Today was a good one at Worthing. It was one of their skirmish+ days where they introduce a few filmsim elements into it and I think it was run very well. We had to arrive early as one of the guys was helping with the car park as we had 90 players in total booked in, which is a LOT for Worthing as it's not the largest site, so my friend was helping with the car park to stop it becoming a nasty mess as it usually does. I brought the KJW m40a5 (as usual) and the MWS as a backup just in case. There was rain forecast from 11am onwards, so I decided to take the m40a5 out, but if the scope was getting soaked I would come back, remove the LPVO from the MWS (it's set up as a recce rifle build) and just run it with the iron sights. I started the day by getting on the range nice and early, before it got packed, so I could comfortably set up both rifles. The m40a5 had a new scope, so that needed zeroing, and the MWS had a new scope setup that needed zeroing and a hop up that needed setting as I had recently installed an NPAS and a 510mm barrel, so I needed to make sure it was shooting down at 1J. Managed to get them both set up, took them through chrono and got tagged; with this many players they were tagging guns (which was good!). Got all set up, safety brief done, headed out to cause some disruption. The morning went well, with me playing a lot more aggressively than I usually do. I pushed up, taking an aggressive position watching the ridgeline at the top of the hill from their spawn, attemtping to cut off any cheeky flanking moves. With how quiet the m40a5 is, I was picking them off with them having no idea where the shots were coming from, which is always nice, and I brought the rangefinder out a few times to measure distances for shots, as some were creeping up to about 85 - 90m, and knowing exactly how far the shots were really helped me work out where I needed to aim the crosshair to adjust for wind and distance. Eventually got spotted because someone ran right up to the holly bush I had crawled under, so I had to take him out with the pistol and then transfer over to his friend who spotted me. Managed to get his head down with a few shots and then quickly crawled out of the position and ran off. The guy had no idea I had moved, so he peeked around again to look for me under the bush, but I had run about 30m off and had a clear shot on him now. Was a good exchange and really showed the importance of moving quickly once detected, as if I stayed and tried to take the fight I definitely would've lost. Moved back to another position as my team had all left the area and I didn't feel good being this far up with a bolt action, so I took a position behind a fallen tree. Continued to plink away, but the position was quickly overrun and I had to lie still next to the tree as the enemy was all around my position. Eventually one started shooting over the fallen tree, no idea I was there but it was only a matter of time so I quickly shot him, gave him a heart attack and then got traded by the half a dozen other players who were all around me. If I was in a full ghillie I probably would've remained still and just let them pass, but since I was in my hood and wearing a black t-shirt I knew it would only be a matter of time before getting spotted if I tried that. It was raining by this point, but I managed to keep my scope dry by obsessively keeping my rifle horizontal as it wasn't raining too hard. However, I had a massive scare as I walked back to respawn as the QD mounting point in the rear of the stock fell out. With the Model Works m40 stock being so rare, there was no way in hell I'd find replacement parts. Fortunately I found the parts that slipped out and will be threadlocking them in place this evening so it never happens again (as it's a screw that goes all the way through and holds them in place). Shortly after this was lunch, so we headed back to the safe zone. After lunch they split me and my friend onto different teams (sniper team too strong) as a bunch of people had called it quits in the (light) rain and headed home. We started with 45vs45, but by lunch it was 24vs40. After lunch the games definitely fizzled out though. With the newly rebalanced teams they didn't stay balanced for long as then a lot of our team headed home, leaving us at about 24vs15. Knowing who was on the other team, I took it upon myself to cover the rear, as I knew that some of them would sneak all the way around and nobody else was bothering to watch for it. I took one of them out as he came in from behind, clipping him with the pistol as he rushed before he could get anyone and then managed to hunt one of the ghillies down who had spent about an hour and a bit painstakingly sneaking around the trail of respawning players from our team. I know how rough it feels when that happens as I've been on the receiving end a few times, but I wasn't about to let him silently take out my team from behind, even if they might've deserved it with how little care they seemed to have for their own flanks Anyway, I continued my patrols on that side, before moving up to help defend as our team was getting pushed at a base we were meant to hold. I took one player out as he came up, seeing his friend had crossed over the path I started to reposition to take him out as well and... friendly fired. I get shot by about 4 of my own team. Thanks guys... Anyway, I head back to respawn and we've now lost that base as the guy who slipped across the path took all of them out (didn't even feel bad about that. It's karma!), so I crept my way back. I managed to take up a hidden position looking into the base, but didn't want to be detected so I waited for my targets to start shooting before I'd thread shots through the bushes to take them out. As I was doing this, another guy on our team had pushed from the other side and retaken half the base, so we now had them in a pincer and it didn't take long for the two of us to clear out the rest of the base. Excellent, we had contol again so I crawled out and started moving up and... shot in the back by the EXACT SAME GROUP WHO FRIENDLY FIRED ME THE FIRST TIME ?. I think I find it so annoying because I make sure to PID my targets before shooting and it's incredibly rare I do any friendly fire, so getting hit by the same people, despite being the only person in my kit setup on the entire site (black t-shirt and an uncrafted cobra hood) was rather irritating. Third time was the charm as I moved up yet again after being shot by my team. I managed to get into a position I like taking to defend that base and held it until the game ended, plinking a few targets along one of the flanking paths. Wasn't too much time left in the game anyway and I was about ready to pack up anyway. Definitely need to clean the m40a5, as the bolt wasn't acting as it should right at the end of the day, so I think some dirt got into it at some point. All in all it was a good day and it was well run with very little cheating observed my me, though I heard there were a few teflon players and some other players who didn't feel like walking all the way back to respawn, but they were dealt with by the marshalls. Managed to go the full day with the m40a5, despite the rain, as I kept the scope dry all day. However, the one take away I have from today is to just buy some flip up scope covers. During wet weather I think they'll be invaluable keeping my sniper rifle in the fight.2 points -

