  1. Pretty happy with this setup, has been several years in the making and refinement. TM MWS, a few minor changes to make it ambi and loft 0.32g BBs. TacBelts paracord ends for the Slingster keep it quiet and the Brownells forend keeps it old school. Waiting on a carry handle as they are like Unity Mounts but prettier. Spiritus Mk5 for 3 rifle mags and a pistol speed loader in a Esstac Kywi (kydex trimmed to allow the feeder lips to protrude…Matron!) I can top off 3 mags from this to save carrying extra weight. IFAK with actual kit I or others might need (make use of my FREC3 qualification somehow) FRV belt (back before they stopped actually supplying customers) with USP holster and TM USP, Direct Action dump pouch holding an M4 kywi for slick reloads and an added elastic leg strap a la TrexArms. Kydex Kustoms holder for the AlphaTex BFG. This set up is plenty for the usual skirmish and if I am really lazy I can run just the chest rig and Mk5 pyro on the elastic strap on the side. The coyote brown goes with most things, even the slightly faded SADF M83, and either civvy or Ranger Green gear.

  3. Today, the lad and I wandered off to Splatoon, a smallish airsoft and paintball in deepest Essex. I had been once before for a boot fair, but this was to be our first time playing there. The safe zone is pretty large and well appointed with remarkably good toilet facilities, a tap for water, a decent food stall selling the usual range of drinks, snacks and burgers (actually including vegetarian!) and HPA filling points. It just about absorbed the 90-100 players who were present. All weapons except pistols must wear a muzzle sock in the safe zone. After finding a table and chronoing (which opened early and ran very efficiently), we were ready for the first game; this was a simple domination using the four available playing areas (two are being upgraded), two of which were wooded with lots of small structures, while the others contained a variety of larger structures, mostly built from old shipping containers, a kill house and a couple of wrecked helicopters. This was a good, fun game which provided us with a good opportunity to explore the areas that were in play. Hit taking seemed to be very good and the game ran well; apart from the last five minutes of the day, all weapons except support weapons were limited to semi auto, which meant that the latter actually had a distinct role. After a quick trip to the safe zone to reload, we went back out to play a game were our team (red) had to transport a bomb across the site (at 90 degrees to the direction the first game had been played) and place it in either of the two helicopters. If the bomb carrier was hit, they had to drop the bomb, which could then be picked up by another member of the team; the opponents could not touch it. After a very good set of battles across the site, we got our bomb in with about 7 minutes to spare. Yay! Go us! This game was then reversed; a well organised defence resulted in our opponents being unable to get their bomb into either helicopter. Yay! Go us, again! After lunch, about which I cannot comment as we took pizza, there was a fun team deathmatch, which was manic, slightly chaotic (in a good way) and a good way to blow off the post lunch lethargy. We then moved on to a fallback game; as the attackers, we respawned on a marshal who was a reasonable distance behind us, while the defenders had three lives in each of the four zones. We pushed them out of the woods quite rapidly and then got stuck attempting to break into the first of the container structure areas, thanks to a gritty defence by our opponents. Eventually, we managed to break into the area, although many of our team were taken out by a superb pyro throw which sailed over one of the helicopters and exploded, taking out all of the players who were clustered behind it. We slowly pushed up and were just starting to move into the final zone when we ran out of time. As so often seems to happen in the afternoon, a few players became quite vocal about alleged non hit taking and other alleged misdemeanours so, when we returned to the safe zone, the site owner gave a rather impressive "motivational talk", reminding everyone that we were there to have fun shooting each other with plastic balls from toy guns and it really was not something to get aggressive about; this was very well received. As it was now getting close to the end of the day, we went out for another team deathmatch, albeit with a slight twist; the first ten minutes would be team v team and semi only, while the last five minutes would be all v all with full auto allowed. The lad announced that he would be keeping as far away from me as possible towards the end of the game; I can't think why. The last five minutes were as chaotic and fun as might be expected with lots of people taking the opportunity to shoot their mates. Thus ended the day; it was great fun, was well marshalled and made the best use of the four areas of the site that were available. We left very satisfied and will definitely return. As the lad is off to train for Cambrian Patrol and then back off to university, while I have rehearsals for our third festival gig of the summer and the festival, our next game will be at Op-Tac's The Kingdom near Stoke in early September. Weapons used: Me: LCT PP-19-01 APS UAR Milbro M1911 Classic (CO2) - until it died just after lunch. The lad: CYMA AKS74U LCT AS-VAL ASG XP18 Commander (CO2)

