    What have you made?

My first ever leather project. I wanted old fashioned flap holster for my shadow 2 with torch. Couldn't find one so I designed and made it been using it in few games already and is still in one piece. I call that a success

  2. Op the best out of the box gun is the one where you spend 2mins removing the upper and swapping out the hop rubber for a maple leaf 50 or 60 and the matching omega nub. This can be done by the most noobie of noobies and requires literally no skill or knowledge of AEG's to achieve. Remove two bolts, lugs. Gently pull upper forwards. Remove hop from barrel, bish bash bosh. You have the most accurate AEG achievable. Personally I would avoid recoils like the plague, they are piss poor power out the box and a whore to work on compared to every other AEG on the market. I would look at a https://www.patrolbase.co.uk/specna-arms-daniel-defense-mk18-sa-e19-edge I got one of these second hand an upgrade the hop and spring in under 5mins. It is as good as my 1k Recoil that I sold because they keep breaking after you up the power and ROF. Really any AEG with the hop upgraded is going to more accurate than any out of the box AEG and it is sooooo simple to do. SO SIMPLE! Don't drink the TM Recoil coolaid.

  6. Hit the nail on the head there. I remember playing against one of the AI staff and he was ignoring multiple hits from several players (at under 50ft away. We could see the shots bouncing off him) to get in a place he knew we weren't allowed to shoot at him, before blindly throwing home made pyros around. One of which caused several hundred pounds worth of damage to someone's M249. It's saddening to see they haven't changed and so I'll continue to boycott them

  7. I do a mix of both when sniping. I am a camping bush wanker though which sounds like a steady number but staying in the same spot / hide for a while takes its toll on my knees and my post op herniated disc. My lower back fatigues really quickly, so peaking corners in CQB environments causes me just as much grief.

  8. One of the good things about airsoft is that there are so many different ways to play. If you want to charge about like a mad bugger you can, or if you want to take things easy you can. I don't know of any specific disabled teams, but I know there's many players with varying degrees of disability so I'm sure you'll fit in at whatever site you play at

  9. I don't disagree but in the UK if you are running rental power, you will be out range by everyone else on the field. The stock hop on the stock TM is fine but it struggles to lift heavier rounds and even getting to it compared to a normal AEG is a pain in the fucking tit. Don't get me wrong. I am not against expensive AEG's. I am currently sitting here refurbishing all my PTW Pmags

  10. really depends on your definition of best. whilst the tm's reputation is mighty, it's not the only gun on the market that shoots well ootb. however as @Groot and @Rogerborg point out a few minor tweaks to a cheaper guns can get them up to that level, especially when you also give them good food.

    What have you made?

Does this count as 'making something'? I looked for like a general development/DIY topic but this is the closest. Magnetized the grip rubber because it uses two very long screws which take forever to get out for swapping battery etc. Worked out better than expected. Gonna chop some bolt heads off and glue them to the back so it looks like they're in.

  13. Hi @Oshb5 Sorry to hear you're having knee and hip probs but try not to let that hold you back because as @Cannonfoddersays you can play at your own pace and within your capabilities and still get the adrenalin pumpin'. For instance, this Sunday just gone,I was sat in the radio shack at greenops defending a flashing light. I sat right in the corner for nearly 45mins listening to bangs and incoming fire, knowing they were coming for me. I was bricking it lol. I got three before they mk5'd me! But the point is I didn't do any running around but it was great fun.🙂 Whereabouts are you located. Ucap greenops is only a relatively small site but plenty of scope for different play styles. Now I think about it most the players there are disabled in one way or another. Mentally or financially.I'm both🤪 lol Regards

  15. You’re missing one big sticking point here about TM RIFs: they’re made for a specific market only (Japan) with super fine tolerances due to the specifics of said market (regulations). Picking up any TM gun with the intent to upgrade it is akin to taking a finely crafted katana and trying to add bits of steel to it “ to improve its performance”: it’s pointless and will ruin the reliability of said weapon. As long as you know what you’re buying and you’re fine with it (out-of-the-box performance and reliability), then TM is a perfectly fine choice. It won’t throw 100m but it’s not exactly why people buy them in the first place.

  17. @Rogerborg Interesting that they have referenced paintball in permitted activities along with airsoft. The Home Office have covered off similar interpretation with the UKPSF, (along with many caveats of subject to being presented and tested in court) but the skirmishing defence document explicitly states airsoft. I shall retain that in my library of useful stuff the purposes of organising or taking part in certain “permitted activities” relates generally to “airsoft” events but can also include paintballing.

