The forever increasing amount of ghillie suits
lokkers and 5 others reacted to Adolf Hamster for a topic
eh, i don't really see an issue with people wearing ghillies. end of the day if you don't know what you're at then draping yourself in mock hedgerow is going to offer the square total of bugger all assistance to your ability be concealed in the same way that owning a gucci set of screwdrivers doesn't make you a top tier airsoft tech. likewise someone who's gifted in the art of the sneak can become invisible almost entirely regardless of their choice of attire. this to me is separate from the other issue with ghillie wearers, to wit, the insistence of ankle armbands or other such lacking of identifiers. if the rest of us mere mortals are gonna have to wear a bright red armband to distinguish friend from foe then there should be no exceptions.6 points -

Re the zip ties, no matter how someone tries to dress it up it's avoiding the chrono and therefore cheating. If you've passed on your feelings to site management and they've ignored you or fobbed you off then definitely name and shame them. Not doing so gives them a free pass to carry on and its human nature that if a person gets away with something once they're far more likely to do it again. As for the blank firing pistol, it does look a bit silly to me but I'd have no problem with it if used sensibly. Afterall many of us use BFGs and disposable pyros which have just as much potential to cause harm5 points -

i've played fields that have on occasion used a blank firing pistol as part of "find the macguffin" games, and in that context ie on a site that allows loud bangs, with everyone under no illusion that the game will end in a literal bang, i see no issue. however random players carrying them as a secondary? at best someone recognises it's a blank, and continues play accordingly at worst someone mistakes it for a real gun, and reacts accordingly in neither case can i see the use of a blank firing pistol in leui of an airsoft pistol has any utility to its user. as for cheating chrono? ban 'em, ban their mums, ban their hair, ban their pet chinchilla, ban their best freind's mate's plumbers aunt, ban their children and lay a curse upon their house unto the 9th generation. as for sites that have insufficient chrono/enforcement procedures? well i'd say play somewhere else but that's how i ended up leaving the sport when i ran out of sites.4 points -
1000%, they've got the time to go shopping for assorted coloured ties, but not to walk 50 yards to the chrono, definitely cheating pos & if I was a site owner I'd give them a lifetime ban, their hot guns have the potential to bring a H&S shitstorm down on the site.4 points

There was a lad turned up to our last game in full Templer night gear, breastplate, helmet gauntlets, white tabbard and sodding great sword. Last game of the day he had 5 lives and about 6 guards , everyone else had to hunt him. No one ever spotted him, shiny metal and white tabbard and he still managed to conceal himself so we never saw him.3 points

As has been said, it's all very well to load up with the fancy kit, but knowing how to use it is far more important, so if ever offered first aid courses on any level, especially if works paying for them, take them, you might make all the difference one day. To the same degree, within reason, someone with training can utilise all sorts of non medical items in order to stabilise a situation, case in point, when a colleague of mine had been shot, properly shot lol, standard wound dressings wouldn't do the job, but packing the wound with my own Compton & Webb beret stopped him bleeding out. Fucker still owes me a new beret 🤬3 points

I was told when training to FREC3 that as long as you didn’t go beyond your training (start trying open heart surgery in the safe zone) you would be safe. Basic life saving training is great as is noting down time of incident, what the incident was (fell from X meters / hit by car approx 20mph / fat sod tried running for the flag 😂), last intake (food/drink) and output, take the pulse every 5mins and note down with time. Plus any medical history, medication, etc. When the grown ups arrive tell them you have info to hand over and go through the details. Can save a lot of time and prevent duplication. Training over gear most of the time…or you end up with a pack like this (everything except an AED!) GoRuck GR1 plus admin pocket and side pockets!3 points