  4. When I started a few years back, I thought GBBRs seemed like too much work for little gain, especially against the hi-cap/drum mag spray-and-pray window lickers. Now, I'm completely at peace with the game, including the drum mag, HPA speedy bois and all their shenanigans. One well-aimed shot from my MWS gives me a tingling usually reserved for buxom wenches bringing beers. A couple of games ago I tracked one lad as he was running. When I squeezed the trigger it was followed by a "Ow. OW! That fucking hurt! That's a stinger!" as I got him in the neck...although this was more by luck as I'm a crap shot and body mass is my preferred target 😂 Seriously though, GBBRs are a different and more rewarding gaming experience, at least to this call sign. They've rejuvenated my interest in the hobby and long may it continue. As i've said before, "JOIN US!!!!"

  5. It's all relative. I'll drop £500 on airsoft without blinking. I look at a pack of pasta and think; "You can fuck off if you think I'm paying £2.80 for that!"

  6. Probably going to pick up my first gbbr next weekend. Can't skirmish due to rather grim family events, so will use a bit of free time to have a tinker. Decided, I think to get an AA G36. I know it's not gonna last, but it'll give me something to take apart and fix without the stresses of screwing up something 3 times the price. I'd like to thank the forum once again for encouraging me to lighten my wallet further. Sod you all. 🤪

  7. Right, I got bored - too bored to wait for some low-tack vinyl to appear, so I went and bought some modeller's masking tape (Revell brand) in the hope that it'd do a better job than the green painter's tape I was using previously (spoiler: not really) So my M90 Homage happened... I did the colours in the wrong order, so there's more khaki than green, was intending the other way around, but actually this looks nicely 'disruptive' so it's fine. It's not perfect when inspected closely (damn it, vinyl might be the only way to do it really nicely), but I'm happy with it. It'll look even better when worn / weathered, as the khaki is brighter in sunlight than this pic shows ... which brings me to a question: @JimFromHorsham you mentioned a light dusting of black to blend it... would you recommend me trying that across the whole gun? I've previously spoiled my M16 with side-spray that drifted across from a bit I was touching-up, leaving a lot of big blobs, is there a knack to getting a really fine dusting?

Gamed mine today, what an absolute hoot ! Got some decent kills with it including one at range which surprised me, gave a speculative burst thinking it would make him keep his head down and up went the arm ! 4 mags filled to 160 lasted me a game and the box mag handled them with no issues. My god that thing holds alot of gas ! I went through a complete bottle of green today, although I ran GBB all day. The 249 came out for 2 games , then the L119 A1 and the G3 had a run .

  13. There's a lot of sense spoken here. Yes we should be careful as any small group can be portrayed as guilty of wrongthink in the febrile clickbait climate nowadays. That said I'm on the verge of old fartdom now, but I was bought up with the general sentiment that you don't wear badges and insignia you're not entitled to. I take it a stage further and to make sure I absolutely can not be mistaken for a walt pretending to be a real soldier I wear a deliberate mismatch of different camo patterns. (Anyway it breaks up my silhouette. Or something). My first thought about Z or Wagner insignia is that while we should aspire to live in a free-er and more tolerant country I would enjoy shooting at that. I have seen someone in Waffen SS get up but as he didn't have badges as I remember I guess it was okay. My half German nephew raised his eyebrows mind you. I mean if you've got an Stg44 you absolutely must accessorise with I suppose I sort of understand. But frankly I find the lack of historical knowledge and nuance of Gen Z pretty frustrating, one game and we had to grab various flags and once we had the German flag the lad with it was all like "I've got the nazi flag!" He was serious, it was the flag of the modern Bundesrepublik Deutschland and I don't think he understood why I was upset. It's not so much that they're edgelords or dickheads I suspect, but rather that a lot of what we're talking about here can be laid at the door of a simplistic education in history and civics (or lack thereof) in recent decades. Warhammer 40K or Star Wars cosplay and you're on much safer ground.