  18. tbf, you'd be surprised how often you can tag people who just stand around thinking you can't hit them whilst i do agree, hpa isn't strictly a magic bullet. it still requires the rest of the system (hop, barrel, ammo, etc) to be of a good standard. it will also need dialed in properly, whilst this is easier to do than aeg's they can also be a lot fussier especially with voluming. certain systems, specifically the polarstar jack/F1 open-bolt systems can have real accuracy issues (as in worse than a decent aeg) due to the way they work, with the likes of the F2/Fusion being a bit higher end (ie over-budget). i can't comment on the wolverine stuff having never used it, but they claim closed bolt operation so probably the better pick for this case. of course that's assuming you're happy to deal with the air line (which isn't so bad), weight of the tank (which can be a pain sometimes), getting air (which can be easy if the site does refills or a real problem if they don't) and more importantly the de-facto hatred from other players.

  20. There are a few of my friends who won't even change the hop rubber. They have the idea that it should work fine out of the factory and shouldn't have to spend any more money to make it work better. They also moan a lot about people not taking their hits, at 60m, with their totally stock £120 Nuprol M4.

  21. True that, 0.28g is the minimum that I use in woodland now. And keep your expectations realistic: no amount of money, or belief, will prevent your BBs being effected by wind, rain, or foliage, and nor will they make your targets just sit still and wait for them. I'm perfectly happy and competitive with AEG toys in the £75-£140 range, plus the aforementioned hop rubbers and barrels. Aftermarket motors add snappiness and rate of fire. After that it's about BBs, getting the hop dialled in, and where you point it. If I were going to spend £500 on an airsoft toy, and the goal was maximum accuracy, i.e. maximum consistency, I'd forget about AEGs and think about trying-then-buying a used HPA package.

  25. A nuance: the VCRA provides a defence to the offence of importing a RIF. A defence is not a licence to do so, although Border Farce have historically chosen to treat it as such. They could choose not to at any point. At least that's according to what's presented has as Border Force Operations Manual here https://basc.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/downloads/2013/02/imitation-firearms.pdf "The VCRA sets out a number of defences to prosecution which although do not technically apply at the point of import it is UK Border Agency policy to apply them to private individuals as if they did." The caveat is that there's no document number on it, or anything that could be used to verify that it is, or was, an actual Border Farce document, so you couldn't even cite it to them.

  28. Laws: If it is a UK legal airsoft gun as defined in Firearms legislation then only the VCRA applies to the type of RIF/IF The VCRA requires a defence to import RIFs. Eg airsoft skirmishing. One method of proving that is the UKARA, and that is recognised by the Home Office/Border Force etc UKARA is a third party retailer scheme, under which players are registered via site membership schemes If its an IF then no defence is required The other concern is financial, and whether import VAT or import duty are required, which relate to the item classification and value In the Eurotunnel/Euro shuttle there may be carriage policies. They require firearms to be declared, all the relevant documentation and that it is secured https://www.eurotunnel.com/uk/legal/carriage-of-firearms-and-fireworks/ As hinted above an airsoft gun used to be a ‘low power air weapon’, but a revised definition was made in firearms legislation which took UK legal airsoft guns out of that definition. Euro tunnel may or may not treat it as an air weapon / firearm. If they do then you could carry it but needed to declare it They might or might not. That’s the game that smugglers play with Border Force. They may randomly check, check on a targeted basis or check that things are in accordance with declarations If by ‘the car that you brought it in’ you mean that you have taken a RIF abroad and are returning then they may still check. You would not owe import VAT or import duty as you have taken something out and returned - but if it looks new and you didn’t declare it when exporting then they may charge you for an import If you are unable to justify why you are importing a RIF, and can’t show ‘intent to use it at insured skirmishing sites’ then it could be confiscated

