If there isn't, there should be. Or at least a minimum membership time. I've just joined a few shooting forums and they have a month minimum before you can post in the classifieds. Which on the one hand was annoying, cos I'd joined to flog stuff (hypocrite, I know!), but on the other hand, I can totally see the value of that as it's got me involved in the community. People who only join to flog stuff serve no purpose to AFUK as a community. They also present a greater risk, as they can create a @fuckwit1992 username, flog their tat and fuck off into the distance before anyone's the wiser...3 points -

Action Hobbies

On monday I ordered a 2 tone Mk23 from Action Hobbies, and was on their website this morning checking if it had been dispatched when I saw that they accept BASC membership as a defense. Got on the phone straight away, and the very helpful guy on the phone (the owner? Paul?) was happy to put the Mk23 - which had already been painted and was ready for dispatch - back into his stock room and switch my order to an RIF version. Obviously I've not received it yet as this has put the order back, but I'm very pleased with the level of customer service so far.3 points -

Does a UKARA number expire?
Floperator and 2 others reacted to Tommikka for a topic
Just keep it in mind that there are ‘Defences’ under legislation: Reenactment, museums, film & TV, Crown work, skirmishing etc These defences do not rely on any specific scheme, but for sales in the UK it’s up to the seller to comply So if you don’t have a UKARA number it is still possible to get yourself something to enable a purchase from one retailer or another I would definitely not recommend gambling on different methods to import as it all comes down to your responsibility - even ‘proper’ defences can fail at the border3 points -

Exactly We enjoy playing games about shooting people and getting shot at consensually for fun Once in a while I get my kicks from spraying a load of balls all over the place, mostly I like to sneak around a bit and fire off a few shots. More often than not I’ll get the perfect opportunity for a surprise shot but instead I’ll see how much closer I can get before anyone notices - which 9/10 times results in me getting shot at close range by a startled target. If you’re after the one in ten success, or the adrenaline rush of almost succeeding along with another war story then take out whatever’s going to be the most fun If you’re going to be demoralised if you don’t get your fair share of kills then load up with a reasonably ranged gun that has a decent rate of fire, can sustain a fair firefight and you can hit a barn door with Come out of the game smiling and you’ve won the day3 points

OK, so 47 years and excessive pies have put me off doing it but after my youngest got hooked, then father /son hobby was born... I genuinely don't have a clue. Lol. I've got a mate who is really into it and I'm learning what I can so I don't look like a complete noob, just a partial one... 🤣 Going to do a few rentals before buying something interesting too. I will be annoying, asking random questions that have been asked before (must search first!). Hope to pull the right ideas from your experiences. Er, "game on" 😳2 points

Man - you guys are the best. Thanks for all the responses. @Davegolf - Thanks so much. I will PM you for details. The grip is not a clone as far as I can tell - it did mate well to the receiver and only "wobbled" after this happened and the bolt came loose. And LOL yes this is what inspired my username. @Jacket - Thanks Jacket. Will PM you and see if we can work something out. @alxndrhll - Thanks for the suggestion - I was thinking along similar lines and am trying it as we speak (waiting for the glue to cure lol) @C-Diddy - I used the OG bolt - i used a socket rachet which may have been the wrong call in hindsight lol. @AlphaBear - thanks AlphaB. Figured it wouldn't be covered, but thought I'd ask. Appreciate you guys!2 points -

The difference from a sellers point of view is ensuring you keep evidence of condition and of any agreements made in relation refunds or problems arising - I don’t know anyone that would be happy accept a return after a buyer had worked on the item - be it airsoft or any other thing Dear BMW, there was a funny noise coming from the engine of my car so I let our Dave who really likes cars and once changed his own oil take the cylinder head off- he couldn’t really see what was wrong and lost some bits and found a broken thing, errrm can I have my money back ? PS you will need to send a tow truck and a wheely bin to collect the bits !! …..it’s that sort of scenario…2 points

