No sidearm needed. You will have enough trouble learning your aeg. While sidearms look great, most airsofters only use it to fill it at the start of the day and empty the mags posing ubercool and at the end of the day. You need to learn the strengths and weaknesses of your main weapon and yourself. This takes one or two years at least. Then you will be able to effectively use the sidearm in a situation where the main weapon is weaker.3 points

See i have just bought a pistol as ahandy back up. My last game i was in a situation where i was supressing 4 players and my mag ran out in my m4. They where trying to get in thriugh a crawl space so i had a massive advantage till i was out of ammo. The speed of the mag swap cost me and i got hit as they pressed through. With a pistol i could of carried on poping off shots while i one handed mag swaped the m4 (its on a sling im obv not a ninja) so now pistol purchased as a back up! Im happy to spend the money and even if it only saves my bacon now and then its worth it. I play cqb and im sure ill find i use it plenty. Better to have a pistol and not use it than need a pistol and not have it!2 points

I personally love using a pistol, in really CQB and FIBUA situations they are awesome, no rags ratteling about no unwieldy rifle and once you get used to it, if it's s good one accurate too. But if you don't have lots of cash stick the extra you would spend on the side arm on a better rifle.2 points

Basically every beginner and intermediate question has been asked on here before. If not, try Zero In. If you need something specialist like HPA, GBBRs, very in-detail sniping etc. then there are forums devoted to each of those. If you're using an AEG or your average GBB then you can bet your bottom dollar it's been asked here or Zero In though. The problem is the search functionality (although better than vBulletins) is lacking with IPB so it's hard to get the information you need. Hell, I try to look up threads just from a month ago to reference in posts I'm making and can't find any reference to them anywhere, even with very generic word searches. Can be frustrating, and I can see why many people just ask a new question when they can't find the answer themselves.2 points -

As someone who's sat in front of a camera and filmed things like this in one take, it's pretty hard to not make any slips. You often don't notice at the time either because you're in a flow as if you were talking to someone and without them shooting questions at you in person, you just have to sort of imagine them and factor them in as you go. Which can cause contradictions and slip ups as you sort of talk with yourself in your head, whilst talking. It's hard. I don't think this is actually that bad, the mechanism is well presented and explained and the visuals make up for a lot of the slip ups. The whiteboard style is pretty good I think.2 points -
For skirmishes, they aren't useful. But for longer games they are great to keep the map and a pen in it. Easy to access even in gloves. New midcaps need time to reach their full capacity. Don't force it, just use it.2 points

What side arm for a newbie
TheFull9 and one other reacted to Sitting Duck for a topic
neither - stick to ya main aeg you don't HAVE to have a pistol - in fact I got numerous ones and still I hardly bother with one..... if you get into it then yeah maybe, but that means getting a GOOD holster for it - or two you think you may want it at hip/leg/chest - left/right side but a GOOD holster is nigh on as important as the pistol itself times you see pistol's and/or mags flying about on the field when owner is sprinting about (yup lost one of glock mags never to be found again) if push comes to shove GG105 or something maybe but you really don't HAVE to have a sidearm (i'd rather just carry another aeg mag or something but that is just my take on it all) or sod it get a tri-shot shotgun2 points -

Tape instead of paint?
Deek and one other reacted to Sitting Duck for a topic
jeez more ukara/vcra stuff lets be real - main thing is not to be a dick with ya gun so if you paint/tape or wtf you like with it it don't matter really before anybody starts quoting friggin paragraph 6 section 7 bollox.... when you leave the site then the gun "should" be transported in a bag/box etc..... so it ain't on show - so nobody is gonna know or care really unless you you gotta a firearms ban - whoooa wrong thread soz jeez & more jeez, it is really about how you conduct yourself with your toy gun tape/paint or friggin' 2-tone - above all don't wave it about in public whatever colour it is2 points -
You're right. VCRA only covers the selling and manufacturing of RIFs, not ownership. You still need a valid defence to remove the 2-tone, and so that's why tape should be replaced when leaving a site really. However, let's not forget that playing at that site is a valid defence in its own right, regardless of UKARA or site membership. Frankly, it's all a bit of a mess.2 points

SR25K Internal Upgrade Recommendations
Sacarathe and one other reacted to Airsoft_Mr B for a topic
I'd start with cleaning the barrel, I think you should probably polish it too. Silicone is commonly used but I've heard rubbing alcohol is preferable, except I don't know how to go about cleaning a barrel with the latter. Similarly you could also clean the existing hop bucking / rubber, with warm and soapy water (no silicone oil!) I also know snipers wash their BBs the same way, I guess you could do the same for a DM and again, that should help a bit towards accuracy. You could upgrade the barrel (prioritise quality over length & diameter) although buying a replacement hop unit and/or hop bucking will probably improve performance the most and may be cheaper than a new barrel as well. Look for quality manufacturers like Prometheus, G&G (Specifically the Green) and Tokyo Marui for the bucking. In terms of the former, ProWin CNC hop-ups are great.2 points -

