Realised I had the parts to make something interesting. For your consideration: an alt-history Olive Drab AR-15 Dissipator build. Imagine the chopped short M16s from the Vietnam-era became standard issue all the way to the A4 variant. Then make it a lovely military-ish green. Recently a real steel Dissipator (that's an AR-15 with a 16 inch barrel and a full rifle-length gas system) was released for sale by Anderson Arms, and this video popped up on my YouTube feed. I really love the full-length-but-shorter look of a Dissipator, and I think sticking on an A2 handguard and a full stock makes it look a lot more military than the Magpul equivalents I had on it previously. What do you think?

  6. I had a similar battle trying to get a bog standard, no frills, OG metal and wood Cyma AK47 a few years back. I remember being on the phone asking a few retailers if they could source one, and all of them saying along the lines of; "What, no rails or anything? Isn't that boring?" No, no it's not. It's classic, you belt-fed throbber.

  7. Standard V2 AEG M4A1 (ideally properly Colt marked) from a high quality brand/in high end form. I know I know big yawn, but we seem to have hit a point of having a million different ARs on the market yet the most basic type is comparatively unusual to find at this point.

  8. I'm still using up my last bulk buy of Zero One Pro gas and regular Ultrair (beige can) but will be taking these to the range with me tomorrow. @SSPKali has now started an obsession with me about gas, so, along with the ASG Power Gas, I've also got Vorsk V6, V8 and V12 on order, and still have some Nuprol 2.0 and 3.0 kicking about. Being on leave this week with no plans after finishing my build earlier this week, I was looking for another little project, and this is it. Spreadsheet drawn up, MWS and GM mags all weighed on empty, and I'm almost ready to go. Oh, and as a precaution, I do have a few spare enhanced nozzle return springs should the gun shit itself under pressure ?

  9. GBBR semi-auto battle rifles. SAFN-49, AG-42, SKS and MAS 49/56, the lot. Real wood, real metal, rubber bayonets. Potentially a BB Trap shower type rifle grenade attachment with those.

  10. Anyone else like drawing concept art to get a general idea of what a build might look like? I recently made this one for my current build. This one is a full concept art but sometimes I just photoshop parts together. It's a good way to see if things fit. Edit: The quality dropped in the attached file, here is a higher resolution version and a closeup of the Torch and NGAL, which I now see says "DFA" instead of "FDA" https://i.imgur.com/1an3EeZ.png https://i.imgur.com/PS2tzVW.png

  13. I have to agree @RostokMcSpoons For an MWS compatible GBBR, this looks too good to be true. I'm glad we're getting the DE versions here (not a kidney shot at you Rostok, honest) as the T8 versions seem to have a few more issues from the limited research I've done. Also, T8 parts don't play nicely with anything other than T8 parts,so upgrading will be more limited, and on the quality front, T8 are no Guns Modify. It'd be nice to see a retailer send a review gun to @Bada Bing or Ollie Talks Airsoft, as they're basically the only YouTubers I follow that really understand GBB guns and aren't shills for manufacturers to hawk their products to the masses. I do hope that this brings more players to the GBBR space. It can only be good for the after-market parts (yes, we'll get some shit, but, you know, airsoft!) and more GBB players on the field would make for a more enjoyable experience for units like me to compete in ?

  14. Everything I've seen and read so far about this has impressed me, and as I can definitely see an M4 GBBR in my future collection. This overtakes the MWS as the likely candidate - because it's such a good value proposition. But... I have seen a video or two where the full-auto mag dumps aren't as good as the TM. Now I know from my experience with my '416 that they're not a thing done during actual skirmishing, but it'd be nice to understand if the apparent shortfall in ultimate 'at the limit' use is real or not, and how it'll affect cold-weather performance or fast semi-auto spamming. I'd also like to see some long-range testing, to see if that short barrel affects accuracy unduly... and also which gases can be used, and how they affect the joule output. Any likelihood Mr @Bada Bing will be purchasing and reviewing one? I fully trust his in-depth examinations of gas gats, and I'm sure it'd help many prospective purchasers enormously. (I can see MiddleAgedGamerUk has done an unboxing video, so he'll likely have a review up soon, but his test shooting tends to get done at rather short range, IIRC)

  25. I've only been hands on with the TM MWS and, echoing most thoughts above, the finish, feel and performance is tremendous. If you're not going to skirmish it though, you may be better looking elsewhere. You mention breaking the rifle down, and for that, the MWS internals don't tick the realism box. TM designed a performance-based proprietary system for the trigger box (the Zet system) which looks nothing like a real trigger group. I know GHK internals look more realistic, but haven't seen inside the VFC offerings. VFC externals are great and, if you go the HK416 route of M4-type gats, they are officially licensed, so trades are bob-on. I also understand VFC internals are way better than they were, so will be more than fine for a spot of backyard plinking or if you do decide to take it onto a game site. GHK however seem to be on a downward spiral in the QC department, but others can probably provide personal experience instead of me spreading rumours.

  27. Exactly why I wanted one... got an E&L AKM Essential recently, actually got 2 by mistake so taking one to POW tomorrow to see if someone wants it cheap, getting the right battery wasn't straightforward due to the sizing tho.

  33. As someone who’s owned a few different manufacturers GBB M4’s at one time or another over the years, for me Tokyo Marui is the one to go for. I’m very similar to you in that mine are collection pieces, with a few rounds put through them every now and again. Therefore, looks and feel are more important than performance and Tokyo Marui cannot be beaten. The Cerakote finish is spot on and it just feels right. Both weight and quality are top notch. Also, the performance is better than most. There’s also plenty of upgrades available. Personally I’d leave the internals alone, other than an Angry Gun heavy buffer and HAO steel bolt end to increase the felt recoil if you want more recoil. If it’s only going to be lightly used, the extra pressure from the heavy buffer and bolt end shouldn’t cause to much of a problem. I’ve had no problems with any of mine so far, (touch wood). There’s loads of external options as well. Rail upgrades and the like. As far as other manufacturers go: WE - Decent enough products, cheaper than TM, but if you want trademarks you’ll either have to buy from Asia and hope there’s no issues with customs, or buy a trademarked lower receiver and switch the blank lower out. VFC - Difficult to get hold of a VFC M4A1 these days although MK18’s, XM177’s and the 733 are available. But, it just doesn’t feel as nice as the TM. I love VFC stuff and their internal build quality is much better than it was, but I prefer a TM. GHK - If it’s a standard M4A1 you’re after, you’ll end up with one with Navy SEAL markings on the receiver instead of Colt trademarks. They now do the URG-I version and the MK18 which both have Colt trades, but, by all accounts, GHK’s quality control isn’t as good as it was. Golden Eagle - I’ve not had any experience with. I think they may have plastic receivers. I may be wrong, but I think that’s the case. Also, I don’t think they have trademarks. Double Eagle - I’ve got the Noveske N4 and it is nice. Comes with TM style internals. But, I don’t think they do an M4A1 and I’ve not had a good enough look over it to judge the quality of the internals. The externals look great though. For me, personally, if I’m planning a build, I’ll go for a TM if I know the parts I need are available. If you’re after a GBB that feels great out of the box, that you can just unbox and manipulate and be happy with, but also upgrade if you want, I think you can’t go wrong with the TM. (And no, I don’t work for TM. ?)

  34. If you put them on the inside you effectively get accurate side sighting. I had a red dot like this for a little while before getting it set up on top of my scope. It's not terrible if the sight can rest between some pouches, but you lose a lot of visibility to the side. It's a lot better if you need to shoot close range and have a scope with some zoom on, though not many people run 1j "DMRs" (though you should, it's a great playstyle).