@Mr. No_Face I think you need to be a bit more matter of fact. With that in mind, when you say ‘mag erupts’ do you mean it vented all the gas out the exit valve? Or it sprayed all the BB’s into the receiver? The MWS is a fine RIF, and as is the case with all GBB’s their function is a complete balancing act. If you change one thing it will have knock on effects. As you are new to the MWS I’m pretty sure it’s more you learning about it than it bing a crap product The most likely cause of a jam/double feed in the MWS is crap ammo or bio BB’s that are old / swollen. (other less likely cause is swollen bucking, too much hop) The most like cause of gas dump is overfilling of the mag, basically the exit valve ices up and it won’t shut off. (other cause is dry piston seal stopping full cycle which in turn doesn’t knock off/reset the gas knocker) You should weigh the gas into your mags, this will give the ultimate reliability and shot fps consistency.2 points

Shotgun as a primary?
Tactical Pith Helmet and one other reacted to Impulse for a topic
It's similar with running a bolt action these days, since AEGs and 1J builds can reach out so far now; my 1.1J m21 build is by far my most practical gun and it's rare I come across a situation where I really miss that extra 10 - 15m I get with 2.3J of bolt action. I ran a Cyma shotgun last week at UCAP Bunker and it worked amazingly well (even won a shotgun duel with someone who was running some sort of expensive gas shotgun monster build). Very satisfying and you get team mates looking your direction when you make that very audible pump (it's so hard to word this without it sounding risqué...) I'd advise everyone to have at least a cheap tri-shot in their collection. They're a bit of fun and a good backup gun in case your main one breaks down or your batteries die or whatever. Metal-bodied Cyma tri-shots go for under £100 and they're a great bit of fun for the money.2 points -

Or ‘kick’ starting by hand with the other holding a spark plug against the engine to check the spark ? That put some energy into myself But in games there are tiny little moments where I still tell the tales 10, 15 or more years later2 points -

Thanks, but I don’t think there is anything to celebrate, things like this happening just cause bad feeling Not everyone agrees I was right I’m sure, and the buyer certainly won’t buy from me again, and is likely to be put off buying second hand in the future because of his negative experience - he is also left out of pocket because of his failure to properly research his purchase. But hey that’s second hand airsoft, I’ve bought new that’s broke first outing and got nowhere with a retail warranty claim. Thanks to everyone for their support however. Old Boy Out!2 points -
I'm loving that analogy. I totally relate to that. Like i mentioned about this sunday, mine started to jam as I forgot to clean and regrease it after my last game. My fault. But now have done all that, man, the BCG slides like butter. It's unfortunate you are having such a hard time, but think of it this way... you have now learned several new things on fixing your MWS that you don't have to pay a tech to do. You will be proficient at fixing in no time2 points

I've run a gas shotgun as a primary a few times and it's certainly doable, you do just have to adjust your playing style This2 points -
Nozzles, nozzle springs, gas and BBs are all consumables in the MWS world. As C-Diddy says treat it as a classic car / high performance car and accept a level of tinkering, with what is ultimately a toy. At the end of the day there is less to go wrong and when it does it is easier to fix than an AEG with the bonus that some POS Lipo isn’t going to self-immolate at a random point 😂2 points

Shotgun as a primary?
Rogerborg and one other reacted to Tactical Pith Helmet for a topic
I have played a few games with shotgun primary. It was frustrating in woodland, great for CQB. Given the price and performance of a CYMA these days an aeg is probably better. That said... the best woodland ambushes that I pulled off with the shotgun are still vivid in my mind seven years later.2 points -
Don't get too disheartened. Airsoft is one of those hobbies where, sadly, the odds of our new toys lasting long before something goes pop is never more than 50/50, even with AEGs. The biggest pain in the arse right now is the lack of available parts, for whatever reason. I liken us having GBBRs to people who tinker with classic/vintage cars or motorbikes; you know they require more maintenance, parts and overall TLC, but fuck me when they perform they are so satisfying.2 points

Welcome, your in the right place for good well intentioned advice from fellow geriatric pie lovers 🥮🐖. Best advice I personally can give you is don't be sucked in by the gearqueers & stitch counters, for every bit of super expensive kit thats seen on seal team or similar, there's an airsoft version that costs about 20% of the real steel kit, & it'll do the job almost as well when you take in to account how much use its likely to get in comparison to real world combat. Plus, as you mentioned your lad is your youngest, no doubt your having to pick up the tab on everything for both of you lol. Same goes for guns, yes it's very easy to blow £500+ on top line kit, brands such as cyma do the job for considerably less, so no need to get silly (well not straight away anyway 🤣) With regards to load carrying kit, go as light as you can to start with, if you are carrying extra timber, overloading your self with multiple layers of sweat inducing tactical nylon will finish you off by lunchtime, so think about what you need rather than what you want. & have fun👍2 points

