  2. might be they're b rated and the site has it wrong stating f. they also seem to have ANSI Z87+, which some rough calculation appears to be ~3j equivalent for its high velocity test (1/4" steel ball at 170mph). regular Z87 by the same math works out 1.06j. if this thread shows anything it's the absolute cluster that is trying to figure out if something's been tested to a high enough energy for our uses

  3. got a source for that? some googling i've not found anywhere referencing an image of these things conforming to en166 or what impact rating they'd have within that standard. EN166 has 3 different standards for impact rating. the low velocity impact (F) is ~0.86j which means they can crack at airsoft velocities the medium energy impact (B) is ~6j, so well above any reasonable airsoft standard and the high (A) further still (iirc ~15j) ofc passing a standard is only a minimum, so it's possible for something marked en166f can still be strong enough for airsoft given it's a fair bit to go before it'd be strong enough for the b rating. ofc if you want to gamble your one and only pair of eyes finding out then that's your personal choice, although personally i'd not enjoy having the associated PR if that goes south. op- at a bare minimum before you field those i'd be asking someone with a bolt action (at appropriate bolt action energies, ie not a 1.1j no-MED gun) at the local site to put a round straight into them point blank, might sound overkill but we live in a world where kickingmustang exists.

  5. Been testing this for the past 4 weeks and so far hasn't broken. It's a fully mechanical ETU with 4 micro-arms. I've always been a little sceptical of these type of FET's due to the unreliability of the switches but this one is proving pretty decent so far. I'm organising a small test of these with 10 or 20 regular players later this week, hopefully will see if they last the distance and how serviceable these are. Price should be around £35 Will update the thread with the findings.

  6. 30 rounders for me, sounds silly but I enjoy having to reload and “work the gun” as if where. Agree with the above though, it’s not entirely practical when your getting hosed down by rentals and HPA speedy boys.

  7. £500 for an M4, No other information but looks like a COD gun. Does come with mags and a replica acog though. If this is anything to go by, the G&P M4 I am looking at selling should be worth atleast £2,000!

  8. Cyma are brilliant, depending on what you want. I can recommend two from personal experience: Cyma platinum SR-25 as your more expensive option. Comes in around £330, but does everything amazingly out of the box and the internals are really, really nice. I took mine apart and was thoroughly impressed with what is put into it! The MOSFET isn't amazing and is just there to protect the trigger and apparently also protect the gearbox from locking up on semi which is nice, however it's not programmable at all, so making it semi auto means you'd need to modify the selector plate or something. Cyma M14 as your cheaper option. Comes in around £150 and will shoot pretty damn well out of the box. V7s are pretty easy to work on once you get to the gearbox, but they're more time consuming as getting the m14 apart takes a bit of effort. All I've done to mine so far is swapped out the hop, nub and barrel (so about £40 extra? ZCI barrels are great) and it's firing at 1J and hitting out to decent range. Probably won't DMR mine, but I do plan on doing some more work to it once my SR-25 is sorted and I can take the lessons I've learned there to my m14. If you did want to DMR one, you'd probably need to swap out the piston for a metal-toothed one at least, but the other internals I imagine would hold up. I accidentally modified mine (I snapped it when I was working on it by accident 😂) and found out it's suuuuuuuuuper reversible, but not so reversible that you wouldn't be allowed to use it as a DMR. When you separate the receiver from the stock there's an arm that goes around the top and moves in and out depending on semi or full auto. All you do is remove a screw from this arm and detach one side from the other and you're immediately fixed to semi auto. From a purely practical perspective, I will second this (though I prefer pistols because a GBB is fun to shoot and I just like pistols a lot). I also have an mp5k and I can say they're fantastic little guns, though I run mine on a sling. Again, Cyma, £150. All I've changed is the hop rubber and nub again and it's sending .32s to 60m. As @Rogerborg said, it's full auto, full size gearbox and it's just all around great. I run 65rd stubby midcaps in mine, but the 600 round double high cap also works. If you want the best performing secondary alongside a rifle with an MED, this is your best bet, and will probably be a cheaper option because the mags are dirt cheap, unlike gas pistol mags that are fairly pricey. For a more expensive option, I love the TM mp7. Same thinking, but it's an AEP (or gas, but I don't like the gas one) so it only shoots about 0.6J, however I've got mine spraying full auto to 45m fairly accurately which is all you really need alongside a DMR and it's slightly easier to carry than the mp5k because the mag goes into the pistol grip. In terms of pistol, this is a great option and it's cheap! £90 or so and it has an absolute boatload of aftermarket parts, including drum mags and carbine kits. I've converted mine to a Ruger .22 to use at Vietnam games because it's so good and reliable I wanted it to replace my 1911 and its tiny magazines! So much more reliable, which I need as a sniper; a good sidearm is just as important as a good main rifle in my opinion! Outside of that, just get whatever TM pistol you like. They're pretty much all good (though I've heard the old m9s are a bit crap), though you need to watch the 1911s because the mags are so small they don't hold much gas. They still shoot well, but outside of summer they can struggle to cycle through a mag on one fill of gas. I've owned about half a dozen TM pistols and not one has disappointed outside of the 1911 for the reason I said above. Overall, I wouldn't get hung up on full-auto for a pistol if it's gas. Whenever you fire, there's a cooldown effect each time and gas doesn't like being cold (it just doesn't work as well when cold). When you fire a gas gun on full auto, it loses all consistency and sprays BBs and gas all over the place because that cooldown stacks after every shot. You also don't need full auto though; I've been running BASRs lately at my local site, even though there's a lot of close range areas where it's useless with its 30m MED and I haven't once gone away from a firefight thinking "if only I had full auto...". Snappy GBB pistol has been all I've really needed, and my various TM pistols + AAP-01 deliver that in spades.

