This was the first time I've ever sprayed one of my collection, and it was a lot of fun! Supporters TheFull9 Posted May 6, 2020 Supporters Share Posted May 6, 2020 In brit service at least, there is no institutionally correct with the grip-pod, afaik. I'll admit I've not dug through every single pam and AESP but all I know after a couple of deployments running detached armouries and seeing hundreds and hundreds of rifles from all 3 services pass through I've seen those things in every single possible 6 o/clock pic spot and both ways around. Never been instructed on a 'correct' way, only ever been told to attach it wherever works best for the individual, never seen them issued with any rail attachments (it might happen, but it isn't the norm). The only place I've seen that was objectively bad was at the very rear with the button facing backwards such that the button was entirely blocked by the L85 trigger guard and the legs could not be deployed. I don't know if GPSI or the US mil have prescribed ways to mount the things, but if we do it most definitely isn't enforced. Usually the button's at the back and that's how I've always set mine, but plenty of people do deploy and use them the other way tbh.

Honestly Id be surprised if there was some sort of true regulation on them - seems like such an absurd thing to regulate. The only time it really matter is if you have the rail. I really only refer to that the side with the button is listed as the "back", while the side with the rail attachment location is labelled the "front". End of the day it doesnt really affect anything. Heres a GripPod with the rail attachment for reference. Only a handful of my many (20+ at least) GripPods has the rail attachment, as just about everything has rails of some sort nowadays.

Moderators Tackle Posted May 6, 2020 Moderators Share Posted May 6, 2020 With regards to "weapon regulations" etc, what's done to ensure that your personal weapons is exactly that, personal to you ?. by that I mean my personal weapon was an L1A1 SLR back in the day, obviously no rails etc, fixed iron sights & very rarely a fitment of a starlight scope for night ops, BUT something small that was done was the rear stock length was adjusted for optimum fit accordingly to size/arm length by way of spacer sets, now I don't know if this was done at company, battalion, or regiment level, or across all services, but I wondered if anything like this goes on now ?, obviously sights have to be zeroed but with picatinny rail systems most add on stuff can be altered in seconds according to your needs, by the user, but not necessarily in a way that improves marksmanship. I work with a lot of Tier 1 guys and various "specialist" units, and I know they get to do what they want. IDK about regular units however. By the time guys get to that level it'll be like teaching Nana to suck eggs lol, I'm just wondering how intense the system is nowadays to ensure man & machine work as one. As a young squaddie in the rgj, the emphasis on marksmanship was immense, including the tailoring your rifle. Obviously the quality of our servicemen (& women) is still top notch, maybe any serving players can comment on weapon personalisation & emphasis nowadays ? Probably varies from camp to camp let alone between services, but on a basic level the stuff you get issued on your gun has to stay on there, but you can move things around to wherever best fits. The SUSAT can be slid back and forward on its' rail in to 3 different positions and from what I've seen usually people get to pick wherever fits them best. The Elcan LDS obviously goes on pic rail so has many possible mounting spots. As mentioned the grip-pod that is issued along with the DD pic handguard can be moved wherever is comfortable. I'd prefer mine further out for example but with osprey on and lying prone I can't reach the thing unless it's pretty close in. I've seen infantry guys with their own magpul AFGs and RVGs amongst other picatinny attachments. Personally I have an aftermarket sling that's just made to look similar enough to the issued green one that people don't question it. If you look up recent pictures of army guys on deployment (i.e. within the last 3 years) you'll see lots of examples of small variances in configuring the A2 and A3. Lost all credibility when you referred to the SA80 as a gun... EDIT: My apologises, that was a really spikey response and totally not helpful. Assuming your serving, as the the points you make are all totally valid, just got a nibble from me reference the obvious! Tackle
Supporters TheFull9 Posted May 11, 2020 Supporters Share Posted May 11, 2020 By 'the SA80' do you mean the family of firearms that includes the L85? In work I call 'em guns, gats, bangsticks, shooters and a million and one other things since saying RIFLE ad nauseum when you're literally surrounded by the things gets super boring tbh. Again, apologies. Put it down to being isolated in the arse end of nowhere and spending to long working with the Arty. They get all excited about the difference between Guns and Rifles... And it's unfortunately rubbed off on me a little. TheFull9
Asomodai
Here is my new "Speedsoft" AK. It is not tacticool enough. Boom! Angled Aluminium Grip, Stubby Foregrip at the top for when the stock is folded and a new CYMA Rail cover. I think I need to get an even smaller foregrip though as the one I have on their just does not look right. Looking at this one for the moment. Side to side mag wobble on the Dytacs are known to be ridiculous. So had to velcro it up. Still wobbles, but does not make a noise anymore. Folded up.