    Gun upgrades

It's been said well enough already but it's a message worth repeating. When a much younger (but no less handsome 😛 ) hamster was starting out in this hobby he bought himself his favourite gun, a g&g f2000 because bad company 2. Needless to say as a serial tinkerer it didnt take me long to have the thing to bits and back again, and whilst the g&g implementation of the v6 box is an absolute dream to work on compared to an m4 it just means you can skip right past the easy mistakes and into the sneaky buggers that haunt you for years. For example, i installed an active brake mosfet after learning the hard way how quickly an 11.1v lipo can eat a set of trigger contacts if you let it. Had it been your common m4 of ak a new set of contacts is no big deal but being an oddball i had to order a whole trigger module from the states. So began the problems, i could never get it to fire reliably in semi auto, full auto was fine but the lack of semi annoyed me no end. I tried fully rewiring to heavy gauge wire, i tried different motors, i tried different gearing, nothing worked. And so she sat, for years, i loved and still love the quirky look, but every time i'd bring her out to play the janky trigger (bad enough at the best of times) always had me reverting to something else because even if she was running well i just didnt like using it. Turns out that looking good in a video game and actually handling a thing is a big difference. Eventually as my constant tinkering continued i ended up throwing in a warfet that was spare from another build and the penny dropped- gone was the semi auto issues that had plagued her the whole time i owned her, turned out all the fettling and filing of trigger components, lining things up just so wasnt actually the problem, it was the damned active brake. But by this point i was basically an ak convert, turns out that's the platform i most like using/working on, at least as far as airsoft goes. There are 2 key points from this story: 1. Taking some time, and actually getting hands on with a gun is worth the effort, you might love the looks of a particular platform from video games/movies etc and thats absolutely fine but you may well find that what you actually preferr to use irl is something completely different. 2. Jumping straight into trying to modify your pews, especially when you dont have a clear objective in mind and its your only pew is gonna be a recipe for disaster, trust me the walk of shame when your gun's stopped working or is shooting so wildly you couldnt hit the broad side of a barn from inside said barn gets real old the tenth time it happens and when you're just starting out it will happen a lot. That isnt to say you shouldnt get into tinkering with your pew, its fun and ultimately quite rewarding and something i absolutely advocate people should have a go at, but it's definately smarter to wait until you've got a reliable spare to fall back on. As has been mentioned paying someone to work on your pew is a minefield, there are a few about who will do excellent work but just as many who either dont know, dont care or both and will just about go through the motions of fitting whatever expensive parts they think they can convince you to spend money on with no care as to wether or not that will actually improve the guns performance.

  18. It all depends on what you value. At baseline, you should know that airsoft will never be anywhere near as accurate as RS shooting. The very top end of upgraded tuned spring snipers struggle to make accurate shots at 100-110 meters. For an OOTB rifle, you shouldn’t expect more than 80 meters even with the best ammo. You should also know that spring snipers are not more accurate than any other class of airsoft weapon. They all shoot 6mm plastic balls (except for some very rare, odd, irrelevant models that shoot 8mm), and so the physics are the same between every airsoft gun. Secondly, I would suggest you go over to airsoftsniperforum.com, make an account there, and ask the same question. They specialize in everything to do with long range, and someone on there has dealt with every model you’re considering. Back to what you value—pure accuracy out of the box isn’t the only factor you should consider. I’m not an expert on spring snipers, but you should be on the lookout for parts compatibility with common models (IE, TM VSR), because if anything does break or wear out you want to be able to fix it, magazine compatibility (some models feature horrible mags). And finally, since I’m running out of spring sniper information, remember that price tag does not mean quality in any way shape or form! The best all round “buy-and-don’t-touch” spring sniper (compatibility, quality, accuracy) is currently considered to be the Novritsch VSR, despite there being plenty of far more expensive options. Good luck on the journey!

Ran mine today at AWA Herts. Got a few kills with it, though I'm still dialing in the hop so accuracy isn't perfect yet. I had a small issue in the middle of the first game where the gun decided it didn't want to work with a mag inserted, but would dry fire without a mag hapilly, so I dropped to my tippmann for game 2 then had a look at the 249 over lunch. Turned out the square block on the recoil spring was sat askew because the cross pin had worked its way to one side. Easy fix, just used a pistol mag to tap the pin central and the gun worked flawlessly all afternoon (I also gave the workings a wipe off and reapplied clean silicone gun oil and gun grease). I will be applying some loctite or similar to the pin when I strip the gun down again to hopefully prevent a repeat occurrence. Filled the box mag with an entire can of green gas and that lasted me easily 8 mags filled to 175 plus a couple of half mags (I was refilling all mags to full between games so didnt keep an exact count) I also have a smoke generator suppressor fitted to the end of the barrel that I have also fitted an acetech brighter R tracer unit into, and the combination drew a lot of admiring looks from both teams and even the marshals (I will upload some pics once I have sorted dinner and unloaded the car) Also had the adjustable nozzle arrive yesterday, so that will also be fitted at next strip down

It's toned the thing down and looks pretty good now I think. I'll post some pics shortly. Of course I still managed to bugger up one bit of it which will grate on me for ever more 🥴

  30. That's a shame, because there are some really lovely non-m4 replicas out there (I'm a big fan of Cyma m14s...). Hard for me to say, as I tend to tinker with all my stuff, but if I wanted something that I knew would perform really well out of the box without any tweaking... I'd try and go for a TM NGRS. However, you'll get better performance for less if you're willing to do very basic upgrades, like swapping out a hop rubber and nub, which is incredibly easy to do on basically anything. I've heard good things about Double Eagle for m4 style rifles and they're a lot less than £400.

