Now normally I’m definitely not a “guns done !” sort of player as I’m always want to change this’n’that with my guns , but after getting an ‘old school’ red dot from these very forums(very BIG shout out to @kistofurryfor it) I honestly can say I’m really happy with it now and can’t see anything I want different on it . Now that’s nice .5 points

Best fan goggle, Smith out of the wire vs ESS turbo fan
Tactical Pith Helmet and one other reacted to TheFull9 for a topic
I bought some of the Smiths a while back purely so I had a set with a battery pack that's easily relocatable, but I've owned a couple of pairs of ESS Turbofans for.. more years than I can remember. I rate kit the most if it basically vanishes while in use and I don't notice it and the ESS fall well in to that category. I've got plastic mask lower halves zip tied on, I put that combo on my face with the fans on the low setting and go about my game with no worries at all. Being the cheapest of the 3 I'd say go with the Revisions unless you want a specific colour or to move the power supply; but all great eye pro that I couldn't do this hobby without personally.2 points -

Tamiy and Mini-Tamiya can be fitted just with just cut-strip-and-crimping, no soldering required. I suspect that's one reason why they're still commonly used over Deans or XT-60. What's it for? Target plinking, or airsoft skirmishing? The Thomson would be skirmishable, although I'd want to get the energy a bit higher, and finding more magazines might be an issue at the moment. The Kar98 shell ejector is a target plinker only, it'd likely be great fun for that, but with 5 shots, easily lost, I wouldn't take it out on an airsoft field except for pose value. Any bolt action sniper is a poor choice as a first-or-only gun, as snipers are generally built, not bought, and you'll need a secondary as well for close range. See if you can find a fuse and check, replace, or bin it off. If the batteries have charge, you should be able to hear some sort of response from the motor, even if it's just complaining. Airsoft guns are also prone to locking up, where the spring is pulled almost all the way back but not released, then the motor lacks the startup torque to pull it the rest of the way. When motors stall out like that they pull a lot of power, so you may be able to feel the wires, grip, and/or battery heating up if you pull the trigger - this is also a good way to pop the fuse or burn things out, so I wouldn't recommend doing much of it. If it has locked up, you can (in an ideal wold) sort it with a freshly charged or higher voltage or C rated battery, or if not, have to disassemble it and manipulate the anti-reversal latch - I keep a bent kirby grip in my toolbox for this. Sorry, I have no idea about the disassembly procedure for that model, although YouTube might provide some hints. The unlocking should be something like this. The other way to unlock a gearbox, which will have Reddit gasping in horror, is to get it apart far enough to access the gearbox nozzle, then shove a long Allan key or screwdriver up it and push the piston back yourself far enough so that it completes the cycle, being aware that it will then eject the tool forcibly, and you should of course never, ever try this (I've done it a few times). The other possibility is simply a bad wiring connection somewhere, which you'll have to track-and-trace with your multimeter, starting at battery and motor ends and working towards the trigger. If you do have a (plastic) V3 style gearbox then all to the best as trigger contacts tend to be external rather than internal. Again, YouTube will provide, you're looking for "V3 gearbox trigger contacts" or similar. Sorry to be so long winded and vague, most airsoft gun issues are easy to fix, but take some time to diagnose, and are tricky to guess remotely without actually going hands on. If you're intending to stick with airsoft, you might want to view the CM.022 as a cheap way to learn some teching. Many of us have a project gun that we keep around just for tinkering and larks. Holy heck, I missed that. I thought the last exemptions for those were long since phased out.1 point

CYMA Mains Adaptors
Rogerborg reacted to JasonKerner for a topic
Hi All Thanks for the replies; it is a two-tone for a start... so thats all good. Half of it is blue. On the charger front, I've attached some pictures; you'll see the connectors - and also the larger 700mah battery that came with the gun, then the 'replacement' I got sent that still doesn't make the gun work.... which leads me to thinking is the charger. I bought a multimeter and the batteries show voltage... the charger doesn't when plugged in - but not sure if thats only because it outputs stuff when something is pulling on in it. I could solder a tamiya connector on both ends, locate a tamiya-style charger and do all of that... just 'should I'... is the question... I will most likely get my son a replacement - theres a couple from Patrolbase I was looking at either the CM033 Thomson AEG or the DoubleBell Kar98 spring rifle... Any other recommendations? Just annoying that you buy something... it stops working after 6 weeks with very little use and the retailer after a lot of pushing sent a battery that wasn't the same and then after that has basically given up. Very frustrating. Won't be using them ever again. With those photos if anyone has a charger they don't use anymore and are willing to part with it... let me know1 point -
Best way in the UK to purchase a neat tactical outfit?
Ebeneezer Goode reacted to ModernTimes for a topic
Good points and I appreciate the advice. I wasn't referring to having the kit be Instagram worthy in that way I just meant more in a sense that it looks good I just used that wording because the other poster mentioned it in that way. I should have put quotes around it to emphasize that though. I'm not interested in likes, in fact I don't post much on Instagram at all or any social media as I just don't have an interest in it. I just want to like the way my kit looks regardless of what anyone on the field thinks of it however my main point was that I don't want to go full practical and have a kit just full of pockets or like some cheap low quality gear that is only there for the purpose of storage and being accessible and looks hideous. Hell yeah dude. Black SWAT is sick as shit. I was considering it when I saw a picture of someone wearing it but I just like the look of the goggles and the ghillie cloak slightly more than just full black. Amen and I totally agree. As I mentioned to another poster perhaps saying "Instagram" look was a bit misleading as to what I meant. I just meant a look that looks good aesthetically to me. I don't use social media to that point where I would care. The only thing I care about is having a loadout that looks great and cool to me.1 point -

