  1. This video on it is very interesting, particularly the amp draw and energy efficiency parts. Spoliers, 5800 shots out of an 1000mah battery on the Warhead, vs 1000 on a Lonex A1...

  4. Been there today with 3 of my friends. Cons: The worst, there was no "chrono" in place, so every shot I took HURT. I could very well show up with an 8 joule gun and start destroying the place. The 2nd worst, the regulars. They cheated and got away with it. Rules changed mid game to suit them. Incident 1 : Shot a guy from 10m, he took 4 bbs to the shoulder, he crouched and then ran off into the bushes. Never seen again. Incident 2 : Snuck up behind a sniper, tapped him on the shoulder and said " knife kill ". He raises his hands up and says he surrenders. I lower my gun, he shoots me in the face from about 30cm. The bb shattered through my mask and I had to spit the fragments out. Please stay away from this place, there is a horror accident just waiting to happen. The people who play here have no concept of sportsmanship.

  5. I ran my 2 old 4.3's with PDI winter piston head, 9ball routes, lpe shims on propane for about 8 years. No broken slides although I did occasionally have to replace the odd nozzle. Both still running to this day as I sold them to a friend. I moved on from capas as I found the newer TM 15mm bbu models even better in the cold and more efficient.

  6. because people run them on green or propane which they are not designed to use. cheap cast monkey metal is more fragile than a good quality plastic. the AA is a monkey metal clone of a gun designed to be made of plastic. in the UK metal pistol will always perform worse than a plastic gun. A TM is a better built gun wich will give better performance on a lower powered gas than any metal clone running on propane.

  9. Backup and you don't want to upgrade? TM all the way, they are reliable and the "Loss" of a metal slide means it will work in all but the lowest temperatures the UK has to offer. The main issues with the AA stuff is the crap rubber seals they use in the pistol itself and especially the mags, a few people I know have replaced all the rubber stuff to prevent gassing out. Take the cost of those upgrades and you might as well of got a TM. (It will still perform poorer due to the metal slide and poorer tolerances in manufacture.) Despite owning lots of odd cheaper rifles (because there are no expensive versions of them), I believe in buy once, buy right. The AA might be fine for an upgrade platform, but that's not what you are looking for.

  11. Hey All, Been looking at starting a hobby which would make me a little more active than I currently am and Airsoft peaked my interest! Currently sitting at 275lb (and only 5"10) - I'm somewhat overweight! I used to have fairly good stamina for a fat-un, playing Badminton fairly often, where I would get out of breath but would able to keep up with the session/other much fitter plays! But this was pre-lockdown and now my stamina has bottomed out and don't last as long as I used to, though I hope this fixes itself fairly quickly once I start getting active again. I'm fairly shy and take some time to get comfortable in the environment I'm in when its unknown to me (unless there is beer involved... then im alright!). My main reservations are meeting/making friends with the locals and the impact im gonna have on others due to my lack of fitness. I've been reading/watching alot about Airsoft and do want to take that leap to give it a go, but would make it a whole lot easier if it was with a few people who are already into the hobby and would have the patience/banter to support me. So if anyone has any tips/tricks or fancies introducing me to Airsoft locally that would be awesome Thanks

    This advert is COMPLETED!

    • Used

Make: TM Gun/Model: AA12 Accessories: Gun, drum mag, low cap, hardcase and 11.1v lipo. Condition: used FPS: 315 on a 0.2g bb Splits/Swaps/Part Exchange: MWS and or mags Price/Payment: £200 including postage Pictures: The AA12 has had the mosfet replaced with a pico, meaning you can now use lipos and the spring was replaced with an eagle 6 m90. The motor was replaced with an infinity 30k neodynium motor which gives a great rate of fire and trigger response. The semi auto cut off leaver broke, so I removed it. You can still fire single shots with a quick pull of the trigger though if needed. Unfortunately the right hand side of the gearbox has cracked, price reduced to reflect this.

