The 'How Did Your Airsoft Day Go? Thread

I think I just had the best weekend of airsoft I've had in literally a decade. Started with an airsoft car-boot sale, where I picked up a TM 4.3 Hicapa for £50, lots of socialising and chatting to everyone. Then we played some 5v5 and 4v4 games, because the player numbers were super low on the Saturday, which were really fun (and really challenging as a sneaky sniper, since the enemy team gets suspicious when they can't see the 4th or 5th player. It's a lot easier to keep track of things when there are only 5 enemies). Camped over night, which involved some great fireside chats with some of the other guys who were camping over, until 2:30am in the otherwise pitch black. Maybe I should've gone to bed earlier, but I have no regrets and I'd do it again. Then had a full day of fantastic games where I managed to sneak behind the enemy team in the morning games and was picking them all off from behind, finding out my friend was pretty much parallel to me on the other side of the area, shooting them from the front and this getting us some rather colourful, frustrated cries about how snipers are unfair. However, after lunch I was removed from my team and put in a small 6 person group of 2 scientists and 4 guards where the objective for both teams was to retrieve the scientists' briefcases and we were told by the marshalls to "make them work for it"... 3 hours into holding them all off and only 10 minutes remaining for the day, we decided to give a suitcase to each team so that there could actually be a winner to the games. Working as a cohesive unit is the real overpowered way of playing airsoft, as we simply set ourselves up in concealed positions (most of us were experienced sneaky-beakies and/or bush wookiees) with overlapping fields of fire, moving when we had to but always keeping each other's positions in mind when we did. I lost track of how many people I hit, but it was a LOT. Outnumbered, outgunned, but not outdone! So what did I learn? Apart from the normal reinforcement of "you can stealth in short sleeves and a cheap £25 leafy hood thing from Russia", I learned that my new HPA m21 setup is bonkers. Easily accurate to 60m and still pretty accurate to 65m on 1.1J, so no MED and full auto if I really want, though I did change my full auto to 3 round burst. It's also incredibly quiet, not quite as quiet as my VSR, but I think it's quieter than my mk23. It has definitely cemented itself in as my primary gun for the late spring through autumn while the site is pretty overgrown. We'll see if it can dethrone the VSR in the winter through early spring when the sight lines are longer, but it's so liberating being able to shoot people within 30m and having semi-auto ROF instead of bolt action, but also retaining that long range option. I'm going to have tree-trunk arms by next summer if I use this gun on the regular now. It weighs an absolute tonne compared to the VSR!2 points -
I'm a sweaty heavy breather 😯 and suffered badly from fog, both on my goggles and my glasses underneath them, and today was the first game I played with an ExFog mounted on my helmet. Yes, the ExFog itself and the pouch I bought for it weren't cheap, but their positive effect just lifted my day to a whole new level. It was a mixed outdoor / indoor CQB site and I had zero fog, I never had to worry about it once. I turned it off in a break between games to see what happened, the fog slowly crept back, and with it back on it was gone after a few seconds. I used it the whole day, with it only off for lunch, so a full charged lasted at least 5 1/2 hours (it was still running fine, on the highest setting all day). I routed the tubing as best I could, with velcro straps holding it it, however one side was pulled out by brambles I was sneaking through which was the only negative things about something I'm so glad I've bought.2 points

Well definitely getting my interest back in the game at last , just got back from ‘the yard’ in Ammanford South Wales and had an outstanding day . Only my 2nd visit (private day first time so don’t think it really counted) 32 players , really good game play from all present , really fast turn arounds between games and made to feel really welcome by the regulars , so all in all definitely helped to improve my negative feelings about airsofting . 👍 At last ! 😉2 points

First third prototype casing assembled. Not had chance to wire it up yet to test the fan's performance. If airflow is sufficient (it might not be - it's a 5V 4020 fan that was sent to me in error, I could end up with a 12v 50mm fan yet), I'll integrate a battery and add loops to the main body for bungee retention to the Arc rail.2 points -

Don't worry this'll be short 😉 Another good day at Skirmish Wycombe. They do shortish 20-30 minute games usually capture & defend with the roles switched for the following game. There is some interesting terrain and varied structures which makes capturing and defending a bit more interesting. 4 marshals for about 60 players. They are a bit young so don't know how well they'd handle a difficult player. Luckily the times I've played there I haven't seen too much cheating. Lunch is VERY good and they cater to special requirements. Decent airsoft shop and tuck shop. Haven't tried the toilets but they are in a proper cabin.1 point -

