the mp5 has many strong arguments: you can hk slap it it goes with pretty much any nationality you can hk slap it you can do police or military you can hk slap it for airsoft it's perfectly viable outdoors you can hk slap it small mags easy carried and the gun is short and light you can hk slap it it wears modernisation relatively well you can hk slap it seems it's mostly avoided the heretical plague of putting m4 stocks on not m4's you can hk slap it it's just plain cool and iconic did i mention you can hk slap it?5 points -
Training Plates for Balance
GeorgePlaysAirsoft and one other reacted to Oneshotscott for a topic
I don't mean any disrespect to anyone when I say this but the average airsoft plate carrier/chest rig doesn't weight that much when its fully loaded with water, mags, misc items and should not result in back pain (I'm talking for a grown man here). I would strongly advise that you take a minute to call your GP and see a physio regarding this. Shifting the weight from the shoulders to elsewhere is a quick fix, as is reducing the weight but non of these will ultimately clarify what the root cause is of this pain. Airsoft or not you have an problem with your back and if not fixed now...well it could creep up on you and become a game/hobby ending injury. Be wise and call your GP. It isn't like we can actually play airsoft at the moment is it? I hope you receive the treatments necessary to return your back to full health/strength so we can all shoot you on site one day (not in the back though..)2 points -
Tackle is 100% correct. What do doctors and physios (ie people with serious education and training) tell overweight people with joint issues all the time? To lose weight. So adding any extra dead mass to your kit is almost certainly going to have negative effects. Any excess weight on your body puts more pressure down on your entire system, joints being the areas that will compress and endure the most egregious effects from that compression. Use fewer/lighter magazines, only carry what's truly necessary and spread it around you so it balances. Personally I've mostly found that hydro bladders on the back will cause plastic midcaps on the front of any gear to rise up excessively if anything. After all these years experimenting I mostly use either a small chest rig with basically only a few mags up front, or a compact PC with a small bladder on the back and the rest spread around the front/sides/to a belt. Spreading is kind of the key word here, force = pressure/area. You'll find with most load weights in airsoft that drinking from your back won't have that much effect on kit balance when considering the friction against your torso; just top it up a bit once or twice in a day and it'll be fine.2 points

Training Plates for Balance

I think fitness is worth considering here. Lower back pain is no fun, and whilst I don't think a counterweight is dead weight, i think if it were to get worse the solutions of 1) take weight off your front 2) put weight on your back will only take you so far. Firm no offence intended here but if there is added weight on the front of your torso which isn't kit related, it may be worth investigating. Likewise some exercises for the "core" and pretty much the entire back would be good, i think. as ever there is the proviso that you don't want to over do it as exercise can absolutely make it worse. easy to say exercising for airsoft is "try hard" but i genuinely can't think of a better reason to exercise than making the things you enjoy easier and more comfortable as you get older (and we all are so nothing personal) edit: not completely convinced belt kits are just factually better, perhaps for a multi day event where the walking vastly outweighs the shooting. for your average shoot em skirmish id rather have nothing around my hips at all just for the sake of mobility and comfort.2 points -

Depends. (As always). If I'm playing CQB, I'll generally use either one or two pistols. Not necessarily because they're "better" but because I enjoy usinhg them more. I've also used my vector and arp9 - both of which are perfect for CQB (and also work well outdoors, should the need arise). If you think you might play outdoors, then go for an AEG - as RDB says, there are plenty of good cheap ones available. But, if you really want a pistol, get a pistol - and then if you decide to play outside, get an AEG for that and run your pistol as well. At the end of the day, with airsoft choices, there is no right and wrong - there's just what's right or wrong for you.2 points -

as a general rule it's considered standard to reccommend starting off with an aeg, for cqb purposes a short one as suggested would be perfect. people can and do run pistols only in cqb (and a few nutters do it outdoors too) but a good reliable aeg is something you should always have lying around even just as a backup. start with something basic, like the 904 rocketdogbert reccommends or maybe something like a cm045 if you preferr the ak platform. after that by all means go ham on the pistols.2 points -
The RN still use ballasite rounds on the reg. We use them for firing a soft nosed projectile (colloquially known as the Bosun’s Dildo) from one ship to another to pass lines when you are at sea.2 points

