    Sniper rang? Really!

That FPS is far too low, especially considered the barrel length and the whacking great spring you have in there. Do you have an air leak? Cock the bolt , stick your thumb over the end of the inner barrel and fire, does the air stay in the cylinder or does it leak out? You should be hitting out 100 metres with that setup. (Though that's with an M170 which if working properly will be too hot for any UK field) You should be getting about 80 metres with an M145/M150 which would be UK legal.

  2. Hey All, Been looking at starting a hobby which would make me a little more active than I currently am and Airsoft peaked my interest! Currently sitting at 275lb (and only 5"10) - I'm somewhat overweight! I used to have fairly good stamina for a fat-un, playing Badminton fairly often, where I would get out of breath but would able to keep up with the session/other much fitter plays! But this was pre-lockdown and now my stamina has bottomed out and don't last as long as I used to, though I hope this fixes itself fairly quickly once I start getting active again. I'm fairly shy and take some time to get comfortable in the environment I'm in when its unknown to me (unless there is beer involved... then im alright!). My main reservations are meeting/making friends with the locals and the impact im gonna have on others due to my lack of fitness. I've been reading/watching alot about Airsoft and do want to take that leap to give it a go, but would make it a whole lot easier if it was with a few people who are already into the hobby and would have the patience/banter to support me. So if anyone has any tips/tricks or fancies introducing me to Airsoft locally that would be awesome Thanks

  4. Not heard of any incidents in airsoft but there are many cases of Li-Po's in other devices catching fire from phones to 'hover' boards. Sometimes while charging and sometimes just being used normally. I've set one off by hammering a nail into a puffy battery to kill it before throwing away. It did actually explode but I think that will only happen with such extreme structural damage. ie shorting all layers at the same time. In most cases its a rather violent chemical fire that builds in intensity as the battery is consumed. It may be very rare for airsoft sized batteries but its not worth taking any risks with something that could end so badly. I use a baking tray because I don't like the idea of a potential build-up of gases in a bag if something goes wrong. My desk is near the charging area so keep an eye on things when charging and have a powder fire extinguisher next to me.

  5. They show massive ranges because sniper YouTubers tend to be selling a story rather than documenting reality. That's why they have no problem with adding fake hit makers and producing "OMG CHEETAR" clickbait. That said, your Well is definitely underperforming, and I'd agree that the air seal is stuffed. You don't want to be running it on an M170, it'll be doing your sears no favours.

  6. Very true. You don't need to spend a lot to have fun. I'm very happy with the performance of my various JG and CYMA models. BUT Once you try a recoil... 😁

  7. Just noted a question posted up about lipo safety after a player had left his batteries near a heat source and was naturally concerned about their condition . Which got me thinking about the accepted ‘danger’ of LiPo batteries and the fact in the however many years I’ve been using them I’ve only ever seen one ‘catastrophic’ event occur involving them , and that was when a player lost his footing running across a slime coated rickety bridge , imbedded the barrel of his M14 in to the deck and catapulted himself through the air on the butt end which bent the gun well out of shape which THEN caused the gun to start making hissing and sparking noises and produce copious amounts of acrid smoke and then proceed to consume its self .🤦‍♂️ So what I’m asking is how many of the members on here can actually relate a personal story of them selves or witnessed by themselves (not a “oh my friends/brothers/neighbors/sisters/boyfriends/cousins dog walkers son had his arm blown off by a LiPo battery exploding !” story)of the dangerous failure of a LiPo batterie ? Just curious really . 👍

FPs ok - joules too hot?

Hi chaps, A new experience for me today. I played at my usual site using my usual .25s and the same gun I’ve always used there and which has passed chrono fine before. I had, to be fair, just changed to a Maxx hop unit and maple leaf bucking. Today at chrono it was shooting 320-330 fps - but 1.27-1.3 Joules which was over limit. We tried with several chronographs and got the same result. field limit is 1.14J for Joules and (in all honesty) this was the first time I was aware that they measure J and FPS. to be fair they let me play locked on semi (have a Titan so that’s no issue really) but this is a new one one me. I wasn’t aware you could have FPS quite that way under the limit (even on .25s) but still be too hot on the Joules. any idea how I can remedy?

  9. I'm looking at attending England vs Scotland and just have a few questions about their events... Sleeping arangements; when are you going to be required to sleep in the field mid game and when will their be a designated sleeping area? When are you going to have to carry all of your kit on you? And where will it be when you don't? This would be my first big event so I know next to nothing about how it'll be run and in my opinion the details given on the website aren't too newbie friendly and seem to be aimed at someone that has done that exact event before. What tips and advice would you give regarding the kit and generally playing at the event? TIA

  10. Sorry to hear about your awful experience, and thanks for sharing. I currently charge in a cheapo bag while supervising, and with an eye on the back door and a powder extinguisher (which will likely do sod all to a lithium fire). But I hereby commit to upgrading to an Explosion Containment Pie Dish.

