Eh. Sorry to hear that things are winding down there, but around me, Area-66, Players of War, The Depot 2.0 and Biohazard are all doing fine. Granted, Biohazard seems determined to try to run weeknight games that they keep cancelling at the last minute due to lack of numbers, but Sundays always book out. Everything is pre-book, nobody has gone back to (actual) walk-ons. Cost, yes, that's an issue. While I'm not a Poor, I do baulk at paying £36 for a Depot day. That doesn't seem to put too many other folk off though, it's busy enough, last I heard. Folk do drop out, that's the nature of any hobby. But actual game days don't depend on... influencers... turning up. Us peasants can have a great day without it being InstaFaced or used as the raw footage for some YouToob fictional production.

I think covid would have had a small impact on numbers, but it's likely those bods would have drifted away eventually anyway. I'm more inclined to blame the "cost of living crisis", literally everything has rocketed in price (except maybe Airsoft green fees ?), & for most Airsoft is low down the list of financial commitments, less disposable income will make people reevaluate their priorities. IMHO 🤔

The rate of fire will slow down but the actual muzzle energy is NOT affected by the speed of the gearbox cycling unless it is cycling so fast as to cause pre-engagement. Once the sector gear lets go of the piston rack it's purely down to the main spring to provide the motive force. Yes, surface imperfections on the BB and dirt on the barrel can impact performance but as @Leo Greer mentioned the difference in FPS is minimal unless the BBs are awful or your barrel is basically blocked. If an AEG is firing with progressively lower muzzle energy then it won't be caused by the battery or the speed of the motor. Equally your statement that ALL AEGs do this is patently false and most likely observation bias.

G3 SBS build im 90% there with. Just need a collapsing stock (if anyones parting with one or has one knocking about ) Talk about labour of love! Lots of blood sweat tears and swearing. Just need to refit the mock bolt. Ground up rebuild inside and out. Only thing that’s left of the original TM MC-51 is the fire selector and stock. Internally complete ULTIMATE 8mm gear box, 16:1 cnc gears, 35000 boost motor, GATE Titan 2, ultimate compression set, guarder rubber & nub on a madbull python. G&G navy lower & Magnesium upper. Very bodged JG front end that only needed 15 minutes of dremelling 😂

Totally depends on the chemistry. The main difference between "traditional" Li-Ion cells and Li-poly cells is that the dielectric in Li-Ion is liquid where the dielectric in LiPo is a dry or gel type polymer (which is more stable and less prone to thermal runaway). They can both have varying chemistry depending on application. It's all down to the chemistry and physics of battery charge. If your battery for example is 1000mAh capacity and you charge from flat at a rate of 1C (ie 1x battery capacity in Amps - in this case 1 Amp) then it will take about an hour. If you charge the same battery at 3C (3 Amps) then yes, it will take around 20 minutes. The point we have tried to help you understand is that not ALL LiPos charge "in 20 minutes" because it depends on a) their max capacity, b) how flat it is and c) what rate you charge them at.

Took a nice leisurely drive down to Bournemouth today to play at camouflage Airsoft.1st visit. Nice big,shady carpark. Short(ish)walk to registration and met by a cheery chap called John who signed us in and gave us a warm welcome. Thanks John👍 Local players were friendly and made us feel welcome and in the field, hit taking was excellent with compliments on good shots🙂 First impressions of the safe zone was'wow". It was well laid out,clean and organized. Built in toilet block, on site shop and an abundance of free tea and coffee 😁 Chrono station was nicely set up and doubled as a shooting range.(nice touch). Game play was simple but different with games played back to back.The terrain,I found, was very arduous and unforgiving with steep,loose climbs great for the gazelles and mountain goats among us but not much fun for arthritic tortoises like me lol. Plenty of well laid out cover and the building were amazing. Racked up my best kill rate including two bollock shots to the site photographer. His fault for pointing a camera at me and not wearing a hi Vis vest! ( I have promised to by a pic as way of apology) Marshals were friendly, approachable and put themselves about. Overall a great day but exhausting. Will definitely be going again. Thanks camouflage Airsoft 👍and thanks @C-Diddyfor the heads up👍 regards

