Airsoft Battery Advice
concretesnail and 2 others reacted to Rogerborg for a topic
We had a good rant about that recently: it's an awful way of limiting motor / gear speed. If you're getting problems it's better to drop to 7.4V (or 9.9V LiFe) than to use an 11.1V that's trying to spin the motor fast, but can't keep up with the draw. That's only going to end badly for the battery. tl;dr version - higher C is (nearly) always better.3 points -

I have no real customer loyalty (It's a two way street, shops that I have bought from multiple times haven't hesitated to shaft me and pass the buck if something I bought from them was broken out of the box), it's not as if one shop gets better examples of specific products over any others. Anything could be duff regardless of where I buy it from. Price is still king, though getting all the stuff I need from one shop as long as I am not getting too shafted price wise is also a consideration. I do check certain retailers first if I know they are more likely to have the bits over others (AK2M4, Bullseye and Fire Support). It's all about being a savvy shopper to maximise what I get from my funds.2 points -

The krytac has a mosfet already so you should need to worry about contacts and that page doesn't say anything about voltage so I'd suggest try it. I'd always use a battery that can handle what'd be asked of it. I'd rather the mosfet ie than a lipo pushed into failure next to my face. Treat them with respect and lipo can be great batteries, I use a lot of them.2 points -

Werdna and one other reacted to concretesnail for a topic
Generally its fine but that's a loaded question. It would depend on the aeg in question. The lipo will only give what the system demands and in worst case scenario, die trying. Some manufacturers think its okay to use the battery as the limiting factor and recommend batteries with low 'C' ratings so the battery suffer voltage drop and keep running rather than burning out poor quality components.2 points -
Post covid shottie gas project.
Nick G reacted to ginger colin for a topic
Hi. Like many, this project was started a long time ago. If you are a lover of shotguns you know the H&S mad max shottie shells are terrible. After acquiring x10 madbul Co2 shells a friend lathed up an adapter to run through the gun. Post covid I have dusted it all off and only 2 madbul shells have a small leak. I haven't stripped them down yet but I'm sure the reset mechanism is going to end up pinging across the room. I have spotted a few madbul shell copies out there and purchased a Show Girls mini launcher with a shell mainly to test the shell. Side by side the two brands are pretty close only time and pressure will tell if the Show Girls is as reliable as the Madbul. The adapter works well and gives you a total capacity of x12 6mm bb's. My shottie barrels are 8mm and this will be my room clearing shell. The old adapters were one offs and took a lot of time. I'm looking in to 3D printing more shell adapters and will open the hole out to 8mm so you have a combi of x5 6mm in the shell and x5 8mm in the adapter. One problem with the original lathed adapters was getting tooling in to put a seal groove in the end for bb retaining. 3D printed I'm thinking you could easily offset the seal to create a bit of hop. I hope this gets you thinking and dusting off unfinished projects.1 point -
As a relatively new Airsofter and having read a lot of conflicting advice on AEG Batteries I was hoping someone could share their experience. We have several AEGs that are all '11.1 Lipo Ready' and we are looking to get some high capacity batteries. I bought the below battery from Amazon that is an 11.1V Lipo 2200mAh with a 35C rating. It works fitted into an AEG fine, my unsurity is from the 35C rating, will this higher rating cause any issues in AEGs or will they be fine as long as they are 11.1V? https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B09932Y8K3/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_image?ie=UTF8&psc=11 point

I spent some time as a wireman in controls engineering in my early days. Numbering cables and point to point wire wrapping and,as you say, looms and lacing. Lovely work when its finished. Very rewarding.1 point

custom mag options are find a existing real steel mag shell that you can put the GHK internals into (no idea if such a mag exists) this will be the easiest method though if it can be done. Build a shell from sheet metal (not something to be done with out some metal bending tools and welding gear). design a mag from scratch in something like cad convert to CNC program and say good by to a shit tonne of money as there will be multiple iterations before you get it right. other option would be 3d print design to make a mould and cast your mags( much much cheaper than machining, can be done from a home kit but will time consuming and will be a lot of failures before you get it right. So hate to be a nay sayer unless you have access to industrial rapid prototyping equipment (don't we all wish that) accept you have bought a niche gun with little after market support so what you got is what you got.1 point

