  2. I love sights on basically everything outside of pistols (because I crawl along the floor a lot and would probably break lots of pistol red dots...) and think that if you take the time to zero a sight properly they are a massive help on pretty much any gun. Personally, I am a big telescopic sight fan because I like my bolt actions and long guns. I think bolt actions and DMRs benefit from having a 3x and upwards variable scope, as you take the shots with 3x, but can use higher magnification for reconnaissance purposes. If you're going to play the sniper role, at least play it right This does extend to normal rifles; I love LPVOs! 1-6x scopes are fantastic for any rifle, as you can use it like a red dot on 1x, but if you want to take some longer range shots or want to see where your shots are going you can put the magnification up to wherever you need it. I only run a red dot on my MWS because 1. I had it, and 2. I don't want to remove the front sight and the front sight very much interferes with using an LPVO. I also think that red dots are great on rifles and SMGs as if you set up a red dot and zero it properly, it's a great aid for lining up those shots quickly and accurately.

    First rifle advice.

The problem is that if they were that degradable, then they'd start to break up on the slow boat from China. The last thing you want is BB's shattering while being shot. I've had some biodegradables start to surface-craze about 2 years after being opened and first used, but actually breaking down meaningfully takes much, much longer. Here's what landowners and wives shouldn't read about PLA: https://www.biosphereplastic.com/biodegradableplastic/uncategorized/is-pla-compostable/ https://www.researchgate.net/publication/304615824_Mineralization_of_Poly_lactic_acidPLA_Poly_3-hydroxybutyrate-co-valeratePHBV_and_PLAPHBV_Blend_in_Compost_and_Soil_Environments And that's pure PLA. As you go heavier - which means anything above 0.2g - then you have to start adulterating the plastic with heavier Mystery Mass, like ceramic or metal. Some heavier grey BBs actually have iron in them, which I'd reckon is more degradable than PLA. So if possible, I'd suggest a net and some sort of tray or tarp to collect the buggers. 12" sticky targets are available which actually work quite well: the BBs stick, then (slowly) roll down them and into a tray. BBs get everywhere even when you're trying to be careful: I need to give my garage a good sweeping up before Mrs Borg gets that look again. And yes, any safety glasses will be fine for self protection, i.e. DIY or even sports glasses as long as they're polycarbonate and not perspex. A mid capacity magazine or two is a decent shout, but I'd see how you get on with the supplied high capacity magazine. It will hold hundreds of BBS, but needs winding up with a wheel underneath it. Not actually that onerous, plenty of folk use them in skirmishes. But mid caps still hold over a hundred BBs, and are load-and-shoot without the winding. You'll need a "speedloader" to fill them. E.g. https://bbguns4less.co.uk/products/cyma-g36-mid-cap-mag-also-fits-src-g36-130-rounds.html and https://bbguns4less.co.uk/products/vigor-bb-speed-loader-150rd-in-clear.html (larger loaders are available, I'm just guessing about where you're likely to be buying, and looking at what they have in stock). I'd sound a note of caution though that airsoft magazine compatibility isn't brilliant, even within brands. My JG G36 fed fine from its supplied hi-cap but didn't like the mid caps that I bought for it. Much of airsoft is a gamble. True, but you're looking at £45-50 including delivery for a SkyRC S65 and a decent capacity 7.4V lipo. I'd say that's required for skirmishing, but for plinking the provided nimh will actually work just fine. It's not like trigger response and ROF are critical. As with the magazines, I'd say: run it as it is out of the box, and see if you enjoy it. Then consider a 2nd round of purchasing. Or consider dropping by a skirmish with it - folk of all ages and abilities enjoy airsoft, and plenty of us here play at a very placid pace.

  11. Cheap LPVOs are crap, good LPVOs are stupid expensive. LPVOs are heavy and often lackluster in either 1x performance (in terms of 1x not being a true 1x) or shit tier eyebox when magnification is applied. A more cost effective way would be a micro dot stacked on top of a fixed 4x, half the weight, a quarter of the price and very comparable performance with, often, better glass quality.

