  2. i finally managed to make it to RIFTs newest site this weekend, The Battery. as i knew it was going to be a CQB site, i decided my primary weapons for the day were going to be my new KWA Beretta M93r, my KWA GBB Skorpion and my John Wick hicappa and TM Lycoris Recoil pistols as my backups (alternating between primary and secondary throughout the day) but i took a couple of long guns such as my Tippmann in case they were needed, but ended up sticking with the short guns all day. i had purchased a bunch of mags for the m93 through RIFTs own shop, White Sphere Tactical, and arranged to pick them up on site... so once signed in it was off to collect the mags, bring kit into the indoor safezone. standard fare for chrono, but due to the CQB, ammo weight was limited to .28g. first game was team balancer and found that blue team was overly powerful, so as a lone wolf i got swapped onto red team with a handful of other players to balance the teams a little more. game modes through the day were all 30 min games with quick breaks in between for reloading, which wasnt an issue due to the relatively small size of the site. game modes included capturing ammo cans to HQ, moving a gas cylinder "bomb" to three capture points and capturing flag points around the site. TBH, not knowing the site, i was more focussed on just getting kills for the first half of the day, but i did help out with the objectives later in the day once i got more familiar with the site and my new guns. one thing i really need to look into is how to mount tracer units on the skorpion and M93, as these would DEFINATELY have helped in the indoor sections. i did have a bit of an oopsie moment (which i managed to turn to a win)... at one point a blue player was hiding behind some corrugated steel barricades at the bottom end of one of the yards, so i decided to charge the location, laying down fire with the m93 to keep the enemys head down as i crossed the open spaces. as i moved, the m93 gassed out (i think i reloaded the mag, but forgot to gas it.. oops..) so i quickly took the m93 in my left hand and drew my JW hicappa as i reached the barricade... where i hit a patch of mud, slipped over, fell into the barricade and as i slid past the edge of the barricade, managed to snap 2 shots off at the blue player, taking him out... after getting helped up, quickly checking my gear and fist bumping the blue player, i decided to call myself out to go and check my injuries and thoroughly inspect the guns and fortunately found the barrels were clear, so i was soon back out. and i was running a gopro on my helmet for the first time, so i might have caught my little fall on tape... in the process of downloading the footage as i type this message, so i should know in a few minutes.... EDIT i did indeed capture the incident on tape... https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/u1nsfc6n375ex1rm5ynb2/oopsie.mp4?rlkey=2rwbhjnlc7tm7ecp69fuvh75f&st=1sdak9fk&dl=0

  7. Well, yesterday at Red Alert was our 4th, and final, Battlesim in the Vukodlak war story line. The past three years Vukodlak forces have been victorious. Having played for Vukodlak in previous years, this year I decided to marshal which, as with many battlesims, meant playing as a civilian/quest giver. I spiced it up by playing as a pirate. I was giving out quests to find my lost parrot. There were 3 inflatable parrots hidden about the site, but I had drawn an eye patch on one, and in my quest spiel I mentioned that Polly only had one eye. If they brought back the parrot with the eye patch they got a reward. I also had a bottle of grog, which got hidden, and there was a reward if they brought me "alcohol". The main objective of the day was to find all the items needed to arm a rocket, and then launch it. The rocket is something I've been building recently, but kept off of social media so it would be a surprise for the players on the day. There were two nose cones, one for each team, a round one and a pointy one (pointy is scary). Other civilians had other quests. The drug dealers were selling bags of stuff, for in game currency. This could be handed in to the sheriffs for a reward, or bartered with other npcs. There was the Hobo wandering the site with his wheelbarrow full of junk, but underneath the junk was a laptop that contained the launch codes. Driving around in his pickup was the arms dealer. He would sell you weapons that you could plant on any unarmed civilians you may have shot, and thereby avoid a war crime. 😉 The Camels wanted water, mostly... Some civilians were mercs, that would fight for a team for short time, if paid well. At the end of the day Vukodlak were victorious AGAIN, despite some excellent play from the Calladian forces. It was a bloody marvellous day, that ended with both teams wearing massive grins and swapping stories over a beer. So roll on 2025, for a whole new story for our next battlesim! Unfortunately a lot of people had already gone home before we took the last photo after debrief.

  9. Hello airsoft friends! Are these good RIFs to buy to win at airsoftwars battle maps? The pistol has 1.3 jewels, just like a watch, and the advanced future riflegun has pure polymer bushings in its bearings so should run very smoothelely!