Bought second hand at the end of last year for a lot more with a lot less. Since, I've replaced some of the attachments and had more upgrades put into it. Very recently it has been serviced and upgraded by BZ, having had the gearbox shimmed and new hop upgrades installed by them, so it's good to go. I dare not to think what I've spent on this, but its well above what I'm willing to let it go for, so get a decent deal. Speaking of letting it go, I just don't use it enough anymore as I prefer GBBRs and make the most of the time I can use them in the year, so its pointless having this money sitting around doing naff all. I carry a Tasmanian Tiger IFAK pouch on my belt with an Israeli Bandage, Quick Clot, burn gel (seen many a burnt finger from pyro), gloves, a normal bandage, and some plasters. Having knelt down on all sorts, and having seen Dog Soldiers one too many times I carry it to stop proper bleeding enough to get out of the woods/game zone. Considering the size of some sites it could take 10 minutes to get first aid to me, and that’s no bueno for a decent bleed. It’s for me to make sure I’m okay, or for someone else to do the same. It doesn’t have anything in it that can cause me proper harm before the marshals get there.2 points

Yeah, I wasn't quite surely what it was when I saw/heard the blank firer as it's not like the Marshals pre-warned anyone and it was just a regular open skirmish day. The Marshal had a word with the guy and I didn't hear it for the rest of the time I was there, but seems the answer to my question was "No...unless you're a regular" Seems us sensible lot will have to sit around in the "safe zone" with full eye and hearing protection.2 points -
Personally I would not support the use of anything larger than 209 and certainly not indoors. 209s are plenty loud enough for people in the 'kill' zone to know they are hit. 9mm and over is loud enough to cause hearing damage if it lands near someone2 points

1. I get bringing blank firers to special events where it makes sense. I think Milsim West do it well and it can really add to the immersion of those events, but as long as it's clearly advertised that blank firers will be in use, so hearing protection is advised. Someone brought a blank firing pistol to a Vietnam game I was at and it was well used. However, bringing one to a skirmish is dumb as skirmish is meant to be for everyone, from your meal team six milsim operator to your speedyboi with a HPA AAP-01 to your 14 year old rental kid. 2. This is just flat out cheating and these players should be kicked off site, even if their guns are indeed under. I don't like chrono and when I started nobody chronoed and everyone was fine, but with heavier BBs around, as well as the hobby being far more mainstream than back then (still niche, but today's turnouts are way higher than the mid 2000s), you need to have chrono because, unfortunately, not everyone can be trusted. I know that my guns are under as I tinker with all my stuff and own a chrono to test for power, but I still go through chrono and have no issues doing so. With gas guns, going through chrono helps me make those fine tuning adjustments as sometimes if it's warm, the NPAS in my MWS needs turning down or the bolt in my m700/m40s needs turning down. I would talk to the marshalls about both, and if they didn't do anything about it I'd probably find a new site. The blank firer is less an issue for me as I have hearing protection and can bring it no problem, but people skipping chrono is a big no-no for me as I don't want someone to bring a hot gun and take out my teeth or my eyepro because they're splooging full auto at 1.5J at point blank range, or they're doing their best Kicking Mustang impression and running a bolt action at 3J and also have no concept of MED (the latter part of that is pretty common...)2 points -

Raise with the head marshall/site manager for both of those instances. Blank fire can add to the immersion of the event, but I'm sure no site organiser would want to alienate customers who don't want it included. It might be that they add in a "we plan to allow X person to use their blank fire pistol today, if anyone objects X person won't" etc. The coloured zip tie thing is cheating other people's health and safety and absolutely has to be dealt with. If after being given the opportunity to manage these things they continue and the head marshall is aware. Name and shame the site on a forum/Facebook and vote with your feet by not returning. If you don't name and shame, it effectively encourages sites to bend for regulars etc and puts other players in a position of supporting a company that has practices that they wouldn't support or puts them at risk of serious injury.2 points -
The 'What have you just bought' Thread
Darkmikey22 and one other reacted to C-Diddy for a topic
At the beginning of the year I decided to take the plunge and make a second MWS build. Although I'm really happy with my first, which I run completely stock, standfast a SixG nub and externals, this one I plan on tinkering with a bit. I started buying parts a few months back, and yesterday the last ones arrived. I'm building a 14.5" SOCOM URG-I from the following purchases: · TM M4A1 Carbine base · HAO Mk16 13.5” handguard · HAO SOCOM Daniel Defense 14.5” outer barrel · HAO Surefire 4-prong flash hider · HAO Geiselle low profile gas block · HAO Geiselle Ultra Precision trigger guard · HAO SF 556 SOCOM suppressor (hardcore version) · Angry Gun Geiselle Airborne Charging Handle · Magpul K2+ grip · Magpul M-LOK hand stop · Magpul SL Stock · BavTac MHN · Bavtac Titanium Zet Plate · BavTac 140% nozzle return spring · Blue Force Gear padded VCAS (Olive Drab) · Blue Force Gear QD sling swivel x2 · WADSN metal NGAL I may also add a Magpul BAD lever and some rail covers, but for now Romeo Dunn on the purchasing. To complete the build I'm going to repurpose a HAO Geiselle Super Precision scope mount, Vortex Crossfire II 1-4x 24 scope and Element Surefire Scout Light M600. Before I start though, I want to get the gun out, box fresh, and run a few hundred rounds through it as is, and measure stock performance, before I start dicking around. edit - Forgot to add that, as great as the HAO suppressor is, don't buy the Hardcore version like I did. Thing weighs a ton. The cheaper Airsoft version would've been a better choice.2 points -

