    Gun brands

G&G - Excellent overall, very little problems with the combat machine series (such as some magazines require a bit of tape to feed properly) Very good reputation. Classic Army - Again, excellent guns, built very nicely. I'd avoid their Sportline series as the plastic they use for the receivers are very fragile. King Arms - Pretty much the same as Classic Army, but with a more 'exotic' variety of guns available. An underrated company. ICS - Fantastic guns, good reputation about almost all of their rifles, my L86 is built like a tank and performs brilliantly after some tinkering with the hop up. I've noticed that their M4's are shaped differently compared to the standard Marui/clone M4's, but that's probably to do with the split-gearbox design. Airsoft-Ed has extensive knowledge on their L85's, if you have any questions about them, ask him. GHK - veeerrrryyyyy nice GBBR's. Nothing but praise from their owners. Realistic finish and solid performance, the G5 is a pretty good cold-weather gun despite it being a GBBR. But I'd recommend doing your own research on them before plunging into the gbbr route. G&P - Great platform for building an aeg, finish is nice on all their guns, however they're a bit pricey for what they offer. A&K/P&J - I've only ever owned their spring SVD, but I have heard nothing but praise about their aeg's, try and purchase one from Taiwangun as UK retailers overprice them. JG/Golden Eagle - Aged, since the "Golden Eagle" re-brand, prices for them have increased dramatically for the soul purpose of making money from them, they're overhyped by such retailers, claiming that they're "better than Tokyo Marui - JBBG" but there's nothing special about them. If you find a JG online, purchase it from (again) Taiwangun or other Hong Kong/Taiwanese websites. I'd avoid purchasing second-hand, normally heavily used and poorly maintained. Also popular for their VSR clones as they are cheap and, to some extent, built better than the Marui version. Cyma - Fantastic value for money, their AK's are very reliable, but avoid their M4's as they're a bit crap, as expereinced by Airsoft_Mr B. They've recently introduced some tri-shot M870's in metal and plastic varients, not much is known about them but they look to be nice little shotguns. Tokyo Marui - Their standard aeg's have aged.. Poorly. For how much they cost, you can get a MUCH nicer and better performing gun, same with their Tr-shot shotguns. However, their Recoil guns and gas blow backs are still considered the best on the market by many, understandably so. Cybergun - Same as Echo1, they put trade marks on existing cheap aeg's then overprice them for it. WE - Hit and miss, personally. Their aeg's are good, using the same materials that they build their GBB's from, gearbox's are pretty bog standard. If you're going to purchase their GBB rifles, don't bother replacing parts as soon as you get one, wait for the parts to break then start to replace them. They do however require an NPAS which makes the fps adjustable. My Hi-Power and AK fell apart, but I think my AK fell apart due to the recoil kit I put in it. Says it all really. Well - Eh, avoid. Their Gen 1, 2 and 3 L96's are good, the Gen 3 is better built but needs upgrading if you want it to be somewhat useable on the field. KWA - Good guns, but proprietary parts are a bit annoying. Their ERG is fantastic, crisp recoil and solid performance. Excellent gas guns, especially the popular MP9, amazing performance from such a little gun. The noise it makes is scary. Double Eagle - Shotguns are fantastic, however everything else they've made is a bit mediocre. Jin Peng - Lol, Tippman - Their M4 has good reputation so far, HPA so requires extra money being spent to make it work, definitely worth it though. Systema - I'll leave them to your own judgement, people that own them praise them but people that don't own them tend to talk crap about them. However, they perform amazingly, very quiet guns, but I'll never own one. Celcius - Better than Systema as they're constantly innovating and offering different upgrade options for their guns. Reputation is good, price is ok for what they offer. Real Sword - Excellent guns, people buy them for their realistic features and finish, and for their unique guns that they offer. Ares/Star - From what I've heard from people on the forums, the problems that their guns have are a bit of a widespread myth, from my own experience they're just as reliable as any other aeg. But do your own research about them and come to your own judgement about them. Krytac - Excellent guns for the money, better gearbox's and overall design than most aeg's in the same price range on the market. Dytac - What G&P should have been. Fantastic looking guns with better-than-standard internals, people have been running 11v lipos through them without issues. Definitely recommend them over G&P any day. SRC - Eh, avoid. Mediocre quality for the price that you pay. Their G36's are nice, but comparable to JG's G36's in terms of performance. APS - Comparable to Classic Army, slightly lower quality but solid guns overall. D-boys - Popular for their cheap Scar-L's & Scar-H's, most of their guns have a poor finish, the paint they use for their M4's feels like a chalk board, good guns though. Their AK's are nice, most of them being made from steel and wood but you don't pay the Real Sword price for one (albeit their finish is poorer.) Aim Top - Solidly built guns, but the externals are a bit naff. Comparable to JG. LCT - Realistic fit and finish, but they're pretty much a conversation piece, I've noticed they're more attention grabbing than PTW's (probably over-exaggerating). Which isn't a bad thing at all. S&T - Toyish externals, especally with their Tar 21's, a good option if you want a cheap exotic gun that won't fall apart straight away. Snow Wolf - Like with S&T, a good option if you want a cheap exotic gun, they're only popular for their M82's and M41A pulse rifle. Evolution - They seem to be well built, but I don't know much about them. AGM - Again, same with S&T, a good option if you want a cheap exotic gun (primarily their WW2 weapons such as the popular MP44 and Sten gun.) quality and performance is comparable to stock JG's. Echo1 - They essentially re-brand JG's, AGM's and other cheap manufacturers and overprice them because they'll include an extra magazine. Essentially, they're a money making gimmick. CAA - Comparable to Classic Army, nice externals, standard internals, the furniture for their M4's looks absolutely horrendous IMO. Like G&P, they're a bit overpriced for what they are. Hope that helps.