TM High Cycle Vs TM Standard
Airsoft_Mr B reacted to Desert for a topic
Hey everyone, I'm doing research towards choosing my first RIF and I can't seem to find comprehensive information about the differences between TMs standard guns and the high cycle versions. Links at the bottom are to the standard G3 SAS and the G3 SAS High Cycle as an example in case you didn't know what i meant. Though I'm more interested in the MP5 than the G3. The High cycles claim to be 25rps but I've struggled to find anywhere stating the rps of the standard version, I saw 13rps somewhere but it was posted many years ago. My other main question is is there any difference in the quality of the internal parts? Obviously the HC will use some different parts to achieve the higher RoF but are they any more durable? Or less durable? The G3s linked below have a £90 price difference and I don't know if this is because high speed parts cost more or if they are higher quality parts. Any comments of the range of these guns would also be appreciated, I understand that TM have a great reputation for their out of the box set ups and in particular their "magic" hop ups but I don't know if this applies to the high cycle SMGs. Thanks for your time http://www.fire-support.co.uk/product/marui-g3-sas-airsoft-gun-aeg http://www.fire-support.co.uk/product/marui-high-cycle-g3-sas-airsoft-gun-aeg1 point -

Most mag pouches that use a lid will have velcro loop on the front of them, with the hook part on the lid. So if you tuck in the lids, you can put patches on the mag pouches. Not my preference personally, they'll get damaged when you're prone/crawling. An admin on the front/hydro on the back with loop and potentially loop on your arms as well as helmet (loadout dependant of course) is more than enough; those places make much more sense.1 point -
Ok so stupid question alert. I see some patches attached to mag pouches but how? Are there Velcro attachments I can look out for or are they specific pouches with the fluffy bits already on? I've got an admin pouch with a little Velcro but I'd like some more really.1 point

They didn't when I went but that was also back when I kept a mag loaded with 0.2g BBs as a chrono mag.1 point

In your own home with your own tools I've never sent a gun off to have work done and now I feel confident enough to have a go at fixing just about anything that could go wrong with my guns with a bit of research I understand that not everyone wants to get involved in the tech like that, but it never hurts to have a good understanding of how the gun works, so you can troubleshoot issues and diagnose problems1 point -
Looking for Russian helmet
Ignitor reacted to Unrustle_Thine_Jimmies for a topic
Unfortunately Cheap and Russian helmet do not go together. Replicas are 200-300,you can get them for 100 if you are luckt and real ones aren't even worth mentioning. Honestly I don't think you'd find a better priced one than the one lafta posted. Other option- Get some fiberglass, and make one on your own and try find the mask separate. Or make a simpler mask as found on some other soviet helmets with just a steel plate and a slit.1 point -

Wow this post is old and brings back memories! I used to work for them for about 2 years. The shop in Wokingham closed down overnight and we all got sacked on the spot! Its an alright company but after working there you get to find out alot stuff behind closed doors. I would go on to explain what happaned but it will take way too long. Something which is alot easier to verbally explain. I live local to Mark who part runs the company. Havnt bumped into him in a long time but I heard bad horror stories about him when he closed down the CQB site. Seen alot threads which mention I was/am a bad tech. I personally think this was far from truth. Most of us in the shop fixed the guns but only 3 of us could do it to a high/good standard. The rest just bodged the fuck out of them but ofcourse because I was the main tech everything which that shop repaired reflected onto me! I1 point -

Good morning all. AKs arent compulsory. The rebels have a kind of special forces guerilla cell called Shadow Troop and the leader of ST rocks a Sterling SMG. We also rent AKs for our games if you only need one for Okto games. If you like AKs generally, its always worth joining our Kill Club community group on Facebook which not only covers our games but also spends a lot of time discussing eastern bloc weapons. Something was posted up just this morning about E&L kit.1 point -

CIV-POP is a military term for civilian population and its often used in milsims to describe people playing civilians in the game. These characters are normally actors who play the role of non-combatants in a game. It can take many forms from Afghan pashtun villagers to VIPs to be protected. For example, in the first Okto Eight game we had President Gretsky of Moldistan and his trusty bodyguard. The rebels had to ambush his opening of the Titanium mine and attempt to assasinate him. They failed. The government forces did an excellent job of escorting him, despite an RPG attack which took out their vehicle. Last game, we had a farmer on a tractor wearing an IED around his neck and begging the teams to help him. Whatever the role, CIV-POP can really keep players on their toes.1 point -
Why what size do you need? Im 5'3" and 11stone i wear medium t-shirts etc and my was ricas plate carrier is comfey as hell and sits sooo nice! My little bro is 5'9" and 17stone he wears an x-large t shirt and we adjusted my was plate carrier for him and it fit fine with plenty of adjustment left to go. Warrior gear is epic quality! And the multicam matches very well to my pcs army surplus gear.1 point

I use one of these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Element-M600c-Scout-Flashlight-Tactical-Torch-Airsoft-Weapon-Light-Black-UK-/131273699398 Mounts to a rail and has a pressure pad and switch options. Seems sturdy enough and it's fairly bright, lighter than a full size torch and apparently the front cover won't smash if shot. It's a clone of the Surefire M600C, which whilst being much better quality is also getting on for £4001 point -