  12. Surprised no one's mentioned an AAP-01 as a sidearm, it matches the OP's criteria... # Good internals/externals: Over all yes, however regular full auto will shorted the hammers lifespan. # overall good pew: Yes # good fire rate: Yes # not too expensive: The price is great for such a good pistol ... and I run mine as a sidearm with a CTM holster and can't fault it at all (using 0.28g with an ML Autobot 60 degree).

  13. The low price of these doesn't bother me at all. There's a few Yuan of material in any set of eyepro. Polycarbonate is cheap, and a dual pane of acetate or PETG and some double sided foam won't add much. I've measured my many (many) sets of eyepro at under 2mm of polycarbonate and none of them have given the slightest concern even when point-blanked in CQB. Yes, you should test them, but that applies to any set of airsoft eyepro. Be honest though: how many of us actually do it? Especially with 0.48g of "plastic" at 2.3J? Even the cheapest of polycarb glasses stand up to AEG energies just fine. Mesh... not so much. And here's a 0.43g sniper BB against £1.42 unrated novelty goggles. One exception is the ~£20 full face masks being punted on Amazon under many names, a few of which are honest enough to admit that they won't take UK airsoft energies. This makes me suspect that they've chiselled that last half a Yuan and use acrylic (perspex) instead of polycarbonate, or under 1mm of the latter.

  17. I always used 120 rounders. Recently been using a mp7 with 40 round mags and loved it, so switched my ngrs to the stanag mags and 5 instead of 6 and found it was more enjoyable for some reason. Ultimately with the mp7 I have 200 BBS loaded, with the stanags it's 400 BBS and this vs 720 I was running. A big part of that is like has been mentioned, working the gun, doing reloads, checking mags for whether you're nearly empty. At a recent gunman filmsim I reloaded 3 mp7 mags by hand, no speed loaders, as per the rules which surprisingly added to it all.

  18. Yup agree with you both I’ve been running mids for yrs much more an enjoyable experience having to change mags in-game(but with the caveat of at the end of the day when I’m on my chinstrap I’m often seen on the field with just a gun and a hi-cap !🥵) I usually load mine around the 60 mark so I’m not totally disadvantaged but still have the additional pressure of needing to watch my ammo .👍

  19. I did it, but I was practicing for when I got my MWS and that only has 35rd magazines. For the most part it's an impractical way of playing, but I do prefer it. Then again, I like playing the scout sniper role, so it suits me fine; I don't get into firefights even when using a normal rifle. Ambush, then fade away is my typical method of play, so running around with 30rd magazines isn't that big of a deal for me. However, as has been said by @Druid799, you will just be outgunned in any firefight you enter into if you're using low/real caps. Really it's down to personal preference. Mechanically it sucks, but if you prefer it then you prefer it.

