Guns You Know Are Bad but You Love Them Anyway

another one for the list- russian optics, pretty much universally worse than the western equivalents, most weigh about 3 tons, mounting on the siderail is a pain in the ass for battery fitment, their approach to the term "bore offset" is to laugh, they're awful for poking you in the stomach if you have the rifle slung and some of them don't work indoors. but goddamn if they ain't the steampunkest.4 points -
Tournament today. 600km drive, slept 3 hours and I'm pissed off already. First cunt who doesn't call hits is getting a buttstock in his teeth. If that wasn't enough now teammates are asking me for extra batteries and shit.4 points

Webley MK VI, awful things but cool AF. 1911s. Tiny gas capacity but cool AF. Pistols in airsoft in general except MK23s. Go for it. CYMA M14s are strangely addictive. By some strange alchemy they have great range, and just as importantly, actually fit the average human frame. Reliability wise they are pretty bulletproof and outshoot most aegs out of the box. They are front heavy though..!2 points -

That was about 21 for me, sadly. The struggle has been real since then, I sorted myself out in my 30s with restricted hours eating, lots of cycling, and some weights, but then I made the mistake of buying a motorised bicycle, and, oops, that was that. But as God is my witness, I will see my toes again. Absolutely, which is why it's so important to find a diet that you can stick to. I'm amazed how easy it's been to drop the bad carbs, after the first week. Hunger pangs and cravings have plummeted and restricted hours eating is a doddle. There's some evidence that just 3 x 10 minutes of interval sprints a week can have most of the health benefits of regular daily exercise, although that's not for me, I prefer moderate daily cycling. I would highlight the benefits of an indoor option like an exercise bike so that you don't have an excuse to skip it in bad weather.2 points

That should be more than sufficient. I used 6 [edit, dammit] 8 PLI 0.7mm 2.47mm hole, and couldn't get it to dent in the garage with point blank 1.1J / 0.25g. Although I never actually used it in game (as I managed to get polycarb working) and of course, test as hot and heavy as you can. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/153822205824 And I'd agree with using stainless, what I actually got was the black epoxy stuff (because tacticool stealth) but that's going to be prone to spalling.1 point

Parcel arrived from HK today, so I now have stubby mp5 mags! I way prefer them to full size, especially since I use the mp5k as a secondary.1 point

Druid799 reacted to Tactical Pith Helmet for a topic
I would imagine that stainless would be an idea. Whatever you paint/coat mild steel with has a tendency to chip. If you measured the thickness of a pair of standard off the shelf mesh goggles and used the same gauge stainless you would have something both lighter and stronger.1 point -
The 'How Did Your Airsoft Day Go? Thread
Jaylordofwaargh reacted to Tactical Pith Helmet for a topic
Today started badly. The (forward wired) battery wire in my main M4 had been pushed back into the body of the rif under the gearbox and stopped the mag from locating when I tried to chrono. Since I was in a rush, I went to grab my spare M4, only to find the motor spinning away in the grip and not engaging at all. A bit of thinking sorted the wire out in rif number one, as looking at gnu two, I could see where it is supposed to run. Extremely simple two second fix but being late and flustered did not help. The rest of the day went fine. Good gameplay and lots of sneaking through the undergrowth bumping the other team and seeing who was fastest on the trigger, usually them tbh, as I misidentified a couple of people as friendlies! A team mate actually stand on me, much to his surprise, as I was sneaking up on a group of players, so at least my camo and fieldcraft must have been on point. No complicated storylines as ‘rona limits the group carrying etc, but I thoroughly enjoyed the gameplay despite some people moaning about non-hit taking. Marshals coped with the situation really well and had the correct words with a couple of lads. Lots of running, leaping and shouting followed. Several girls played today, which is nice to see. Cold sausages and salad for lunch since I am following the AFUK low carb diet… drank six litres of water in field. Seriously, I wonder how anyone gets by with a ’56 pattern bottle and bugger all else hydration wise. The site tech shimmed the motor on gnu two for nix as he is a diamond of a chap. I kind of wish that I’d made the effort to take a themed loadout, since a few people had done so, but my standard skirmish rig is pretty tried and tested and has evolved through the years. Went home drenched in sweat with two working guns, a big grin and a strong desire for a G&T. Good day out.1 point -

Brotherhood98 reacted to Adolf Hamster for a topic
for range you want good quality heavy ammo (as heavy as you can afford depending on the round count, for me the ~.3g range is a nice balance of cost/performance for outdoors), a hop than can lift said ammo (i'm a fan of maple leaf macaron+omega nub combo, or pdi W-hop for guns that don't like the ml feedlips), as good an air seal as you can get and energy output at least decently close to the site limit (which might be lower than ideal for outdoors if your cqb site has a lower limit) for air seal have a look here for how to check it: that's if you're happy enough opening up the box. alternately the shot-shot fps variation on a chrono can be a good indication (you want every round at the same fps) you also want to be cleaning the barrel on the regular if you aren't already (minimum before every game day, if not also during) if you've got all that sorted and still want more then you might want to look at barrels, the ZCI stainless 6.02's are very good performance for the money, just pick whatever length is closest to the stock barrel.1 point -
Quick Shimming Question.
Rogerborg reacted to Adolf Hamster for a topic
indeed, things like tooth engagement/backlash aren't really adjustable for airsoft gearboxes so sometimes they won't mesh right, plus ofc the tooth profile/face quality plays into it as well. keep meaning to give helical gears a go but they seem to mostly be catered to high torque dmr builds than high speed builds, and the notation for the ratio is confusing. plus box material, eg the harder material of an lct box makes for more vibration than the softer material of a jg box.1 point -
Dmr Hop
Pewpewpetie reacted to Skara for a topic
The lack of adjustment is something I've experienced a couple of times already. Currently the maxx clone I have in my PDW goes from fuck all to skying 0.32s within one number (0 to 1) which makes adjusting the hop a bit of a chore. But it's not necessarily a bad thing The lack of consistency is what worries me, I blame it on the hop unit, as mentioned by Borg the slack between the gears can have an impact on the pressure applied, so one shot flies fine, the next goes low because the arm managed to slightly rise, or vice versa, your first shot goes stupid high then it drops. left to right deviation can be the hop rubber not being properly seated or just a dirty barrel (most noticeable in a tight bore of some sort). I'd give the ZCI unit a go, it's inexpensive enough to try and the fact that it's rotary automatically makes it better than the fancy Modify you bought1 point -

