Remember, you don't want to aim for the legal limits. Aim to get below site limits. But be aware that chrono readings do vary between machines so you might be reading under the limit on yours but it could be over on the site one. As proven by most TM guns, you don't need max fps to be effective.2 points

'Bolt action' implies typical airsoft snipers. However an aeg can also fire at 2.5 j as long as it can only fire once per trigger pull (no full auto) as can a GBBR again as long as it can only fire semi which covers DMRs which are typically aegs but capable of over 1.3j Your initial statement of 1.3 joules for anything capable of full or semi auto is incorrect, 1.3j only applies to full auto , my GBBRs have a bolt that loads the next projectile by moving and cocking the gun, but they are full auto capable so limited to 1.3j max. The Gas DMR I am building at the moment is internally the same but has a semi only selector so is ok up to the 2.5j although my local site limits DMRs to 1.9j.2 points

Thank you every for the warm welcome! I think I’m either going to try going to either The Trail or Red Alert. I already have Eye pro and gloves (Revision Wolfspider and mechanix) and a set of boots so I think other than rental stuff I’m all good to go.2 points

On legal specifics - no one cares unless an offence occurs or you come to the attention of the police for some other reason Possession of a RIF is not illegal, (possession in certain circumstances could be an offence - such as possession of land balaclava and a RIF in the bank) Under the VCRA the paint mattered at the point of sale ’wear’ would be some worn paint and it no longer covering >50% (Bearing in mind there appears to be a lot of two tone pistols with only the top coloured then they may not be VCRA compliant in the first place) A clean RIF is highly unlikely to be the result of wear - but I wouldn’t throw you in the dungeon for tidying up excessive wear For thread diversion ‘funny’ stories on motorbikes, I used to wear a full face helmet with flip visor open and ‘biker’ wrap sunglasses On a few occasions I would get stuck at a particular junction, it’s now replaced by the roundabout at the Stonehenge visitor centre, but it used to be part of the route used by long convoys of USAF transports either carrying something of interest or just a diversion/exercise. A police roadblock would appear and I’d be stuck for half an hour to an hour for a few parts of the road to be closed, the convoy to pass through and for them to have cleared far enough away Depending on what I had at the time I may have been on a ‘proper’ motorbike or on a bright orange Suzuki FZ50 with a granny basket on the front and Snoopy Red Baron stickers on the sides The basket typically contained a bottle of Polish pure spirt (no longer sold in civilized countries but can sometimes be found in home brew versions if you know the wrong people) I would then be sat waiting around with either the police or RMPs also waiting bored …. And looking at me & whatever I’m carrying One night the police decided to ‘observe’ my black wrap sunglasses and consider how effective they are in allowing me to see at night, and beginning to consider whether polish pure spirit could contribute to my night riding skills …… just as the barriers were being removed & I’m waved off2 points

Nimh to Lipo in AER & AEP - straight swap?
Tactical Pith Helmet reacted to Rogerborg for a topic
Should be fine in a CM.128. I run my CM.123 off of 1200mAh 7.4V stick lipo brutally shoehorned in and with a Deans connector replacing the standard contacts, but that was more just for the fun of it. A drop in replacement makes sense and I found even a tiny 7.4V lipo gave a far snappier trigger response than the stock NiMH. I'd stick to 7.4V for a very specific reason. CYMAs come with higher powered springs as stock, and the cheapest way for a seller to get them down to UK power levels is just to lop some (or actually a lot) of coils off. My CM.516 came shooting bang on 1J, but the spring had been cut down so much that it was barely long enough to return the piston fully. Not a problem with 7.4V, it shoots quite nicely. But when I dropped in an meaty 11.1V 2600mAh highish-C battery, I got significant overspin on semi, double-shooting on most trigger pulls. Unless you're sure that yours already has a full length M100 or heavier spring in it, I'd go with 7.4V. Capacity and even C rating won't matter that much with a stock CYMA, as the draw from the motor will be the limiting factor rather than supply from the battery.1 point -
Not an answer but a look at the real rifle which may point you in the right direction.1 point

Very true, I generally have my guns running on the low side and dont have any range issues. The DMR i'll be quite happy at anywhere around 1.7j which will give plenty of headroom. I was just making the point that legally it could run at 2.5j as it is only capable of semi auto fire .1 point

Best way in the UK to purchase a neat tactical outfit?
ModernTimes reacted to TheFull9 for a topic
eBay UK for cheap surplus MTP and DPM Flecktarn.co.uk for budget-to-mid range stuff that hits a nice value point Hueys.co.uk Tactical-kit.co.uk for more gucci stuff UKtactical.com is a steady bet British Tactical is great but takes a smidge more knowledge to understand and C2R fast are about to launch their site if you're feeling rich and want what the SAS use these days. The majority of the rest of the tactical gear available in the UK is clones imported from China and some is good for airsoft and some is hot garbage, you roll the dice.1 point -

Doesn't the 2.5 apply to anything capable of only 1 shot per trigger pull not just to bolt action ? otherwise all those DMR setups are in the poo1 point

Two tone guns and paint wear
Paul72 reacted to Ebeneezer Goode for a topic
To answer the OP... no. I'll admit to repainting my 2 tones following purchase. There, I said it. I'm a naughty boy and the UKARA Polis will be hammering doon the front door within the hour. The way I see it however, I'm not waving them in front of the neighbours on the street, I keep them hidden away indoors all the time, I do target practice in either the back garden or the garage (I've told the neighbours either side that I do airsoft and have replica firearms so as to make them aware and not not panic if they see me with something that looks like a gun), the only time they go beyond my property is on skirm days and even then they're well concealed away from noseyparkers so that nobody thinks I'm some radge on the loose with a shootah. Get dahn, Ernie! It's the filf! Many airsofters I know have done the same as me, nary an eyelid batted. 2 tone is for the benefit of purchase without valid defence. Strictly speaking, the VCRA does say its illegal to manufacture a RIF and painting over 2 tone with non 2 tone paint could be construed as breaking the law. However, my view is that there's bigger fish to fry and someone will only take notice if a much more serious offence is committed...1 point -

