FPs ok - joules too hot?

Hi chaps, A new experience for me today. I played at my usual site using my usual .25s and the same gun I’ve always used there and which has passed chrono fine before. I had, to be fair, just changed to a Maxx hop unit and maple leaf bucking. Today at chrono it was shooting 320-330 fps - but 1.27-1.3 Joules which was over limit. We tried with several chronographs and got the same result. field limit is 1.14J for Joules and (in all honesty) this was the first time I was aware that they measure J and FPS. to be fair they let me play locked on semi (have a Titan so that’s no issue really) but this is a new one one me. I wasn’t aware you could have FPS quite that way under the limit (even on .25s) but still be too hot on the Joules. any idea how I can remedy?

  6. Hey all, My name is Steven. Live just outside of Whitby, North Yorkshire (any members nearby?). Played my first game of airsoft last weekend at District 23 Billingham. Man was it fun, the most fun I have had in countless years. My only regret... waiting until I was 33 to try it out. That being said I can't wait to go and play again. Made a few purchases already to make the next game a little more comfortable as the rental face pro was awful. So purchased some Bolle goggles, a lower face mesh mask and got some armored gloves from the site on the night. I already have my heart set on a certain rifle but I know my best bet is to just go out and play for now with rental. My closest site is District 23 with Dirty dog not too much further and in the other direction have SAC101. Sure looks like a very informative and friendly community on here and look forward to getting stuck into the sport some more. I'm a tech geek at heart too so am excited to also learn as much as I can about what goes on inside the RIFs as much as the outside. Thanks fur 'avin' me (as we would say up 'ere)

  9. i can understand where your coming from, kinetic energy as-applied to airsoft chrono'ing is literally gcse level science. but at the same time, it is a very common misconception in this hobby, not helped by the convoluted way limits are stated mixing up metric and imperial units in the most classic of british fashions. so it's not really all the beneficial to be too harsh on folks that get fooled by it.

FPs ok - joules too hot?

Don't worry mate, some people don't know the difference between a statement & a question, it's not like you asked "wot am bestest gnu" 😜. At a guess, when you fitted the new hop parts & reassembled, you prob drastically improved the air seal, which is obviously a good thing, easiest option is a new spring, especially if you've got a quick change box?

FPs ok - joules too hot?

Errr… if you actually read what I wrote it’s clear that I understand they are two different things - what I was surprised by was the idea that FPS would be quite a bit below limit but joules still over the limit - particularly as the same gun (with the only change being the hop unit and rubber) was passed by the same site multiple times.

Thanks guys, @GAMBLE just subbed your youtube, I will check it out when I got some free time. Already watched countless videos and found some tubers I like and many who I don't... no names mentioned. Cant wait to delve into the off site side of things with my own gear and see what makes these things tick. I'm a tinkerer for sure.

  15. Guilty of spending more money (again): - EARMOR M32 Gen2 headset - Multicam Black shirt and trousers from EmersonGear - M12 Sidewinder speed loader - a metric ton of precision tools from Japan 🇯🇵 Still waiting for the verdict on the PDR-C, and I need to sort out my C4-10 AR after I’ve “upgraded” it’s profile from 10.5" to 14.5", which now isn’t properly aligned and shoots less than 1J. Might be more parts from KWA coming soon… 😅

  16. Oh. Perhaps I'm making some assumptions on general knowledge. On film sets, guns are actually pointed slightly off of actors to negate any armourer failings such as this scenario but mainly to avoid any small amount of debris from the blanks hitting actors. Then camera angles do the rest and make it seem like everything is lined up.

  17. You would probably have to look at some Bullpups as the motors aren't in the pistol grip. There is not much weight forward of the pistol grip either which will certainly help in your situation.

