Calling all that have a 3D printer, MOSQUITO Open Beta test!
Jedi_Master and 5 others reacted to AK47frizzle for a topic
Well…. It’s this time again… So, some of you may have seen my previous posts in the past about the alpha and beta test. Well, now, here is another one: the MOSQUITO open beta test. This is the third iteration of the MOSQUITO which is an open-source, modular, 3D-printed airsoft kit designed to take a V3 gearbox and hop-up chamber from a TM-based AK platform and turn them into a pure menacing machine on the airsoft battlefield, being super compact and lightweight with the same fire power as any other gun. Capable as both a primary weapon or as a sidearm backup. Able to be HPA'd as well. The first iteration was very basic and did what was necessary: The second iteration refined a lot of the functions and aesthetics: This third iteration completely overhauls the design and enhances the printability of the model: It now has beautiful and durable textured sides on many of the parts, a reworked and more reliable magazine catch, a completely reworked and ingenious battery grip solution, and many more changes. But primarily, the MOSQUITO is now open-source meaning you can make one too! It has been designed to be as easy to print as possible. The main features of the MOSQUITO: Compact - measuring only 590mm unfolded and 383mm folded Lightweight - weighing only around 1.5kg when fully assembled (AEG form) Modular - easily swap parts out with a few pins (more to come in the future) Clever battery grip solution - a small gun doesn't have to mean a small battery Never fear for spare parts - open-source allows parts to be forever available What will you need to make it work? V3 gearbox (TM AK based) Complete AK hop-up chamber (inc barrel and bucking) Stick type battery (max length 112mm, width 21mm, height 19mm) MP5 magazines (CYMA for best compatability) If you are after a tiny platform that packs a huge punch, this is it. Woah there, single file please. So, how to participate in the open beta test? You can purchase a kit from me which includes everything (send me a message). Or, if you have your own 3D printer, you can download the 3D files and have a go at printing it yourself. Or, you can ask someone to make one for you. If you decide to make one yourself, you will have to source the screws and components yourself. Most are common parts and can be found in online stores. I have made a guide for both 3D printing and assembly instructions which list the parts required and they can be found at the bottom of the both Printables and GitHub pages. If you decide to partake in the test, I'd highly consider joining the HYBRID AIRSOFT discord server to provide feedback and discuss the kit. The test will run from now to some time in June. No final date yet. And this is the exact kind of smug virtuous “oh no one complained when America blah blah blah or when China blah blah blah or the big bad British Empire blah blah blah” comments is why I didn’t mention about not buying from Russia due to a moral standpoint originally . Im sorry but all your trying to do is score some “look at me I'm so right on and politically aware on my high horse” points , what your comparing to the Russian invasion of the Ukraine is puerile at best and bloody offensive at worst ALL Governments are guilty of some heinous crimes at sometime or another but Russia is committing genocide against a sovereign nation live on tv 24/7 ! Plus how do you suggest we sanction China and America then seeing as China is responsible for 28.7% and America 16.8% of the Global manufacturing output making them No’s 1&2 respectively(fyi the Russian federation is 15th with petrochemical but 47th without) ?1 point

Pre-cocking fnar I'm so sorry is what can improve first-shot semi-response. Active braking can cure overspin. But then so can pre-cocking: there's a fair amount of overlap. Ah, about that. Was the "M90" spring in a wrapper marked M90? If so, was it pre-opened? I ask because Specnas tend to come with an M90 and an M120. Mine came with the M90 fitted, and the M120 spring in an open M90 wrapper. Depending on who you bought from, you may just have put the M120 in. If you're going to get into tinkering and teching, a basic chronograph is a game-saver. Get ready for some "u wot m8?". Airsoft is very conservative and tends to be years behind RC. Brushed motors are still very much the default, and airsofters still tend to recommend ancient chargers like the B6 rather than the S65. Take anything you hear from us with a huge pinch of salt and if you think you know better about anything electrical, you probably do. Airsoft M4 AEGs (with the exception of stuff like PTWs) are pretty generic. This covers getting the gearbox out: This covers the gearbox internals. You have a "V2" gearbox, common to M4s. There are loads of alternative videos. One thing I'd stress is to take the spring out before opening the gearbox, to avoid the risk of it kersproinging the internals into hyperspace. Magnets (how do they work?) are a great shout for keeping parts together, or holding the anti-reversal latch and gears in place while you re-assemble. All that said, I'd suggest finding an excuse to buy a second primary before you open up your first one. Having a completely un-"improved" gun in the bag can be a day-saver.1 point -