In any event HPA guns (again in my view) should remain where they belong on the paintball field.

  7. I hope that wasn't the usual polastar guy who's there often (his polastar doesn't have a front RIS section, just receiver and straight into silencer), as he's always been really really well mannered and very sensible about dishing out ROF when I've been there. My experience is the difference in hurt comes entirely from weight of BB and distance, whatever method used to push it out the barrel is irrelevant. Airsoft weapons being representitive of real firearms is another thing that's 'in your mind'. A very common sentiment, but not the founding principals of airsoft or anything (seems the Japs just wanted to shoot each other in a non-lethal manner). Perhaps the founding principal of milsim. I got an AEG that does 25-30rps depending on whether use lipo or not. I put it in a thundermall so people can be certain it's not realistic There's plenty good uses for high ROF other than overkill. As for restrictions etc, in my mind if i shouldn't be allowed a gun that can spray 30rps across a group of people and hit them all a couple times at once with it, then they shouldn't be allowed to all turn round at once and pepper the feck outta me with 5 guns at 15rps either! All comes down to how you use it, perfectly easy to be an overkill whiny dick with a entry level AEG

  9. I'd actually rather have a lower rate of fire on my LMG as it gets through a hell of a lot of ammo, although I also "only" have 1200 round box mags. I think the only way you can remotely suppress people in Airsoft is to more or less constantly fire as people will shoot back as soon as you stop. I do like it when people are blatantly not taking their hits though as you can give them a couple of chances to take it before finding out how much of a box mag they will endure before putting their hand up. I think the record is 5 or so seconds continuous fire.

  10. Top tip: don't buy viper, it's garbage. There's loads of other brands that are better and often cheaper. Uktactical.com are doing a 10% off sale on warrior at the moment (stuff is pretty much bomb proof). Likewise flecktarn.co.uk do a good range of bulle pouches and rigs which are very well put together.

you can try/buy a pack at halftime just don't switch midgame - I tried a bag of .28's and spent too much time pi$$balling about adjusting my hop and was taken out very very quickly so lesson learnt - don't try and switch thinking it will only take a sec soz to my team - I was exceptionally crap that afternoon

If you can get the hop to lift .25s you will see marked improvements in range. If it's the ICS M4 you're talking about then you should be fine - I'd give the .25s a go but take your .20s in case it doesn't happen.

yup may need bedding in a bit to build up to full capacity.... don't add anything to them but bb's..... some say drop of oil or silicone - nope you really don't wanna contaminate the mags some pushed through some old used bb's with a hint of silicone from yonks back but you really don't wanna chuck in anything yet........ it is like a car running in some mags - usually after about 4 fills they should get near their capacity and feed sweet suppose you can fill up a speedloader with a few hundred bb's run them into mag, pop mag patially full in a carrier bag and flick the bb retainer catch a few times more, refill speedloader with bb's in bag - repeat etc...... should see some improvement but hopefully without need to add oil as there is always a danger of overdoing a faintest of spray oily bb's won't go well through hop them ones - think many have got them run quite well very quickly - well seem to for me one of a handful of mags that feed great in a picky 416

Could be a naff speedloader. I had one that once it got any resistance against it wouldnt load and did exactly what your describing. There is a little latch inside that is supposed to stop bbs going back into the speedloader and sometimes it doesn't engage when under pressure. Try loading by hand if that works then buy a TM speedloader they are the only ones I have never had issues with.