@Rogerborg defaintely worth a try, problem with those BD motors is they don't give you any torque specs, only names High Speed, High Torque or High Speed/High Torque mix. which doesn't tell you much. The closest match visually is ZCI to those motors where HT was 22TPA, HS 14TPA and HSHT was 16TPA but they could be anything.1 point

i have found myself come back to certain shops due to price and stock so maybe. Also most UK shops either are associated with a site or have their own site/s so i would assume relying on repeat business especially consumables (it appears to be quiet a common business model world wide for airsoft).1 point
-
All supermarkets run a loss on certain products (loss leaders) to tempt people in and spend on the stuff that has a larger profit margins. Most airsoft sites will barely cover costs with green fees and will have minium numbers to break even any profit will rentals and shop sakes they have. Its risky put you can have a business model of selling your primary product at a loss/cost If you can sell high profit products in tandom.1 point

Hi Hamster, The Hi-Capa mags will work fine even if you go cross brand. The only style to avoid with a 5.1 gun are 3.8 mags as the magazine itself is shorter and will not mate with the mag catch of a 4.3/5.1 grip. Capacity on a Hi-Capa mag will depend upon which baseplate the mag is fitted with. The stubbier 4.3 plate sacrifices a few rounds1 point

Suggestions for metal old school AK, for paint project
Paul72 reacted to Adolf Hamster for a topic
As above- cyma are pretty much the baseline of solid all-rounder, e&l are more expensive but have prettier externals which will rust. Either are good choices, depending on your budget and wether you like a heavy gun or a light gun. The jg's arent bad shooters with a bit of tinkering, although the term "blowback" is a bit of a stretch, whilst the system is somewhat fragile it's also relatively easily deactivated and it'll run as a regular aeg. Ran one for years as my backup/loaner gun and it was genuinely a fun little shooter that i'd often run just for the hell of it.1 point -

Mixing active breaking with precocking
Rogerborg reacted to Adolf Hamster for a topic
precocking is like a timer that runs after the col has tripped and keeps the motor running a few milliseconds before (usually) applying active brake. usually lockups with active brake are the product of a system that doesn't need it stopping too quickly when the brake is applied (ie col trips and it stops immediately), without active brake the motor naturally rolls on for a little bit of precocking (ie how guns without mosfets work) until natural friction/energy compressing the spring is enough to halt it. i suppose if the precocking is set too high it might be rolling right around and approaching that lockup point from the other side (although would probably be intermittent double firing too)1 point -
Mixing active breaking with precocking
Rogerborg reacted to RostokMcSpoons for a topic
An interesting question, as they're obviously about holding the piston at opposite ends of the cylinder. So which takes preference? The Perun manual states: "While precocking is on, the AB setting becomes irrelevant. However, any programmed AB setting will be stored in memory and will become effective as soon as precocking is disabled." Link: https://perunairsoft.pl/hybridv2.pdf1 point -

Spot on - imports at trade price will help business, which is partially supposed to be the point of import tariffs. But buy & resell whilst having to up the price will just assist in harming the retailer in the long term as customers will go back to finding cheaper direct alternatives (and either succeeding or being stung) In my friends shop she does sometimes buy in at retail and sell for zero profit - if she can’t get that thing on trade, when big chains are at the front of the queue, or she’s only got a couple of customers who will want it then she’s facilitating her regulars as a ‘specialist’ when mainstream retail have touched on a specific item1 point

advice required - ww1 "trench tommy"
solitaire360 reacted to Tackle for a topic
Would you not be better informed to contact one of the ww1 reenactment groups on fb etc, not doubting any of the info given by members here, just that most airsofters tend to be "Jack of all trades" when it comes to loadouts, often having numerous to choose from. 🤔 A quick search shows 2 very specific groups of interest ? (PS I might suggest you don't initially mention Airsoft, not everyone gets it & if the groups are stitch counters or historians they may not like the idea of the regiment being depicted via big boys shooting each other with toy guns 😏, just a thought ?)1 point -
Overspin / double-firing on semi with 11.1v
Rogerborg reacted to RostokMcSpoons for a topic
@Rogerborg It'll be interesting to compare our experiences of the Perun AB++ versus the Gate Merf. I was so close to buying that Perun, before tracking back to the basic version, and then jumping back up the complexity list to the Merf. I'm wondering if I've now made a mistake, missing out on the pre-cocking option for the sake of a few quid. Time will tell...1 point -
Came off a night shift and ordered what I thought was a m16a1.. ordered a m16vn set instead 😭 but I might have lucked out as the lower is a half fence unit.1 point