  29. Interesting results, always good to keep a few orings of different sizes around since the inner diameter of cylinders varies as much from 23.6mm to 24mm.
    1 point
  30. A lot of attention is paid towards various components when tuning performance in an AEG, but it seems piston head O-rings are often overlooked beyond merely testing that they seal against the cylinder. A typical piston head O-ring measures about 24mm outer diameter, like these ones: https://www.ak2m4.co.uk/internal-parts/pistons-heads/piston-head-o-ring-19.5mm https://www.ak2m4.co.uk/internal-parts/pistons-heads/piston-head-o-ring-viton-19mm However for some time now I've been wondering if it's actually better to use slightly smaller O-rings, somewhere around 23.7-23.8mm, or perhaps even a bit smaller than that (as close as possible to or just a tiny bit smaller than the diameter of the cylinder; if it's a tiny bit smaller the pressure ahead of the piston & air flow through the ports in the piston head should expand it to seal completely once it's moving at speed). The idea being to reduce losses due to friction and allow the piston to gain slightly more energy before compression begins. This is because a few years ago after performing maintenance on my TM P90RD and replacing the piston head O-ring that I thought was worn out with a new "good" one, I noticed it had lost a significant amount of power. Putting the "bad" O-ring back in put the power back up to where it was supposed to be... I subsequently discovered that while the "bad" O-ring didn't seal when tested the usual way (which is what made me initially conclude that it was bad), it would actually seal just fine when the piston was moving fast enough. I've since noticed this effect with my other guns too, although none of those have managed to reach the performance of my P90RD (which just about manages 340fps on an SP90 spring while the others do a little over 330). I recently decided to test this, so I bought some O-rings that are supposed to be 23.74mm outer diameter and have now tested them alongside some other piston head O-rings. The test gun is a TM P90TR with: ZCI 6.02mm barrel (247mm) Prometheus purple hop rubber & bucking (hop is not properly set but remained unchanged throughout the tests) Guarder air seal nozzle Guarder enhanced stainless steel cylinder head Guarder enhanced cylinder, 3/4 type Deep Fire aluminium piston head Tokyo Marui stock piston Guarder SP90 spring Deep Fire (I think) bearing spring guide Guarder steel bushings IRF2804 MOSFET Blade fuse Deans connector Each O-ring tested was given a very light surface coating of silicone oil before being coated in TechT Gun Sav and installed on to the piston head. Before testing the gearbox was cycled a few times without the upper receiver/barrel assembly to clear any excess grease out of the nozzle & prevent any finding its way into the barrel and risk affecting the results. BioSphere 0.2g BBs were used for testing, 10 shots were fired for each test and the average value used. These are the results (O-ring size measurements are approximate as they're never perfectly round): Lees Precision Engineering piston head O-ring 24mm (19mm inner diameter/2.5mm cross-section): 322 fps (min 319.6, max 323.5) This is a standard size good quality O-ring that comes with LPE piston heads, with the result being about what I expected. Deep Fire 'super' O-ring (measured ~23.8mm OD, 2.6mm cross-section): 332.6 fps (min 330.9, max 334.2) This is what came with the Deep Fire aluminium piston head that's currently in the P90TR. It is a brown colour and feels softer than most other O-rings in addition to being slightly smaller, and there is much less resistance when moving the piston through the cylinder. With this O-ring the gun has an extra ~10fps over the LPE O-ring. Uxcell "23.74mm (18.5mm/2.62mm)" O-ring #1 (actually ~23.9mm-ish): 322.9 fps (min 320.4, max 324.7) This is one of the O-rings I got recently specifically for these tests. I was very surprised by this result, so I checked its size and found that it was larger than specified - around 23.9mm OD. I then measured the rest of the O-rings in the pack and found that all of them measured closer to 23.9mm. I tried again with the smallest one I could find. Uxcell "23.74mm (18.5mm/2.62mm)" O-ring #2 (actually ~23.85mm-ish): 325.6 fps (min 323.1, max 328.3) This time there was a more notable improvement over the standard O-ring, but still not close to the performance of the Deep Fire O-ring. I next went through the O-rings in my spares box to find ones measuring towards the smaller end, and did manage to find a couple that were closer to the size I was looking for: Unknown origin O-ring #1 ~23.8mm (2.4mm CS): 333.3 fps (min 330.3, max 334.7) Unknown origin O-ring #2 ~23.8mm (2.4mm CS): 333.1 fps (min 331.5, max 334.7) These both are about the same size as the Deep Fire O-ring that performed very well, and their performance was about the same too... I was unsure how much of an effect O-ring size would have with a full cylinder & long barrel, so I then fitted a longer barrel to the P90TR to see if that makes any difference in the results, still using the Guarder enhanced 3/4 cylinder to begin with. The barrel is a 509mm unknown brand Chinese non-tightbore barrel (IIRC it originally came from my ~15 year old A&K M249). Ideally I would have used a ZCI tightbore to better compare against the ZCI barrel used in the earlier tests but I don't have one of those so I had to make do with this. LPE standard O-ring + 509mm barrel: 309.5 fps Deep Fire 'super' O-ring + 509mm barrel: 320.1 fps As with the earlier tests the standard O-ring is around 10fps lower than the smaller O-ring. The barrel being a cheap non-tightbore barrel probably accounts for most of the power loss seen here compared with the shorter barrel tests. Finally I put in a Guarder enhanced full cylinder to see how the O-rings compare in a long barrel + full cylinder setup: LPE standard O-ring + 509mm barrel + full cylinder: 321.7 fps Deep Fire 'super' O-ring + 509mm barrel + full cylinder: 318.1 fps Unknown origin O-ring #1 + 509mm barrel + full cylinder: 320.6 fps Interestingly, this time the Deep Fire O-ring actually performed slightly worse than the LPE O-ring. I was expecting that with the full cylinder all O-rings would perform about the same, maybe with the smaller O-rings having a slight advantage. I tried one of the unknown O-rings that was the best performer in the initial tests and while that was better it still had slightly lower performance with this configuration than the LPE O-ring. I'm not sure why this is, as they all form a seal right from the start... it may be that the smaller O-rings have more room to inflate against the cylinder and that with the lack of any significant acceleration phase prior to compression starting this costs some energy that otherwise would be used to propel the BB. Conclusions In builds using full cylinders the normal 24mm AEG piston O-rings would seem to be slightly better, although the difference doesn't seem to be that big. However in builds using ported cylinders it looks like it's better to use smaller O-rings, as was the case in both sets of results using the 3/4 cylinder. It can be difficult to find such O-rings though since most AEG piston O-rings are about 24mm and generic O-rings are typically only supplied in a standard set of sizes that are either slightly too big or slightly too small, and even if you can find some that are supposed to be ~23.7-23.8mm they're not likely to be made with such a high degree of precision, as I found out with the ones I bought. Anyway this might be something to keep in mind if you want to gain/lose a little power, or if you're just looking to maximise efficiency - it may not be a huge boost, but a potential 10+fps isn't insignificant and if done in conjunction with other small things that can be done to help boost fps this might be enough to allow the use of a weaker spring to achieve a given power level, which in turn will reduce stress on the rest of the system/improve reliability as well as slightly improve ROF and trigger response etc.

