I have had more interesting usernames elsewhere. I was "Paddy" on Techbrigade, ASCUK, UKASC and Arnies, on account of having Irish Roots. As I got old and boring I just started using an abbreviated "real" name. I remember a load of guys signed up to ASCUK as a team and were "Wolf Squad Gunnner" "Wolf Squad Sniper" "Wolf Squad Leader" and then pmd the admins for name changes when the team broke up. I do remember the time HaVoC MaN got himself banned, and we weren't using validation on new users, so he immediately rejoined as Beakersuxcock...2 points

New gun acquired and will be taking it to AI500 at Anzio next month (which will be my first game since my heart surgery). Still waiting on the suppressor, but apparently should have that in 2 or 3 weeks time as Jason at Longbow is waiting for a shipment to get through customs and should have it soon. Setup is: - Silverback SRS 16" - WASP piston with medium weight - Rapax 2J spring - FAST hop unit and nub - Maple Leaf MR 60d bucking - PDI 6.08 420mm stainless steel barrel - Silverback open piston sear - Coke can mod - Vector Optics Paragon 3-15x50mm SFP scope w/ Vector Optics extra high 30mm rings - Magpul MS4 sling - Still waiting on the Silverback DTSS .308 suppressor Going to fine tune it on Sunday by setting the hop up properly and using some Rapax spring spacers to fine tune the power, but with the hop set probably more than I'll really need, it was chronoing consistently at 2.05J on .48s in my room when I chrono'd into a bag. Later down the line when I'm properly back into playing, I'm going to try using it slung on my back when I'm running around with my short MWS. Use the MWS as I'm moving about, pull out the SRS once I get into a good position. Weight isn't so much of a factor for me (it's definitely heavier than my VSR), what I really wanted was something short that isn't going to smack into trees and stuff, so hopefully this'll fit the bill for what I want to use it for. If not, it'll be a good bolt action for winter because my green gas m700s are a bit crap when it gets really cold.2 points -

Unless you line one or the other with something to absorb impacts, neither will stop you feeling it when you get shot in the head. Also - if you ever wear the baseball cap back to front I can GUARANTEE you, that you will get shot in the little D shaped gap where the adjuster is. Every. Damned. Time.2 points

Yes. 100% I use a copious amount of pyro and have been on the receiving end of plenty and I now pretty much always use active hearing protection after i've left airsoft fields with smashing headaches and/or ringing ears far too often to not advocate fields at least offering the disposable foam earplugs on hand for everyone who plays and wants them. There's almost zero downside to using it other than having to buy and set it up. People will debate on this but I will always say I can hear everything that's happening around me sooner than I would without but at the same time, you get tricked into thinking it's closer than it really is if that makes sense. Personally, I use the Earmor M20T in-ear hearing protection. I originally bought mine for £55 on ebay and it seems to still be the cheapest place to grab them. I've always found that the over-ear style hearing protection makes my ears/head sweat too much so the in-ear ones make much more sense (for me). I'd suggest going for the M20 as the '-T' variant are the bluetooth ones which have a red/blue flashing LED when not in range of a connected device. I've had to apply black tape over this light. The M20 doesn't have this light AFAIK but i'm not sure if there's any difference in the technology used in the device.1 point

I thought working on your own suit is part of the fun. I got just Sniper Bolero https://www.patrolbase.co.uk/invader-gear-sniper-bolero-head-and-shoulders-ghillie-suit got some raffia and started crafting. The Invader gear bolero is very sturdy, hides the head shape nicely and it is easy to add extra stuff to it. I got some leave strips and raffia from Novritsch for that. Might not be as cheap as AliExpress but was a lot more fun then just clicking on a link.1 point

Haha, I probably won't be bringing the cape and boonie setup that I usually run because I don't have a way to run both earpro and comms with my ghillie boonie (I can do one or the other, but not both ), so I'll probably just bring a cobra hood and a cap to AI500, but that's part of the reason I'm sniping; I'll be taking it pretty easy, just taking up overwatch positions either in buildings or covering buildings and leaving the CQB to my team mates. I'm good to start exercising again from Monday, so I'll be fine for AI500; I'll just still be on blood thinners until then and my local site is covered in brambles that just love to slice me to pieces so I'm not playing until I'm off the blood thinners next month, but I'm back to swimming from Monday so I'll be more than able to play at AI500 from a fitness perspective. Original plan was to do the MWS + SRS + pistol setup for AI500, but as it's going to be my first game back, I'm going lightweight so I'm just bringing two bolt actions and two pistols (one to use, one as a backup) and playing passive. I think it's the more sensible approach1 point -

