Provenance in pictures ?
Jedi_Master and 5 others reacted to Tackle for a topic
Hi all, regarding members putting a piece of paper showing their username & the current date within the pictures in their sales threads, I mistakenly thought this was already a rule, but rereading through the forum I note this is currently only a recommendation. Any way this could be made a permanent requirement please, I just feel that with the ever growing membership, many of whom only come here to take advantage of the high member count & just utilise the classifieds, it's only a matter of time before we get another run of scammers trying their luck. I also feel this should be applied to the appraisals section, as some threads there seem to be worded in such a way as to generate sales interest, with members often replying saying things like "first dibs please", again without the op displaying proof the items are in their possession. Its a small point but fairly crucial in ensuring provenance of items shown in pictures.6 points -

PayPal provides an almost escrow service acting as the middleman between two parties. Friends & family is purely for transferring an amount of money and receives no other PayPal services Standard payments with fees (deducted from the amount the recipient receives) have a level of dispute protection It’s as simple as that - you have no right to a comeback on a F&F payment ‘Send me £1 F&F’ should be translated into ‘send me an amount of money that puts £1 into my account’ If they won’t let you pay £1.34 to enable them to receive £1 after fees then that should tell you there’s a problem Even better if the seller takes into account fees and postage before creating a listing with the price3 points -

Delivery nightmares
Tactical Pith Helmet and 2 others reacted to Tackle for a topic
I had an issue last year with ebay/hermes, gear was showing on hermes tracking as delivered, but no pod or delivery picture. Seller literally went "shown as delivered, not our problem, go whistle for a refund or replacement", hermes wasn't much better initially with a robot system that went round in circles & choked every time it got to the non existent proof of delivery, initially ended up jumping on the local delivery guy, who then gave me his ops managers name, she was more help & established the item had not got past the senders depot, & maybe not even collected by hermes ?, so was it the sender pulling a fast one, possibly ?. Even tracking down the European ceo of hermes email got an agreement that they would now consider it lost, but still ebay dragged their heels settling the claim, & PayPal weren't much better as the pod crap automatically closed down any attempt at a claim. What a cluster fuck, & trying to get any of them to talk to each other was like herding cats, very stupid cats lol. Only way it was resolved was my inability to not quit (which I think they were hoping for), it was only a £30 transaction, so while I wasn't prepared to devote much of my time, every week or so I'd fire off a pre-pasted email or make them call me with a couple of button pushes & then send them off to chase each others tails lol.3 points -

As mentioned above I'd be inclined to split it out personally. List the MWS itself with a single fully working mag in the £400 region (I'd be inclined to sling in the currently non-functioning mag as a freebie). For the fully functional mags I'd be looking in the region of £40 a pop, but I'd hold fire listing those and give first refusal to the buyer of the MWS. Just negotiate a price you're both happy with there, any remaining mags can be listed at £40 a go, with a potential for discount if multiples are taken. As for the M16 parts I'd go for £60 for the stock, and £120 for the M5 front end. £160 if someone wants to take both together. And just a general note, I'd advise unloading the mags which look to have BBs in them still. Keep those springs fresh 👌2 points

SE Tour Review: RIFT The Ridge (Bedfordshire)
Dan Robinson and one other reacted to Cannonfodder for a topic
I've only played there once but definately enjoyed myself and would go back if it wasn't such a ball ache to get to. One aspect I really liked was that you have a good mix of short and long engagement ranges so you can be sneaky or pick people off (or at least try) from a distance. If it's a warm day make sure you take planty of water as the steep hills can be knackering2 points -

The added annoyance is that there is a UPS pick up point a mile away at a petrol station. In the good old TaiwanGun days, pre brexit, countless of their UPS deliveries were placed there while I was at work. I dont understand why suddenly UPS didnt deposit this one there too. When I got sent that by my partner once they got home I was convinced it would have been Evri or Yodel. Then again, beyond the order confirmation email, I was surprised that I got no correspondance from the shop or UPS in regards to it being dispatched etc.2 points -

I'd say that's the right attitude, I'm sure I'm not the only one who's liked the look of a gun and splashed the cash, only to find out it doesn't suit my play style. For example I prefer SMGs or carbines as I like to be sneaky and a long gun doesn't help when trying to get through thick bushes etc This. Most airsofters love to talk about and show off their kit, in fact it's probably harder to get them to shut up about it2 points -

Delivery nightmares
Tactical Pith Helmet and one other reacted to Davet for a topic
I’d say there’s two issues here really - first one’s the delivery being left on the doorstep, unfortunately, as others have said, post-Covid it’s a fact of life, factor that with the huge increase in online shopping and demand for delivery, drivers are on a tight schedule. The second, and perhaps more important, is the fact that it’s clearly a RIF sat on your doorstep - I’d say that’s bad practice by the seller and it should really be fully wrapped and not obvious. My two’penneth - I had a RIF delivered by UPS, wasn’t in to accept it so it went back to the depot and I arranged to collect from a local pickup point. The package was also fully wrapped, so if it had been left, it was just any other unidentifiable parcel. But I’m lucky, DPD, Hermes, etc, round our way are all pretty good and we know, by sight at least, the drivers to exchange pleasantries with.2 points -
I remember it used to be a few years back, before the new classifieds launched. It is nice to have as you always hear the horror stories, and many out there still are happy to pay friends and family...2 points

