  6. In short yes. However, I recommend renting for the first few games. This will allow you to work out what suits your playing with style. For example I prefer shorter guns as I like to go sneaking through the undergrowth so a carbine or smg suits me best.

  9. Tried something new other than the usual 1911 stuff over the weekend and prepped my TM G18C frame before stippling. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- The initial idea behind this build was strictly "form follows function", where everything on it would serve some sort of utilitarian purpose. Eventually that approach skewed into adding all the tactical accoutrements that I see in the airsoft & real-steel community. The end-goal now is to have it so ridiculously Gucci'd-out that it looks like something out of a sci-fi film. Started by removing finger grooves. Used 120 grit sandpaper with a hard sanding block. Didn't bother going any higher than 120 since the frame will be stippled anyway. I don't have a dremel tool so taped off parts to minimize scratches from filing/sanding. The frame is a Guarder aftermarket part for a gen 3 G17. Thumb rests also removed Couldn't really take too many pics of the process as I was covered in black nylon fiber powder most of the time. Here's some of the modifications and the reasoning behind them. Finger grooves removed and undercut triggerguard: Rolled up some 120 grit on a hammer handle and hand sanded, adding a chamfering bevel on each side afterwards. Surprised how much of a difference this makes. You can grip so much higher on the gun almost to the point where your grip angle changes. If you had to do just one mod I would recommend the undercut. Some RS shops seem to polish this part to a mirror finish but I just left it gritty as it might cause blisters if too smooth. Thumb rest removal and mag release scallop. I've seen these mods on some of the higher end Glocks that come out of custom shops and such. However, unlike the RS frames, airsoft frames don't seem to have enough thickness in this area create a deep enough scallop for any meaningful difference. It does make the mag release a bit easier to reach without breaking my extra-medium sized grip, but wish I could cut out a little more. Will probably add a border when stippling to make the scallop stand out a bit more visually. Some RS examples of "scallops". Tried to copy the round style of the ATEI G19 (leftmost photo). Note how much deeper the scallop cut is. Airsoft frames don't have much material here. Internals and short-stroking: The build started off with making sure everything that reciprocates is as light and frictionless as possible, while anything that doesn't is as heavy as possible. All the lower parts and the hop up are steel/stainless, while the moving parts are more weight-conscious (7075 slide, lightweight BBU with polymer backplate, non-tilting outer barrel, etc.). While this makes the cycling speed akin to the plastic stock version, I really wanted something faster, something that would go brrrrrrt on regular 144a gas- so I short stroked it like a madman. Filed back the slide stop ~14mm to allow it to lock back while short stroked. Image below shows the difference in travel compared to stock. The only concern is the slide itself slightly thinner in this area than where the notch used to be. Fingers crossed it holds up; but if it doesn't I'll just short stroke it some more🙃 Some ideas I'm playing with for the next steps. I really want to go all-in with the weight reduction concept and mill out some slide windows that agree with the general design language of the gun. It'll probably only save about 5 grams but would still look pretty good. They would also serve as forward cocking serrations since the selector switch doesn't really provide a comfortable grip to rack the slide. Which one do you prefer : (A) moderate and matching with the top port or (B) full length ports all the way to the chamber ? By the way, does anyone have any recommendations for stippling services? Looking for some place that does laser stippling or soldering. Not really confident that I'll be able to create clean borders doing it myself.

  10. OP. I think what we have here is simple self preservation. Now unlike 90% of airsofters. I have expensive ear pro and yet I would still probably want a pyrotechnical as far away from me as possible once lit. Throwing it towards the enemy, as the life drains from your body and you head towards that big old light in the sky. Is probably a very natural reaction.

  12. Okay thanks everyone. I think I’ll hold off for a bit then. I was originally planning to try find replacement parts for the two tone gun I bought to avoid repainting but if I’m best waiting then I’ll just leave purchasing for now all together. Thanks a lot for the help everyone. Much appreciated!

  13. My understanding is that should be fine, you have a defence to manufacture a realistic imitation firearm due your defence that you're an airsofter. Your membership of ukara then proves that defence. While it's very tempting to buy a two tone, I'll still advise against it, even though it's very tempting. Reasons for advising against it is you haven't had enough games to know if you truly like airsoft enough to spend on it, most people love their first game, by game 3/4 a lot have lost that buzz and have often over spent. Still love it after 3 games- spend away. Also, you're so new it's hard to understand what you'll like longer term, I hated m4s when I started but now I think they're awesome. You haven't messed with other players rifs at events, you don't know the pros and cons over what you're buying (based on the number of times I see "just bought this.....is it any good?!" Type threads. Covering a two tone isn't as easy as it seems, most covered two tones generally have some of the bright paint peeking through and you'll never get the best value if/when you decide to sell it.