Very true, myself & @Duff Beer were part of a pretty big team, I think 21ish members at one point, great guys & generally all very keen, & then out of the blue a couple lost interest, quickly followed by more who felt they had grown up commitments, next thing it's all come tumbling down, now we're just whispered legends in the halls of valhalla lol. There is the turnover factor - there’s a natural cycle of churn. People give up or take a life break ….. and there may or may not be new generations to take over, who may also be going for a different flavour As mentioned above there’s the difference between YouTube playing, regular fun playing and the occasional ad hoc once in a while Post Covid there are different life decisions being made, cost of living affects people etc But also there are those less effected by the cost of living. If you’re a teen with a part time job, small or no rent and no bills other than how you choose to spend the disposable money is still your choice If you’re more affluent then your crisis might be whether or not to cut back on a couple of Proseccos If you don’t have money then you can’t spend it If you have money and need to spend it wisely, you might cut back on a few things, buy cheaper alternatives but have the need for some relief - which might mean a monthly game of shooting people instead of a weekly game, or one or two of your favourite games a year Personally I didn’t do badly under covid, I still worked, didn’t have commuting expenses and now I have partial commuting expenses I shopped, bought shiney things from businesses to support them and still have not got back into a game. I have down my alerts for particular games that are an absolute must (Which are likely to be still not happening this year) plus an emergency contingency game penciled in to secure my need to shoot people Its not necessarily the money, but it’s the experience - there are games that won’t scratch the itch and when I take the time away from the rest of my life activities I want to enjoy it to the best

A little bit off topic but... Watch the 1980's TV series 'Tour of Duty', I recently bought the box set & binge watched it while on holiday. The series kinda struggles with new ideas for each episode but it's deffo worth watching.

I haven't personally noticed it, but then I've been a bit of an airsoft nomad for the past year thanks to work changing my shift pattern. As others have posted I think the rising cost of living will have had an impact, especially for the older players with things like rent/mortgages going up. Another factor could be that as airsoft only really became very well known about in the past few years some of those who started then would've moved on to whatever the next big new thing is. I was going to ask if any qere cqb sites. Unfortunately cqb sites tend to not be around as long as urban areas get redeveloped and land owners want to make their money My problem is that I've got to rely on public transport. While I've got quite a few sites within easy driving distance only 1 is on a direct train line. The rest involve a journey of at least 2 hours plus often a walk too. All of this is a big chunk of my cost of a game day

That's another good point I'd overlooked, the sites themselves, we've lost some of the well established greats, the likes of UA, the mall, combat south & probably many more, new sites are rare & often short lived thanks to the stupid amount of new housing being built. How far your prepared to travel for a decent game then becomes an issue, personally I always end up spending more on fuel to get to & from sites than the actual green fees themselves. But then that's probably my fault for living closer to France than my nearest Airsoft site.

Always try to get my head around we airsofters balk at green fees yet spend thousands on gun/gear I can't think of many all day activities that cost less than airsoft green fees (£36 would last you maybe two rounds for four people in the pub these days.

Season 1 of Shooter is particularly egregious, given that it's specifically about the snipiest of snipers. Put the crosshairs right on the target and you hit. At any range, on any target, from any elevation, without holdover, or leading. I nearly snorted up a lung when Snipy McSniperson described .223 Remington as "a squirrel round". The thing that strikes me is that Hollywood is full of people who make content about guns, but loathe guns so much that they refuse to find out the first thing about them. And that's how you Arec Bardwin someone.

Absolutely the circumstances were atrocious -- but in a time where replicas can be identical to "real steel" variants without the lethality, and convincing effects for muzzle flash / projectile travel can be created without the risk to anyone else, why wouldn't you agree with it? Sure, catching some airsoft replicas might make you feel like there's a little less realism for a moment, but there are plenty "dummy" guns that did the job long before airsoft came along... Replicas and props aren'y anything new by a long shot, so what exactly are you against / in disagreement / uncertainty about? 🤨

The "problem" with molle rigs is that money adds up quickly when considering pouches. With that being said, I had a TT mini mav for a while and I really liked it, I ran it on either a simple triple M4 pouch or a double + a 4x3 GP. The only "downside", if we can call it that way, is that it's not swift clip compatible so you can't strap it to a plate carrier, if that's your jam. Failing that, the Helikon TMR, it's €100 but it's very well made, even though it has fixed pouches it takes M4 and Ak mags just fine. A subgun insert can be jerry rigged (thanks to @SgtTalbert's idea), but tough cookies if you run AR-10/7.62x51 style guns). If scalability (and future proofness) is a requirement, then you can't go wrong with the Ammo Hub from @TheFull9, it's not the cheapest solution but it's very well made and it'll take any insert/pouch you want. Doesn't come with a harness so you'll have to pick your own too.

I've drunk a gallon during a game day and I'm a lot less mass to hydrate. Another player gave me some hydration tablets, they really work or at least feel like they do.