A man walks into a rooftop bar and takes a seat next to another guy. “What are you drinking?” he asks the guy. “Magic beer,” he says. “Oh, yeah? What’s so magical about it?” Then he shows him: He swigs some beer, dives off the roof, flies around the building, then finally returns to his seat with a triumphant smile. “Amazing!” the man says. “Lemme try some of that!” The man grabs the beer. He downs it, leaps off the roof —and plummets 15 stories to the ground. The bartender shakes his head. “You know, you’re a real jerk when you’re drunk, Superman.1 point

@dan The F mark is the official marking that it complies It must both be within limits and marked as compliant - just being within the limit isn’t good enough ………. A few years back people would just ignore the law and decide it didn’t apply to them, international paintball events would get run in Germany and players would just ignore the law or get an illiegal aftermarket F stamped onto the body Then became outraged the years when the police just sat waiting for people to turn up and impound their gear1 point -

Yeah it was a complete horror show. Remember there was a thread on Arnies with a chap that was going through the various problems. That particular individual was one who has made his own replicas from scratch. God help the average airsofter trying to get one running.1 point

I've done the same, member with the absolute highest rep, plus the value has to be miniscule, literally no more than a fiver-ish. End of the day, friends & family is intended to be that, someone paying a friend or family money owed, either repaying for something or loaning some money, even if I'd asked my sister to buy & mail me the latest Chiefs shirt (she's in KC/MO), I'd do it as goods & services, otherwise I lose out if it disappears. Which is why it makes absolutely no sense to entrust your money with a total stranger in the hope he will send you something, via any number of flawed delivery options, just to save what could be a couple of quid. 🤔 How much, & had it got lost what would your response be .?1 point

That's absolutely depend on that particular situation. I bought an HolyWarrior S1 from a forum member a week ago and because he has good reputation here I did F&F not even thinking about it twice. But in general I wouldn't pay for guns on prefired, airsofthub, usedairsoft etc.1 point

The problem is deeper than making 'complete' listings show as 'sold'. I don't want expired listings to show as 'sold' (which is what this would do). Many people dig through old advertisements and send messages to sellers looking to buy items in the hopes that they may still actually be available. I currently judge it as the lesser of two evils that we might find a sale for our listed items that we've not been able - or forgotten - to relist. Even many months after the fact there is a lot of potential for niche listings to find a buyer. I understand that this can be annoying for sellers who do stay on top of relisting their items. What would be required is the ability to show hidden, 'expired' listings and for users to easily mark their items as sold, withdrawn or otherwise even after they are 'expired' (this may already be possible). Additionally some kind of timer on 'expired' listings moving from simply marked 'expired' (perhaps for 7 days) to hidden by default (as mentioned).1 point

Hey everyone, Thanks for the welcome, yes my friend does have multiple weapons and has told me I can borrow some if I like. I've still opted for rental this time as I've invited my brother who will have to rent so we'll both go in the same. As for goggles etc I've been looking at the dye masks (very expensive) but seem to be pretty good with the anti fog. This was a problem I couldn't stand when paintballing!! As for boots etc I do lots of outdoor activities so I've got good gear like that combat pants/coats etc. I have been looking at different guns already and do really like the love of the Krytac range but until I try out different guns I may be wrong with the idea in my head of game styles I would like to play. I imagine this to be a lot different to paintballing.1 point -

Tactical Pith Helmet reacted to PopRocket123 for a topic
G&g are decent but they seem to be trying to push more into the premium price range for some reason with weird gimmicks. I totally forgot about Ares. I did work on my friend's honey badger. The suppressor was loctited on wonky, bending the shitty aluminium inner barrel, the bucking tore the first time he took it out and the motor had such weak magnets that it basically spun freely. The gears were ok at best and the piston was really cheap. The proprietary gearbox and FCU sucked and are notorious for cracking even in lower power builds. Secutor are literally just Ares marketed at twats and have all the same issues for a 20% price hike. I would personally never buy one, not even for cheap.1 point -

Eventually, arguing the toss all the way. And first you'd have to get a refund from JD based on UPS saying "We did so deliver it". It's not far off the point where a video doorbell of some sort is a necessity to not get nobbled by this sort of shenanigans.1 point -

Upgrading a cyma 48
Rogerborg reacted to RostokMcSpoons for a topic
There'll always be someone with more range, and a higher RoF. And if there's not that, it'll be one of them pesky sniper chappies dressed as a tree, or a pre-schooler hidden in a dark corner to zap you. But the main thing is, those are the words that always precede "I'll just open the gear box" which often ends in tears - or an ever-widening opening of the wallet until you're living in a cardboard box under a bridge... So unless you're struggling to shoot out to 40-45m (which will probably be fixable with a new hop rubber and nub, and maybe a new barrel), I'd honestly counsel you to concentrate on improving / changing your play-style so that range becomes a secondary issue. If you're static on the front line, trying to trade shots with a bunch of other guys there will always be a Long Ranger in there to spoil your fun, it's better to find a way to close the range on a flank or through smoke, or encourage some proper covering fire from your teammates so you cancel out that range advantage. It's easier said than done, I admit, but you give yourself more chance of making a "hero moment" of breaking a deadlock. I had mine at the last skirmish when I took advantage of a well-placed smoke grenade someone else had thrown to push forward 10 yards and take out the two guys who were completely holding down the rest of my team. (I'm still waiting for my medal, it must be coming) That's so much more satisfying than just having a gun that happens to shoot 2m further than your opponent.1 point -