I would suggest switching to .25's. The extra reach it will give you for very little extra cash is worth it. I only ever use .2s for chronoing. Above .25's bb's start going up in price so I leave anything heavier for the snipers.

I'd stick with .20's and see how you go..... your gun is at 330 not 350 for Mall if shooting mainly in woods the wind won't be as bad unless you have more open battles (wood/trees will shelter some of the breeze factors unless you play in stronger breezes) my own site has an area which is completely open field on about 40% of "village" area so long shots may suffer a bit more deviation from wind etc..... learn ya gun's range and wisely choose when to open fire see how you go with .20's first, but if not then try .25's if your losing range perhaps I have used some .25's but jnr still sticks on .20's I need as much help as I can get but that sod was still kicking my ar$e from afar on .20's

    Gun "Bling"

Somewhere in these parts you'll find my "Strike Back" M4. It's front wired and has a Magpul stock so it necessitates the need for a PEQ battery box. Which is handy because it fits the look of the screen gun. Other than that, ignore the haters. If you want a PEQ box, get a PEQ box. It's your gun and you're the one that has to lug it around. The Element PEQ 15 is supposed to be quite good as far as having a useful functional torch but if you JUST want it for the torch there are much better options for the money (Night Evolution M300 scout light for example). Bear in mind that a lot of sites don't like you using lasers let alone green ones so don't pay over the odds for a PEQ battery box just because it has a laser in it.

  22. Never understood why people want such a rate of fire unless its a support weapon. At the end of the day its only the first one that hits that counts so if 10 more follow it someone is just being a dick. I mainly use semi auto and if I do use full auto then its programmed to burst fire anyway. As for hitting harder dont think thats down to propulsion just down to a well set up gun. If your hop is set too high then the bb loses momentum quicker because of excessive back spin, I reckon 75% of airsoft guns have this problem.

It's a choice by the player to have a high ROF though. I'm surprised that people don't argue consent - that is that if people don't consent to a ROF above 30, then it's off. Afterall, if not for consent (as a defence to ABH) we'd have no sport. If you're wondering why 30 rps, if a person wields two 15 rps guns it's hard to call that "unrealistic/impossible".

    Not taking hits?

Alright guys, calm down. There was a good article on why P* guns are perceived as hitting harder in one of the Airsoft magazines, I'll see if I can find it but it was along the lines that due to the way they work HPA users tend to use heavier ammo which through the joy of conservation of momentum has more of the kinetic energy it's imparted with still left when it makes contact. Thing is though it's STILL only 1J (especially at the Mall due to their strict FPS enforcement). Generally I don't have an issue with anyone using an HPA gun. If they want to lug a tank of air along with everything else then hey, that's their problem. The one in use at the Mall however is set up with a ROF like a sewing machine and THAT I do have an issue with. But then I have an issue with that regardless of the gun or how it's powered.

  29. nice work as the crack is underneath at front of receiver - you can still make up & fit a small external U or n shaped support as well that shouldn't foul any of the front end fitting into receiver painted black - nobody will ever know at first glance - bit like some scope mounts little block made up fixed with some slightly longer M3 bolts will keep her together with a U or n clip/support and will only help in to make the repair last perhaps oohh be really clever - make up the support as a underside AK scope mount SORT OF LIKE THIS NB - note sure 101% if all AK mounts will fit your exact model as there is some slight variations between make/models but you kinda get the idea of what I was saying to add extra support if it has a full U clip than the L shape clip in pic welcome to forum - your skills & equipment and approach in general are very impressive btw slicone oil is also good for polishing barrel & cylinder - not quite machine polished I know but that stuff is mega slippery - keep it well away from hop bucking - but 80 to 90% of barrel polished works very well as long as barrel/cylinder isn't scratched up the silicone works very well hopefully in use they get polished up a bit but like most stuff - tiny bit of crap and it gets scratched very easily