  23. I really don't know that much about NGRS but I guess it's certainly possible. Part of the issue these are made in China by a Chinese company, they don't have access to TM NGRS guns to experiment because they are banned. Getting them into the country is incredibly hard for them. They can't even get run of the mill products sent from Taiwan let alone Airsoft bits. These Chinese fets have only come about due to the authorities relaxing the laws around Gel Blasters, however I hear that's about to change. Ideally you'd need to design the product here in the UK, working with a Chinese factory to get them made. Is there a big enough market to warrant the cost? Dunno. Monday I'm sending out a few units so hopefully we'll have some real-world data. I'll post up the results here for anyone not on FB.

  26. Generally I let all my guns wear naturally as they get used and shot (yes it does happen). My John wick hicapa has some pretty heavy wear marks from being carried in a quick release holster on the chest of my plate carrier. I will give all my guns a clean after a game day to remove any mud/plant material as well as prevent rusting, but beyond that and cleaning the barrels, I don't bother about marks, as I'm more worried about replacing parts that are actually broken, such as the safety on my hicapa and missing (dummy) bolt release on my tippmann. That being said, I am planning to restain the wood furniture on my S&T Lee enfield to make it look less orange in photos, and appear more realistic colour.... but I still don't care about scratches/marks from being used

  28. Seconded. I learned this the hard way, I picked up a JG SL8 and just had the tappet plate cut to disable full auto. It lasted half a game before the gearbox locked up If you're really wanting a full auto back up then this is a good idea. Another advantage is that it won't suffer cool down like a gbb.

  29. the price being low as you say isn't the issue, the issue is having some form of assurance that the product has some kind of rating, hence why i asked for the source on them being en166 rated. there's also the question of factor of safety. taking a [insert maximum field limit] hit point blank is one thing, but there's also the issue that they might be asked to deal with higher than that in an unlikely but not impossible scenario of tripping over your local kickingmustang who will swear blind they didn't see you so close they were shooting at someone behind you check the footage bruv. whilst i'm sure such a scenario could and possibly would descend into quite the interesting set of lawsuits centering pretty much around the modern incarnation of an eye for an eye, i'm not sure it'd be much consolation to an involuntary cyclops, or the community as a whole that could do without the bad PR. ultimately it's on each individual to make a decision as to what level of risk they're willing to accept in the pursuit of sport, certainly airsoft is generally by comparison to many other hobbies a relatively safe one, but that's no reason not to at least try and make an informed decision as to the efficacy of the equipment you're using to prevent potential injury.

  30. true, this remains a constant possibility, but by the sounds of it any such problem will be one of those unavoidable part compatibility issues, and at least the zci's aren't massively expensive.

    DMR and a pistol advice

CYMA M14 AEG (its a real world DMR in 7.62) cheapish with decent range out the box. What reviews state TM auto pistols break often. there is only two models Glock 18c and a hi Capa and they have pretty much the best after market support for parts and up grades. any way full auto is not really useful in a back up pistol so best would be TM MK23 NBB. draw back is its huge and NBB. other wise cheapest good option would be a TM 5.1 hi capa or one f the Glock series. personal preference is the TM HK45 and a lot of people swear by the FNX45.
    1 point
  32. Dmr wise there area good few options out there but I'd stick with something that is in a 'dmr' calibre as some site require that it look the part. I used a g&g 308 as I wanted a dmr calibre magazine and the gearbox is a standard v2 when it comes to parts. Perun also make a drop in mosfet which adds useful features. As for the pistol, something that is reliable is a must as you could be using it frequently, not just to clear corners and structures. I'd be looking at TM first as they work solidly out of the box and the plastic slides means they are usually gas efficient. Personally I use an m&p9

  37. Have you thought of a modular plate carrier, so you can change the pouches if you change RIFS. I run a JPC structural plate carrier, which I have different front panels for what I am using. Just one way to get more of your carrier and also future proofs you.

  39. what's the variance? ie the range of fps you get over a few shots? short of actual range testing that's the best indicator for potential accuracy. guess it boils down to your budget, if you want to keep the cost of the barrel aside in case something else needs changed, but if you've got the money then why not take out one more variable?