You won’t find Pencott in a surplus shop . as to what to wear if your field craft is up to scratch then quite frankly you can wear what ever color you want . A good 80% of the people you’ll come across on an open day haven’t a ‘Scooby do’ about it and the will literally walk right past a concealed player using even just the bare minimum of field craft skills !1 point -

What he said , I’m terrible at looking after my Batts , I’ve never set them for storage , they don’t get touch until the day before my next game day I alway put them on charge first then when it’s beeping full I THEN put them on to balance . Touch wood the only batteries I’ve had die on me what I’d say was prematurely are 9.9v LiFe I was using for a couple of yrs all the ‘normal’ LiPo’s have been fine .1 point -

yeah one of them would be enough thats true and i cant remember of the top of my head just did some digging online and found it sure it was £35. I was meant to have the 908 but they labelled all there 904a stock as 908b stock so got that sent to me and then didnt have the 908 in stock to swap so refunded me the difference in price and sent me a free speedloader. So i only have the buffer tube space for a battery in the 904a Yeah agreed for the sake of £15 give or take its not worth worrying about in my opinion and i can get a 18cmx2cm battery in the buffer tube of my 904A with it just sticking into the stock a little it but doesnt make a difference as i have the stock extended so doesnt interfere.1 point -
It's not the length so as the girth as the actress said to the bishop. Wiring can take up quite a bit of space in the buffer, so you're either looking at trying to stuff the battery and wiring in side by side, or coil the wiring down into the buffer (remembering that it has to be long enough to reach the end) and ram the battery down on top. All that said, I'ma go and do some experiments now, as those 16-18mm x 20mm 11.1Vs might actually go into my MP5K or down a buffer tube.1 point

Rogerborg reacted to Ebeneezer Goode for a topic
For tactical shirts and combat trousers, try local surplus store or amazon. You can make your own ghillie from camo netting and other materials, there's tutorials online. In terms of looking "organised and professional", you'll need to be more specific. What are you trying to achieve looks wise? Keep it practical, don't just spaff shedloads on fancy kit, it needs to be practical and comfortable. Really all you need is eyepro, a gnu and BBs if you want to break it down to basics... the rest is sort of for looks. Assuming you're at a woodland site, some sort of camo is a good idea. Brown, Khaki, OD or any camo pattern like DPM, woodland, MTP or the Jack Pyke style hunting/fishing pattern is great to make you blend in. Don't wear black as it stands out a mile...1 point -
Well, that's sent me off down a rabbit hole of yeahbuts. I think the pragmatic answer is no, of course not, because nobody will ever know or care. Legally, I have absolutely no idea how it would be interpreted. I mean, the IF hasn't just lost the paint itself, just sitting there. One one hand, it's been lost through the actions of the owner, so they modified it. But on the other hand, there was - probably - no intent, or mens rea. On the gripping hand, anyone who had deliberately removed paint could say "Yeah, it just wore off, legit." Like so much airsoft legislation, I doubt we'll ever know, unless you can somehow persuade the police and CPS to prosecute you. Fun story, I asked a copper chum to report me to the Fiscal for wearing a flip-front motorcycle helmet flipped up, to settle a spat over the statute and interpretation, but she didn't want to do the paperwork. Spoilsport. That's a £100 FPN tariff and no licence endorsement through, I'd hate to be a test case for anything toy-firearms related.1 point

I do think the new BTP camo works better now we're in the autumn, even the desert version would do a better job blending in with the golden leaves that are all over the ground and the low trees. Dark stuff was less effective and sticking out a bit more than usual yesterday... In the morning I was wearing a black camo UBACS style undershirt, and I wished I'd bought the multi-cam version instead. I definitely don't need stuff slowing me down. That would = stopped A massive shout-out to this chap, who did the WW2 load out properly... He even lit up a pipe during the rest/reload breaks for the full effect Tally-ho!1 point -
It's the airsofter's natural progression: At first he plays with nothing but the gun and a couple of mags because that's all he can afford. Then proceeds to buy all sorts of stuff, plate carriers, pouches, tons of mags, optics and what not. The ultimate stage is back to gun + a couple of mags because the rest of his gear just slows him down.1 point

Bloke goes in to a pub. Orders a beer and sits quietly drinking it. After a while he starts feeling peckish and notices the bar snacks and food menu. So he goes up to the bar, asks for a menu off the bar maid who hands him a menu. After reading the menu, Cheese rolls £1, Ham Rolls £1.50, Cheese and ham roll £2, sausage rolls £1 and hand shandy's £5... So the guy calls the bar maid over and he asks her, "Are you the person that give out the hand shandy's" and she replied "Why yes, I am" fluttering her eyes at the guy... He replies "Good... Wash your hands I want a cheese roll..."1 point

Yes. FA 5 (2A) criminalises both manufacture, and also possession with intent to sell - and it doesn't say to whom. https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1968/27/section/5 I've "kindly" let them know. Honest to God, cluelessness like this from airsoft professionals seems like a bigger threat to us than chavs and neds larking around with RIFs. If the very people who should be trusted to know and follow the specific exemption that we got aren't doing so, that's a strong argument for removing it.1 point