Game on indeed 😀 Welcome to the Airsoft asylum 👋 We all started somewhere and just learnt by doing what others did and watching their gaffs and triumphs and then developing your own style and strategies. Although in my case that all goes for a ball of chalk when the game starts lol. Good idea to do the rental games first before you decide on which gnu you want. Ask questions, talk to the guys at your game site, they are only to eager to share their knowledge.( Not me though I've got no time for no nothing noobs!) 😉 Listen to the briefing and follow your team and hope they know what the hell is going on and you will be fine.👍 Enjoy and call your hits.🤕 Check out afuks @GAMBLEhe has a tube channel with tips and info and general all round Airsoft antics. regards2 points

Does a UKARA number expire?
SussexMatt and one other reacted to Rogerborg for a topic
It surely doesn't. The defence is specific to things that "need" a RIF, i.e. museum, theatrics, or playing pretend soldiers. However, as above, it's entirely up to sellers what they'll accept. I doubt it will ever be an issue for them. Of course, it's all an utter farce, as "Want that one" suffices (in England and Waleshire) for purchasing much more dangerous airgun firearms that look absolutely identical to the airsoft version. It's just a game with very flexible rules that aren't really enforced. Much like airsoft.2 points -

I'd always been fairly casual when on the rare occasions I sold kit, merely because morally I could never stitch anybody up with dodgy kit, but sold a pistol once & my spidey senses were tingling, so I made an up close video of the guns condition (something I'd never done before), as well as the three mags it came with, & finally all three being emptied through the gun. Sent off the kit , gave it no more thought. Month later I get a bs msg from the buyer, "due to work commitments he hadn't been able to play, nor check the gun, but now having done so he'd found numerous faults with both gun & mags that made it unusable & would like a full refund" otherwise he'll involve PayPal. What he didn't know was that another player who'd shown interest in the gun when I'd had it for sale, but didn't have the funds, had messaged me two weeks before to say the guy had posted it for sale on Facebook (back when you could), for considerably more than he'd paid. I'd checked out his page, yep the gun was in immaculate condition he'd stated, everything working as it should, & also lots of mentions of sites he'd recently played at lol. Needless to say my offer to send him the video, as well as screenshots of his ad etc, wasn't responded to, in fact I never heard from the chancer again, but it tickles me that when he couldn't sell it on, he might have bolloxed it himself to back up his bs claim 🤣1 point
-
Exactly Not a win, but a case story of PayPal rules working and an example of the needs to ensure everything is documented, described properly et The PayPal perception of protecting the buyer is generally a myth, but the protection of each side is dependant on doing things ‘properly’. Some sellers are naive and don’t help themselves and lose very quickly to the unscrupulous When there’s a genuine problem there aren’t true winners, just an optimum result1 point

Finally remembered to take a pic while out. I'm definitely in the "premium" stage of my kit 😂 Though the ghillie is crafted, I'm using a Viper concealment vest base, some jack pyke stealth camo hide net, and some raffia and fake plants. I've had people walk right past me when I'm low to the ground. Using some jack pyke digicam soft shell clothing, which is decently warm and waterproof, and seems to be a good camo pattern though possibly approaching a bit dark for this time of year. Also a digicam balaclava that's been cut up and attached to my mesh mask. A simple kombat chest rig with their molle yoke for holding my knife and comms, and a hydro pack on the back. It's a nice lightweight kit with a surprising amount of space for things. Also a drop leg dump pouch, no idea what brand, I just bought it of some guy. Not pictured is the tactical bum bag, very handy I must say. Gun is a nuprol ak21, all the compression and hop parts have been changed, and it's getting new gears, motor, and mosfet soon. Pretty nice so far, it throws 0.36s out to a bit past 60m at 1j. Also a hawke 3-9x scope, really nice for woodland I find. I can track shots through narrow gaps in bushes easily, and the little rmr on top means I can be reasonably quick at close range. It's covered in jack pyke tough tape.1 point