  34. don't worry about camo, at airsoft ranges block colours work just as well anyway, as long as you're not wearing bright orange you're all good. chest rig/plate carrier etc wise, budget and capacity are your two main factors here; with a molle rig you can tailor it 100% to your requirements or theres plenty of already dressed chest rigs that are really well arranged. Best bet is to give us an indication of how much stuff you're likely to be carrying and a rough budget, a 3x magazine and one grenade load is going to require a very different solution to 10x magazines, 2x grenades, bolt cutters, pistol, first aid kit, 3L camelbak, waterproofs etc... Oh, and a backpack for woodland games is entirely unnecessary, never ever have I had a requirement for one on a standard walk-on day.

    Noobs and Milsims

The thing is that a lot of these games are based on trust. If the ammo limit is 600 rounds, then people are trusted to carry that. If they want to cheat and carry more, nobody is going to search them, but they are only really cheating themselves and they probably dont have the right esprit de corps in the first place.

  48. Don't reinvent the wheel. Even airsoft mechanics with tremendous experience don't make inner barrels. Those should be very straight lengthwise. If you turn it and work on it that way, it can be precise in diameter but it still can be wavy. There is a lapping tool someone makes that polishes the barrel lengthwise, but it doesn't make much difference. The high end inner barrels are very good and I don't think they can be improved in a workshop. Also bear in mind that inner barrels don't contribute much to the accuracy. Even if you have a normal chinese gun, and change only the inner barrel, there won't be much improvement. If the original wasn't faulty (scratches or bent) then the difference is not noticeable. Precision barrels are one of the worst price/value upgrades. When you get the gun, check the inner barrel if it's straight, and polish it maybe.

  49. Just how bright do they need to be though? My ASG one is plenty bright enough to be seen in normal ambient light (certainly bright enough to give away your position in the dark) I can't honestly see any need for it to be any brighter!

  50. Battery - get 2 medium's say 1600mah & change at lunchtime (7.4v lipo's are perhaps best but I also use older nimah's now n then) The G&G you listed is great deal - has top but no side/ bottom rails as standard - battery up front other versions are rear wired.... Other option is a Raider - wtf they didn't do this a limited edition I'll never know as it has gotta be their #1 seller Short version = 233mm barrel Long version = 360mm barrel aprox only difference is barrel length - suppose you could say Long is better value as you get more gun/barrel for same price but if you play cqb then Short might be better suited perhaps CM18 - 275 barrel falls nicely in between short/long raider but is £150-£155 & comes with 120 mag instead of 300 hi-cap but looks sexy as hell and rails galore like Raider FireHawk - small noisy bad ass that turns heads all the time but not as good as they used to be - battery in stock tube is a pain The above models are all great guns - maybe a Raider is #1 selling starter gun as its cheap, light ABS/Polymer but sturdy rails for all ya bits n bobs - very very popular - common as hell if you like but it is bloody good gun for money If you want to be different and not follow the M4 herd then look at Cyma AK's but I like M4's as they are more ergonomic for me (AK's do have some stuff going for them - bigger mag/longer barrel - they can show up many M4's) Shame G&G never did a Raider with 275-300 barrel and they should of done a limited Raider with 280 barrel or a CM18 metal CM16 Carbine's are very good also - but I do not own one (yet) as I got other SRC & ICS models Battery up front on Carbine's abnd usually come in the long 363mm barrel but they do a lite version with 275/300 barrel but no rails as standard on carbine Phew there is the GC26 one but I think that is not as good as other models I listed - has a plastic flip sight that I think would break easily if dropped - yet the limited edition one is metal receiver but still plastic sight - jeez (front wired btw) If its your first gun and getting 2-toned then either your GC16 or a slightly cheaper Raider with its rails galore They are all built the same - very well inside.... No I don't work for G&G - I wish. But I'll put it this way..... I have bought/owned more G&G's than SRC or ICS M4's (and I bought some crap at first from " BB " sites and seriously regretted wasting my money) If you do buy cheaper crappier guns then that is fine - you will just be an easier target for others to shoot you Think that should cover most G&G models up to about £150, there a few other makes/models but that is my take on the common as muck Ford Transit van workhorses of Airsoft starter guns