  17. Remember this? After weeks of harassing my by email I sent UPS a shitty email on Friday, informing them I had already sent them my UKARA, twice, and no way I was paying that import tax, so they may as well keep the launcher shell, have fun with it. I bought one I found on a UK site last week anyway... UPS delivered my shell launcher today, and I've not paid a penny in tax 🤣

  19. Not a candle to the length you’ve gone to on that Glock but my GSB4.3 frame arrived. Total weight of the build with mag/tracer and torch is less than a stock TM 4.3 without a mag 803g vs 825g for an unloaded, naked TM

  20. It is sad that there are always a few people who ruin it for the many who love airsoft. Have you reported this to the site marshals? At the end of the day if the site are not on top of these things, incidences like this will unfortunately continue, until something serious happens or the site closes due to lack of return business. I, like many long servicing airsofters on this forum are heart broken, disappointed and angry when we see these and hear about this incidents like this. I guess others on here will comment better than myself.

    Specna Arms. Worth it?

Had a quick peek on Arthurs website, they mention based on E&C for some of their AEG's and others they don't, maybe they're in the middle of swapping OEM.

  22. Never used a USP and I can't say I've noticed them at all on game days either so it seems more of a niche pistol although it does loook nice I generally keep a can of maintenance gas to keep in the mags while stored to keep the seals lubed. Remember to empty your mags to keep the springs from being compressed

    WE M16A1's, any good?

TM and WE have much better parts availability than GHK, VFC or KWA. And WE gbbrs and their parts are cheaper than Marui ones.

  25. HI guys, used to be really into airsoft in my teens however life and work got in the way. Luckily I held on to my guns and I just need new batteries. but I'd like to ask what's changed on the RIF market in the last 4/5 years? How have all the old guard brands like G&G, TM, CYMA etc. fared in terms of quality and are there any new players to look out for? Cheers
    1 point
  26. Not a lot has *massively* changed in the last 4/5 years. At lot of the same companies that were around back then are still around now. The low-end market is by far the most active in terms of new models, added features and quality. Many are equipped with Mosfets or some kind of basic electronic trigger unit right out of the box. The Double Eagle (yes, that company that made those really cheap spring shotties) kinda blew the market wide open with the M90x series of guns. G&G are slowly pricing themselves out of the market - CM16 Raiders are now over £200 which is mental when you can buy better spec'd guns for a lot less money. CYMA have increased their line of models a fair bit, their quality has improved noticeably and the blue internals on the new guns are solid out of the box. The market has been muddied in the low-to-mid range from new upstarts such as Specna, who - on paper - offer very good value for money. Shame the QC has been a shambles - but I hear they are getting better. TM are still a go-to for the mid-to-high end market for many people with the various NGRS models. The likes of Krytac and KWA are still about too. The MWS GBBRs are very popular, indeed there are some huge owners-group threads on here with stacks of information. The Super-high-end market is no longer dominated by Systema PTWs - indeed they are becoming rarer beasts these days out in the wild, but then there are other manufactures such GBLS with their eye-watering DAS models. LiPos (as mentioned above) are pretty much standard fare now. Brushless motors are becoming a practical option with performance and efficiency gains to be had from them - Warhead currently holds that market, but it's only a matter of time before other manufacturers will jump onto the brushless wagon and the prices drop. You will see a lot more players with air hoses to backpacks and Dye Paintball masks. Speedsoft is gaining traction in the UK, and HPA is currently their method of choice to dispense their BB's - at least that's what the cool kids tell me. Not everyone's cup of tea. But the reality is, a decent gun 5 years ago is still a decent gun now. Sure, the newer stuff can do some cool things, but if your gun can shoot 300-350 fps, at a reasonable ROF, with reasonable accuracy, you won't have a problem at most skirmishes.

  28. Welcome back I think generally the price of hardware has gone down with cheaper brands like CYMA and JingGong (JG) producing decent quality budget RIFs. Probably the biggest change has been moving to Li-Po batteries and intelligent chargers. More power in a smaller package 😁 But with more power comes more responsibility 🙄 Supply is really shite right now though and Brexit has fucked us up 😣

    WE M16A1's, any good?

