  4. Format shamelessly stolen from @Asomodai. EXTREMELY LENGTHY REVIEW. Site Name: Invicta Battlefield Black Site Contact Details: [email protected] Website Address: https://www.invictabattlefield.co.uk/cqb-site Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/Invictabattlefield Site Address: Hampstead Lane, ME18 6AD Hello all! I can't find a review of Invicta Battlefield's Black Site on AFUK, which is understandable as it's a relatively new site (only open since 08/12/21). @blobface and I played the Sunday game on 29/05/22. The Site: Black Site is a medium-size CQB site spread over three floors of a derelict building formerly occupied by ICI. It's literally 30 feet from Yalding train station. Providing a size comparison to other CQB sites isn't that easy, but I roughly estimate it at about two-fifths of the size of The Mall. The site itself has four floors - Alpha (the safe zone), Bravo, Charlie and Delta (not currently in play). Side Elevation The site is semi-auto only, with an energy limit of 350FPS (1.14J), and a maximum BB weight of 0.25g (313FPS equivalent). You may only carry a maximum of 300rds on your person. No sniper rifles, DMRs, grenade launchers, drum magazines, smoke grenades, or green lasers are permitted. Pyro use is limited to BFGs up to 9mm PAK/.380R, EG67s and Mk. Vs. I'd recommend bringing or buying a few grenades; dead players are not permitted to collect thrown grenades until the end of the game. The play area of the site is in fair condition - no rubbish, but there's a lot of dust and occasional dripping patches on ceilings. You must bring a torch; almost all of the building is in near-total darkness, with windows boarded up and interior lighting non-functional outside of stairwells and the safe zone. Good: Location: This is a readily accessible site for those travelling by train: the site's front door is quite literally 50' from Yalding station's exit. This is pretty convenient for London-based players, at a bit over an hour on the train from Charing Cross with one change. The site has a very large gravel car park available for those travelling by car. Site Layout: At present three floors - Alpha, which is the safe zone, and Bravo and Charlie, which are in play - are open. Both Bravo and Charlie are an interesting collection of medium-sized offices, corridors, and industrial spaces. Holes have been cut in some of the interior walls for access; some of these are pretty small so a hat or helmet is recommended. Larger spaces are broken up by barriers and furniture to provide hard cover. The entire play area is in almost complete darkness. I didn't see anyone with NV, and given how everyone's using a torch it may not be that advantageous, but if that's your bag every game here is a night game. Floor Plans Engagement distances are typically short - mostly 5-15m, depending on angles and your appetite for storming a room and eating a lot of BBs at bad-breath range. The respawn points are at the base of the stairwells, which is my only major complaint: descending and then ascending two flights of stairs every couple of minutes doesn't feel like much of a reward for pushing up. Since the stairwells themselves thankfully aren't in play I'd be happier with a respawn point on each floor and a minimum respawn group size or time. Marshalling: Really really good, possibly the best I've ever seen. There were loads of them, they were friendly and helpful, and they intervened frequently, e.g. to tell players that they had actually been killed by a grenade or BB. Safety: A good comprehensive brief with no unfunny jokes, and stringent chronographing of all guns with the site's BBs and marker zip ties. The chronograph is done with 0.20g BBs; it might be better to see it done with 0.25g, since that's the maximum weight and joule creep only goes one way. The BB weight limit initially felt a bit arbitrary, but having played the site the engagement distances are so short there would be no advantage to heavier rounds anyway. There was no attempt to enforce the (obviously unenforceable, all BBs look the same outside the bottle) weight limit and there was some muttering from particularly bruised players about whether or not everyone was sticking to it. Game Modes: The game modes were very simple - find the lighting pucks, switch them to your team's colour and defend them, find the lighting pucks in your team's colour and return them to base, etc. They weren't anything massively innovative - except for the light-up pucks, which are absolutely brilliant - but bluntly they didn't