Prototype will be ready potentially Friday, but just gauging interest? Looking to do 10-15 of them, though will be keeping 3 back for personal use. Can either supply as clean bare metal or painted. Material will be steel. (I work at a sheet metal fabrication firm)1 point -

It's not really a case of how many or what cost. The UK needs to be seen to be building the rifles in the UK after being burned in the past with limited or removed support for a foreign product that wan't used in the way they wanted us to use it. A couple of examples would be Comms during the Falklands and Helicopters not having software support and being grounded for years. Can't have a rifle that you can't get spares parts for just because the seller doesn't like the war you are fighting. My main concern is we don't design it ourselves as we will just end up with another EM2 but in 6.8mm. Ideally we should grab a bunch of German scientists and build a rocket that will reach the moon...oops sorry, I meant hire a bunch of weapon design specialists from a country that actually builds and uses guns and then patent the design.1 point -

It's complete on 2 sides with walls being erected as and when they can, it has 2 levels but they're not safe to use yet (a marshall occasionally uses the upper level to... marshall). It's a huge site with bunkers, & cover all over the place, Checkout Players of War Airsoft on facebook for more site pics. Open on the inside at the moment, don't know if there are plans to build within the fort.1 point -

Honest, I was holding the fort up in one pic (very Health & Safety conscious in my old age), The dodgy night pic is from around 1997/98 long after I left the TA so playing soldiers with springer L85A1 even back then. I'd like to add a big thanks to the site owners, marshalls & other players for the fun & games, I don't get many Sunday's off but have enjoyed crawling through the mud every time..1 point -

Then I'll amend it to "give it lots of burst, into a tissue, until it's clear". Sure, the right thing to do is to strip it down, clean, lube very sparingly with silicon grease, re-shim and so on. But if you are down on power (and OP isn't) then it can (sometimes) provide a simple amelioration, if you do it sensibly. Granted, that's not a given for airsofters. With 0.2g? Sad that there's any woodland sites still doing that. Still, the consistency is good news. I find 0.28g is the sweet spot for price-vs-performance.1 point

Except that every penny we spend will leave our economy, and we'll always be an importer. Tooling up would have allowed us to become an exporter, at least in theory - although our recent track record isn't great. I'm sure the poor bloody infantry will be happier being issued a decent system that actually works rather than a great one that doesn't (bites tongue on Ajax rant).1 point

Something to consider also is that the American's will eventually force Nato to adopt the 6.8 round as they did with the 7.62 and them 5.56 round. This may be a few years away and will only happen if the US find that the 6.8 is all it is cracked up to be. If it does happen there will be a flood of countries and companies producing new rifles in 6.8 and the ability to manufacture the new round (as it's quite complex). This would be the ideal time for the UK to develop a new rifle however we don't know how to do that any more as no one is allowed a gun and even replicas firing 6mm bb's are frowned upon. The mostly likely outcome will be similar to the SLR and we will buy the rights to produce our own home built version of someone else's rifle. Probably best to stick to a known good rifle pattern until the new round starts making headway into Nato and might have been a driver for the KS-1 selection. The A2's in the armoury aren't a good option as they were procured to replace the worn out A1's and the A2's are now getting to the same point in their life. More telling is the lack of L85's being issued to the newly formed units and indicates that there is a push to remove the stanglehold the L85 seems to have over the Armed Forces. It's not the worst rifle in the world but it doesn't matter how much you upgrade it, you can't polish a turd. The amount of mangles A2 stamped steel receivers I seen on the armourers bench down in Helmand would give a good indication of just how cheap it really is.1 point -