  33. Interesting. The traditional way to tune airguns was to gently sand an overtight o-ring/piston seal until it allowed the piston to slide freely under its own weight only when your finger was removed from blocking the transfer port (think nozzle) the cylinder held upright port upwards, piston fully forward. I was told that this was too tight and that a secret of tuning was to remove just enough that it just moved wen the port was blocked. Doing that gave similar results to those that you found. The looser fitting seal gave better fps. Likewise, low friction seals made from PTFE performed better than 'grippy' rubber ones.

We're talking about AI here, if they can't be arsed to spellcheck their magazine, what chance have you got that they'll properly organise a big event, they've always traded on their "name", in the hope that people will put their trust (& money) in them as a longstanding publication. I've personally played alongside & against the AI editorial team in the past, only to find that they seem to think the game rules dont apply to them, so when I hear criticism of how they run events, I'm not surprised in the least.

  39. Purely imho - the Colt style looks entirely like something that'd be made up for a Japanese cartoon where the animators have fused something super modern with something super old for a unique look, not a fan personally and I wouldn't say it fits the notion of futuristic pistol concept but an interesting aesthetic. The lower shares some stuff in common with the Laugo Alien which is where I think pistols will go in future, so it makes a lot more sense to me in the context. I'd prefer to see something different to what Wilson Combat does in terms of the grip and front strap texturing but that stuff is effective and doesn't exist yet in airsoft in fairness.

Yes did build up a SD6. Finished it last night came out lovely. Wasn't too hard to build if you can get original ICS parts and have access to a lathe to build an adapter. Longer barrel and new spring bumped my FPS up too 340 so looking forward to using it tomorrow for its first outing. Also fitted my magpul guard and gemtech QD suppressor from my other ngrs mp5 I built myself to see what fitted and they went straight on. I have a real steel sliding stock that I wanna try out but I think only the rails of the stock will fit with some milling so I might stick with the original as it's way more solid than any sliding stock on Rif.