Gate Warfet Setup Help
LSUK reacted to Trooper1454 for a topic
So I've recently bought a gate warfet and I'm trying to setup the pre-cocking and all that and I can't for the life of me figure out how to get it to function as it should, I also can't seem to find a guide anywhere so if someone could give me a hand or point me in the right direction that would be fantastic. The gun I'm trying to fit it to is an arcturus GR16 with standard internals and an m110 spring1 point -
Hi, i started airsoft recently and i didnt buy anything since i didnt know if i would enjoy it. Turns out i do and now im in a bit of a bind. I enjoy CQB alot more than anything else and i really like pistols. My question is, is it a good idea to get a pistol as your first gun? i wanted to get the WE Tech glock 18c since it has a 50 round mag and it can fire full auto so i can compensate in situations when i would need it. Any advice would be great. One more thing i should mention is that my budget is really tight since im a student, its around 200e for now. Thank you in advance1 point

Gate Warfet Setup Help
LSUK reacted to Adolf Hamster for a topic
so for precocking you're gonna want to do the following: with the blue light on (the default starting setting) set active brake and smart trigger to on skip through the rest of the settings till the red light is on it's a bit misleading but there's actually 2 bars for precocking. the first is the one below the red line marked precocking boost- call it the fine setting, the second is the line above the red line (the same strip of lights used for active brake/smart trigger etc on the blue screen)- the coarse adjustment when you adjust the precocking all the way up the lower bar, it'll reset back to no lights and add a light to the top bar so there's a much wider range of adjustment than first appears. then you just need to set the precocking up to your desired level, i'd start with setting up by 1 coarse bar (an entire fine strip) from default, then test. keep doing that until it double fires, then back it off by 1 fine bar at a time until it stops double firing on semi (during this process it may occasionally lock) note that you should fire it a bunch of times when checking as it might initially seem perfect but every tenth shot or so it'll double fire or lock up or something weird. if you have a ported cylinder it can help to view that as it'll give you a good idea where the piston is stopping each time.1 point -

Sourcing Gearbox Shims

I think he only listed them in the last week or so. Up 'til then it's been multi-thickness packs, which I hate too. I have hundreds of shims in a jam jar that I'll probably never use.1 point -
Ah, in all fairness I should have checked in with ak2m4 as I do like his shop and services, It's just that I have never seen an actual airsoft shop just sell the slim ones alone so did not dig very much, it's always the multi spec packs! Good on him though for actually selling something the community wants! - oh well in another 10 years I'll pick up a pack from him 😅1 point

Sourcing Gearbox Shims
SSPKali reacted to Speedbird_666 for a topic
I was in the same boat - I only use 0.1mm shims and was fed up of having to order packs with multiple thicknesses. I've ordered a couple of bags of 0.1mm from here: https://springfasteners.co.uk/product/shim-support-washer-3mm-x-6mm-x-0-1mm-din-988/ A bit more expensive (when you factor the £3 quid postage) but it's a UK company and they arrived within a day or so after ordering. Since then, @ak2m4 has started stocking packs of 100 x 0.1mm shims for £8 here: https://www.ak2m4.co.uk/internal-parts/bushings-shims/xt-shims-01mm1 point -

The HK MP5 is a bit of a slapper indeed 😂. It’s that hand movement that does it. 🤔. Once you perfect the technique it’s the only CQB rif you’d wanna play with. Always puts a smile on my face. #justsayin Edit: I just read that paragraph back and it kinda sounds all wrong. 🤷🏻♂️1 point

there are plenty of variations for budget guns these days, quite a healthy market. in general the cyma range is pretty dependable and jg's offerings aint half bad either. hk slap is the karate chop you do to close the bolt on an mp5 when reloading if you want to look tacticool, totally pointless on an airsoft aeg but still a thing.1 point -
Plague doc was my first thought on seeing it. So great minds was thinking like a scifi version but now will likely go a bit more post apoc. Always the way. No plan ever survives contact with the enemy... most don't make it that far....1 point