Don't do it... you obviously don't know what type/style of pew you like, try as many aeg's as you can first or you'll be spending a fortune to only regret the purchase & we'll/I'll end up offering you 60-70% what you paid when it ends up in the classifieds. If that's not the answer you want to hear go onto youtube and watch as many gbbr video's as you can. If you do buy a GBBR, get a Calico, CZ Scorpion, L85A2 or a G3 etc coz I don't have one of these yet.

  13. Saturday we had a full day private party booking, a video gaming community that has grown up around a youtube review channel, and get together to play airsoft once a year. They are online acquaintances, some of whom had never met in real life before. Some had their own kit some rented. I have to say, they were brilliant to marshal for. The mood all day was fantastic, there was not one single complaint about hit calling, in fact quite the opposite: In the last minute of one game a player grabbed the objective and made an heroic sprint. Afterwards i overheard an opfor player say: "I'm pretty sure I saw my shots bouncing off you" And I thought, uh oh, here we go. But he followed up with: "But sometimes when you're running like that you just don't feel it". Why aren't all airsofters like him these days? Sunday I managed to play, instead of marshaling for a change. One of my closest friends has been out of the game for months, and came back yesterday, so I was glad to be out there with him, and we had a great time. Ran my TM MWS for a few games, and my Secutor (well, the exterior is) DMR for a few. We got absolutely SPANKED by the red team, but had fun in the process. A couple of the MWS mags were gassing out on the first round, so I'll need to sort that out, but overall a great day. Photo title: "Oooh, shoots you sir!"

  16. After quite the hiatus, I stopped making excuses and got out there again to die for the Emperor at Area 66 yesterday, with my freshly painted and sanctified XR-5 doing lasgun duties. Looks great, shoots like an under-hopped, under-powered, over-weight piece of junk that required wild bursts of fire to hit anything. So, a pretty good facsimile then. Fun was had in the heat, but it was strictly a walking day. I binned off the costume and junk-gun at lunch and went out TAC-41 sniping in the afternoon with much more success. The out-of-the-box-plus-a-spring performance of those things is great, but I'd make a rubbish sniper - far too much chuckling and "Git rekt, scrub!" from the bushes. It was a decent day despite a big stag-do party being there, they were split up and generally played OK. Not enough marshals, but fortunately not much need for them. One interesting thing they did was to tag guns with a cable-tie, but not trim it until walk-on for the first game, which is a commendable attempt to catch chrono-dodgers and make pre-game chrono a bit more meaningful.

  17. Lambda Defence with SD kit, Marayama and Archwick GBB's. On Vorsk 6 gas and using .2g BB's we get 340 FPS on the Lambda, 320 on the Archwick and 315 on the Marayama. The Lambda is the softest shooting and could do with some beefier bolt return springs and it's a bit underwhelming to fire. If you are after quality and performance then get the Archwick as it's outstanding. I tried it with 0.3g's and it had no issues lifting them and the hop still had more life in it and I think it probably could do 0.36g BB's out the box. If the straight mag version is what you want, but on a budget, them Marayama are (or already have) releasing a straight mag version with the spare mags around £25 overseas which is about 1/2 the price of the Archwick mags but sadly I doubt they will be compatible between GBB's. Oh and the Lambda magwell is annoying as VFC and Raven mags can move forwards and backwards, sometimes releasing a little gas, which is a bit annoying. Some sticky backed foam inside the magwell will sort it.

  18. Oh myyy......😍 I haven't been following this, but I'm gonna go back and find details! Anyway... This isn't that exciting when it comes to gun pictures, but I'm a happy boy and had to share. Last year I gave a friend my cheapy Cyma SVD, for servicing and upgrading. Then life got in the way. I got a rotator cuff injury, he lost his driving licence (illness, not booze), and what with one thing and another he's had it ever since. On Sunday I got it back. Full steel rack piston, 110 spring, different piston head, new hop rubber, hop nub, new set of bushings for the gears, combat union hop. Its kicking .3s out around 1.4 to 1.5 joules. I'm on site tomorrow, to continue with our site overhaul, and I'll be giving her a real test for range. Now all I need is an SVD sling.

  19. Everyone, I am sure has heard of the Vortex warranty. Well, it's just awesome! I know it's only a little thing, but I lost my elevation turret cap in a game. Haven't thought about it until it's come time to sell the scope. Popped them an email and they're sending a replacement out the same day I spoke to them! Now that is good customer service. I've got Vortex on all my main rifles, for good reason 😄