Can't use it til next weekend, but am VERY excited! TM MK23 , with the usual internal gubbins upgraded. Running 0.45s on red gas @ 1.14J. No MED. Range with rangefinder is a solid 70m, although can reach out to 80m. 350 round drum mag. It's a close to an automatic sniper as I've ever used. And it's very quiet. I don't think I have ever been so excited about using a toy gun! I can't thank @rocketdogbertenough for the drum. Simply awesome, as ever! Thank you X infinity! An SHS AK head, got a few of those, which one did you need out of interest? I've noticed that since the larger Chinese stores like Aliexpress have implemented VAT at source all of my other purchases from independent HK retailers have sailed through customs with no charges.. It's almost as if no vat and duty checks are being made simply because they are catching the majority at source. Maybe we'll start seeing the rise of HK stores again similar to mid-2000's. Who knows, still early days.1 point

The high level claw mount that TM did was a copy of a RS item. The real ones are now pretty affordable as they have fallen out use in favour of the lower profile screw down mounts due to their weight and the fact that the newer style mounts give you a much lower height over bore, so a noticeably smaller shift in zero at close ranges. I often see them going for not much money at airsoft sales or on various selling sites. However unless you are going for an authentic retro build I wouldn't bother. I have a pair of WE apaches that I run eotech's on and I just used the following from Amazon, they work well are as cheep as chips and you can get it delivered free next day if you have Amazon Prime. https://www.amazon.co.uk/ToopMount-Tactical-Profile-Aluminum-Picatinny/dp/B0888HPMNS/ref=dp_prsubs_3?pd_rd_i=B0888HPMNS&psc=11 point -

Nibbled a bit off with your teeth? 😉 I tried the two other rubbers today. Seem to be okay but there was a drop in the fps. Swapped back to the shaved maple leaf and it jumped up again to 342 on 0.20. Also very consistent around that number. Playing tomorrow so will see how the maple leaf performs in a full game and will address from there!1 point

It's finally done and I test fired it a few times to see how quiet it was. I still can't believe just how silent it is! It blows my mind and I think it may be quieter than my VSR, but I'll have to test them side-by-side this weekend to confirm that. I'm so happy so far and looking forward to obsessively tuning it this weekend and I'm hoping to be hitting out to 60m accurately. Targeting 1.14J on .32s with maximum effective range and maximum air efficiency. And yes, that's a long line coming out of the stock, as I will put the tank in the stock pouch, though I do have a line and larger tank that I can use if I need. I think this might be my magnum opus airsoft sniper rifle build. The worst part about this is the quality of my camera, because my phone is about 5 years old1 point

Got the B18 to fit and finally got around to sorting the paracord on the stock. It could certainly be better, but it could equally certainly be worse. Have a B19N and RK-6 on their way from the Motherland, and a PBS-1 replica to throw a tracer in. Loving the build, but my wallet is very much looking forward to it being done.1 point

Skirmish days will tend towards just that, simple skirmish games. A lot of people go to skirmish days for that brainless video game-esque experience of "hold this area" or "capture that objective". Yes, I call it "brainless", but that's a good thing. Silly skirmish fun is a great time at the end of the day, especially if you have friends at the site and can laugh about the stupid stuff that happens. Sounds like the spawn ideas were awful though and I dislike both teams having the same spawn points. My local site has been trying this idea and a few of us are feeding back that it doesn't work well as it promotes two negative play types: first, it allows you to just walk in the open, get hit, then walk to a spawn point behind the enemy, removing any impact from the stealthy players who would normally spend huge portions of the game simply moving low and slow to avoid detection to get on the flank. Secondly, even if you tell people not to spawn camp, it happens. If you respawn, then 5 mins later a wave of enemies respawn from the same place, you're going to engage them. I've seen my local site has started doing longer games once a month, tending a little more towards the filmsim side, and it has been well received, but I think doing it every week would dissuade a lot of people from attending the site regularly, as sometimes you just want to go to the woods and shoot each other with toy guns without thinking too hard. Variety is the spice of life, and if all I did was narrative filmsim every week, I think I'd get tired of it. If you find skirmish tedious, maybe you should look at attending milsim events, or film/battlesim, or even period airsoft. They're a very different experience to skirmish days; it's not an experience that I'm that keen on (milsim, that is...), but it's another way to experience the airsoft hobby. I attended my first milsim a few months ago and I'm going to my first Vietnam game in a month or so. As I said earlier, variety is the spice of life.1 point

At that price I’d expect an asylum seeker trotting along next to me gently mopping my brow with a damp cloth ! Freely admit I sweat like a pig in a synagogue and I wear inserts in my glasses as well , so after yrs of trying all and sundry ways to solve the conundrum that is fogging I’ve settled on revision anti fog wipes , and in between each game give my glasses a ‘top up’ wipe . Yes I do still get a bit of fogging if I go static mid exertion BUT it’s never loosing vision bad AND as soon as I start moving again it clears immediately .1 point