  18. Yeah, lots of productions use airsoft in place of blank firers for various reasons. Be it cost, safety etc. You can generally tell because it looks absolute shite. They often don't bother to simulate case ejection and muzzle flashes look like crap. Though it can be done fairly well if people know what they're doing. I seem to recall Stargate SG-1 looking pretty OK for the time. Imo, no dummy/airsoft guns will ever replace proper blank firing adapted guns on screen. They just don't have the presence. Imagine Heat shot with airsoft guns. It just wouldn't have the same impact. Anyway, regarding Alec Baldwin being a murderer, lots of rumours circulating it was an actual firearm with a live round. Quite what the fuck live rounds and non blank fire adapted firearms are doing on a film set, I don't know. I'm hearing lots of reports of staff walking out over safety concerns in general as well as firearms safety concerns from previous incidents on set. I gather some of these staff were replaced with people that were perhaps not qualified to replace who they did. Whatever happened, it's a big shit show and some people are going to be in a lot of trouble. Perhaps if Baldwin wasn't so rabidly anti gun, he might know the basics of firearms safety...I couldn't imagine pointing even a blank firer at someone I wasn't willing to injure. Though the memes coming out of this are quite entertaining. (At Baldwin's expense of course. Not the poor people he shot)

    Blank Firing Gun Kills

I fully agree that airsoft sites should only have airsoft toys at them. Even if you know what you've brought, the skip licker who thinks it's funny to pick it up and "pew" it at someone won't. I include metal pellet air guns in that, I've seen folk shooting them on airsoft ranges. In this case it seems like actual live rounds were loaded (why were there even any on site?) and they'd already had this happen on set, to big shrugs. https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/business/story/2021-10-22/alec-baldwin-rust-camera-crew-walked-off-set Somebody should be going to jail for that, either the armourer, the AD who said "cold gun", or Baldwin. I hope we'd agree with the basic principle that you should always assume that a gun (airsoft or otherwise) is loaded until you've personally verified otherwise. Even - and especially - if you're an anti-gun activist like Baldwin. That wasn't an "accident", it was negligence.

  26. Unfortunately I can totally agree with this , my sister is a functioning alcoholic but if you didn’t know you’d never guess it if you mete her . It’s quite scary how well she can function when she’s had more than enough booze to make an ‘ordinary’ person well pissed yet she seems fine BUT if you do watch her carefully you’ll see she makes mistakes with even the simplest of tasks .

  27. Anything that fires a projectile needs to be treated with the utmost respect, true 100%. I should imagine that most injuries occur due to egoism and/or lack of respect. Much harder to police. As someone who worked with addicts, I have arrived at the view that most interventions are due to and aimed at behaviour rather than cessation. I wouldn't take illegal narcotics if you paid me (read Druid's comments above!), but I bet that I spot high functioning addicts/users more often than you'd think. Some in pretty responsible positions.

  28. Milsurp boots are one of life's great bargains if you know what you are doing. I have odd sized feet, so need a half size and specific width. This means either custom made boots at £300-£400, or off the peg Lowa's at £200+ when they do a run of width sized boots. Width sized milsurp boots as low as £30 are a God send. They are also designed for some serious hard use and far better quality and design than most tacticool gear. I've spent the last week or so clambering up some seriously high peaks, going well into the snow line, and sometimes in pretty grotty weather. No problems from the old British assault boots and wool socks. Do you have a local surplus shop? Trying before you buy is a good idea. Once you know your exact size then using mail order is easy.

    LCT SVD teaser vid

It will be interesting to see what price they decided for this? The past build up for the lct svd, people on social media seem to be thinking £450-500 mark but I am personal thinking it will be more, possibly looking at a similar price to that of the Limited Special Edition lct type 3 AK47 £650.

  36. Raven R226. I'm just gonna stop hoping to stock nuprol guns, I cannot in good conscience sell this thing to someone when it can't hop a 0.2 out the box. Looks lovely externally, slide is nice and smooth, action is nice and smooth, but the hop is just... wafer thin as stock. Decided write this one off and buy it myself. Shimmed (read: put tape under) the hop arm until I can get something more permanent sorted out. At least it hops 0.25s now even with a drop in power. We'll see how it handles the field this weekend. On the other hand, Swiss arms adaptx holster, really, really happy with it. I didn't think a universal quick release holster was really doable but this is quite nice. And it's ambidextrous! I've fitted it to the R226 and my WE EU17 Gen 4, and it can fit both no worries. Takes some adjustment, some parts are a bit fiddly, but overall a fairly simple process. Again, field testing this weekend.
