Double Eagle B&T ACP556 PDW. newest model from DE using the Falcon gearbox. I'll probably do a review soon.

  2. A Ham foundation licence allows up to 10 watts. That won’t be needed to keep contact with a group day out, but will help for James’ ambitions of taking up Amateur radio as a shared family hobby too Breaker breaker, 19, Smokey’s eating doughnuts off the A303 * * of course Ham operators don’t go in for that, they are the ‘serious’ side of radio hobby’s

  3. That will be me then. Doing a bit of testing currently and 5 games in with zero fog. That's a mixture of woodland and CQB sites. Mate used the 2nd set this weekend at UCAP Vendetta and zero fog for the whole game. To set the scene a little I had sweat running into my eyes at some point and still the glasses were fog free. For the design I could probably ditch the variable control as I run them at full speed most of the time. They probably could run at low or medium most of the time but because the fans are almost silent I just leave it on full. The whole thing runs off a small USB charger and lasts the whole day.e it's not really a viable commercial product as it involves a bit of double sided sticky tape and using electrical tape to hold the wires to the legs of the glasses. I've only used it on my glasses and i need to make adjustments for a mates Wiley X frame (actually the legs are wider so I need to make the housing longer to fit over the bump).

  4. GAh yes the good old days of citizens band radio. I was heavily into it and had many rigs over the years base station and mobile and portable. My favourite was a ham International jumbo base station connected to a forty foot high motorised beam aerial. Had contacts across Europe and when the 'skip' was running had qsl with America. I had a bit of help though by way of a 50watt burner lol. Still got all my qsl cards in albums. From my car rig I regularly had contact with a chap in Firenze (italy) as clear as a mobile phone. We became good friends. But yes in later years the hobby degenerated into one big wind up. Wish I hadn't sold my jumbo though. They are getting rare now and are fetching a fair old wedge! Regards

  5. seen it plenty of times, normally someone ditches their primary near the end of the day and runs around pistol only for a bit of a change. even done it myself a couple of times, although even a straight shooting pistol is a challenge when you're not very good at pistol shooting. ofc some folks do run pistol only all the time, mainly indoors but sometimes outdoors. craziest i've seen was a guy who ran pistol only outdoors, but he evidently subscribed to the blackbeard school of reloads- carry half a dozen pistols and just draw a fresh one when your empty.....

  6. CQB Yes as I really enjoy using my pistol (KJW M9 GBB) and dreamed of owning it for about 5 years, so any chance to use it is a yes yes yes. I dont think it provides too much advantage over anyone using a cqb rifle setup, if any but it does feel awfully nice especially when reloading (even though 90% of the time my 'tac' reload involves me fiddling about trying to open the velcro, and put the mag in for what seems an eternity)

  7. That’s interesting to know - but I also have not had any use of a CB since probably the 90s My CB memories are: 1) All my uncles had them in Orkney and would gather in kitchens playing the fiddle & accordion across the airwaves 2) Sat on the driveway in someone’s dad or big brothers car annoying truckers. They never wanted to talk to annoying teenage boys, but they stayed on the channel when we had teenage girls with us. (Which begs the question as to why we were playing with CBs when sat in cars with teenage girls 3) Pre mobile phones we once ended up sat in a truckers cab whilst he tried to raise someone on the CB who could access a phone and call out the AA to a car breakdown

  9. Played a game many moons ago where we only had X number of ’real’ and low cap mags between each team(there was only 18 of us there) you could reload them BUT you had to take and hold one of three ammo dumps around the site to do so then once the mags where reloaded you had to Frank boff out of it . The game started out with the ammo dumps closed and you had to complete tasks to activate them , has to be said was bloody good fun !

  10. As per title, Does anybody run a handgun in place of a long on game day? Bar the obvious limitations, does it still make for an enjoyable experience? Not really talking hi-capa with a tank attached, more like a standard TM and a stack of mags.

  11. I also feel the need to also bring to the fore that running a bolt action rifle often feels like pistol primary, rifle secondary. So many game days where I get like 5 kills with the BASR, but 20+ with the pistol 🤣

  13. While I normally play with a sidearm only when I’ve run my primary dry, I get more and more into “pistol-only” load out. Recently acquired a TM HK45 and a few mags, and man... I had a blast playing an entire afternoon with it in the Woodlands of Ground Zero during NAF2021. I think I got more kills with HK45 than with my trusty SG 553, which has been kitted out internally like there’s no tomorrow. I also have a CZ P-09 and that beast is deadly, even at a moderate distance. I wouldn’t recommend it for a typical flat woodlands, you simply won’t have the distance to reach most people with AEGs, but if you’re going somewhere like Anzio Camp, with a mix of woodland, bushes and buildings, then I’ve seen a few people being more deadly with a single pistol than a whole regiment of typical snipers...

  14. Do you mean woodland or indoor CQB? Especially in woodland you'd likely need to be fit and use a very aggressive/sneaky play style. I wouldn't attempt it if you're more the type who hangs near the back to middle. I have pistols which shoot 50m but obviously they're less accurate, don't penetrate foliage as well and only have 25 round mags.

  15. Slightly dark and tacky from weatherproofing on the top of the pouches but not to the extent it’s black and minging like some I’ve handled!