  13. i was talking generically, but having started on the kind of site who is the exact kind of place that spawned this thread, ie testing new starts on site .2's and using regulars weight when said regulars would happily chat away about how they were under the "fps limit" when using heavier ammo i do disagree. as a newcomer it very nearly put me off airsoft, going somewhere with admittedly no better chrono practice but a more honest playerbase had me thinking "holy **** this game isn't supposed to leave you with stinging welts every time?" granted that's not joule creep, just very lazy/ignorant chrono practice, but well within the purview of what could be achieved accidentally. the general point is that spicy hardware makes the hobby unappealing, both to new and experienced players. yes if we were to test all guns equally that would indeed be the case. however regardless of which method is chosen, what needs to happen is for marshalls to know which types of guns are susceptible to problems and give those specific players a bit more time and attention. i've lost track of the number of times i've chrono'd on heavier ammo only to get a "that's a bit low" remark, and the only time i've ever seen an hpa regulator locked was the time i locked my own regulator to show the site marshalls that it was a thing you could do. i agree as a practical matter that absolutely eliminating spicy hardware is an impossible task, at least for as long as airsoft is a game played by humans and chronographs only read projectile velocity, but that doesn't mean we should give up on it. yes, however the point i was trying to make was that we can't hope to catch a determined cheater, you know as well as i how easy it would be to bypass any of the methods be it using site ammo, using player weight or hell even a site that issued only its own guns. the point of asking player weight is it'll catch the people who are honest but ignorant, those who own joule creep susceptible guns but don't understand more than "use heavier ammo it goes further". which as has been pointed out is becoming more and more popular especially hpa.

  14. Yup, possession (in private) isn't an offence and needs no defence. The offences are manufacture, modification, sale or importation, not possession and not even purchase (for 18+). Gifting or loaning is fine. Possession of an imitation firearm (realistic or otherwise) in public, by anyone, is an offence. And a UKARA number (or any other scheme) isn't a defence to that. We all need a "reasonable excuse (the proof whereof lies with [the person in possession])", i.e. we're on our way to or from an insured airsoft skirmish site. Just watch that he doesn't decide to take it out to the wood to impress his mates, or (a real example from a Facebook fail thread) climbs up on the roof to take some pictures with it.

  15. i'm not saying i disagree with such a subjective assessment.......
    1 point
  16. Disagree, it means turning up when gates open (in this case i have seen gates at 7/7:30am) and players not circle jerking over every little thing. I have started taking two mags to crono, one empty and one loaded with playing weight. It does come down to a 'by site' approach, a well advertised crono process would still be at the mercy of players and an off day for the marshals.

  18. I have a TM USP and it's great. I originally went for a HK 45 but the trigger response on the USP is a bit quicker and as it was for Practical Pistol I went for that instead. My Son has a WE Hi-Capa, it's big and heavy, but he's happy with it.

  19. Nah not the m9 as I'm aware. As said fnx, hk45, USP, uspc, g19(both gen), xdm, m&p, newer Glock 17 models, px4, the little ported colt 1911 thingy. The fn57 ,but is one of the more delicate ones being one of the first to adopt the 15mm bbu.
    1 point
  20. i love the m9 but the safety/decocker is a weak point. wont stop the gun working but eventually one of the levers will stop working. i would highly recomend the hk45 or the FNX as the best TM performers. personal preference HK45 purely on aesthetics

  21. I have 5 TM pistols. I use green gas, not even close to a broken slide. It happens sometimes if people upgrade the gas bearing internals for more FPS, but again, you are not upgrading anything.

This topic is a bit old now but I’m in Hitchin so not far at all and often go on my own to AWA herts if you were still looking for a lift and were happy playing there. Car should be plenty big enough for any gear.

  24. One thing to consider is site insurance; when we had insurance, one of the conditions was: No guns that have a gun velocity of greater than 500 fps single shot (328 fps for risks situated in Northern Ireland), or 370 fps fully automatic (328 fps for risks situated in Northern Ireland) are to be used in any skirmish. Players may use their own modified guns provided that they comply with this. The Insured must chronograph the gun the first time the member plays at the site and after any modifications to ensure compliance; We talked to a number of companies before taking out insurance; that condition was common to all of them. Given that it is impossible to know if someone has modified a gun, the only way to conform to that is to chrono every gun at every game. Sites that do not chrono (hello, Ultimate Wargames) have probably invalidated their insurance, which has some interesting ramifications. As Tackle has stated, sites have a duty to ensure safety; that is why poor chrono practice and shit marshalling are unacceptable.

  25. as has already been mentioned, as a mechanism to catch a determined cheater there's holes in pretty much any method you care to name. the best we can hope for is to catch the honest but ignorant cases, the lazy cheaters and follow that up with decent in-game marshalling to weed out those who slip past. i can't say i agree with the whole "being XYZ over doesn't really hurt any more", if that's the case why not raise the limits? why have limits at all? it's all well and good to play the manly man who doesn't feel pain on the internet, but remember this hobby is supposed to be fun, and not everyone thinks pain is fun, and that is not a character flaw. after all, if the energy of a hit doesn't matter why play airsoft instead of paintball?