In a nutshell - here are the arguments presented (heavily paraphrased): - not made in the UK - Wrong Calibre (they want 6.5 or 6.8mm) - Not modular enough to re-equip with .300 BLK BCGs and Barrels easily for sneaky sneaky work. - Direct Impingment = Runs too hot for sustained fire (apparently) - Direct Impingment = no good for general infantry as they cannot clean it properly (apparently) - Direct Impingment = crap suppressed performance with excessive gas to user's face (apparently) - Should be a piston gun. Doesn't matter that the US Military have been running these type of guns for that last 50+ years, and will be for decades to come - even with the M7 rollout (if that actually happens).1 point -
Shorter barrels are actually better for heavy BBs for AEGs because most AEGs have trouble with air volume (not enough air volume in the cylinder to fill the barrel). I have a Cyma mp5k that shoots out to plenty long distance (easily hits a target at 50m) and all it has is a new hop rubber and nub; my two long AEGs (SR-25 and M14, both Cyma) have full cylinders to make sure I have enough air volume to push down the 509mm and 500mm barrels respectively. If you haven't played in 3 years, I would assume that your issue is that you need a new hop rubber because your current one is either out dried out or just outdated as hop ups have come a long way in the past few years. I still remember when I came back to the hobby before covid everyone was talking about R-hops being the best thing in airsoft. Also this. I'm no good at AEG teching/maintenance beyond barrel and hop ups (I hate gearboxes...), but I'm a GBBR and gas BASR user anyway. Barrel length is *very* important in my area ?1 point

Yeah I would never visit a site again that is like that. Normally if you kindly suggest players that are the furthest back try moving up themselves they wind their necks in. If you suspect someone isn't taking a hit you can slowly ramp up how much you shoot them, rather than deciding "better shoot every player I see 30 times for the rest of the day" which I don't think anyone is saying anyway. You can operate on the assumption you just aren't hitting them or are hitting them somewhere they aren't noticing. It's fairly easy to use discretion here.1 point

Been to some fields where friendly fire doesn't count, or where friendly fire means the person shooting has to go respawn. And a site where friendly fire means both people involved have to respawn so the one person can apologize to the other, so it all depends on which site you go to, but it'll always be explained during the game day briefing (or just ask a marshal if you're unsure). I've never played at a field where ricochets count, but it's always mentioned that if you're unsure if it was a direct hit or ricochet, just take it. Spawn camping is annoying and generally frowned upon in my opinion, but most sites I play at have spawns thus far away from each other it's difficult to get to the enemy spawn (except one site I played at that had a massive field with 5 spawnpoints where it occasionally happened, but usually telling the attacker that he's at a spawn is enough for them to try his luck somewhere else.1 point -

WHAT A DAY! Red Alert's second Battlesim "LITE". Like a Battlesim day without camo/ammo/loadout restrictions. Military vehicles on the field, set objectives etc. At the start of the day I got a surprise when I was handed a marshall radio and told I was the on the field commander for Red team (Each team has a commander who stays at HQ and a second in command on the field). But... but, I'm in full ghillie with a bolt action! OH WELL! It was HUMID! So much so that before lunch I had already shed my ghillie and was roaming far more than I usually do in sniper mode, as I needed to relay objective updates, assign reinforcements etc. There were intel cards available for capture, dotted around, and at objective capture points intel boxes with bundles of cards. Intel cards had a face value of 1 or 2 seconds. You could return the cards to HQ at any time, and once you had a minimum of 20 seconds acrued you could then don a Purple High Vis, which took you out of normal play, and head into the Kill House. In the Kill House you used your accrued time to run the course of Attack Sense targets, getting a point for each succesful target taken out, using a stock G&G M4 issued by the Kill House Marshall. Your points gained added to your teams victory points. It was an EXCELLENT day all round. I didn't hear any complaints about hit taking, the atmosphere and team work were exceptional. A highlight was escorting the Feret armoured car (Google it) to collect intel boxes, with a gun emplacement atop the Feret. MAYHEM! Final scores for the day: Yellow team: 96 points My lovely, attractive, obedient, talented Red team: 274 points Quite a victory. Also, at the end of the day @Smiling-Dutchman was made a member of The Outcasts (Our small, select group of dickheadds that play BANG YOU'RE DEAD in the woods together regularly). Roughly £150 for a heatshield, £50 for the reciever. It's genuinely quite a complicated piece from a manufacturing perspective. It looks simple but it isn't. If I can do them cheaper, I will. But it'll be a one time batch of these. I do want a pulse rifle. I want a pair to fit to a pulse rifle I haven't even purchased and to a Spas 12 I've only got a stock for currently, but I have a sheriff heat shield which fits the marui and is made from mild steel, modified (very, very lightly) to fit the marui which is the reference. As it makes more sense to do a run of them using a whole sheet of steel hence producing a bunch.1 point -