Some fields have a no-running rule, it's not universal. Additionally, while there is a lower power limit, there's also no MED. There tends to be no sprinting in CQB sites, but they tend to be tighter and smaller, so there's less "need," and more chance to get hurt -- plus Japanese airsofters tend to be focussed more on tactics, rather than rushing around. At the end of the day it generally has more manners -- cheating is rarer, there's not the fighting you see (especially in the US), there's just more honour and respect all-round, IME. More clear-cut and tactics-oriented than rule-bending and sprint-and-spray 😊

This. A lower voltage battery (whether it's a 7.4v compared to an 11.1v, or a dying battery compared to a fresh one) will cycle the GB slower but not affect the fps. The muzzle energy is down to the potential energy in the compressed spring

Unfortunately it's rare to find the people behind the production that actually care (or know) about the finer points that trigger some viewers. Then of those that do care (or know), how many of those are then hamstrung by the money people too tight to pay for more realism & detail. & then finally you get that small percentage who want to make a blockbuster, with a speculate to accumulate attitude, think the likes of oliver stone & platoon, actors at a harsh boot camp etc, living the dream lol. Unfortunately those productions are rare as rocking horse shit, watch the opening credits of most films these days & there's about a gazillion "production" companies (aka backers) who will tentatively throw a few quid in the hat while shitting themselves their gonna get bankrupted by a covid outbreak or lead actor od'ing before production finishes, in the old days it would be one firm commited to the end product.

SO MUCH THIS. It's the regular folks that are the meat and veg of venues going, and keeping places running strong. I saw an (USian) airsoft YouTuber recently complaining about folk who'd turn up with fancy guns, and then beg to borrow play fees... like, my dude, if you can't afford to pay for yourself, why should I believe you'd be able to pay me back? Green fees are a weird one. I think some people don't like the idea of x chunk of change going on y amount of time running around, but venues still have bills, insurance, etc. to pay, so it's important - and £5 or £10 a game generally isn't going to cut it. If they could see their fee per hours of skirmishing, or per smile (cheesy, I know) they'd probably feel better about it -- but the Gucci gear folks would rather put the money towards a shiny toy, than the opportunity to have fun and actually use it 🤷‍♀️

The power spring in an airsoft gun is a mechanism for storing energy. When the spring is released, that energy is expended in overcoming whatever is preventing the spring returning to its pre-compressed length, which can be friction in the guide rails or between the piston head O ring and the cylinder, or air resistance. Provided that the spring is always compressed to the same length, the energy stored will always be the same, regardless of how that compression is achieved, assuming that the spring strength remains constant..

Google is your friend. A cursory search of the main dealers say no, but that's not surprising in the least -- it came out a good few years ago now, and there were only 300 made worldwide. Your best bet would be placing a Want ad on the forum, and keep checking the various airsoft selling sites/forums

Sorry to have missed you there today (we went to Combat Airsoft in Thetford). Will be there next week though with several guests. Thetford was an excellent day. The pine forest setting was awesome, as was the (relatively) Close Quarter section we used for the starting games. I went for a wide flanking manoeuvre with a group of lads to try and get behind the blue team and push for domination. This meant a trek through the chest high Ferns resulting in me vanishing down a deep pothole much to the amusement of my squad mates following up behind. We got trounced by the red team all day, but it was still enjoyable. My L85 definitely needs some tech attention as the 1100 mAh battery was used up withess than ten magazines, and the noise it makes sounds like it is labouring on something. Once again the Specna performed better than any of the other pews we brought, although the DE held it's own for the Extraction game. Lots of Gillie suits there with very accurate face shots made a few pushes frustrating Had a fun chat with some US servicemen on the next table too.

Always did wonder why people cared about charging rates, sure other hobbies like rc you have a good reason to care about charging fast but in airsoft just buy enough batteries to last a days pewing and be organised enough to charge the night before. Plus i'd wager the lions share of sites wont have plugs for general use and even those that do will have stiff competition. Op- in addition to a good charger, a tool that i've found invaluable for lipo usage is a cell checker, can be used to troubleshoot if you've got a balance issue, a dead cell, or simply a quick test to see if its charged.

*not a fact. Depends on capacity, level of remaining charge and charging rate. While LiPos can be "fast charged", it is NOT the recommended method. Charging rate should ideally match the mAh value of the battery - 1400mAh charge at 1.4A, 3000mAh charge at 3A. Fast charging is likely to shorten the life of the battery.

Strike Industries TM MWS completed(?) Might experiment with a small red dot or something, but I can't see it changing much more than that. Started in March last year! Time flies. Love how it turned out. To match, also built a Strike Industries TM G17 (decided to not go with the EMG/G&P prebuilt one in the end). Waiting on a nicer red dot to arrive, but God knows when that will be. Make quite a nice pair!