I have a couple. 1 Is your typical plasters, ibuprofen, paracetamol, competed, immodium, tissues. Your booboo one basically. Any minor injuries, ailments etc that you wouldn't need to inform a marshall about and just deal with yourself. It's come in super useful especially some pain meds that a friend had to use when his back went out at a very remote 3 day milsim. He could barely crawl, 24 hours later, some pain meds and hot water bottles and he could then at least walk and sort himself to be able to get home. My other is a full on tq, hemostatic combat gauze, Israeli bandage etc. I do some real steel shooting and while theres a massive focus on safety, accidents happen. A lot of my kit is used for both hobbies and it's a pain to take it off, the weight isn't much and it means it's always there. I'm not qualified, but I have done some research on the usage and I figure if I've been shot (by accident) I'd rather some have a vague idea and the kit than nothing at all. My view is that this isn't treatment, it's hoping to do enough to keep someone alive until they can be treated by real medical people. I'd like a couple more full on life saver ones, primarily for the car should I be in or near a serious incident2 points -

IFAK on my belt kit with plasters, a few small dressings, small bandages, wound closure strips, sterile water etc, and a larger, better stocked first aid kit I keep in my daysack back at the safezone. I do also have an FFD but, to be fair, that's probably overkill. I also have paracetamol, ibuprofen and a shit ton of electrical tape because you can fix anything with the correct application and quantity. Like @SSPKali says, some basic first aid training is highly recommended as it's just good life skills and you never know. Also, again as touched on in the same post, the CAT tourniquets on eBay or Amazon are as much use as tits on a fish, and if you do have a real one, you'll probably do more harm than good if you use it. Yeah I guess there could be a dry solder joint in the FCS with all that heat but there's nothing visible, no scorch marks from a burnt out item. As for the selector, I dunno, it was a tight fit before, but it's too stable now to have just changed with a bit of heat. A bit more levering and maybe a polish on the inside and it'll be ok. I've sent off a contact form message to Double Eagle asking what might be wrong and where I can buy a replacement unit if I need one... And I sent a message to Will at Spec Ops. Maybe he'll know as they have 904's as rentals. And maybe he'll have a boneyard gun I get the control unit from.1 point -

There's always potential for an ambulance chaser to bill you for their time, but I strongly suspect that if they prevail against an untrained good Samaritan (rather than a professional whose indemnity insurance settles out of court), then it'll be the first time. I'm sure there will be a first time, eventually - I mean, nobody thought unpaid amateur volunteer referees would be held liable, until Vowles - but it's not a concern that would put me off having a go if someone is spurting or choking or taking a no-pulse-sleep.1 point

The trouble is too many people think a ghillie suit is a magical invisibility cloak, whereas in reality the best camo in the world is useless if your fieldcraft is crap. Agreed. I answered my own question - Real SMR Rail on VFC HK416A5
RostokMcSpoons reacted to LzChase for a topic
This is mainly a piece of info I hope people will find if they have the same problem as me, as I was unable to find any info online explicitly stating that this gun (GBBR Version) will accept a real SMR rail. I decided there was only one way to find out. Turns out it fits perfectly, like a custom tailored glove. No wobble, snug fit, bolt fits perfectly too. No modifications required. On the A5 model, It clears the gas block without any issues. VFC seems to have built this platform to almost full Milspec. The only parts that have needed modification to fit are a Magpul CTR stock which wobbled a bit, so I shimmed the buffer tube, and Magpul rail cover panels, where I filed away a very very small bit of plastic as they were not locking properly, but it was very little. Magpul ladder rail covers fit, real steel ejection port covers fit, Magpul MBUS fit, so do trigger guards, grips and magazine assists, all simply drop in and go. Midwest rails fit, as proven by YouTube channel Airsoft Headquarters. I assume any real milspec rail will be a drop in fit.1 point -