  33. The core of the the system is… …the Fighting Load Carrier. Sometimes called “flicks” for short, by people who struggle with saying “FLC”. There is a second generation FLC that includes a front zip to close it as well as the chest and waist buckles. This allows for more form fitting wear. Both styles have a removable padded waist belt that adjusts. Mesh from panels with pals mountings. Adjustable rear H-harness and a simple slot pocket on inside each side of the vest. FLC was produced in Woodland, 3 colour desert, Coyote (USMC), UCP and OCP patterns.

    Gun upgrades

Ditto to that. Unless you: 1) Really know what you want and why or 2) Can really, really trust the tech Then having an airsoft gun "upgraded" can just be an exercise in spending more to get the same, or even less. Most low to mid range guns these days are perfectly decent and usable. Clean the barrel, feed it 0.28g or so, and get the hop dialled in, and you'll be 90% competitive with anyone else out there once you factor in the whims of weather and that we're slinging tiny bits of plastic. Have you played at all yet? Do you have a specific gun in mind that takes your fancy?

  41. I've thought about this as I couldn't put my finger on exactly why it was bothering me, but I wouldn't say I'm offended by patches of any sort. I'd say I find it fucking embarrassing. Like, imagine someone from a tabloid or something seeing us playing with a couple of people wearing those, and we would all be tarred with the same brush. Realistically, it should be called out and sites should stamp it out. It's not that far fetched an idea, they've run stories at events moaning people were dressed as terrorists. That's people in jeans, a shirt and a shemagh with an ak. If public perception is that we are a bunch of far right wing A holes who have gun fetishes this hobby is on borrowed time. Especially with an inevitably incoming (and not soon enough) labour government. A proper impression is different and that's just nuance perhaps.

  42. LOL, I know what you mean, I had to scroll to the top to check what we're actually discussing, but I'll be grumpily honest & admit I'm so feckin tired of spoon feeding noobs answers to the same questions that have been asked a thousand times before, made worse by wannabe trolls that say shite like "if the plod come round, make an official complaint about wasting time" etc. There's a core of members here, you & I included, that literally have hundreds of years of combined experience within Airsoft, add to that our own personal life experiences & skill sets in numerous professional fields, & I'll bet that not one of us has fallen foul of the law due to how we use/behave/own our Airsoft rifs. Why. Because we've been sensible, applied common sense & been aware of the massive responsibilities of "gun" ownership. Yet we're still having to spell it out to new members ffs.
    1 point
  43. I'm not even sure why we're still entertaining this thread, yes there are laws pertaining to rif use that any of us could easily fall foul of, but every thread that's EVER discussed anything along these lines have all come to the same conclusions : IF YOU WAVE A RIF AROUND ANYWHERE THAT MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC CAN SEE YOU, YOU WILL GET A VISIT FROM THE POLICE. Now irrespective of anyone here's knowledge of the laws, taking the moral high ground because "According to laws XYZ its OK to do this, so it's my right" is bollocks, the plod are obligated to investigate every call they receive regarding potential firearms, even when your in your own back garden or on private land, & there isn't a court in the land that will support you versus the police when in comes to them doing their duties in this matter, whether its them telling you to "don't be a cnut, use some common sense", or the other end of the sliding scale, them shooting you dead. Even if the attending officers are very knowledgeable about Airsoft & are polite when discussing it with you, respond with a smart mouth & you'll find yourself nicked for "causing distress" or public order offences, & your kit grabbed for "assessment", & don't expect to get it back anytime soon. Back on track, if you want to fiddle with your guns in your back garden, let any overlooking neighbours know that their harmless but realistic toys & explain your hobby, maybe even print something out explaining it in more detail, get them on board & understanding. If if you do fire your toys in your garden, set up an appropriate range with a decent backstop to keep any stray bb's within your property boundaries. USE SOME COMMON SENSE ? 😏

  44. They're human like the rest of us and 99% of people who have a negative experience with poluce is down to them failing the attitude test. It'll be standard procedure to send armed officers to any call where firearms are involved. Better to over react to something which turns out to be nothing than under react and end up with dead coppers You never know, a chat with the neighbours might even get you a new battle buddy