  26. @Rogerborg I play at 2 sites (same operator) who don't do a pre game chrono. He trusts his players to be aware of their weapons. There are always random in game tests but I'm yet to see anyone over and get tugged out mid game.
    1 point
  27. This, basically. It will never be solved without unrealistic methods. What joule testing will do is catch the stupid cheater, and inform the ignorant that their gun is hot. It's £60 for a chrono that can program bb weights + £200 for a quality chrono like a skan to check against, shouldn't be a huge burden a business. There's not much excuse to not test in joules these days.

  28. A bit of a tm binge for me: NGRS URGI PTS EPM X6 Magpul M Lok handstop TM Detonics .45 I must admit i fall into the finding NGRS "recoil" gimmicky faction but i cannot deny its out of the box performance! The two things that i am surprised/disappointed by are the lack of guiselle markings on the rail system and the lack of resistance on the bolt release. The Detonics is actually surprisingly good for the first few shots given its diminutive barrel length but after the first 5/6 rounds that quickly drops off due to the tiny magazines miniscule gas capacity but its good fun none the less and lets face it this isnt a RIF that you purchase for its effectiveness in a skirmish. These are my first modern TM purchases and i must say I'm impressed, they perform excellently out of the box and feel great in the hand. The plastics are excellent and nothing like the cheap rattly plastics of old.

  29. Amen brother, I only use semi (although the vector you just sold me, its 2 shot burst is gonna get some use 😁), once played a woodland site that was running semi only that day, the layout of the site was pretty bland, nowt special, but well run & the semi rule was a breath of fresh air, prob one of the best days I'd had in years. That aside, the only site I've visited that maintained its stringent checking/marking of guns was the mall (under Luke?), unfortunately cheats will cheat, fact of life, so unless ALL sites step up their game, nothings gonna change 😕 And before anyone says its the players responsibility etc, BOLLOCKS, we all pay for a service, gameplay, use of facilities, & most of all client safety, are what we pay for & what organisers are morally & legally obliged to do their utmost to provide. No excuses, why is it some sites can do it consistently & others fail miserably, the only answer is lazyness & poor management.

  30. True, but the same gun that's over on joules and FPS running 0.46's, can also be under limit when measuring just FPS and ignoring joules on 0.2's, like we know some sites do. I guess it's entirely up to the individual, but I know that the toy guns I field are within the required joule limits and I'm happy enough to know that if someone got hurt from me shooting them, it'll be more down to bad luck than me being a bell end. It's a game of honour at the end of the day with regards to more than just hit taking.

  32. Because the new wave of Airsofters are entitled sissy girly boys. This is why more and more sites run semi only in cqb. Because of players QQ’ing, that they got lit up. So sad. bunch of soft sooks! man up or put on a full face and body armour.

  34. Or go the other route. Go heavy, loaded plate carrier, belt line, helmet, back pack etc. Rock a support gun with extra ammo. Under your winter BDU's, wrap your entire body in clingfilm and really sweat out those calories.

  36. No one is going to care if you are husky at an Airsoft game. Yes, you might get a few comments, but that's going to be the same in pretty much any situation you will find yourself in. Nothing can be done about that and needs to be risen above. As long as you get stuck in and take your hits, you will find new friends. Simple as that really. Side note, most of us are rocking dad bods anyway. We aren't all chizzled action heroes

  37. Welcome to the forum and to a hobby that will occupy a lot of your thoughts and loads of your bank balance. As others have said, airsofters are generally a very welcoming and friendly bunch. Everyone has been the noob at some point, and even now going to a new site can bring back that same feeling. The main thing to remember is that everyone there has a common interest, so you've got a natural start point to strike up a conversation. Airsofters also love showing off their gear and most will happily pass on their experiences, tips and advice to make sure you enjoy your day and want to come back. As for fitness/experience, don't worry about it. Play your own game until you're comfortable and confident enough to step things up. Additional cardio exercises will help as you progress, and, because there's a lot of crouching and ducking behind objects, get some stretches and leg exercises in. Yoga is awesome for easing the effects of Elvis leg the day after a game, especially for those of us built more for comfort than for speed. Above all, have fun. Keep jumping into the forum as there is loads of helpful advice here, and don't be afraid to ask questions.

  38. This is pretty common, but it's a very welcoming environment. We had a thread on this a while back with a really great post covering what to expect in some detail, which can help with social anxiety. So many hugs in that thread. Your fitness / fatness level is neither here nor there. If you can walk, you can play. Heck, folk play in wheelchairs. What I would note is that a couple of hours of actual action every fortnight isn't really going to do much for your health, but it will give you something to train for if you're that way inclined.