Velaryon reacted to RostokMcSpoons for a topic
Yeah, I've not seen a 907 in the flesh but I think that's a 'forged vs billet' look... or is that 907 vs 908? I forget. I did ask the question back when I was choosing the DE in the first place... but the big diff is the 904's polymer vs 907 metal receiver. I think some of the 904s have aluminium handguards, it's just(?) the G that is entirely polymer. I know lots of people talk about Chinesium pot-metal etc but to be honest I'm not sure I could tell the difference between good and bad metal in the guns I've seen. So I may not be the ideal judge on the DE. But damn it I love the thing regardless: Someone here claimed (a long time ago) that 'reliability' was an endearing characteristic. I pooh-poohed it at the time, but I've since entirely come around to that idea, given how well the DE has worked for me in the six months I've had it (with the exception of when the spring turned to cheese and the FPS fell off a cliff!) On the day I got it, plus Kobra red-dot. Current loadout with the camo cover (not done up properly on the stock)... and suppressor, stubby foregrip, PTS EPS stock, Amazon-special red dot, Lonex flash mag, single point sling attachment.1 point -

On doing some forensic analysis, I've had to file mine a bit both on the outside at the top, to get it into the G36 magwell, and also inside to get STANAG mags to go in without using Thor's hammer. I may also have run a rat-tail file up the BB tube as it's a little kinky as stock.1 point -

there's a difference between doing things that are required for day to day life, like driving to work, cooking, and keeping yourself warm and spending money on frivolous luxuries that you can absolutely go without. we should be incredibly grateful that the cost of this war for us in the uk is being charged in pounds sterling and not blood. individually maybe not, the point is when done collectively all the little slices of fuck all add up to make something of substance. every Russian factory/shop that shuts down due to lack of sales is a crowd of disgruntled workers who won't be fans of how Putin's government has messed up their lives.1 point -

Rogerborg reacted to RostokMcSpoons for a topic
When I hear "honey Badger", I think of the original Ares with the top and bottom handstops. Is that the specific look you want? Given the low regard for Ares reliability, but if it's really just the long hand guard you're after, then I humbly suggest https://www.patrolbase.co.uk/double-eagle-m904a-honey-badger-rifle-w-falcon-fire-control-system1 point -

Druid799 reacted to Floperator for a topic
Funny that people don't feel the same way about sending money to American or Chinese companies whenever their respective governments gun down a minibus full of kids, assassinate some journalists or harvest organs from prisoners. Nor for that matter did anyone seem to be all that bothered about buying Russian kit in the aftermath of Georgia and Chechnya. We've had a hand in demolishing a few countries ourselves in the last few decades. Let's not get carried away with framing this as a moral choice, or implying some kind of treason or direct contribution to whatever misery the Russian government is inflicting at this moment. If people want to draw a line with where they spend their own money then fair enough - personally I don't buy anything from Amazon, but I'm not going to judge people who do. On a practical level you'd have to be nuts to try and mail order Russian replica firearms parts at the moment. But it sounds like some people are a few newspaper headlines away from burning their cyma ak74s at the moment and it's all a bit silly and hypocritical imo.1 point -

Some Ukrainian guys that I know went home to fight when the invasion began; they are all still alive and doing their bit to defeat the Putinist fascists. I will not buy anything that even slightly benefits Russia until the country sorts itself out.1 point -
Hard agree with the posters above. I'll not purchase anything from Russia or Belorussia now, most likely forever. As someone who mostly does Soviet WW2 airsoft, that does make getting good kit difficult as the main suppliers are either in Russia, Belorussia or Ukraine. But WW2 airsoft is a nicety that my friends and family who live under the Russian bombardments wish they could go back to. War is much nicer with toy guns.1 point