Pts Radian Model 1 Double Feed/Jamming Issue
samcw reacted to PewPewLoki for a topic
I don't have any of the PTS/LM4 platform rifles, so take this with a grain of salt, but from what I understand this is caused by the mags being 'double-stacked' and the feed lips presenting 2 BBs. The nozzle is supposed to only strip the top BB off the lips, but instead manages to grab 2, causing fun times like you mentioned - more of a design flaw than anything caused by usage or bad QC. I'm also told that this is widespread across all KWA/PTS rifles including the Tavor and ACR/Masada, but is less prevalent in the plastic mags than the metal ones. A company called Unifeed makes replacement lips and followers, which you can use instead of the PTS/KWA ones so that the mag only presents 1 BB to be picked up by the nozzle and hopefully preventing the doublefeed issue. Might be worth looking into them. Left and Right are PTS/KWA magazines as they come out of the factory. Middle is with the Unifeed lips and follower installed.1 point -

My webley revolver , the FPS is like a drunk staggering home from the pub one minute it’s putting out 330+ next instant it’s doing 185 all over the place ! so to be fair it really is utterly useless to scurmish but then I remember it takes 6 actual cartridges and when you break it it pops them out like a real one ! 😍 As to the TAG question I can see both sides , when they first started to appear a mate got some , in game he fires one up and over the outer wall of a plywood ’castle’ , we then hear a bang and scream and few minutes later to see a distinctly wobbly looking player being escorted out of said castle by a couple of marshals back to the safezone ! turns out the TAG round had gone sailing over the wall and detonated against the poor chaps gun and had scared the living bejesus out of him 😱 did see him in the safezone later on trying(and failing) to light a fag but his hands where shaking too much ! 😬 After that incident it was decided that they could only be fired with a clear line of site to the target .1 point -

I guess I'm lucky. It's rare that anyone uses tags at my local site, because they're silly expensive. However, when I went to my first (and probably only) milsim event last month, people were launching tags more than I was firing my bolt action rifle. Seriously, the number of tags that went off were horrendous. That said, I have seen them at one skirmish game day from a bunch of milsim manchildren where they got annoyed with me because they kept firing tags into a location that I had long since relocated away from, they just hadn't seen me relocate and assumed I was there and not calling the hit. You'd have thought they'd give up after 2, but I think they fired 5 tags into that position before the game ended. To me, it's unfathomable how much some people spend on airsoft, and that's coming from me and my real steel load bearing gear, expensive HPA boltie setup and multitude of upgraded TM pistols. Adding another to this list though, I'm going to say GBBRs. They're inconsistent, can throw a tantrum in the cold, but I love them all the same. I just love the kick and the realism, even if I'm limited to 35 BB magazines vs hi-cap heroes at a skirmish day Also, any original 1911 GBB. The magazines are tiny, so a full fill is equivalent to like... half or less of another GBB magazine. However... I love my 1911! And why not make it a third. M14s. M14s are horrible to work on, they're really heavy and super front-heavy, and they're just another AEG now that their hop up isn't wizardry relative to other platforms any more. However, once I HPA mine it will be my main gun alongside the VSR because I love it and I love how it looks. There's just something about the m14 that I love (and people seem to love. I get a lot of people asking about my m14 and complimenting me on it whenever it comes out to play)1 point -

Whole Game 'Sin Binned'
Tactical Pith Helmet reacted to EDcase for a topic
Yep, more important than terrain or structures, the quality of marshals influence how a day can go. They are the game masters after all.1 point -
I appreciate being chronoed in game, but marshals need to understand that they're looking for folk who cheated the morning chrono, not the victims of circumstance. Gas guns will creep up as the temperature rises. If you chrono first thing in the morning, gas guns that are are 0.1J under the site limit are 100% going to be over it an hour later. Either don't let them on the field, or be sure that whoever chronos them later understands this. The correct response in that case is to ask players to take it out of the game, and to offer a rental gun if you have any available, not to punt them off site. If there are multiple site chronos available, test on the one that gives the lowest reading - or else bin all of them except the one that give the highest. Grinds my gears, the number of marshals who don't know the first thing about what they're doing. [Rants about the marshal that didn't know how to read the Joules number off a chrono on a site that chronos in Joules]1 point

Oh, it was hilarious, the chrono was set to the correct BB weight, and I actually pointed at the Joules number on it. But he still insisted on looking up the FPS figure and BB weight on an app on his phone, because, uhhh, you trust the chrono's FPS number, but not its ability to do a simple piece of arithmetic with it?0 points