Be sure to show your progress! Slightly distracted today. Did a lil rust on my torch and decided after like 2 years to finally heat treat a mask I had bought to get it to sit nicer. Needs a lot of work yet as will be adding mesh lenses. Considering adding fan in the beak or even communication stuff... May add external greebles. Has to get dirt and maby rust and more other works on the paint too. Does give a fairly decent idea of what I'm thinking atm though. May combine with the equivalent of a captain America helm... open to ideas though.1 point

Training Plates for Balance
Lozart reacted to concretesnail for a topic
I'd certainly look awaiting the rear plate for a bladder of some kind then, use it as a way of adding weight to the rear of the carrier. But use water so you can fine tune the weight. If you don't want it sloshing foam can be used as soft baffles. I have a source bladder in the plate pocket if my was901 back panel which worked a treat balancing epg gas mags for my masada.1 point -

Just FYI the Warrior ones work perfectly with NGRS recoil PMGAS...1 point

I had pretty much exactly that setup a while back (Condor belt though). Sold it because it just didn't work for me. So the thing is, while yes, belt rigs move your weight to your hips which is better, I just prefer having my mags on or about my chest. My belt setup has two pistol mags, one rifle mag, dump pouch and holster (it's a two part "shooters belt" style one). For most woodland games I run a variety of chest rigs - micro fight style ones, Mayflower Gen IV and Gen V style ones, a couple of Warrior ones - depending on how the mood takes me and what gun I'm running on the day (if I'm lugging the SAW about I quite often ditch the chest rig completely). I'm more likely to run a plate carrier for CQB sites primarily for a bit more protection (I'm turning into a bit of a wuss in my old age) but while they have dummy plates in they don't outweigh the mags, flahbangs etc on the front. Which is why I said the plates were for balance. Now, I am aware that the extra weight will potentially cause an issue for my weary old bones but truth be told the "tactical crouch" I seem to naturally assume these days puts far more strain on my lower back than the weight I'm carrying, the issue is more that the PC slips forward unless I have it set so tight it's just impossible to move well in it. Hence the idea that if I could balance out the load then I can avoid that issue. As I said when @Tackle mentioned it above I think I need to have a long hard think about what I'm doing and how.1 point

Having a back problem myself I sympathize with you, BUT adding weight to try to offset weight that's causing you pain is never gonna work, it'll just add to the wear & tear on your back & lead to more problems in the long term. The only real solutions are to reduce your load out or change/alter your load carrying kit, bit like your modern Bergen's, the belt system designed to spread some of the weight to the hips, crucially below the spine, where more common weight related injuries occur. Sorry to piss on your bonfire, but if wearing certain kit is causing you pain, likely to become long term, then it's time to reconsider said kit 🤔1 point

Can I Be UKARA Registered Without Being a Skirmisher
george1976 reacted to DRay for a topic
Another covert ‘how can I avoid UKARA’ thread. You can’t, you shouldn’t, you won’t find a single UKAF regular poster who will endorse the sentiment. All of this looks really bad for a sport/hobby that is more or less entirely self regulating, posts are open forum and can be dragged up by anyone who wants to make an argument to legislate against owning grown up toy guns and kill the sport stone dead. TLTR: put £70 into a small business over the course of 56 days and then go mad ordering stuff on Patrol Base for the subsequent 365 days and turn your back bedroom into an armoury. That’s your option. End of story.1 point -

Maybe consider a belt and yoke of some sort and balance the weight out on your hips more. Incorporated with a small chest rig you can carry plenty and distribute your kit better. Rather than carrying unnecessary weight.1 point