One other solution is to up the torque of the motor to 22TPA or 28TPA, can sometimes solve double-shot. AB fet will sort as well, will add a little bit of extra strain on the motor but no pain no gain 🙂1 point

The 'How Did Your Airsoft Day Go? Thread
MAX DICKER reacted to Khyber for a topic
Good morning, just a quick report on my last session on sunday... This was the first time taking my own RIF to a game after receiving my UKARA. As some may be aware I went and dumped a wad on a TM M4 GBBR with 6! Yes 6 extra mags and a whole host of goodies to accompany. Well let me just say... the day went absolutely fantastic!! The gun was faultless all day bringing a huge smile to my face and attracting many comments along the lines of 'ooo is that a gas blowback' and 'wow that thing sounds naughty'. 😂 It was such a big difference from the rental AEGs and am so happy I went the gas route. The session was packed with over 30 players in an indoor arena with a good variety of objective based gameplay. And a didn't even use all my mags in any of the games which is a bonus. Any way that is all. Just wanted to share how much I enjoyed my new purchase and am glad I stayed away from the odd recommendation of not choosing gas as my first.. once you go gas there's no looking back 😁😁1 point -

New Airsoft Clone Sub Reddit! R/AirsoftClones
tinkle60 reacted to GreatWhiteKAC for a topic
R/AirsoftClones on Reddit Hey everyone, I hope it’s okay that I post this here, me and a few friends who love building airsoft clones of military and law enforcement weapons from around the world have started a new sub Reddit for like minded airsoft nerds to hangout, discuss clone building and show off our builds! You might ask, “what is airsoft clone building?” Well, it’s somewhat of a niche hobby that has its routes in the real steel clone building world. Where guys build near identical copies of military and law enforcement guns like the ever popular MK18 and Block II as well as other military and LEO builds like the MK12 Mod 1 and the FBI Hostage Rescue Team rifle. Now, In the real steel clone world, they are pretty strict, most builders are accurate down to the smallest parts like having the correct Bolt Carrier, sling mounts, sights, barrels, etc etc etc. This hobby in the real steel world has taken off over the last few years and as such it has also gained popularity in the Airsoft community. Now, the kind of accuracy the real steel guys aim for is obviously not exactly possible with airsoft. We don’t have access to things like keyhole marked Colt upper receivers or Colt marked 10.3” barrels. Maybe the PTW guys have HAO parts that get close, but, for regular AEG’s or GBBR’s we are limited to getting as close as we can with what’s available. so, when it comes to airsoft clones, all we ask is that you’re at least showing an obvious effort towards cloning your rifle to look like it’s real military/LE counterpart. That means a tan combat machine with a black quad rail is NOT a MK18 Mod 1. You are least would want to have a black receiver set with a Daniel Defense mk18 rail and some of the correct accessories (airsoft replicas are of course the norm as a real eotech or PEQ-15 is going to be prohibitively expensive for most airsoft builders) So, if that sounds like something you’d like to check out or possibly come post and join. We would love to have you! The subreddit is called R/AirsoftClones so just come over to Reddit and search for us! Thanks for reading and to the mods of this forum, thank you for allowing this post! I really hope I’m not stepping on anyones toes here as that’s not my intention!1 point -

Tactical Pith Helmet reacted to Lozart for a topic
Is less impact stress but you can end up with Runners Knee where the thigh muscles develop out of balance and pull your knee cap out of line. I have it, it sucks but it's fairly easy to correct as long as it's not too advanced. I compounded mine by spending years riding a mountain bike with clipless pedals that have very little float so you effectively transfer all that torsion movement into your knee.1 point -