  11. I just wore my DPM S95 combat shirt and trousers that was quite warm enough thank you very much. I know exactly what you mean about the sweat 😔😋 I might buy a pair of MTP trousers and base layer long sleeve base layer, and then a combat smock for when the temperature actually drops... Finding Molle kit to go with my current camo is quite hard.

  12. It was a great day for sure. I really enjoyed it too, despite being on the losing team and even though I basically just held two positions through the whole day. I was covering a flanking route through the whole morning (path by the field that heads to Paradise) and then covering another flanking route for the whole afternoon after lunch (ferns on the border of dark woods, near to #8 tree). I wasn't really feeling the VSR though, so next game day I'll be bringing the m21 along again. MED comes up way too often and I'm rarely making those 70m+ shots that my VSR can do with its 2.3J with ease that my m21 struggles to with it's 1.1J. Were you on yellow team? Yellow team definitely turned up and definitely deserved the win; they played hard and played as a team. Blue team just didn't show up as much. The team Beans group and the Defiant group were propping the team up, but there was only so much we could do That all said, I actually really enjoy being on the losing team, as long as it isn't a complete stompest.

  13. Was a good day, some great objectives to play, some excellent team play with mot of my friends now on radios, and I always love being able to play the whole site. My rifle is performing nicely, just needs to be made a touch more accurate. New pistol was pretty disappointing, even after I thought it was lifting bbs. probably just needs a new rubber though, so there's still hope. Also got shot in the ol' jewels, so that's one off the bucket list I hope to never repeat.

Most airsofters are welcoming and inclusive, irrespective of your personal perception of yourself. just go. You will not regret it. good times mate.

  17. Blimey. All I can say is glad you made it out OK. Hope all gets sorted soon for you. Being an engineer I've learned to respect electricity and batteries in particular. Most of the ones I work on are large lead acid units that a) can give you a hell of a belt (especially with a bank of 16 on charge - no cremation required...) and b) if they leak basically you end up with a scene not far removed from the bit in Alien when the facehugger's blood eats through the floor. Lithium batteries are great in use but like all batteries need care and attention both to get the best from them and to keep safe. Well-documented incidents involving laptops and phones spontaneously combusting on their shocked owners and Boeing 787s smoking on the apron are legion, however as with a things follow proper procedure, stay safe and keep an extinguisher handy...

  18. A problem I find with wet Wx gear is breathability. I sweat like a sumo wrestler even in the middle of winter and end up soaking wet under waterproofs which makes them kind of pointless 😅 one layer of clothing is all I can manage even when the temp is hovering around zero. Quick-drying stuff works best in my case. Waterproofs just don't work for this sweaty sock.

Nothing new here but took this pic of my two main plastic blasters with pet Xenomorph looking on. Thought it looked quite smart so I'd share. Nothing special but I just liked the shot.

  21. Playing 22 years and mainly stuck to these... Chest rig/Webbing for outdoors, webbing is great for long games but can be a bit much for skirmish days, we don't have to lug as much weight as a real soldier, that's where I would prefer my chest rig. I generally use a Plate Carrier or "gunfighter belt" and PACA style armour for CQB games, keep it light. Generally i'd say get a few options and try each one. sell what you don't want.

  22. Hey @Hussaroperator, welcome here Since you're in N-London, do you have a car to travel around? There are some good sites around the area here, e.g. Airsoft Plantation (aka AP) + The Tower (run by AP), both in Billericay, Echelon Airsoft in Gravesend (till 22nd November), Red 1 Chislehurst in, well, Chislehurst, Incursion Airsoft (formerly known as EAG) in Epsom and Dorking, and a bunch of others probably too.

    help with lipos

As a summer player, i tend to put all my lipos on a storage charge then keep them in a metal ammo tin over the winter. Any of them that feel puffy to the touch, bin them off ( admittedly I used to be a but more liberal with them when Hobbyking was stil around)

    help with lipos

Hello, As stated, if they are not swollen they should be fine. I have no experience with airsoft/LiPo but do have experience with FPV drones which also use large capacity 6s LiPo so the care is the same. You may have lost a little performance/lifespan but should still be fine. If you have a balance charger that can storage charge them and tell you the internal resistance then put them to storage charge and check none of the cells have a crazy high resistance. If not then no damage has been done. I would highly recommend a decent LiPo bag that can withstand and enclose a LiPo fire. Not sure what airsoft marketed ones are out there but in the drone world Torvol make an extremely good LiPo bag which can mostly contain a fire inside with 15x large 6s batteries. https://www.unmannedtechshop.co.uk/product/torvol-lipo-safe-pouch-stealth-edition/?msclkid=904ade6809f213220991bf1e9d082c4a It could save your life one day. I personally would not trust any cheap unbranded LiPo bag. Never let your guard down with a LiPo they are probably the single most dangerous thing you own if not treated carefully. Apologies if you knew all this already... I just know when I got into FPV drones that this info was expressed very strongly to newcomers who didn't have experience with LiPo.