  24. Also dressed up as SG1 on Saturday, but then because the Atlantis costume i ordered got stuck in customs, on the sunday i did an alt universe "what if?" Cosplay to represent what it could look like if the stargate was never sent to the US, and SG1 were British Commandos instead. Both outfits were complimented by some of my airsoft RIFs.... and before anyone makes a fuss, they were all disarmed and unloaded, I checked with the head of security and 2 of the con supervisors on the Friday, who all gave the OK after i explained exactly what i wanted to do and use them for, then checked in with security saturday and sunday to demonstrate they were safe and unloaded, and then made a concious effort to stay inside the venue and away from any window or door that faced outside of the hotel where the con was held. Unfortunately the same could not be said of a couple of other cosplayers, who aparrantly decided to leave the lobby of the hotel with their cosplay weapons on them and walk up the entrance road to a little compound containing a bunch of vendors in marquees... and got spotted by Joe public who phoned police and resulted in an armed unit arriving at the con, and said cosplayers being asked to leave by security after the armed response was stood down.... but as I stayed well out of sight I only heard about this through second-hand information and did not witness it directly. Also got complimented by head of security at the end of Sunday for being concious enough to check in with them each day, and thanked for being sensible where others had not been. But back to the con itself... Friday was pretty quiet, with not much going on, so I was able to mooch around the vendors in all areas (dressed in t-shirt and jeans) to get my spending out the way early. I bought a few screen used props, including a "one line schedule" for the very first episode that was signed by the late Don S Davies (General Hammond). Saturday turned into quite a shitshow in the autograph area. Queues were initially separated into day pass holders, who had to line up through a barrier maze like at airport security, while accessibility and VIP pass holders (like myself) lined up around the outside of them to get priority access... but then more day pass holders were let through ahead of VIP passes, people opened up barriers in the zig-zag to jump the line, and then there was a traffic jam where no one moved for almost an hour... byvwhichbtime some of the stars had to leave for other scheduled events such as photo ops and meet-and-greets, so many, many people were getting very angry at missing out.. and even some of the stars were getting pretty annoyed (in particular, i overheard David Hewlett aka Rodney McKay getting rather annoyed). Somehow I managed to get all but 4 autographs on my stargate posters on Saturday, but missed out on one of the stargate stage panel Q&A sessions. Have to take my hat off to Richard Dean Anderson though, he was signing late in the day, and made it clear to staff he was not leaving until everyone in the line waiting had got his autograph.... I heard he was still signing at 10pm... and then he did the same again on Sunday as they were beginning to dismantle the convention around him (other stars did similar things, but RDA went above and beyond in my view) At the end of the evening I hung around the after party, which included a set DJ'ed by Kristian Nairn who was also one of thebguests for "Our Flag Maens Death", another group that was being hosted by the convention. Other bonus points from Saturday.. 1. I sat down for the "ultimate stargate photo" with all the stars, sat between RDA and Jason Momoa... and both complimented me on my costume. And when I pointed out it was a last minute purchase as the original I had ordered got stained when I spilled bleach on it by accident, RDA said he still loved it. 2. I got a hug off Amanda Tapping (Samantha Carter).... a brief one, but a hug none the less 3. Due to the traffic jam in the autograph line, I got to have a brief and nerdy chat with Joe Flanigan (Col. John Sheppard) about WW2 fighter aircraft. He had initially mis-spoke and called the P90 I was carrying a P40, but then corrected and wondered aloud why he was thinking of the P40... and so our little chat began, but only for a couple of minutes before the line moved on 4. Brad wright (The shows creator) saw my TM P90 and joked how intimidating I looked, and how realistic it looked. After I told him it was an airsoft replica, I passed it to him to look at, and he fiddled with it for a moment and held it in the aim before handing it back to me and saying "very nice". By that point my brain was too fried from the heat, and I seriously regret not asking for a pic of him holding it... but such is life Sunday ran a whole lot better, as the staff had Rearranged the queuing barriers in the signing area so people had to line up for each table, split into two lines for day pass and VIPs at each table, and a staff member on each line controlling the flow, rather than Saturdays effort of "everyone starts with one star and then moves down the row of tables one by one..." but with onlyvone person trying to manage all the crowd at once. Managed to get the last few autographs, and also a photo op with Joe Flanigan and a meet-and-greet with David Nykl (Doctor Zelenka), before catching the massive stargate panel tonwrap up the day. Over the course of the event, I had many people asking me about the costume, particularly my airsoft weapons, and so I was happy to answer their questions and talk about airsoft, and I even had 3 people say they had never heard of airsoft before, but would be looking into trying it out if they had a local field. i also had several people ask for a picture and I even had one person doing a university PHD study want to interview me for part of his thesis about how roleplay in Cosplay and LARP can be "commodified or assist in exercising political awareness in fan spaces" and they had not considered airsoft, so would like to get my take on it from an airsoft, rather than a cosplay perspective. All in all, the positives outweighed the negatives, but I will be cautious about attending the basingstoke comic-con next year, especially if they get as many huge stars in one place at the same time, as it made for an extremely busy and sometimes chaotic event. Having trouble uploading photos at the moment... will try uploading again tomorrow after I finish night shift and am back at my computer...