need to be; they worked well and players understood and played the objective. Playerbase: A pretty broad mix of players - a lot of multicam, a lot of more casual set-ups, some younger rentals - but no speedsofters. Players were pretty well-behaved, with nobody (that I saw) losing their cool, cheat calling, or bitching despite several players - including me - copping bleeding welts from the close range. There were a couple of groups of players who were aggressively pushing up and running to and from the safe zone, which always sets a good tone, and even though the day was apparently fully booked there were only a few times people pointlessly stacked up - probably a testament to how close the respawns were. There were a few situations where I felt hits weren't being called, and overkill was repeatedly mentioned by the marshals, but it was pretty minor overall. Turnaround Time: Fairly rapid, aided by the fact that the safe zone is readily accessible. You won't come back and find half your team chatting in the safe zone, either. Average: Value: £25.00 for an evening game (£35.00 including rental equipment) and £35.00 for a day game (£50.00 including rental equipment) is pretty reasonable for a non-woodsball site. It's almost exactly what the late, lamented Echelon Airsoft charged. Game Options: The site has evening games (17:30-22:30) on Wednesdays and day games (08:00-16:30) on Sundays. Site Shop: The site shop seemed to have what you'll need on the day: BBs, propellant, pyro, drinks and snacks. There looked to be a very limited selection of RIFs. Hot food can be pre-booked; some pretty alluring burgers were on offer. Unfortunately owing to very spotty mobile data coverage the entire site is cash only. UKARA Membership: Invicta are UKARA-registered and able to provide you with a UKARA-registered defence. Safe Zone: It's clean, well lit and right inside the front door. It opens straight into the ground floor; there's no massive hike to the safe zone between rounds. There's plenty of horizontal surfaces, but it was a bit tight inside with the site fully booked. It's really thoughtful to provide the floor plans (above) for people trying to figure out how to navigate the maze-like site; I wish more sites did this. Unfortunately (see below) there's no plug sockets and the bathroom situation is a bit dodgy. Bad: The major problems with the site aren't really anything to do with the way the site is run, but to do with how the building has been disconnected from the public utilities. Facilities: The disconnection from mains electricity means the site has very few or no working plug sockets - none readily available in the safe zone. It may be that the shop can charge batteries for you, but you'll be better off planning on being totally self-reliant. There are actual, plumbed-in toilets (ladies and gents), which seemed reasonably clean, but because the site has been disconnected from the water main - there's no sinks to wash your hands, just hand wipes. The urinals don't flush. If you want to use a toilet, you have to refill the cistern afterwards from big orange buckets of water. The toilets are definitely vastly, vastly better than a portaloo, but it is a bit off-putting that it is a physical impossibility for anyone in the safe zone to have properly washed their hands... Conclusion: Black Site is a great day's play. The site is fun with lots of repeat value (I think it would take several game days just to start remembering where the doors lead and which of the windows still have glass in them), Invicta run it very well, and the players make the most of both. When Invicta do such a great job running the site it feels churlish to complain about the facilities - presumably mostly beyond Invicta's control - but they are the only major downside. I'd wholeheartedly recommend Black Site to anyone that wants to play CQB in the dark and we'll certainly be back. Bullpup Watch: Tragically I think it was just my AUG. 5. As said in another thread, doing the sniper/dmr thing is more a state of mind than about the equipment you use (hop up has more effect on range than raw power), and staying still is the most effective camouflage. I would definitely start with a cyma AK or MP5 and see how you get on, this will at least give you the option of jumping balls-first into the action if you want. Another factor is that many sites won't let you use a sniper rifle or DMR with Minimum Engagement Distance unless you also have a pistol or other sidearm, so straight away you're looking at buying two guns and not one.

