'using for real' are useless when they're very different - in this case my test was useless!1 point -

Thank you, that's admirably honest of them. It's great to know that their Mystery Mass is is barium sulphate, although disappointing that they're still using so much styrene as well. On one hand, I hope that landowners don't read that. On the other, BBs are only going to get more biodegradable if landowners, sites and players demand it, and don't just accept that "bio" on the bottle actually means that.1 point

Bio BB questions..
Egon_247 reacted to Adolf Hamster for a topic
as above it doesn't seem to be the "bio" aspect is the issue for shattering so much as the overall quality of the bb. there was a chap called gasman had a thread on here a while back where he tested a bunch of bb's and rated them, including crush testing them.1 point -
Interesting. My understanding was that traditionally BBs were made of ABS, and only bios use PLA. However, that's apocryphal and historical. It might make sense for manufacturers to use a single base material, i.e. PLA. Of course, adulterated with increasing amounts of Mystery Mass: 6mm of ABS would only be about 0.12g, and 6mm of PLA about 0.2g. Any BB can shatter, and "bio" BBs aren't likely to be worse than ABS for biodegradability (even if the truth is that they take decades or hundreds of years to fully break down in woodland). Since bios work well enough now, and don't cost a huge amount more, I'm OK with following sites' preferences. If they're mandating bios and getting issues with shattering, that's up to them to track and make the call. Aside, I would flag up that the sites that should be mandating bios are indoors CQB sites. Why? Because they can sweep them up and have them industrially composted, which will actually break them down. Better that than dumping tonnes of ABS (or even PLA) into general landfill.1 point