  42. The pathfinder rig is fine if you only want to run stanag mags but if you fancy a change at some point you might be better off looking at rigs that use an insert system or a plate carrier that uses placards sp pouches can be changed. If you go for plate carrier it's certainly worth paying for a better one over clones and cheapest ad they carry and spread loads better and vent heat better. I have a warrior rpc and love it. I do run weighted plates in it. I do have both plate carrier and chest rigs and they both have their place. Think about how you want it to function and what you want fit wise. Something like the ops minimo could be a good start and if you want a plate carrier then the placard system is interchangeable.
    1 point
  43. If you are considering a chest rig rather than a plate carrier, I can thoroughly recommend this one: https://www.flecktarn.co.uk/odtmb2nx.html Very comfortable and practical. I've been through a few setups of plate carriers and battle belts, and this is IMO the perfect compromise between the two if you like to run relatively lightweight.
    1 point
  44. Unless you are really sold on a plate carrier (for maybe running weighted plates) I would look at a chest rig. All the carrying capacity but not a sweaty Warrior pathfinder is a nice (for M4 mags) I love my SADF M83 as it can take M4 or AK mags and two grenades or radio & grenade/spares. Plus they are only about £55.

  49. First game in 5 weeks and I've missed this. Took the m21 and my 1.1J spring VSR to the site, but they didn't have .32s in stock (or at least they didn't have any of the brands I like and I'm picky with my ammo) so I ended up running my spring VSR. Was a really great day, as there were lower numbers due to people getting scared of a bit of sunshine and warmth and there were very few ghillies for once, which felt great being one of them even though I was only using my Russian cobra hood because I didn't want to cook. Skill level was... pretty poor. I spent a lot of time being the front line with my bolt action rifle as I slowly crawled up along the flanks, because nobody was pushing all day so my stealthy slow-crawl was faster than the rest of my team. During one of the afternoon games, I did a slight naughty because our team was getting stomped horribly on a rolling assault where we were the attackers. We just weren't making any ground and I was the front line with my sniper rifle, so I continued slow crawling until I was fairly near their spawn. They could've easily avoided me by going through the foliage, they could've easily overwhelmed me by charging past (they had no idea where I was, but with a bolt action I can't hit that many of them if they just charge past), but they kept walking slowly down the path towards my kill-zone and I ended up spawn trapping a good portion of the enemy team for about 10 mins. Desperate times called for desperate measures and my team still didn't push, even with a bunch of the enemy team not able to reinforce the base we needed to take. When it was clear my team still wasn't pushing the objectives, a marshall asked me politely to move on and so I did and that's where I called it for the day. Was almost out of ammo in my VSR after keeping them pinned anyway, but if that wouldn't get my team to push, nothing would. That said, I got a lot of great shots, but more importantly I played with an MED in mind, despite not having one as I wanted to see if I could bring my 2.3J VSR along and still be effective. Next game day I will take the plunge and bring the 2.3J HPA VSR instead because there were many shots I could've done if I had it today, but there were no shots taken under 30m. I think I have the site knowledge and the skill to make it work, even though Worthing Airsoft is so overgrown right now, plus I found a bunch of new spots to play around. Used my p226 as my sidearm and every time I do I come away saying to myself I need to use this pistol more. It's by far my best performing GBB pistol, reaching out accurately to 50m and can still fairly reliably hit the 60m target, plus it cycles like a dream. Also, the magazines don't have those damned pins in the bottom, having a screw in the baseplate instead so they're so much easier to maintain and work on. Highlight of the day is definitely dropping a shot onto a player at about 80m with my 1.1J VSR. Fired one and there's no way it went anywhere near the guy, so I angled it slightly, took another shot and then a second or two later the guy put his hand up and looked over in my direction with a confused expression on his face. He didn't see me, but the shot felt amazing. 80m with a 1.1J bolt action is a nice shot whichever way you look at it, especially using grey BBs like I do so I had to adjust based on my estimate of the range and my knowledge of how my rifle works because I couldn't see the BBs themselves Already looking forward to next game day. Will bring my big boy VSR next time and try running it alongside an mp5k on a sling and my p226 to try and get used to it. If not, worst case if I want to run an SMG alongside a BASR/DMR I can always use the mp7 in a leg holster, but I'd like to run a pistol because I love my pistols

  50. Final review. The body of them has EN166BT printed on the rim. Not sure if this means they are b safety rating.. The goggles were left some time and then crinkled on the outer lense. I assumed this was a film that requires removing, but when I attempted to remove it seemed to break down in to a residue. I cleaned them with soap and they still look extremely cloudy. Not sure why this happened. But I would not recommend these upon further usage and will be updating the original post to state as such. IMG_3760.MOV