The WE mp5 apache is one of my go to smg's now. Been using it for over a year now with no quibbles at all. I used the 416 (both versions) for a good while also and never had to replace anything other than the nozzle- This was my fault as i put a full amount of BB's in the mag and loaded the gun wit the bolt forward. This caused too much pressure on the nozzle and it broke. Easy fix thankfully! I now have bought a WE AK74UN and that thing rocks! Love it. I think WE are a great platform to work from.

  30. Hi. I purchased one from zero one about 4 years ago with 3 spare mags. I knew the plastic nozzles were shite so I got an RA tech Ali nozzle from China the same week. Apparently at one point they were sending out 2 nozzles with them in the hope you wouldn't complain. My plastic nozzle broke in fantastic style after 3 mags. A few years later it's off the wall and running the RA tech nozzle. New out the box it feels solid but light. The front grip flexes and crackles on its joints as you test it. The gun feels great in your shoulder and overall 7 out of 10 for feel. The mags are a good weight and remind you not to spray and prey. The RA tech nozzle is fps adjustable with an awkward unique style torque/ allen key at a slight angle. On fitment mine hit 350 first shot 320's there after. There is a good you tube vid on fitting the RA tec nozzle and he says "keep the small inner fly valve spring for consistant fps". I did this and I'm pretty happy. Single is great. A really good kick that tests your cheap fillings. Full auto is only good for burst but it is still a massive amount of fun. Don't expect a full mag dump. I run 0.25g and love double tapping. With three spare mags you use your side arm when you are meant to. Hop isn't too bad considering you have to take the rear pin out crack it and use a fiddly little allen key in the piston guide area. If you get one, it's a keeper. Watch out for repro real steel stocks and grip bundles at about £150 in green brown or black. The originals were very brittle some don't bother looking. It's on the wall till next month, I'm happy.

  32. Not a full loadout (imagine the usual black PJs for VC shenanigans), but I just put together my "ghillie" for Operation Boogaloo in two weeks time; VSR is similarly wrapped in a bunch of scrim net too Will attach an abundance of natural foliage on the day and be a haunted bush hunting GIs all day. Well, that and civvie recon, walking around with no military gear and having a bit of RP fun ("you shot my cow! You pay for cow, GI!") Going to make a point to not know about any objectives so if I get captured I can't tell them anything, because with how annoying I'm going to be I reckon it'll happen at some point. Going to be good escape and evasion practice, as it looks like we may be outnumbered something like 4 to 1. Last Vietnam game I went to had some fantastic escape and evasion action, so I have my hopes up. Goal is to get hit and/or captured as little as possible

    Gun picture thread

As much as I love it, the Wolverine Hydra and the m14 hop unit don't get along, so I've put a strip of a drink can at the back of the hop unit to avoid BBs rolling back and jamming it open. Took the opportunity to get the G&P scope mount which is far lower and now the m21 is complete. I will need to cable tie the rails onto the outer barrel to stop it moving about though as I had to modify it a little to use it with a scope mount; mounting a scope directly onto the rails doesn't work and tilts the sight upwards, hence I need a separate mount to keep it level. Not sure if I can get the stubby mags to feed properly though, so we'll see next game day. Otherwise I'll just run it with normal mags. Also, I now have a decent camera, so have some m21 pics.