  6. I lolled, but there is a real consideration that comprehending a foreign language (or even English like the Baby Jesus spoke if you're a heathen) is a front-brain activity and can fall apart when the adrenaline is flowing. The gold standard of marshalling that I've seen was at the old Depot site where the marshals didn't tend to yell, they took people away from the action and had a few moments of silence first before explaining things calmly and slowly. Not universally, there were a few angry gingers, but the ones with a soul had clearly picked up on the correct technique from the excellent head marshal, and again I'll opine that time-served bouncers are a perfect fit.

  8. Shooter belt finally done with the arrival of the Kydex Customs BFG holder. That is a lot of kydex on one belt 😂 Happy with the placement where the left is clear for the rifle to dangle and I can dump an empty rifle mag and pick up a fresh one as my right hand moves back round. Pistol reloads I am less worried about as it is a back up and one of the pistol pouches usually has a speedloader in to top-off the MWS magazines during a game…love the gas efficiency.

  9. Can anyone show me theirs for inspiration? I've already got a Marui V10, which is a great looking piece but of course plastic (great for actually using, slightly less desirable as a collectors piece). Guarder are due to release an aluminium frame and slide for it, which should fill the gap between the stock plastic and their steel offering, which as well as being heavy is around £300 for just the slide and the same again for the frame. I nearly bought a VFC Kimber Ultra Carry but they're just a bit plain looking for my taste (that may change with some polishing of the slide and aftermarket grips). There's also Armorer Works version of the V10, which you can get with trademarks from Asia but not sure about the build quality (finish/rattle). So yeah, any ideas?

  10. Those are some nice looking guns. I also am thinking of getting a nice V10 build done sometime soon. Good news is Guarder seem to be revisiting some of the 1911 variants (govt / hicapa / v10) and creating new upgrade parts for them which is pretty nice. V10 slide & frame kit seem to be next on the agenda, along with a steel inner chassis which is a first for any manufacturer to make for 1911's P.S. There's some talk on other forums confirming that Guarder is planning to release a 1911 STEEL kit pretty soon as well. So Inokatsu will have a pretty decent competitor in terms of affordable steel 1911's -someone confirmed this with Guarder after they released the steel parts recently So hang tight! Cool stuff for the 1911's (incl. V10) should be coming pretty soon

  16. If I was going to push power limits on a KTW Winchester I'd be looking at Volante Airsoft's green gas conversion. It should allow a significant boost in power without putting extra stress on the gun.

  18. Sorry, no idea, it doesn't seem to be a gun that people tinker much with. Given the cost and the unknowns, I'd be very hesitant to put extra stress on the components, and would focus on the hop and barrel - again, unknowns. Actually, I'm seeing it quoted at 117m/s with 0.2g, or 1.36J, which at most sites is going to get it treated as a sniper with a MED, for little if any extra range over a well sorted 1.14J gun. I'd be tempted to drop it down to under 1.14J, to de-stress it and lose the MED. I'd do that with a chrono to hand, using the intended weight of BBs, and (depending on how long it take to disassemble and reassemble) by cutting one coil and re-flattening, then repeat as necessary.

  19. Using my detective skills, I'd say it's a KJ Works M4A1 GBBR... £400 brand new for the gun, so he's rather optimistically thinking 2 extra mags and a mystery-quality red dot make up for it being an over-priced second hand gnu. But I think we've seen worse here, haven't we?

  21. not recommended isn't strictly the whole story. it'll increase your rate of fire/cycle time (aka "trigger response") on a given setup, and for mostly stock guns it's an effective way of boosting the system without splashing out on aftermarket motors. the trigger contacts thing is an issue, but unless you're running a less common gun with proprietary trigger parts it's not so big a deal to have to change out a set of contacts if they burn out. generally speaking if you're building the gun (ie changing all the things) then you build to the battery you're using, which often means 7.4 when combined with typical motor/gear combos. the mosfets to avoid are the ones that only offer active breaking without any precocking functionality, as outside of some specific cases applying active brake to a build that doesn't need it (ie a sane and sensible build) can cause issues with the system stopping too quickly and locking up on semi-auto.