  16. I would note that CB sets remain available, and are completely licence free now. They operate around the 27Mhz band, notionally at 4W (but are, or were, regularly boosted way over that) and run expensive compared to the 400Mhz+ handsets. I haven't seen handheld units for sale, although there's no reason why one couldn't be produced, the only technical issue being that the antennae need to be longer than for 400Mhz+. I have no idea if anyone is still using them. I haven't used one since 1990 or so, when it went toxic and folk just started playing music or shit-talking all over the CB channels. https://www.ofcom.org.uk/__data/assets/pdf_file/0022/84406/citizens-band.pdf

  18. i must admit it's the one thing i'd have loved to try, assuming limited ammo actually means limited ammo and none of this "an m4 pcc with a box mag is a support gun" shenanigans. taking something like the dragonuv on the field with nominally* 160 rounds and no decent topping off method is great except the bit where everyone else is hosing left right and centre. problem is every event i've seen that tried to impose ammo limits either did it in a really dumb way (eg you could carry 2 hi caps or 5 low caps, evidently nobody did the math on that), or allowed the aforementioned workaround of accepting anyone with an arp and a drum mag as a support gunner, which kind of defeats the point of giving people who have to lug support guns with actual heft to them around the capacity advantage. plus ofc letting people carry a bag to spawn to reload with also defeats the purpose of encouraging ammo conservation. *mags holding 20 rounds on paper, more like 15

  19. I really enjoyed a filmsim with limited ammo, although as with everything in airsoft, you got the impression that some players treated it as more of a guideline than a rule.

  20. 32 Battalion chest rig, used in Angola. Nylon DPM and thic boi shoulder pads. Much more comfy than the standard pat83. Most examples are black and sticky from the weatherproofing, got lucky with this one.

  22. Not sure on the Ham licences but the business ones only licence you up to 5W. Plus, I'm not sure where you go mountain biking but unless your mates are in another country I can't see you needing 8W!

  23. I've had this in mind early on, but I am not convinced this is beneficial to the players for a couple of reasons: not every site has a website, Facebook page, etc if they do, most of them don’t give players any info or even a description of what to expect if they do, it’s often hard to find between the fluff and broken layouts if it’s not hard to find, it’s often out of date If you find a site on the map, chances are you will find more info on its location page on PlayAirsoft than on its OG homepage. If you want to book, enquire or visit their website, the call to actions are clearly displayed (where available). This is supposed to save people anywhere between one to several clicks and in some cases a lot of time. You’re free to feast your eyeballs on outdated info and gruesome website design any time, my friend. I realise location pages are missing crucial info such as pictures, but that’s in the pipeline too. Unfortunately, I will have to create a new backend for this purpose, because with its current setup I’d have to pay quite high hosting costs for image storage and bandwidth.

  26. Thank you both, you've been incredibly helpful. Personally I'm quite interested in the ham stuff as I know my grandad is also. I've signed up for the 3 week Essex ham course so I can learn what's required to pass the amateur exam and get the 27 pound license, so that shouldn't be an issue. I think I might go for the 8w version as mountain biking we do get quite split up if it's a longer trail with everyone going at their own pace. Just got to convince my friends to get it now and do the course so they have the knowledge too 😁 Thanks both for the help

  28. Donation widget is now up and running on PlayAirsoft. Thanks in advance for all your support, and please: don’t feel obligated to donate. I will be looking into better ways of supporting the site than donations. Something that works both ways, as opposed to just “gimme me money”. Changelog: Improved homepage which is now faster and clearer Added newsletter sign-up throughout the site (for later) Created a dedicated map page with proper map controls Blog has now an RSS feed, for those who still remember what it is and how to use it Individual location and region pages load much faster now and look way better, especially on mobile Added a few new site attributes: Site limits (AEG, DMR, Sniper; in Joules) Pyros (allowed/limited) Bio BBs (required/optional) What’s next? Dedicated search page with advanced filtering based on already existing attributes Display the latest three site additions on the homepage to facilitate discovery

  30. to be honest I'm not going to chase UPS, as I have a account with them for work. If they get around to sending an invoice then I'll pay but I don't think that will happen as the time spent by UPS sorting it all out will outway the actual amount. I spoke to Pawel from TWG quite a bit during thr lost/delayed parcel saga and he is quite happy as he got a full refund. Just to recap on the whole thing: Taiwangun were really good Parcel force were good but slow (staff shortages are pretty well documented in Parcel Force in the media currently) UPS were terrible. UPS support wasn't very helpful and continued to promise updates that they never delivered. Am I going to chase UPS just to give them money when I used up all my patience chasing them to sort out my delivery. well no is the simple answer.

    Form or Function

Going by your threads subject, "Form or Function", for me it's the exact phrase "Form Follows Function". I really don't care how I look in the eye's of others as long as I'm enjoying myself, feel comfortable, and at least get a few kills so that's my "function" and I'll take whatever "form" provides that. The financial problem is that there's a minimum you need to spend to achieve this. I'm not a trained soldier, we're not operating in Helmand, so I don't need to spend thousands on mock realism (I'd run around with a big pink dildo with a trigger if it fired accurately to 60m, got me lots of hits and was dirt cheap).