As a relative noob to airsoft I know for sure I wouldn't want to play at any site where chrono isn't taken seriously. Especially HPA, which from the little I've read seems to have the most potential for fuckery. I don't think there's any reason to protect the site or players that are doing this, the rules are supposed to make the game as enjoyable and safe as possible for everyone. I can't lie I love the idea of milsim and defo want to experience that so to me the use of blanks/grenades seems super cool, but if it happened at a normal game day with no warning I'd be very confused and concerned. Having only played a few times so far, even grenades going off nearby shit me up something rotten1 point -

People is dumb. When I used to do historic reenactment, I felt there was never enough done to check that nobody had brought a sharp weapon or tool from the living history side onto the battlefield, accidentally or otherwise. And as with the gun incident linked above, the problem is that you're trusting not just the nutter who brought it, but every other random nutter who might pick it up and not realise that it's "live" before cocking around with it (see the example of a paintball marshal getting his eye shot out by another marshal with a "cleared" marker). Shouldn't happen, does happen, will keep happening.1 point -
Does it? I'd be genuinely fascinated to see UK case law on that. There may be some, I haven't checked for a while. This is as good a time as any to remind airsoft marshals that you are adopting a personal duty of care to the players, regardless of whether you know that, or even if you're being paid a penny. If you see something going badly wrong and don't act to stop it, you can personally be on the hook: see Vowles vs Evans. The main priority at a typical airsoft site will be to get a casualty out of the woods and to an area where they can receive better / professional aid. There are three exceptions that spring to mind: 1. They're bleeding badly. But with geardos around, there's going something to hand that you can use to staunch it or form a tourniquet. Yes, there's the attendant risks of making it worse if you mess it up, which is why I agree that training trumps equipment. 2. Charlie cops a saucepan in the throat. That means a set of airways in various sizes, and someone who actually knows how to use them. I used to carry said set when I did group motorcycle ride-outs (where there's a fair chance of a passing medical professional stopping to assist), but it's such an edge case for airsoft that it doesn't seem worthwhile. 3. Cardiovascular, and specifically a myocardial infarction. The one thing I always carry for that, everywhere, is aspirin, and I'd advocate it for everyone. eBay "keyring pill holder" or similar, buy a bunch, pop a couple of aspirin in them and pass them out to friends and family, please.1 point

CQB gun. Cyma m14, but with a TM m14 stock. Not 100% on the optic mount at the moment because I know the Laylax mount doesn't work well with the Cyma receiver (had to use it; outer barrel didn't work with the TM receiver) and ends up being off by a fraction of a degree, meaning you can never zero the scope properly. Currently using the G&P scope mount as I want a low profile mount, but if that doesn't work like the Laylax mount doesn't, I know my TM scope mount will work, it's just a bit higher up. The thing about the blank firer is this. If you're on an airsoft site, and some rando standing next to you pulls out a RIF (so far, so normal) points it at people, and starts making real gun bang noises with it, it would be a proportionate reaction to attempt to end what appears to be a murderous rampage, instantly, and using any amount of force. Nobody would bring a real gun to an airsoft game? Already happened. If the site allows it (and I can't see why it would), it shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone on the day.1 point -
Possession of and the discharging of a firearm in a public place ? I hope that he has his ‘good reason’ lined up. If he’s providing SFX, then I assume the site management has squared away the use of blank firers as SFX and why they have requested it from a customer / have authorised a customer to do so. The sites risk assessment & mitigations have taken this into account and the insurers made aware of course - and other customers have been advised, it’s in the waiver that they’ve signed to be aware of as well.1 point