  34. Amazing game again at Diggers Namsoft themed game in Kent. A little down on numbers perhaps this year and a small decline in green machine players. A shame that work and weddings seem to clash with the important things in life! Anyhow, arrived on Friday feeling wiped out due to lack of sleep, but soon felt good relaxing with mates old and new. |Met a few new faces at their first game. I did wonder if a whole weekend of airsoft would stagger them but they were young and full of vim as they used to say. Bloody good relaxed night around the campfire was a good way to start a game weekend I think. Day one and each of three Aussie squads were put together. Each was given a particular mission. Ours was to patrol an area and search for VC. This was a win on their part as we never found them and they completed their objectives. We did keep busy and tbh, we needed the time to get into the swing of things. A shake up run was important to get people into roles within the group. It took a few minutes to get us all in order of march and to work out who was best point or tail end Charlie. The odd firefight with rapidly disappearing foes kept us alert to say the least. After three quarters of an hour, we were rushing out to fights on the Land Rover, being RPG’d, ambushed, and counter ambushing. It was spectacular fun and pretty exhilarating. The vehicles and array of weapons was excellent. I realised that I had a good kill to death ratio at one point, only to get marmalised for the next few fights. The afternoon was started with sounds of rockets and large flames as a simulated plane downing took place. Now we had a race to the crash site with the VC arriving first and putting up stiff resistance as they withdrew with both black box and pilot. Won the battle but lost the fight… A break for evening meal, and we were back in base at 7 o clock. As darkness fell, we had been frustrated by countless /VC sqauds appearing and having to be chased and (occasionally) engaged. The whole damn lot of them then attacked. Seriously, the night games at this event and Arclight have been the absolute best I’ve ever played. Really pulse pounding stuff and only luck denied the VC victory. A couple of grenades a few feet further and they would have overrun us easily. As it was I was not taken out until someone jumped atop the bunker I manned. Not sure if they did get my shirt sleeve with their pistol, but the audacity and speed that they showed were impressive and I took the hit whatever, sat back and watched the fight unfold as best I could. The landmines hidden at the base entrance gave couple of players a loud surprise. Another night under canvas and one of the best things about airsoft was evident. I had a few beers with a chap I would never have normally met, but which revealed a similar life in similar family and work circumstances a mere continent away; eye opening stuff and another face to add to the people to have a beer with. Swapping home cooked food was good too. Went to bed full of single malt, aged brandy, fine cigars and top notch grub various corners of the world. Sunday was a raid on the VC camp to retrieve both box and pilot. A most intense firefight that lasted almost two hours left us exhausted and hot but victorious. It also left us embarrassed as several people had left and the VC were only about a third of our number… I’ll resist the temptation to bang on any more. I had a seriously good weekend again, with top notch players, no no hit calling, arguments or any other unwelcome bollox. A full twelve hours or so full on airsoft with vehicles, fireworks, mines, RPGs, a tight rule set and good playing standards, and had good time after game pigging out with friends. Top quality and I can’t wait until the June game at Eversley. I prefer a top quality game weekend once a month with the odd day skirmish to the fortnightly skirmish that I did for years. More sites, better playing standards and a great social.

  35. Tbh I'm of the opinion that unless they're shot before the pyro is struck then it's much the same as two people shooting each other at the same time... I.e both people should probably take their hit. We are talking about a window of around a second between striking the pyro and throwing it which isn't actually that long to make a decision. Obviously it's down to site rules and if you can make it safe again then you probably should as well, if only for the sake of sportsmanship. At the end of the day you do need to get rid of the explody thing or it's gonna hurt.
    1 point
  36. I think it's a tricky one. Ideally, once shot you'd drop it at your feet and then the ensuing 'friendly fire' would be observed. Realistically, I can't see that happening. Having had Pyro go off right at my feet before it wasn't pleasant. I think the best solution would be to lob it in a safe direction away from friendlies and the opposite team - but that requires A) a safe direction with no players present and B) the presence of mind to do so quickly whilst you're probably still sucking your teeth at being hit in the knuckles or something

  37. Today it was no hit takers day and overkill day as well as some shenanigans with one player I suspected of having an unregulated HPA and causing 8 to 10 players to leave the game site. Two blemishes are defo 0.2's in a RIF that is chrono'd to spec, that is very clear and what I expect to see when I come from a game that has been played with players following the rules. The other three and I have about 35 of them all over me, shots from further than the others I took, left me with those bleeding welts which is not what airsoft is about. Had they been really close shots like within 20ft, I'd expect a 0.2 to leave a bigger mark. To be clear on this, I had a long sleeve'd top on. I suspect that the guy concerned was using 0.25's or 0.28's for something like those. To make it clear to the morons in the room, its twatish play like that--that sends the kids home to be never seen again and how is the sport to grow if you have morons intentionally taking the piss and driving away the new intake..? I have noticed a big drop in numbers of players recently as the regulars and myself agree that there are a few rogues players who pop up from time to time and you get this kind of game play that ruins the fun. There was a guy who took a point blank hit to the arm, twice by a guy that could have just as easily have hit the guy in his plate carrier. There was one guy kept on taking hand shots, aiming to hit you on your hand and I got hit several times, luckily the gloves took the brunt. One guy ended up with an injury to his hand and it was very nasty, defo a hospital trip that one There is beginning to be too many twats who just don't understand what fun is and that when they turn up, its off putting to people and they are the problem in the sport, not those complaining about fair game play, these guys tend to be the non-hit callers / takers, I popped a few guys dead centre of body mass and they carried on game play regardless. So this weeks game was a lot of angry players wondering who it was... Put it this way, by half time we'd lost 8 players because of this one twat. Excuse the rant but I think it needs pointing out to the morons in airsoft as they just don't get it, they are hurting the sport, not taking part in it... they may like to get hurt as part of their fun package and others hurt people back, that doesn't mean that its OK, especially when there are rules for good reason.