  25. Let's see of this will work now.... Some pics of my loot... Two posters, which I then got autographed and authenticated. Now I just need to get them framed... Almost everyone signed in black, but had a laugh with David Hewlett who asked what colour I would like his autograph done in, and I said I would leave it up to him to choose... so he went with gold and joked that it was in character for Rodney. Some screen-used props with certificates of authenticity... Group photo from Saturday with all the cast and me in SG1 gear (and my Tokyo Marui P90, then solo photo with Joe Flanigan from Sunday when I was in my "what if" cosplay And finally some pics of me posing in front of the stargate props on Sunday in my "what if" outfit. Unfortunately I didn't gey a chance to pose on Saturday in my SG1 outfit due to crowds and the significant delays with the autograph lines, which I'm pretty annoyed about, but oh well.... Ah, we did meet briefly on the Friday, and I did look at the collector cards, and I was tempted. It's very possible I was the guy you thought... I was wearing a Sabaton t-shirt and was weighed down with several bags containing mead I had bought that day as I was heading back to the car. Lol. Luck you XD Yep... =P

  35. A logistical dilemma caused by the convergence of the last rehearsal before our 25th Birthday gig and the London Marathon means that I am spending tonight in a Premier Inn in Woking. However, every cloud has a silver lining, so this seemed like a good opportunity to spend the afternoon at Driver Wood, a site about which I have heard and read a lot but have never visited. So, this morning, in addition to my video mixer, projector, video loops etc, I loaded my airsoft gear into the car, including the lad's C7, which I had done some work on last Saturday evening as it seemed to have lost power. Arriving at Driver Wood was a bit of a culture shock; there were paintballers, kids' parties, airsoft beginners' sessions and about 60 airsofters. This actually seemed like a proper business! Checking in was straightforward; I got my wristband and I was in. I found a table, chatted to the players on the next table, one of whom admired the C7, and chrono'd the C7 (1.04J and great range). The safezone was well organised, clean and had WiFi! The only negative aspect was a number of signs stating that no food or drink could be brought in. I then sorted my own stuff out, remembering to ensure that barrel socks were in use in the safezone, chrono'd my rifle and pistol, and set off for balancing of teams, distribution of us afternoon arrivals to teams and a mercifully short but complete safety and rules brief. Immediately after this, we set out for the game zone, passing various areas full of kids having great fun shooting paint and BBs at each other. The first game of the afternoon involved collecting a downed pilot, getting them on to a stretcher and transporting them to one of the helicopters. Each side had a stretcher and, if the two players carrying it were killed, they had to drop it; the opposing team could then try to prevent them recovering it but could not steal it. However, if the pilot was on it, they could transfer him to their stretcher if it could be brought alongside. I teamed up with a few players who decided to try to work around into the enemy's left flank and rear; this went rather well until we encountered an enemy force who had decided to try to work around into our right flank and rear. This resulted in some great fights; I found a spot in a ditch under a bush from where I could control the convergence of two paths that the enemy were using; it was what WW2 U-Boat crews called a Happy Time; a target rich environment and a hidden Colin with a very accurate rifle. Ultimately, as for the U-Boat crews, the Happy Time ended and I was sunk. Regenning, I encountered the two chaps from the table next to mine and we fought our own little war against a group of enemy who were continuing to try to push into our team's tactical rear, holding them off until the end of the game, which our side won, getting the stretcher and pilot into the helicopter after a stand off. Hurrah! After a short break, we started the second game of the afternoon; a three point domination. The targets were the green tent, the six wheeler and one of the helicopters; whoever controlled each of them at every 10 minute interval got a point . I have no idea what happened at the six wheeler or the helicopter, as I was solely involved around the green tent, which the enemy grabbed at the start of the game. This was a really good action, with people flanking all over the place, hiding in bushes, and generally popping up where they were least expected. Despite us pushing hard, the enemy held the green tent for most of the game, with us only capturing it for the very last point. My first impressions of Driver Wood are positive, despite the signs about not bringing your own food and drink. The playing area reminded me somewhat of Battle Lakes, albeit without that site's bottlenecks and choke points. I will definitely be going back. After the game, I stopped off at Surplus Store UK in Crawley, with the possible intention of buying a JG T3 SAS. However, the size, or rather the lack of size, of its battery compartment, put me off. Armband watch: Bright green (I thought they were yellow!) and purple. Weapons used: SRC T-91 ASG Commander XP18 (CO2)