  13. I’ve only played airsoft since 2018, and always had some sort of red dot thing mounted to my RIF’s My latest aeg has nothing on it and I’m quite happy using the iron sites (I can’t find something that suits it (Tart I know)) Having played Paintball in my younger years, for circa 20 years , it was all about muscle memory and snap shooting Its put me in good shape, I can genuinely pop out and hit a target probably up to 30 meters quite accurately without the use of any optic or iron site at all I find it just down to practice Getting comfy with my rif and it’s feel, balance, and where it will hit Try it Get a barricade that you can stand and hide behind , and lean out to the side to shoot at a target then get back in do this 100 times doing it faster & faster and eventually your muscles learn how far you have to move out to get to the “learned” position to shoot Once you have done this for a few dozen times, you can actually just snap straight out, pull the trigger, get back into cover , and hear the “HIT” Massively satisfying My optics are fitted 80% for fashion factor 👌

  14. For my aegs I tend to run a red dot sight, although it's partly for looks tbh. For cqb I don't really have a choice about point shooting as I tend to use as this is my primary. No rear sight and the front bead sight is obscured by the shock chord

  15. I got a magnifier to see where my bbs were truly going and never looked back! Granted I play the sneaky role, hiding in a hedge and popping people through tiny gaps in the foliage 😈 But even playing assault I find a red dot invaluable to landing the bbs right away. You say they are pointless given the "ballistic properties" of bbs, but honestly a bb's relatively flat trajectory makes a sight pretty ideal. So long as you account for height over bore you can put a zeroed scope on a fairly consistent shooting pew pew and you can be hitting targets with the first bbs 10/10 times. No need for good light conditions to know where you're pointing.

  17. As per the other thread ….. …. valid defences for buying a black gun / RIF include airsoft skirmishing and reenactment (among some others) The MVT covers membership as a reenactor in the Military Vehicle Trust, airsoft skirmishing is normally ‘proven’ by playing three times at an airsoft site and gaining site membership with UKARA registration Ask the shop why they are asking you to conspire to commit fraud to justify their quicker sale rather than you taking the required time to play - they are probably worried that you will learn more about airsoft and buy something else from someone else

2 uppers, one more civilian inspired build that still needs a PEQ, the other more GWOT style that still needs a surefire and a sling. Final versions, especially the GWOT style will look major goofy set up wise but they work for the type role each one has. I’ll repost when finished as they’re “nearly” finished…already planning another upper 🥲 Deck’seption…

Happily ranges out with aeg's and very accurate too by airsoft standards. So PB's 395 is optamistic unless mine , which came from PB, is a Japanese market one . Might have a restricter fitted or a weaker spring, I'll have a look when I open it up but not bothering to do that untill something breaks.

  22. The splash pattern is anodised, I got it done to match a KC02 It’s a pattern that Rogueworx call Nightwind. I’ve got another Capa/KC combo in a splatter pattern called High Roller but I’d been holding off on sharing it much until my 4.3 Adv frame arrives The 4.3 frame, rare as they are, has been sourced for me by Kyle as he’s a total legend and may even be inbound. Wooden Capa grips are from a brand called Pandora Arms. They’re very thin covers that just adhere to the standard TM grip. They’re really beautiful but time will tell if they’re up to taking a hit!

From those choices I'd go with the CYMA. Good robust internals and should work well out of the box. Specna are good but the CORE is polymer body. Don't know about King Arms but their L1A1 is highly regarded. (Its out of stock anyway)

Tell her they're good for soil drainage 😆 For garden plinking you can use any eye protection. Even the work glasses from a pound shop will be OK. Anything else? : You might want to get an extra magazine or two? Note there are mid capacity (about 120BBs) that must be loaded with a special loader (cheap to buy) and High capacity which hold up to 400BBs loosely and must be wound after a few shots.

  34. Weight, balance, side picatinny rails that can't be easily removed, realising that it's pretty much just a G36 in a different body with a price premium, the stock comb, the pistol grip and trigger pull. Basically, it wasn't an M4. So yeh...I think that just about covers it. Shame, I loved it based on the photos alone. I'm just glad that I didn't blow a wedge of cash on it (learnt from hard experience with the Proline Beretta ARX-160). But in a classic case of not following my own advice - I just ordered a gun on impulse purely on it's looks. It arrives tomorrow. I'm a fucking idiot.