Ta for that. You were beaten to it by someone on my Whatsapp. I was hoping for the 4 mag variant as it will probably fit my 7.62 mags. Also its missing the rubberised shoulder. I only saw the 4 mag variant in use until I saw this picture. So I have no idea what to go for now 😄 I would still prefer 4 Mag variant with rubberised shoulder if anyone can find that?1 point

My airsoft headgear journey has followed the Michael Fassbender "Perfection" meme, three different things until perfection was achieved. I prefer real head protection: Started with a Viper Tactical baseball cap, occasionally using a Jack Pike camo one, and both suffered with the same problems... too thin / fell off too easily / peak would catch on things / BB's magically find any gaps. I said real head protection: Then a good FMA ballistic helmet, a very large one that fitted my melon head. I was very happy, I could mount an ExFog, but then being sneaky came along and it didn't fit the bill (but has been passed to my son who happy with it). Perfection: Then onto a boonie for trying to pretend to be a bush or a clump of bracken (with added mesh etc. and my ExFog). But, ignoring the camo side of things, I found that it was "perfection" in that... it's light on my head / sits well with my Delta Mike / the fabric has some "give" rather than a restrictive helmet / it's so easy to store in my kit bag / it has a wire brim so I can mold it to by head (no BB gaps) / the material is thick enough to protect me but I will notice hits. I love my "UF PRO Striker Gen.2 Boonie" and need to buy another to craft ready for winter.1 point

It's been said above, but full flap (double) M4 pouches comfortably (and neatly) each take two MP5 mags side by side. E.g. the issued osprey double mag pouches that can be had for a few quid off ebay. That's between 6 and 8 mags on the front of your plate carrier dependant on the size of the carrier.1 point -

I also don't massively love the the Spiritus 4x SMG inserts, but they were made to fit the Mk3 and Mk4 and iirc the MPX/Scorpion version can only physically fit 4 plastic SMG mags in those older placards, once you take in to account the physical space that the elastic itself occupies. Whiskey Two Four do a 6x insert for SMG, there's probably others out there too (might be limited to metal mags though). Have to be careful on placard selection with those though, I've not tested for myself but that insert might be a tight fit in a Mk5. It'll probably be ok in the HSP and definitely works in the Hub since that's got some extra width Vs a Mk5.1 point -
Personally I recommend what lokkers has done there; or whatever equivalent fits in with your preferences and/or current kit. You can pick any modern placard and just get the mag inserts to fit your weapons; just be sure to get the right sized inserts (e.g. 762 generally means 762 NATO, not AK) and ensure they have the right velcro alignment/config (either hook on both sides, or hook on one side and loop on the other, depends which system you buy in to). The Spiritus Mk5 is a strong option since the modern Spiritus placards are fully loop lined and most of the inserts out there are covered in hook. There's also the Spiritus Mk4 for extra capacity, the Haley D3CR-M if you want extra pouches built in, or the F9 Ammo Hub (if I might be so bold as to self promote). Tons of other options out there which are also fully loop lined and also clones of most of them.1 point

Quick update, I fixed the AEP gearbox and cleaned the factory earwax grease out. I don't hold much appreciation for the engineer that designed the gearbox, as it was quite a nightmare to reassemble. With a fully charged 7.4v and barrel installed, I think it sounds rather nice for an AEP. A quick shooting test gave me an indication that it should give surprisingly decent range with 0.25 or 0.28 BBs. I suspect the soft foam "nub" is causing inconsistent hop to be applied, so I'll be modifying the arm to accept an omega or H-nub tomorrow. Hoping it's not an air-seal problem. Try placing the boonie drawstring at the back of your head, it still wont fall off and gets it out of the way. Also a small hole in the rim and feed an opened paperclip in, you can adjust the brim to suit !1 point

I've got a 50° flamingo rubber in mine, and i 3d printed a flat hop nub. The harder nubs appear to work well in these / mws for range. I was dialling mine in the other day but didn't have a lot of range and it still looked good (I'm running 0.32) i can try and run off a couple of the nubs if you want to try one. Can't comment on barrels I'm afraid as I'm not fussed about changing mine 😊 https://www.empireairsoft.co.uk/vsr-gbb-flamingo-bucking-50-degree.html1 point -

Sometimes its taken and I go with Jamsandwich4u, but its unusual enough that I still like to use it and it still gets the odd comment. Lol, we'll done, I've often thought about starting a similar thread when I've seen some fairly obscure usernames. Mine came from being a young squaddie in the early eighties, my surname is Dewberry, & was a big lad from a young age (6ft at 11), bigger than the recruits around me, & would get lumbered with the biggest gun, gimpy or bren usually. Around the same time police academy came out at the cinema, next thing I know one of the DS made the comparison between me & the films character Tackleberry, big guy with the biggest gun, & they stopped calling me Dewberry, Tackleberry was born👶1 point -