Unless you're fine-tuning the build with some incredible granularity (we're talking the "the only thing stock are the externals" type builds), I agree with @Adolf Hamster. PDI aren't worth the investment and ZCI are both fantastic and cheap. In terms of hop rubber I prefer the macaron over the MR rubber myself as I find it more consistent, plus the macaron contact patch has no issues with barrels. ZCI barrel, Maple Leaf 60 or 70 degree macaron and an omega nub is all you need

Used TM Thompson, originally bought in 2007 and has had light use over the years since, but has been packed away since 2019. Always performed well and no issues with the function of the gun itself, BUT: The inevitable design fault that always appears eventually - the bracket supporting the front handguard and outer barrel has cracked. There is some play in the front end and I would not recommend using a sling to avoid adding any weight to the bracket. This can be fixed either with a kit (that used to be available on WW2 forums), King Arms parts or welding if that's an option. I've tried to capture this in the photos as best I can but more are always available if needed. Otherwise, the gun is in excellent condition with light signs of use, scratches etc. as pictured. Includes 1 hi-cap mag (TM). FPS ~265 w/ .2s No swaps please, delivery by Parcelforce express48 on UK mainland (included in price). Paypment by Paypal required.

  27. Wow, that's harsh, and sad that they were more concerned about appearances and attitudes rather than reality. See previous kvetching about folk point-blanking with DMR-energy pistols without an eyebrow being raised. Were they equally as bovvered about DMR players spamming at 1.5-1.8J as fast as they could finger-blast the trigger, I wonder? I actually completely agree with this, and would always suggest getting one usable AEG first, playing with that, then taking it from there. And there's no reason - other than marshals' opinions about appearances - that you couldn't run (e.g.) a light plastic CYMA and a bolt action rifle. Treat the AEG as the primary, and the bolt action as a bit of situational fun.

  28. The ACRO itself popped up at a good price so it was a a very indulgent treat but these things seem to hold their value well so if the time came to move it on I don’t foresee a big knock . truth be told I never really left the collecting /tinkering/hoarding side of airsoft , just the playing but some old and new contacts are turning the thumbscrews so I may make a guest appearance at some point 🤪 it’s been a busy couple of years with a few curve balls but knife making is very much back on the menu very soon and thank you !

  31. Just to second this... most ptt's with kenwood connectors will work. For my opfor rig I've been using a retevis fist mic and a cheap D shape earpiece earpiece that plugs straight into it which work surprisingly well considering it costs about £18 or so off amazon. Link here and example earpiece here

  32. I run a Midland shoulder mic (model is MA-26LK) with a simple single ear plug routed through a shoulder strap either on my chest rigs or on my backpacks. Simple, cost effective (~€30) and doesn't involve bulky headsets that will only make you sweat more. EDIT: whatever you buy, go for Kenwood 2 pin connectors

  35. I mean as a sniper you're already limiting yourself as to what and how you can play, but without a *functional* sidearm or secondary you might miss out on whole game modes. Not to mention that if your main gun starts getting squiffy it will flat out ruin your whole day. For me a sidearm is genuinely a backup gun and not a prop; I've used a pistol in every game day so far. In the last game mode on sunday, 'Sniper ambush', one hedge monster got about 20 kills in 10 minutes with his mk23. Very much not a prop. And woodland can get quite dense at this time of year - at Reforger there are whole areas that two months ago could have been locked down by a couple of snipers (e.g coming down to the village from the right hand ridge, if you're familiar with the site) but now can be easily infiltrated, and those 30m arcs of fire are getting harder to find. I think according to the letter and spirit of the (site-dependent) rules you should probably take the hit and go respawn at that point. Let's face it, in the heat of the moment you're much more likely to shoot someone with the TAC at sub 30m if you don't have any other weapon options.

  39. as much as i'm a fan of the pdi barrels, you really need to have the rest of the system perfectly dialed in before it's going to be a noticeable difference compared to the likes of the ZCI, and the ZCI's are much cheaper.
    1 point
  40. depends on what you're getting the mosfet for. if it's just a basic unit for protecting contacts, then whilst any battery will eventually carbon them up the higher discharge stuff especially 11.1v li-po will drastically shorten the lifespan without a mosfet. if you're looking at more advanced units (warfet/ab++, titan etc) then the driving factor is additional functionality rather than strictly battery choice.
    1 point
  41. 7.4v yeah they don't need touching but the OP is talking about 11 1v with out a mosfet. You'll at least risk over spin in semi. Maybe damage trigger contacts.