  35. Downloaded a KWA Ronin battery extension model from Thingiverse, but it was a bit shit and Fusion 360 is pretty rubbish editing STL files. 36. If you can get to an airsoft shop, try a few guns before committing to a 'non-M4' platform. The reason why: - I desperately wanted a CZ Bren 805. Nearly ordered one online. Thank god i didn't because when I checked one out at the Zero One showroom, I hated it. - As above for the APS UAR - As above for a Tavor - As above for an AUG - As above for the ICS Hera Arms Saved me a frikken fortune in the end. Your bio say 'West London', there might be a couple of airsoft shops that you could visit - Bespoke Airsoft springs to mind. You don't have to buy from them, just have a fondle of the RIFs before parting with your cash.

  40. Just got a delivery from Varusteleka, my favorite surplus store. Making sure I'm covered for the wetter weather, so picked up some goretex flecktarn overtrousers, a field case to use as a general manbag, a molle cigarette pouch, and some German combat chocolate. Trousers are a touch short - not disastrously so - but there's plenty of room in them if I need to layer up, and the braces are welcome.

    First rifle advice.

I'd go the other way. Given the low number that you'll get through while plinking, and the cost of the gun itself, the extra cost per bottle is negligible. And I agree on bios, PLA breaks down in an industrial composter at 60C, not lying on the grass in Scottish weather. The "BIO" label is really just for fooling landowners and wives.

    I Love Airsoft but....

Blimey, where do I start, @Cr0-Magnon, my "burden", a lifetime of crap has left me with cumulative ptsd & the associated depression/anxiety that goes with, on the physical side there's a wrecked back from two serious rta's, both knees awaiting replacement thanks to serving in the infantry & years of ice hockey/rugby/boxing/running, add to that I've dealing with a growing prostate cancer since 2020, & even though I'm having treatment, no one can tell me if it's close to being beaten, which can be a daily mindfuck if you let it. BUT, & THIS IS A MASSIVE BUT TO EVERYONE HERE...... we have one life, for some it's incredibly short, for others it's painfully long, & for those in the middle it can be meh at times, But if there's stuff you love doing, then find a way to do it, for me it's anything from robocop style knee braces, back braces, & copious mounts of pharmaceuticals if required, jabs in the knees too if I can, what am I gonna do, fuck em up, that ships sailed lol. If I can't do what I enjoy whats the point, Airsoft, riding bikes & hopefully getting back out on the water on my yam super jet at some point in the future once the knees are sorted. In your position I'd be considering a fencing style mask with safety glasses underneath, & change your playing style to minimise the possibility of falls or knocks to the head, essentially slow the fuck down & embrace being a sneaky bastard, works for me, tortoise & the hare lol. On Thursday I lost a good friend, 77 years young, all his life he had numerous serious health problems, including a severe curvature of his spine & diverticulitis, later life prostate cancer, but he became an awesome teacher & scout leader, literally inspiring so many & often leading by example in sports etc. So don't let shit get you down, you'll figure out a way to overcome it if you really want to. Good luck matey👍

  46. The sharp edges from the thumb and grip safety on my TRP was chewing up the webbing on my supple medium sized hands, so I made a quick weekend project out of blending the grip safety into the frame. -------------------------------------------------- The guarder thumb safety for the V10 model has the correct design for a springfield style safety, but has a 90 degree edge which really digs in to the web of your hand. You can see the RS safety comes with a rather steep bevel to prevent this. I had initially ground this out a bit, but still wasn't enough for my sensitive hands. Similar issues with fitting a hi-capa grip safety to a 1911 frame. The Nova grip safety is really good quality but just doesn't fit correctly with the Guarder frame. Was originally going to mark the grip safety blue to make sure I didn't alter the shape of it too much. Unfortunately I got the wrong marking fluid, should have gotten dykem blue layout fluid but got the non-drying kind instead. Ended up smearing the blue everywhere Blended the grip & thumb safety, both in the engaged position. Initial grind with half-round file Removed file marks with sandpaper. Remnants of the blue smurf paste seen in the background Finished results. Might clean up the uneven angles on the thumb safety a bit more, but pretty pleased how it turned out as it is. Now the grip safety portion feels like grabbing on to a stick of butter. Now I just need to decide a cerakote color to refinish... What do you think? Should I go with the original bushed/bead-blasted two tone (left) or a overall satin stainless color (right)? I don't think springfield offers this two-tone brushed finish on their TRP's, and only does this on their "loaded" models. P.S. Tutorial for you handymen to try it out if you'd like