My Youtube channel is actually called "Allotment Adventure" which is about my allotment (which I dont have the time for anymore). I have been watching through your beginner airsoft series, it is really informative. I have the ESS ones. I also sweat like a glassblowers arse. One cold days, after I've been running about and then stop still for a bit I get a bit of fogging in the top of the bridge area but it clears pretty quickly once you start moving again. The only issue I have with mine is that the foam gasket on the inside that goes up against your face disintegrated and relacing it is nigh on impossible. Another one to consider is the Revision Desert Locust Fan Goggles https://www.tactical-kit.co.uk/revision-desert-locust-fan-goggle-essential-kit-15381-p.asp1 point

Best way in the UK to purchase a neat tactical outfit?
ModernTimes reacted to Badgerlicious for a topic
MTP is great this time of the year though, site depending. And it's... reasonable on some sites year round, especially if the foliage is lighter coloured. Webbing rigs and camo aren't made to look cool, it's made to be efficient in combat, and it looks cool because of what soldiers do with it. I am a believer in 'form follows function' i.e. make a practical, well made, efficient kit and it will look good.1 point -

Best way in the UK to purchase a neat tactical outfit?
ModernTimes reacted to Rogerborg for a topic
Unless you're really just using an airsoft site as a filming location, like Licking Mustard does. I wish folk like that would find a different venue or hobby, but they do exist. And I do have to point out that the most practical costume for a typical short skirmish game of pretend soldiers is joggers and a couple of hi-caps in your pockets. Rentals are the only ones doing it right.1 point -

It is, the Specna is very similar to the ZCI hop and works well. I'm amazed that anyone is still making geared hops at this point. That said, every time I have a go with Ex-Workmate Eddy's basic G&G CM16, I'm reminded just how good it is, even totally stock and completely neglected. I guess G&G keep making them that way because they work just fine.1 point -

As you say above, you can get lots of likes but putting together a smart loadout and still be comfortable and not hate your life as soon you stop standing in the safe zone and step on to the actual field, 100% doable. I just wouldn't recommend any emulating of guys who are doing full on balls-out cosplay for photoshoots if you do actually want something that's good looking but is also genuinely practical. I also do disagree with your sentiment that practicality and efficiency are mutually exclusive to be honest. The main thing I'd say is, if you put on a PC and helmet then a ghillie jacket with hood, you'll have covered up 80% of the PC and helmet anyway and you'll sweat your tittays off, not to mention being slow, uncomfortable and getting snagged by both foliage and structures - ergo you won't actually look cool. Oh and the helmet will potentially snag inside the ghillie hood too and restrict your head. Personally I own one of these but I'd only wear it with a chest rig, if I go for PC and helmet it'll probably be for indoors and hence no fake trees on me. Just some experience I've gained having spent a fuck ton of money on gear over the past 15 years, as I always say how you wanna spend your cash is up to you.1 point -

And I believe the combat machines still use a geared hop up, compared to the specna's rotary hop up, which is just a better design. Its a small thing, but if you want to do something simple like change a hop rubber, you will be thankful for the rotary hop unit.1 point -
Is the "Specna Arms SA-C25 - CORE PDW AEG" a good choice?
ModernTimes reacted to Rogerborg for a topic
Agreed, I don't see much reason to pay C25 prices. They're both polymer, I'm unclear if the C25 is significantly better. The only actual feature difference is the X-ASR mosfet, but that does nothing except trigger contact protection, and mine balks at aftermarket motors. Both are fine for length, anything more than that is just willy-waggling for airsoft use. And don't worry about the quoted FPS figures, those will be using Specna's stock M90 spring. Fine for CQB, just about enough for woodland. Drop in an M100 through the quick-change system and you're good to go. The G&G, hmm. It's a lot more than I'd want to pay for one, given how feature-poor it is. The sight may be functional, or a gimmick. That said, G&Gs do tend to shoot very nicely, and that's what actually matters, not the feature list. You probably won't regret it.1 point -

Question about propellant for GBB
Whengunswentpew reacted to Adolf Hamster for a topic
the "gas" in a gbb magazine is a mix of liquid and gas. when you fire the pressure drops, liquid portion starts boiling and the pressure raises back up, this is also why they tend to not like colder temperatures as the equilibrium pressure, and the rate of boiling will decrease. same reason why they don't like being fired quickly (where you're venting gas pressure faster than the boiling can top up) it's not perfect, but it approximately keeps the pressure the same (close enough for our purposes) as long as there's liquid left in the magazine. if your familiar with cheap gas lighters it's exactly the same principle (and you can even see the liquid portion decrease over time in the transparent ones). for hpa, this isn't the case, it's 100% gas, so to acheive a usable working volume it has to be compressed to much higher pressures then regulated down to the pressure you want to use. it's not really practical to build all this into a small enough package to fit inside a magazine hence using an external tank+regulator. there are systems out there, notably the daytonagun kits, that operate like a gbb only with the air feed going through the gun rather than the magazine so you run it with a standard hpa setup. afaik the WE p90 can also be made to work like that due to the way they worked around the top mounted magazine.1 point -
I was trying to buy smallest possible torch with integrated grip to use on pistols. I found one made by UTG but nowhere to buy anythere outside US. So I decided to make my own. The hardest part was to find smallest possible torch with instant on light and highest possible lumens. The one I got is a size of AA battery and has real output of 650 lumens. Not bad for such tiny EDC torch. Next step was easy with bit of help from thingiverse and my limited cad skills I manage to produce this it's tiny c.8x6cm!! tested on the game day and was better than expected perfect pistol torch with grip1 point