  43. I have to say that I am in the minority of people that a drop leg actually works for (cyclist quads plus the arms of an orangutan on a fairly tall bloke) but even then mine only gets used to place the holster below webbing which won't really work for 99% of people anyway, but is occasionally used. It's a very specific use case I know, but I find that the safariland leg straps plus the plate the holster mounts to do keep it pretty stable for me. But then for my normal beltline that I run with my plate carrier, the same safariland holster goes on a mid ride, and that will always be my preference as the draw is so much nicer.

  44. Having tried a fair few, I picked up one of the Flimmuur/Brit Tac options recently and I think it's possibly the best one on the planet yet it's in the lower end of the pricey options. The Tegris/Tegris-type options are the way of the future and it's a real unicorn that such a product is actually made and easily obtainable in the UK, with more regular stock than Tactical-Kit can bring in r.e. American products.

  48. I have fitted one. Although I have not fitted the Marui red dot personally, the area does look the same once the slide is fitted. I did also get this from Kim at Volante during my purchase. "I recommend to use it with RMR mountable aluminium housing as original FNX can't mount RMR size sights." I would email Kim at Volante if you have any questions as he is absolutely brilliant to deal with and I always find him helpful. The slide itself went on with minimal fitting. Certainly well made with good tolerances. There is a lack of full markings on the right of the slide. Better that than the wrong markings I guess. Metal RMR cover and sights would have been a nice extra. Recoil impulse has improved. I can still empty a full mag, rapid firing with no adverse cool down effect which is good enough for me. The obvious comparison has to be made with the Cybergun/VFC version of course. I made some mods to mine which need to be taken in to account. My VFC versions have the same internal upgrades: Azimuth lightweight blowback housing and nozzle. (This improves gas efficiency at the expense of a small amount of recoil impulse as I found the standard set up started to suffer cool down effects by the end of the mag if the gun was rapid fired). Marui HOP rubber, I key and inner barrel. (Standard set up was terrible). Guns Modify 125% recoil spring (for Glock 17) which is just a bit weaker than standard but fitted in conjunction with the lighter blowback housing to help fight cooldown. Handling both brands shows a similar weight and feel. No extreme size differences to note. Firing them both side by side shows similar FPS with green gas. VFC has the edge on recoil. VFC has better trademarks. Marui HOP beats VFC hands down. Fantastic stock unit, not even on halfway and lifts .30s with ease. VFC has a few minor QC 'foibles', most of which can be dealt with. There are many other details but the bottom line is the Marui version is a better skirmish gun out of the box (or with the metal slide) but the VFC has the edge on details. Once modified it does bring them closer. Different people want different things out of a gun but I feel the perfect FNX would be a hybrid of both. I hope this helps 🙂

    THE TM MWS thread

On the note of the green gas mod I used an angle grinder as I had one to hand however being zinc you could use a junior hacksaw or a pipe cutter I just did it in the quickest way possible. a valve key is so cheap you should get one anyway makes maintaining all your mags a breeze. As long as you have a set of Allen keys (a necessity for pretty much every Airsofter) a valve key (I recommend buying one) some masking tape and two biros and whatever cutting device you choose (you can pick up a Jnr. Hacksaw for about £2) i took my fill valves with tubes out of the mags, then I taped a ring about 10mm above the actual fill valve (the inner brass tube seen in the picture) use any thin long item as a depth marker put it down the tube till you hit the valve and put a wrap of tape on that point then take it out and place it beside your tube then move that point towards the end of the tube 10mm and you’ll have a good compromise between gas storage and initial shot consistency. then use the pen to mark that point. That’s your cut line, before you cut remove the valve itself to stop any swarf and filings getting in there. Then cut, by using the tape it should leave less of a sharp edge and then just rebuild your valves and refit to the mags and jobs done. when filling with gas I keep filling till it can’t take anymore, it does mean you’re stood there awhile filling mags however I get about 3 mags on a decent weather day to a fill of gas. So it’s worth the extra 10-15 seconds.