Give em a little test in a gun. If they haven't swollen or distorted they should be OK. Make sure to keep them in a safe place the next time you charge them. (LiPo bag or metal tray)

  31. If we are remenicing about the days of yor (or some shit) my quickest win in Warhammer Fantasy (before gw actually let the bad guys win, - it was grim in the past as well) was in my opponents first turn. They went first - his Vampire Counts vs my goblins & orcs, billy big bollocks lines up his large unit of black knights lead by The Count himself does shenanigins to get a charge off. He gets off put by my smile getting bigger and picking up dice.....release the shroomed up balls of death that were night goblin fanatics all somehow pile into the count killing him outright as the poor guy conceeds, didnt bring any necromancers. Good times. Picked up an Eldar force for modeling and painting purposes with thoughts of finding somewhere to play.

  34. Ex-Workmate Eddy has been rocking a CM16 for years, and I don't think he's done anything more than charge the battery, but it just keeps going. He dialled the stock hop in once for 0.25g, and likely hasn't touched it since. I mean, I can point at all the extra "features" on my "upgraded" Specna Arms, but at the end of the day (and at the start and middle too), his G&G puts BBs downrange pretty much as well. You can change the barrel, hop, rubber, motor and electrics, but you don't actually have to.

  35. Welcome @Hussaroperator! If you're looking for nearby places to play, you can likely find them at PlayAirsoft. There are some locations closer to you than Driver Wood, so feel free to poke around. If you've played at a location that isn't on the site, I'd love for you to file a suggestion using form found on the website. Enjoy your time in here and happy hunting!

  36. First game back after a knee reconstruction and also my first game of 2021, felt good to be out and about again. An open day at anzio with first and only. Good day, nicely run; some slight longer breaks for the less fit, and from what I saw some solid marshaling (taking no bull and following up on the site rules and even ejecting where needed).

  37. Yes, it is. The thing is, at UK power levels, it's not that big a deal. Even if you're shooting at 1.3 or even higher, you're still not anywhere near the level of what we should be planning for, which is a negligent point blank shot of a 2.3J 0.5g sniper BB into someone's earball. We can now delight @Druid799 by segueing into a rant about how EN 166F glasses shouldn't be allowed on sites.

  39. After the MP7 and the HK45, I said I wasn't buying anything else. I would've stuck to it, but I was given an offer I couldn't refuse. £280 for this beast, now I just need the mags to come back in stock somewhere so I can get a bunch of spares, because 35 BBs isn't enough. Come on, Tokyo Marui, get some more mags out! 🤣 Fired it on the range today and I'm never going back to AEGs. It was so much fun to shoot!

Just a shame Zero One don't care enough about the limits at their own site (Ground Zero) to bother chrono-ing players. Agree with your suggestion of people getting their own chronographs.

  41. My local surplus shop has turned into a generic family run DIY store now. That lovely aisle of British army kit is now a line of paint tins and adhesives. I don't suppose they sold enough of the surplus stuff to make any money. I've not been there for several years and even then I don't think I spent much, so I can't complain. Mind you the paint was so overpriced I don't think they'll much of that either 😕 I've put the boots on and run around my garden for a few minutes. The problem is width not length. And that's apparent as some pressure across the top of the feet. They're near enough the right size that I'll try them for the day. But I'll have my trainers if I need to give up on that experiment early! The boots are fine for the price of £40. Not really grade A condition, as they're 2005 vintage, but new-ish soles with J masses of tread on them, and everything where it should be, leather still in good nick.

  43. Drugs/Drink with Firearms, or in this case replicas, do not mix well. This will always be a hard No from me and I expect that from any site I play at. Even in the evenings if its a weekend event, all it takes is one idiot to take something that makes their judgement lax then ND whilst fiddling with their RIF for the potential that someone will get hurt. Yes they are toys.. but without eye-pro things change.

I was about 350lbs when I got back into airsoft. I'm now, through lockdowns, about 250lbs and I did it all through diet. With my other active hobby hopefully opening back up next Monday, I'm doubling down on the diet I've gotten lax over during the summer to try and hit my goal for the end of the year (about 200lbs). Let's all drop those excess pounds and up our game! In terms of diet, I did it through keto, then simple calorie restriction. This time I plan on doing both, paired with getting back to martial arts with it reopening. However, keto isn't for everyone, so find what works for you and stick to it. As has been said, upping exercise will really help supplement healthy diet choices, so maybe consider investing in a bicycle and avoid public transport if you're in a city like I am (public transport is disgusting anyway...) In terms of starting airsoft, rent first, or buy some sort of two-tone cheapo sportline thing for £100 (can pick up a plastic bodied Cyma AK for £100); argument for the latter is that will give you a backup gun or something for spare parts later down the road after you buy a proper, non-two tone once you have your UKARA. You'll spend almost as much on rentals if you enjoy the hobby (3x before UKARA), so it's not a terrible idea, but it should be weighed heavily as you might go to your first game and hate it, which would be a lot cheaper to just rent. And if you do like it and decide to jump in, don't feel pressured to buy all the things. A simple cheap AEG (some of the cheaper brands have really upped their game over the last few years) and some army surplus kit will work wonders and cost very little.
